Layonara Server / Framerate Hitching Issues
« on: June 24, 2017, 09:28:06 am »
Hello Layonara Team,For the past couple months I've been experience some massive framerate hitching that appears to crop up as soon as I get into combat.  This unfortunately makes the game almost unplayable to me as it makes it impossible for me to react to any situation on time.  Sometimes when I cast a spell I will not see its results or if it was cast properly until the battle is completely over, or that enemies are on me until its too late and I'm suddenly taking damage.  In short I believe the server's fps is not in line with my computer's.I've tried and am still trying a few things to help me with the issue, and any suggestions to help me resolve this would be greatful. This started happening during two moments which I don't know might be the cause for me.  I saw a hint on the web that for high end computers that have i7 chips you should go into your nwnplayer.ini file and under [Game Options] change Client CPU Affinity=-2.  I decided to give that a try and at the same time the server was updated to add the combat animations, mapping, etc.  This is about when the hitching started for me.  I have since went back to my .ini file and changed it back to Client CPU Affinity=0[/b], but this has not changed anything with the hitching. This only seems to happen when I get into combat.  Currently I decided to bring my visual settings to the absolute lowest value to see how it will effect it, but I have not tested it yet (recently died before making the changes and don't want to test while suffering the effects of death). The laptop I use for this game is an ASUS G751J.

Development Journals and Discussion / The cost for Freedom
« on: April 29, 2017, 01:29:12 pm »
((Quick blurb.  Unlike the journal, which is a reflection on events that happen in game and her thoughts as she progresses.  This will be meant as a more in the present character developement of the business she conducts outside of the NWN game (actions vice written entries).  This is not a CDQ as I will not request DM interaction for the things I place here, but if a DM feels inclined to add any form of interaction I do welcome it (also, if it seems I've stepped out of line where I write something that really should involve DM's responding for an NPC please let me know and I will revise it, in the case of this current story, I'm assuming the slave will be 100% complient as she was when we bought her), part of the reason for these stories is to also eventually progress into a CDQ when the time comes to nessesitate for one (or more along the lines of having these stories justify and give background to said CDQ when a request is made).  Like a CDQ I might request other players to be involved (which is what will really seperate this from my journal entries), and when/if that happens I will send those players a PM as well as mark the bottom of that specific thread with a *Character Name.   Enjoy!))            After a few hours of drink and discussion, Lia motions the slave girl by Vrebel’s command to follow.  Arranging passage from Arnax to Mistone, Lia turns to the girl with a slightly perplexed expression, but tries to smile, “Hyi honestleh didn’t think much past this point, thought hit would beh heasier once the chains were hoff.”  She looks off toward the horizon as the ship readies to depart, “Hyi should know better than haneh’one how hard these thins hare.”            Staring back at the slave she speaks in a more assertive tone, “Yo hare ha freh woman now, not that yo hundertand that, not yet, but Hyi will help yo.  For now, yo will haddress meh has Lia, not miss, mistress, hor haneh title beh haneh hother name, but meh hown.  Deh yo hunderstand?”  ((haha, was just thinking if anyone could understand that, “you will address me as Lia, not miss, mistress, or any title by any other name, but my own.  Do you understand?”))  Not waiting for an answer, “The hothers hand Hyi know someone who will give yo work, hand sheh will pay yo for hit.  Yo can spend yor hearnins has yo seh fit.  Hyi, hon the hother hand, will hinstruct yo; mind yo, not hin matters hof the harcane, but more hof han heducation fit for the wealtheh.  Yo will learn proper grammar hin common, readin, hand writin.  Yo will studeh philosopheh hand ha generalization hof hour hyuniverse hand the world weh live hin, has well has trade.   The woman Hyi hintroduce yo teh will likeleh halseh teach yo how teh deh the work she wants hof yo.  Hif yo show hinterest hin something, Hyi will treh teh get hinteh more detail habout that, hor direct yo teh someone who can teach yo better.”            As the sails unfurl and they set off, Lia looks away again at the sea and smiles, “Huntil then, let hus entertain hourselves with storeh.  Hits ha lon journeh hand Hyi can’t spend the whole time talkin, seh let meh hear ha bit habout yo hand Hyi will tell yo ha bit habout meh.”            The journey to Krandor is a long one and Lia spends the time talking about her time as a sailor on the Lucinda’s Star and the untimely end of that life.  She speaks of her adventures since the sinking and of her alchemy, “Gatherin the hingredients require ha bit hof trade, seh yo will come with meh has Hyi geh teh gather the safer hof materials.”  To give herself credit as a tutor she also mentions that she was once a teacher at a school for the arcane long ago called the Arcane Alliance, but for the most part she tries to give the slave room to talk.            When they finally reach an all too familiar door at 148 Krandor, Lia knocks.*Ferrit... or anyone else living in her house, but Lia will ask for Ferrit once the door opens.

