Layonara Server / Spell Changes In Next Update
« on: November 21, 2005, 08:16:00 pm »
Yes it's that scary time! Though this one seemed to be the Druid update.  There's still some more we have to do! Always!

The following spells have been altered in some form.

  • Weird now has a medium casting range, was short.
  • Mass Heal removed from Druid Spell List
  • Cat's Grace, Owl's Wisdom, Fox's Cunning and Eagle's Splendor added to Druid Spell List
  • Nature's Balance competely redone, Nature's Flow added.
  • Implosion now only affects one target.
  • Gate now requires spell components
  • Rangers receive Ranger Valor instead of Aid which does same thing with no requirement for Holy Symbol
Nature's Balance
Caster Level(s): Druid 9
Innate Level: 9
School: Transmutation
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: Large
Duration: Instant
Additional Counter Spells:
Save: Fortitude Negates
Spell Resistance: No

Focusing your link with nature, you are able to channel essential life forces to balance yourself and those around you. Performing this great sacrifice will tax your body tremendously, effectively setting your current hit point value to 50% of your maximum. This act of attunement then grants you the ability to tip the scales to those who surround you. The primal equilibrium reached within will then allow you redistribute life energies to both friend and foe in a similar balance. The spell will set all your allies to 75% of their maximum hit point value and up to four monsters surrounding you to 25% of their maximum hit point value if they fail the fortitude save.

Nature's Flow
Caster Level(s): Druid 8
Innate Level: 8
School: Conjuration
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Personal
Area of Effect / Target: Gargantuan
Duration: Concentration, 1 Round / Level
Spell Resistance: No
Spell Component: Holy Symbol must be worn
Area Limitation: Natural

The druid focuses all his natural will to project an expansive aura around himself. This aura flows from Nature through the druid and out to her or his allies. After the aura blankets the area, and for 1 round per level while the druid maintains her or his meditative focus, all allies regenerate 12 hit points per round. If the druid's concentration is broken, either by his own volition, such as attacking or casting, or by taking damage, the regenerative flow of nature is broken as well. To assist with keeping focus, the caster is also surrounded in a protective layer of stone when the spell is first cast.

Aid
Caster Level(s): Cleric 2, Paladin 2
Innate Level: 2
School: Enchantment
Descriptor(s): Mind-Affecting
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic, Material
Range: Touch
Area of Effect / Target: Single
Duration: 1 Turn / Level
Additional Counter Spells: Doom
Save: Harmless
Spell Resistance: No
Material Component: A Holy Symbol which must be worn
Deity Relations
Enemy: No Effect
Unfriendly: No Effect
Neutral: +1 bonus to attack, +1 bonus to fear saves, 1d8 bonus to max hp
Friendly: +2 bonus to attack, +2 bonus to fear saves, 1d8 bonus to max hp
Allied: +2 bonus to attack, +2 bonus to fear saves, 1d8 bonus to max hp
Same: +2 bonus to attack, +2 bonus to fear saves, 1d8*2 bonus to max hp

Gate
Caster Level(s): Cleric 9, Wizard / Sorcerer 9
Innate Level: 9
School: Conjuration
Descriptor(s):
Component(s): Verbal, Somatic
Range: Medium
Area of Effect / Target: Point
Duration: 1 Round / Level
Additional Counter Spells:
Save: None
Spell Resistance: None
Spell Component: Alignment Based Vial of Blood

This powerful summoning spell opens a portal to another plane, bringing forth a powerful being from a realm aligned to the caster. This being is bound to the caster's will for the duration of the spell, acting as a faithful servant of indomitable will. However, the sheer strength required to perform this summoning forces the caster to protect him or herself against the creature being conjured.

The caster must be protected by the effects of Protection from Alignment, Magic Circle versus Alignment, or Aura versus Alignment or fail upon the summoning and perhaps even confront the creature brought forth.

Furthermore, sanctified blood must be used to properly perform this conjuration. Good aligned characters requiring the Blood of a willing Saint, evil characters using the Blood from a Virgin, and neutrally aligned characters using their own Blood extracted with a special Ceremonial Dagger.

Layonara Server / Emote Wand "Follow" Ability Removed in Next Update
« on: November 19, 2005, 11:06:00 am »
The ability to follow a PC will not be available on the Emote Wand upon the next update.  There were many reports and GM sightings of abuse of this function.

