We are needed evermore.

As the protectors of the people of Layonara,

We must stand together.

There is much to discuss. I will be in the Temple of Toran in Fort Llast whenever I am able. May Toran watch over us all.

Development Journals and Discussion / Pandora of the Restless Spirit

A young woman walked through a layer of transient fog, wrapping itself around her, and fading as she passed. The bleak darkness surrounding her was illuminated by a brilliant light below her feet. The woman who walked through the mist was young, beautiful, with a warming glow to her deep, blue eyes. She appeared clean, having crisp and flowing red hair which fell with grace behind her. She embraced a care-free smile, flashing a row of small, straight, yet pointed teeth. Her hands rested casually at her side, swaying with great enthusiasm in each step. A figure crawling, with it's head hanging low, slowly materialized from the fog. It hung quietly beside the woman. The figure's outline was expressed clearly, the fog draping itself around it. Two deep yellow and piercing eyes looked out from the darkness around the figure. They followed the walking woman, watching her joyful stroll. In total silence, and with absolute grace, buildings rose from the fog which blanketed the ground. They were rough in texture, and a myriad of browns, blacks, and grays. Their rise was suddenly halted, and the buildings twisted, and evolved to unnatural shapes and angles. The oppressive structures seemed to loom over her, deeping the darkness around the walking woman. The fog pooling on the ground turned into a sickly red, and each building held more detail to her eyes than before. Doors, windows, stone and metal. The town forming around her grew darker. Gothic, yet at the same time, holding a strange and industrial feel. Slowly through the mist the outlines of people; very strange people, filled the streets. They moved at a pace slower than the walking woman. No two faces held the same appearance. The woman's pace then changed. She slowed, gracefully turning and moving towards one of the buildings. The two yellow eyes stalking her from the shadow watched. The woman grinned, drawing her hands over the wooden door until placing them upon a strange lock and chain on the outside. She placed a exotic key in the lock. The very moment the key unlocked the door, a horrible groan echoed from the ground, as if the very earth itself was falling asunder, yet no change came to the city, or it's people. The echo is all there was. The door of the building, shaped like crescent moon, opened slowly with a foreboding creak. As it did the rumbling groan grew louder. The inside of the building was deeply dark, the light from under her feet was drained, and washed away. A creature appear, scanning the street. Bringing it's sight upon all of the passer-bys, before looking directly through the young woman. It's features were corrupted and bestial, nearly appearing as a humanoid. It's black eyes focused on the figure crawling beside the woman. It glared through the crawling figure with a deep loathing. The creature was horrific to behold. The kneeling figure seemed to press the outlines of what would be it's temples, and the overwhelming atmosphere reached it's crescendo.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Poison Crafting Suggestion
« on: March 09, 2005, 08:45:00 pm »
Let's face it. It's 2rd on the list of the most useless trades. Below only fishing. As it is right now, you do excessive amounts of gathering for little actual payoff. The system itself has a lot of potential. It is a means for the less-than-good characters to come to the same ends as the goodie-two-shoes, but in their own way. It will add a layer to the weak and nearly non-existant underworld, and I believe give life to this trade.

There are three lacking qualities in the poison crafting system: duration, style, and diversity. The poison when applied to weapons lasts for about 12 seconds. Two rounds. That is enough to get one hit in. And considering the fact that most enemies that of most enemies that could fail the poison save, or let alone, not be totally immune to it, will die faster to you if you did not waste your time applying the poison. The lack of diversity of poisons is obvious. There are certain poisons that come from certain types of creatures. The creatures themselves are fine. But the lack of diverse poisons leaves us with one few constitution damage poisons, and I believe only one or two dexterity damage ones. In most cases the 1d2 Strength Damage is pointless with the fort save. Espically when the rogue feat Crippling Strike is factored into it.

DIVERSITY

My suggestion is a simple one; to change it to 7 tiers and keep the poison reagents the same, but change the way it is made. For example, the system I had in mind would factor in two other trades, Enchanting and Alchemy.

The poison will be divided by DC, starting at DC 14 and moving up and finally ending at highest in NWN, DC 26. The three types of poisons that are already in game are Dexterity, Constitution, and Strength.

To begin, the basic idea would use "Essense" of the correct stat, created by an Alchemist. For the DC 14 Strength Poison, you would need an Essense of Strength, etc.

The basic reagents would be...

Poison.
Essense of correct type.
Flask.