Forum Discussion / Website not touch screen friendly
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:44:37 am »
Not a huge priority, but I sometimes find myself wanting to examine the lore, forums or any other aspects of Layonara while on breaks at work or maybe on the road (any situation I don’t have a computer with me).  The problem is when I do this, I only have my phone or tablet with me and the top menu's occasionally (more often than not) do not want to cooperate with me, forcing me to select the top option (such as Lore) before being able to select anything in the dropdown, making those menu's completely unavailable to me.I’ve tried working around it, but I can't find any other means to access the other menu's and it’s just overall frustrating when you quickly want to look something up and you know where to look, but the only way you know to get there becomes a game of how fast you can select something after selecting something else (which doesn’t always work even when you think you won).

Liberating SubjugationMy fellow adventurers, I need not emphasize my distaste regarding the chattel of sentient beings, as I am sure many of you share my revulsion.  I am also not so presumptuous as to assume that I could abolish slavery, but I find myself weighing the cost of idle rumination while I carry the potential to do more, however infinitesimal the deed may be.So I ask those willing to join me in Arnax; we will take the roads north through Fort Nesar and as far up to borders of Khul as possible.  We will then roam as far north as feasable until we reach Hilm as our final destination.  Along the way we will engage with the slavers who chose not to emancipate their ill-gotten gains and we will assail their camps and hideouts to manumit all captives.  Once in Hilm I will provide our liberated with enough Truth to allow them time to become self-sufficient.I am willing to hear any advice and information regarding my request for aidLia((I wanted to add that DM aid is not required for this in game.  What my intention is we go through the areas mentioned including caves off the road that could harbor these unsavory sorts, haha, and RP as per normal throughout the adventure having fun.  After that if possible, I would love a bit of DM interaction via forums to help specify how many slaves recovered if any and any other potential RP that can happen after arriving in Hilm.Made a minor change to the note after learning about Khul's borders closing.))

General Discussion / wizard hat
« on: December 31, 2016, 01:18:46 pm »
For customization purposes, is the wizard hat look only for male characters and/or specific races?I know you can get the look, but couldn't find it for my character.  If female elves can get the look could someone inform me what the item code for it is?If not, well, I think it's a crime my female elf can't have an over the top flamboyant wizards hat.  Heh.