No more follow the monk.

And yes I know it was handy for being saved from a ledge etc :(

Layonara Server / Voice Command Tips
« on: November 19, 2005, 01:03:00 am »
I'm currently thinking of a way to give everyone the ability to create a Voice, as I know some Human and Half Elf classes don't get any Ears.  However, as long as there is an NPC, summon, or familiar around, no Voice is needed.

The Turn Undead still always effects the undead closest to you, even if it has been turned already. If this can be fixed, it would be nice.

As of tomorrow afternoon I'll be gone from Layo and the Internet.  I don't know when I'll be back.  It could be a very long time.  I have some things to take care of.

Plenarius is still well alive and involved and watching, he hasn't disappeared.  Feel free to RP you saw him in the skies or something :D
Everybody take care and maybe we'll see you down the road.  I'll try to stop by on occasion.

Adios,

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Crafting Dice Roll Statistics
« on: July 11, 2005, 06:26:00 pm »
We've began to track each roll a player makes when they craft. Just to see if there is indeed any issues of lack of randomness. I've created a quick web page showing the distribution of these rolls for every crafting attempt.      This is a live script.  Draw your own conclusions.      http://orth.ca/cgi-bin/cnr_rolls.pl

In the next update, Druids and Rangers will have an alternative to chopping at trees, here's how it works:

Start a campfire near a placeable tree (you must be within 10 metres), when you click the campfire you will see the option to Forage For Wood.  A calculation is made based on your Search and Spot skills vs. a DC 30. (d20 + Search Skill + d20 + Spot Skill vs. DC 30).  If you succeed you will find 2d4 branches of the wood that grows nearby.

You can only do this once every 90 real life minutes.  You will also not be able to do this while Invisible or under any forms of Sanctuary.

Just for Fun / Nostalgia
« on: June 27, 2005, 02:06:00 pm »
Circa 1989 Nintendo

In olden days of yore, the realm of Alefgard was cloaked in darkness. According to legend, a brave warrior, Erdrick, brought light back to the land by defeating an evil being.  He used the Ball of Light bequeathed to him by a friend to drive off the enemies of Alefgard.  He then gave the Ball of Light to King Lorik, who unified Alefgard.  The land was at peace for many generations.  In the time of King Lorik XVI, the Ball of Light were stolen from Tantegel Castle by the evil Dragonlord, and once again the Kingdom of Alefgard was plunged into darkness.  Many travelers fell prey to the merciless fangs of monsters, and the beautiful was transformed into poisonous swamps that hindered travelers.  It was also rumored that several Towns and Villages were destroyed; wiped off the face of the land by Ghosts & Dragons.

16 Years Ago! Holy cow! Ring a bell anyone? *smiles*

Layonara Server / Layonara Project Team Applications
« on: June 26, 2005, 11:22:00 pm »
Our project team needs to grow, and I know there are a few of you wanting to give a hand, but until we've had a proper structure in order I've been hesitant to do this.  So now is the time when we've got some systems in place and I'm happy to open up for positions.    I'm going to be looking for something a little different in this, but it's not necessarily mandatory.  What I would like to see is when you wish to apply, if you know of someone else who would be interested in applying then apply as a team.  Tasks can be completed much easier and responsibilites shared, you can help each other learn in your respective strengths etc.  This will not be mandatory, and I may even choose to do some pairing up if that's okay with you.  I'm going to be looking for people with strong NWN skills already, as I have not the time to teach, this is another benefit to the team philosophy where you can help each other out, and if both of you are stumped then you can ask on the forum or me directly.  However there will be positions where these NWN skills are not so important, and someone who has a creative flair would team up nicely with a builder.  These skills include:
  • scripting
  • 2da editting
  • tlk editting
  • area building
  • content creation
  • art submissions
  • fleshing out history
We're looking for people who take initiative yet are not afraid to go back to the drawing board.  Keeping a good log of the things they do is important too as is dependability and communication.  I hope many of you look forward to being part of the Project Team here and help build the community you enjoy.  Applications will be open until next Sunday night.  Let me know in this thread if you are interested and why and what sort of things you wish to help with.  If there is any reason you wish to keep your application private, then PM it to me.  I'd also like to see an indication of the experience you have that you think would be an asset to the team.  Any samples would be great too, and may even get incorporated into the world.  You can email them to me at plenarius@orth.ca  Thanks for your interest!