I believe that poisons should be divided like this:

DC 14 - Small Spider
DC 16 - Giant Spider
DC 18 - Phase Spider
DC 20 - Dire Spider
DC 22 - Bebilith
DC 24 - Spider Queen
DC 26 - Bastard Sword Spider

This makes a total of twenty one poisons, of three different flavors, and seven different strengths. But, this is not where I believe it should end. The permanent poisons were a very good idea. But the method in which they were applied to weapons was not. Anything could be made into a poison weapon, and they would sell for a lot of gold. But, because of this, I believe that pre-poisoned craftable weapons should be allowed. The weapon types should be limited. I believe that Daggers, Shortswords, Darts, and Rapiers should be the only weapons for now. (Any other ideas?) This makes for a total of 48 weapons.

The poisons would be in four different strengths, on the three types of metals with enhancement bonuses (Iron, Ada, Mithral): Mild (DC 14), Average (DC 18), Strong (DC 22), and Deadly (DC 24). They basic reagents would be...

(5) Poison (Of the correct type, and DC).
Enchanting Oil.
Crystal Rod (1-4)
Weapon.
Gem enchanted with matching stat. (Alexandrite for Mild and Average. Diamond for Strong. Emerald for Deadly.)

The Poisons needed for this would be:

DC 14 = Dire Spider
DC 18 = Bebilith
DC 22 = Queen Spider
DC 24 = Bastard Sword Spider

The weapons would have the same alignment restrictions as the Poison Tool (True Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, and Evil Alignments.)

DURATION

The duration of the current poisons makes them nearly useless. I believe that thirty seconds (five rounds) or even sixty would be best. The reasons being that you are removed from stealth while you apply a poison. The second being the distance you have to travel, and the time you wait to attack. By the time you get to your target, you have either already been discovered and loose the element of suprise, or the poison has already faded from your weapon. When you consider the dexterity required to apply poisons with success, it would not give fighters an extra edge, unless they invested HEAVILY in their dexterity. And because of that, they would deal less damage per hit when compared to your average strength-based fighter.

STYLE

Poison crafting should be illegal, and the use should be punished by in game officials. The crafting stations should be hidden in shady places. Such as the back of Temples of Banderback, sewer rooms (the chessboard area in Hlint's undercity is perfect...), and other places where it would fit. As of right now it seems to be an almost acceptable practice. This minor change would add more thrill to a dull and meaningless craft.

I have thought long and considered this request ever since the perm poisons were removed. I think this trade has a lot going for it, but it has not yet been realised. Thank you for your time. Also, I would like it for this post to NOT dissolve into a thread about who should and should not use poisons.

Development Journals and Discussion / An end to stories...
« on: November 04, 2004, 11:47:00 am »
As the morning came so did the news of this strange sighting. Matilda Landsend was spotted running through the town wailing and screaming as loud as her frail body would let her. She was always an unusual and quiet girl, but she has never been like this. She tore through the morning crowd with her hands planted firmly over her ears. She made her way to the North gate passing the Temple of Ilsare. Her armor lie in pieces, leaving a silver trail to her final resting place. In the forests just past Hlint her body was found. A blackened shortsword which seemed to steal the very light from around it pierced her midsection. She lied in the field alone, no footprints to be seen but her's. To this day some townsfolk swear they see her peeking around corners and hiding in the shadows, dressed in her tattered and worn black robes.

So, ye want to 'ear 'bout th'strangest lass I e'er met then? I'll tell ye th'tale I guess. Ain't likey we're movin' too far, what with all th' buckets parkin' 'emselves in th'harbor. She was a mean an' vile lil' lass, she was. Th' only thin' sharper than 'er teeth was her tounge, they say. Hair wild like a lion's, an' fingers to match. 'least thats how th' story goes.

When she wanted ye to see 'er, ye did. Sure'n ye did. Loike an' Elf she was. Taller though. Ain't a lanky lass none, either. Built a lot like'er.. eh... guessin' if ye took a cat an' put 'er upright ye'd see 'er in it's eyes, ye'd see. 'course ye'd need to get th' cat holdin' 'er two swords ye would, an' I don't see ye doin' that. 'less yer one o' 'em nature tricksters.

She ne'er told nobody 'er name, th' tale goes. She'd say.. "Th' tags Key. Jest Key." I saw 'er meself once, I did. Bit b'fore she up'n disappeared. Right, I'll tell ye 'bout that I thinkin'. Th' tale goes a bit like this...