Rumour Has It / The sinking of the Lucinda's Star
« on: October 21, 2016, 12:21:23 pm »
((OOC Note: Let me know via PM if the accent is too strong.  I mention this because I want it to be noticeable, but not misunderstood.  If it’s really hard to read what I’m saying then I want to tone it down a bit.))                 Looking quite exhausted and disheveled an elf stumbles upon the small haven of Center.  While passerby’s showed signs of curiosity for her current appearance she beeline's to the Bull’s Eye Inn, neglecting their concern.  She slumps into the first available bar stool and demands a drink.  The bartender queries her, stating that it looks as if she has a story to tell.                “Yah’, head west hyof’ here, hoff’ the coast’f Windjammahs bah.  You will find hremnants’ hyof’a shipwreck.”  She pauses to down her entire drink in one mouthful, “Don’t know hef’ thah’ will be ‘nough drink’n the wohld’ foh’ meh hright’ now.”                As the evening progresses her story continues, telling all who would listen.                “Hyi’ was the ships Quartermastah’…  Wasah’ good crew, but hyonleh Hyi’ mahdit’.  Weh’ were hyattacked’ yeh’ seh’.  Wizahds’ feh’ sure.  Two ship’s yeh’ seh’, well hyorganized.”                “The Lucindah’s Stah’.  Weh’ were supplyin’ goods hyof’ magical nachah’, supposed teh’ beh’in Poht’ Hempstead beh’ now Hyi’m sure.”                Day’s go by and she continues to tell her story to merchants, adventurers, anyone who is simply passing by that can spread the news.  Especially those heading to Port Hempstead, she makes sure to keep mental note to eventually write down names and descriptions of those who seem particularly upset about her predicament and/or showing desire to investigate the situation themselves.
“Hyis’ thah’ wohk’ the’ beh’ had hehr’?  Don’t look hyat’ meh’ like that, Hyi’ve plenteh’ time teh’ grieve.  Meh’ livelehood’s gone hyand’I nehd’ wohk’.”  She was simply directed to the main notice board.

Forum Bugs / Character Database
« on: October 20, 2016, 11:36:51 am »
It seems the usual issue that characters with the same name in game (or similar) has been transfered to the character database in the forums.  I have no issues logging into the game and chosing the new character as intended when I enter the game, but when I try to look her up in the forums, the link leads to the level 20 character.

General Discussion / Chuckles Online
« on: October 20, 2016, 11:27:16 am »
Hey,Creating this thread as a place to post when I intend to be online for a relatively long period.  If anyone wishes to join me, we can enjoy some low level gameplay fun.I live in the PST timezone and am usually back from work at around 4:30pm.  Family obligations make long term play difficult, but not impossible (a couple dedicated days of the week).  This of course makes forum RP very ideal.Starting next month I will be on a course to help me move forward in my new career.  The timezone there is CST and I will also have a lot more free time with exception to school and studies.I will also be trying to make every Friday Night Round Robin (you can add me to the roster if you want Acacea, but I currently have no suggestions on what we can do).

Development Journals and Discussion / A New Beginning - Lia Di'Makiir
« on: October 08, 2016, 07:25:04 pm »

Commemoration and Strategizing          Mustering what strength she can Lia surveys the wreckage that was once her livelihood for whatever supplies she can gather.  She sees none of her fellow shipmates as she riffles through drenched and tattered clothing in hopes of finding some signs of life beyond her own.  Emotion materializes once again on her features throughout her search; discovering the captain’s favorite cap, Ol’ Hikreg’s lucky wooden dice, Gam’s (their youngest and newest crewmate) scarf. With the sun past its peak, she decides to stay and create a memorial with all the personal effects she can find.  Grabbing a small crate she can sit on she plays her sea damaged flute to the best of her ability to her now lost family. As the sun begins to sink she places the flute with the rest of the items and readies a fire for the evening.          Distraught and restless the rising sun begins to great her to a less then lively reception.  Searching once more she slowly eats what little rations she finds and discovers a sturdy chest undamaged, ‘Captain Rumeim’s I presume,’ she concludes. She spends a good portion of the morning trying to pry, break and lightly kick the crate open, only to realize in her embarrassment that the locking mechanism was disengaged the whole time.  Inside she finds a ships log, a few blank books, some first circle scrolls and a pouch of Truth’s.  Lifting a rather large, well bound, and intricate blank book she concludes ‘My Old Grimoire is in the bottom of the Windjammers Bay, so I will need a new one and this should suffice for a start.’  Finally, after clearing the chest she takes what little rations left she finds and begins to move.          ‘Our next port of call was Port Hampstead and we were expected to arrive in about 3 days’ time from the attack.  I’m guessing my pursuers, whoever they may be, might continue looking that way just in case.  If I’m correct, Center and Fort Wayfare should be closer to where I’m currently located.  It’s a good location to stock up and find some work as well, for I will need to prepare for what’s to come.’          Following the road north, Lia manages to bind the book of high quality with new spells from the scrolls she found in the chest and begins to write.          Even after 50 odd years someone just cannot let it be.  Whatever your justifications, innocent lives were lost because of you and you will pay for they were friends, they were my family.  Know that when you meet me again, I will be as I was.  I will be strong again and I will show no mercy.          With that off her chest she breaths in controlled breaths and contemplates for some time before the scribbling continues.          I will need a plan starting with the highest of priorities.  As a sailor would confess after feeding the fish, “I simply need to regain my sea legs.”  Center used to be an adventurers hub which could provide me with capable compatriots.  These adventurers have no need to know who I was, but lying will not be wise either; if I stick to a first name basis, then I could potentially keep my secret longer without losing trust.  Of course, I will also need to find work in order to attain the power I require to finish this once and for all.          The lives lost will not be in vein.  While inadvisable at this time, it matters not; I will spread awareness of the deeds that were done to the Lucinda’s Star.  Hopefully it will bring the culprits to light, even if it means they find me before I’m ready.  Perhaps I will be fortuitous and have others by my side when it happens.  I am an adventurer after all now, so I should now be inclined to the habitual behavior of seeking endangerment.((In the word document I wrote this in the font I used for her writting in the book was a Brush Script, or handwritting.  Unfortunately I can't transfer that here, would have added a bit to this I think by implementing that she has neat handwriting.  In any case, it's still a different font here so it can be easily seperated from the narration and thought bubbles.))

Quests Ideas and Discussion / Forum RP Suggestion
« on: October 04, 2016, 07:41:57 pm »
I wanted to suggest something I saw another server do which in my opinion was well received. It's basically a player introduced forum RP that DM's and other players of that individual's permission can take part in, that will create a result in game.  The result can be mechanical, reputation, etc.To clarify, I will explain how it was used on the other server.  The other server was set up where a new land was discovered by human beings and through it discovered other races and magic.  The forum specified for my request was an established research forum, allowing upcoming wizards who wanted to learn this new arcane power to be the creators of spells that would then be added to the server, humans explored new lands that could eventually be added as areas in game.  For other RP perspectives, a new metal could be discovered and a person starts a research thread to find a way to forge it properly into a weapon; characters could try and create relations with the other races. While Layonara would obviously not have the same reasons for such threads, there are still opportunities for things like joining and rising in the ranks of an NPC organization, developing political influence, buying land, attempting to attain a PrC, etc.  This basically allows a player to gain progress through GM and player interaction without having to coordinate online times between all parties or having to make a quest for every little detail.  Also if the DM responding feels as such, they can make a ruling that the final assessment for the player to achieve their goal within the thread has to be done via CDQ in game. Also, so there is no burnout, the other server set up a limit on how many research threads were allowed, which can be done here as well.  If I recall they said 2 per player, 1 per character under that player, and a player can cancel a research thread at any time to make a new one.

Forum Discussion / Mark all messages as read button
« on: October 04, 2016, 07:15:36 pm »
I was wondering if there is a single button in the forums that after pressed allows me to mark all messages as read.  I can't seem to find one, and if there isn't I would like to suggest it in these froums.  This allows players and DM's alike to manage forum posts they've read, haven't read and don't want to read for times sake.  It's a great way to ensure your're looking at all the posts that would interest you specifically while filtering out those that don't nessisarily matter to you without having to go into every single one individually.