Ol' Key was makin' 'er way back'ter Karthy from some place, she was. Ne'er knew just what it t'was. Could'er been anythin' really. Considerin' all th' ruins ye'll find on Dregar. She was makin' 'er way through town like. Doin' 'er usual thin'. A careful eye 'ould see her movin' an'a takin'. An' e'eryone's purse 'round 'er shrinkin', while 'er's mysteriously grows in size, it did. Well, anyway. Some guards caught ont'er, they did. Ne'er did we think it'll 'appen. But they gave 'er chase like th' wind. She was bloody fast, she was. But these buggers caught upt'er like it was nothin'.

I should'a mentioned this b'fore, but if ye got too close an' she didn't like it none, ye usually lost somethin' importanta ye. This time it t'was an' arm o' th' guard. Right through 'is armor. 'is blood pourin' over an' makin' th' red plate 'e wore even worse lookin'. Ne'er did I see such'a thin' in me life. Wee lil' thin' cuttin' right through it. Well, ain't needin' no senseta it. Word tells she was a Devil, she was. Ne'er denied it, or told ye th' straight truth. Guessin' that makes more proof than ye think. So, takin' 'er devil blade up from 'em she cut 'is arm twixted th' elbow an' th'sholder.

Thats 'bout th' last I saw o' 'er. She made for an' alley she did. Then thin's get a lil' fuzzy like, they do. She up'n burst inta nothin', some say. Th' guards that made after 'er, ain't ne'er found. All gone ina flash o' red an' white lights an' fires. If ye pick through th' alley ye'll see ash an' th' smell o' fresh fires even after it gets all cleaned up, don't ye know. Hot'er than th' Hells, it is. Eh.. mebbe its hot AS th' Hells now that I'm puttin' th' thought inta it...

Sometimes things are just best left hidden. Llunieninque Artuile'rosse was always known as a teacher and lover of the spoken word. Thats perhaps why she always found herself in the company of Bards, story tellers, Gnomes, and Halflings. She seemed to soak up every single word and letter, and would retell every story she knew at the first possible chance. But beneath those thin robes and frail body there was an intense power. For nearly her entire life she studied the Enchanting Arts. Eventually becomming perhaps the greatest living practicer of that School upon Layonara. A few walked in her path, mostly her first and most successful student, Maddison Trenton. But she has been known to take others. That is, of course, until she had decided to return to her home. Her REAL home.

She always believed she was raised at first in Willow's Weep. A place of strange and complex buildings, of pure Elven construction. She was very correct in this. But she never made it home. Her mind was a powerful thing, and she was known to exchange riddles with the Titans and the Dragons and come out the winner nearly every time. A prized possession, many would say. Such a mind would be a perfect weapon, were it not for her strict morals and total lack of interest in the artform that was forced upon her at an early age. Traveling through the Great Rift she walked carefully, even though she knew nothing would be able to see her. As you see, she was not simply an Enchantress. She also mastered the School of Transmutation in her times upon Mistone. She was able to walk as though she was an etheral being. Nothing would be able to see her here. But she could never take solace in that fact. There is a strange pulling there in the Great Rift to all that are in tune with The Weave. Nobody knows just what happened in the Great Rift, save to say that she left from one side and did not exit on the other. A body was never found, and only one of her possessions was ever found; a broken and shattered sea shell clip used to hold her hair in place.

// I won't be playing here anymore. NWN has me worn out. I'm tired of lacking any ambition to do anything constructive. I spend too much of my time playing a very addictive and GOOD game. But I'd rather worry about my life now, and save the games for later. I'll stick around to post and whatever. Maybe set up a few Halo games. But I'm going back to my friends I can talk to face to face and do this less epic.

See you all later!

"In my travels of Mistone I have found a hive of Vampires. For fear of them learning of our efforts, I would wish to keep their location private. I am putting a call out to the Followers of the Three Gods of Law to put an end to such an affront. I am requesting that all of able body, spirit, and mind join me at the Temple of Toran in Fort Llast three hours to the moon's peak on the eve of the Day of Prayer so that we shall bring the justice and wrath of our Gods upon the heathens.

Matilda Landsend,
Priestess of Toran"

// 9pm EST this Sunday. I'm looking for levels 8-14. I will make exceptions, like one level higher or lower. Followers of Toran, Vorax, and Rofirein only please - because of the holy nature of this crusade.  But I want people to be able to hold their own, while relying on eachother. This is the first of many holy crusades I hope to start, or atleast take part in. Just showing up will be fine, you don't need to PM me about it - though that would be nice!