LORE Ideas, Suggestions and Requests / Duelist
« on: September 14, 2016, 07:43:16 pm »
I honestly don't know if this should be in the LORE bugs forum or in this one, but I noticed 2 things while browsing the duelist class under LORE.1. The Duelist requires 5 ranks in persuade, but it is not a class skill.  This just does not make sense in an RP standpoint.  Why would you be required to learn and train in a skill to get into a certain trade or career only then to have absolutely nothing to do with that skill once you are in said trade/career.  Might I suggest that either:a. the requirement be switched to bluff which is a class skill and similar to persuade in that its a social skill; or,b. add persuade as a class skill for duelist.  If you think that makes it too many, then remove bluff, persuade makes more sense anyways. 2. This is more of a question that would lead to a suggestion based on the answer.  Does the Rangers Dual Wield count the same as the ambidexterity requirement to take the class?  Since Dual Wield is basically the same feat and then some, it definately should and would only lead to redundant feat aquisition just to take the class otherwise.

Introduce Yourself / Looking around after so many years
« on: August 30, 2016, 11:35:20 am »
Good Day,     Nostalgia hit me recently and I wanted to see how my old favorite server has been doing.  It's been almost 10 years now since I last stepped foot in the world of layonara and I'm honestly surprised I remember my password.  For those curious, I used to play a mouthy seductress named Lia Di'Makiir.     Times have changed a lot for me and I honestly don't know if I have enough time to get back into the game, but a lot of my young adult life and growing up happened throughout my time here and I wanted to see how the server has grown.  I remember talk about a seperate project for an MMO, how is that project going?     Anyways I'm enjoying myself just reading up on the lore again and recent events.  I'll be browsing the forums for awhile yet as I determine whether I should jump in or not.     Have a nice day.

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Sailing
« on: September 03, 2007, 11:44:51 pm »
hello, just want everyone to know that starting tomorrow till the 23rd of November I'm going to be on many various sails... though I'll be home on a few weekends and I'll have 2 weeks in between at home as well (one week I know is monday the 24th of September till the friday, but I can't remember the other on the top of my head), For the most part I wont be able to stick to my 3 days a week promise for opening the inn until the 23rd.

I will still open it occasionally though.

518
*when one takes a closer look, they can see the sign at the front that says "open"*

((okay, I guess I'll explain ooc now.  I'll be opening the inn up atleast 3 days a week for atleast 2 hours each day (not counting special opening events, with entertainment, Lalaith may plan).  These openings are simply to have the Leringard Arms act as a normal inn; a place to eat, drink, relax and tell your tales amongst others.

With that said, I can only garauntee opening it atleast 3 days a week for atleast 2 hours a day.  My life is never planned and I will always take presidence in RL events then Layonara and I will not be able to say in advance what days I can open it... However, if you see this thread updated, it will mean that I've opened the Leringard Arms at that moment (makes sure you check the hours I posted it of course).  Then send me a quick "tell" in game to open the door for you.  Most likely, if you see me in game, it will mean, I'm either crafting, doing a quest that suits my character, or opening the inn.  So you can send me a tell asking me if its open as well if you see me online, I wont mind.

It will also allow my character to hear about adventures and on whats going on in the world without having to exactly go on them.  She has quite the opinion on adventuring right now and I have it so she only goes on them if she feels they will help her with her studies to wizardry.))

519
((what I really wish to do with my journal entries is write down what I can in word then copy it onto parchment folders in game, actually having her keep a journal.  Unfortunately I'm having problems with the parchments right now and so have left everything on word until I can fix that, as well as until my character is accually on Lore.

What I will have attached here is what my character wrote down so far.  I post it here for constructive critisism, so please, go all out, heh.))

Roleplaying / darts and throwing knives
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:20:36 pm »
When it comes to that point where my character starts using weapons... I wanted her to be a knife person... unfortunately there are no throwing knives in NWN, so the question becomes:

Can darts be RPed as such?  I know darts do about 1d4 damage, and I beleive throwing knives do 1d6, but this may be a minor technicality and should have no grounds on to the RP of the matter.  Or should it?

I would like some opinions on this.