Roleplaying / Custom Text Macros
« on: October 18, 2004, 06:28:00 pm »
A lot of people are sending out accidental shouts on the Macros. So, Im going to post a little helpful hint I doubt many will ever see or read. Hehe. Anyway. Make sure to put /tk BEFORE the text you want your character to display. This will default it to the talk channel. So, an example of a Custom text macro is..

Title - Help!
Body - /tk Help!

Title is the first pop up, and is the text that will show up on the quickslot. Body is the actual text that is displayed. Wow. Hey. Even confused myself.

Roleplaying / Soul Stones - A request to players.
« on: October 17, 2004, 09:22:00 pm »
This is a one-sided request, but I feel it is needed. I can recall only two instances where someone I had raised actually carried a Soul Stone. I'm asking this now, because I am about halfway to level 13. Which is a big level for Clerics here. We get Resurrection. Without a Soul Stone on the dead player Clerics take 10,000 Xp hit. Twice as much as the Raise Dead hit of 5000.

Anyway. Soul Stones should be an expected thing on a mid to high level adventurer. For what they do they come at a very low cost. My character with no Appraise ranks can buy them for less than 2,200 gold. Though I will ALWAYS raise a Follower of Toran and his direct allies, Rofirein and Vorax. Proably friendly Gods too. But anything else, it is getting to the point where I will not raise them unless they have a Soul Stone. I've lost nearly 60,000 in Raise Deads alone this week. Thats what brought this along.

And please, don't turn this into a discussion about Clerics. I know that atleast one person will want to post that Clerics are able to get Xp with little or no difficulty. But we earn it like everyone else, and thats why it's so harsh when we loose it to something so easy to fix.

Development Journals and Discussion / The Life of a Lost Child
« on: September 23, 2004, 09:33:00 am »
This small thing - an insignifcant little creature - what is she? It upon the surface appears to be nothing more than just a child. Perhaps a lost and confused one, as her choice of attire is quite unflattering of her features, but a child nonetheless. What could this child be doing? It is obvious that she, at one point in her life, would laugh and play as all the others do. But why now, does she sit alone, off in the shadows, sobbing quietly to herself?

To understand that, one must take into consideration the epic stalemate of good versus evil. Two opposing sides, facing forever upon an infinite battlefield which spans the entire Multiverse. Deep within her, under the quite and often tranquil waters of her earthly visage, such a battle rages. Something, which sits dormant in most things has been stirred and awoken. Slowly, inch by inch, she is consumed by it. Here, evil has strength and the advantage. She is but a weak child. She doesn't have the will to stand against it. No matter how far she runs, or how much she hides, it always comes to her some how. She turns inward. Perhaps to contain whatever it is within her?

Whatever the cause, day by day she grows to rely on it. And worse still, she is starting to depend upon it. You see, whatever it is within her which consumes her so, it acts with her. As if it is using her to lash out at the world. Small bursts of energy, weak creatures running in fear, and strange and often violent images appearing. She doesn't understand. Is she a monster? Or, is something inside her a monster? Whatever it is, it has grown worse. The more she uses it, the more she MUST use it. She has an urge, perhaps an addiction to it. Yes, that explains it best. To quench her thirst of it, she must use it more and more. Whatever it is that consumes her so, I see it as perfection. She is perfect.

- A letter to the High Priest of Corath, explaining findings on a little child of Hlint.

If a CDQ is required (I don't want to take up other people's time, considering I've just completed one, and have another in the works for a different character of mine) I will put this off until things are free, and open. But I wanted to submit this as a request of a few things. I want my little Sorcerer to be something different than what she is. Reading up on the Gods, I finally decided what I'd like her to be. A Cleric of Corath. Now, before you think that little old 8bit is just looking to cause some chaos and start problems, I'm really not. I want this to be involentary for the character. Like she is forced into the clergy. She already secretly likes what she is doing. But she also loathes it. I would like to play her with a CN alignment, and stay away from evil if at all possible. She would totally start from level 1. Again, so using the above as the Bio, I will resubmit and await approval.

I wanted to do something like a newsrag. Something on the forums where a team of "reporters" can post interesting information about quests, Plot NPCS, etc. Just wanted to bounce the idea and get some help before I put any effort into it myself.

Key will be doing this for sure, however.
