I have been kicking around a concept of a new character. But Im stuck trying to figure out how to represent the skills I want him to have and yet come off as a "level 1" character.

In this example say he is a hired killer. How can I give him a story of going out and killing people when at level 1 a rat in the Hempsted Sewers will be a challenge for him? LOL

I ask because I know with some submissions ive seen request to dull the story down. Saying that was too much power / knowledge for a level 1 to have.

Thanks for any advice.

Rumour Has It / Clan Blood stocking up for... ?
« on: May 02, 2010, 06:37:03 pm »
Many travelers that pass thru the swamps near Hlint report seeing lizard men carrying supplies deep into the swamps to the Temple of the Blood Clan. What can those lizards be up to? Perhaps preparing to mount an assult against the town of Hlint?

//If you wish to look into this I request you take a group and not just solo in with your invis, sneak, or G-san character, thanks!! :)

Ask A Gamemaster / Content Team taking applications?
« on: May 02, 2010, 12:12:31 am »
The title really says it all. I was wondering if the Content Team for this version of Layo is looking for help?

I was on the content team in the past helping make items (blue suede shoes, knuckle bone necklace and many others) and areas...  (Mists temple, Folians temple and path to it and more). I truly enjoyed my time here on the content team and if the team needs a hand with areas, items etc... I would like to help out once more.

Thanks

General Discussion / Ideas to spark interest.
« on: May 01, 2010, 09:08:14 pm »
I know Dorg said some changes are comming in a recent thread. But I thought I would toss out some other ideas to see if we can spark some interest in the ole place. Some of these have been talked about in other threads, but I wanted to put them into this one as well. Some of these ideas are probably not even possible for the NwN version of Layo... but I wish to bring them up all the same.

1. Double XP week(end) (some % of a boost in XP) I missed the last one of these... how was the reception?

2. Increased loot or coin drops (say for a weekend)

3. Put +4 (and maybe +5) items into the loot table. Perhaps they are already.

4. New items to the loot tables. Id like to even see a sort of cycling loot table if that were possible.. say every so many months what was dropping would change. Kinda like how Disney "locks up" movies for so many years then releases them for sale again.

5. Adding a "Call Home" type ability to all. More than likley a consumable item with some cost to it.

6. Attuneable equipment....this would get those crafters back playing and crafting since that Iron Longsword they made 4 years ago isnt being handed down from player to player anymore.

7. Increase the numbers of characters we can play from 6 to.... ?

8. Adding an "LFG" (Looking For Group) feature to the game, to the forums, etc. A place we can check and see who is wanting to play and not just see that empty server or server of people out of our level range etc.

I would like to see others add what they think in the way of other ideas. But take discussion of an individual ideas to its own thread. Lets keep this just for ideas, not so much the discussion of them. My idea is to stay on topic and give the powers that be a clear view of what the player base beleives may help make this world even better!!! :)

Thanks

As the title says. I cant find an Advanced Weaponsmithing Anvil in the advanced crafting house within Mariners Hold. I only see an Advanced Armor Anvil.

Could we get one added please?

General Discussion / Reality to what extent in a fantasy realm?
« on: April 28, 2010, 01:08:05 pm »
I read some posts here and there lately that made me want to reply to them... but it was not the right thing to do so I'm going to rant here a bit.

We all know this is a Fantasy world where not every rule of our world should apply. I think both sides of this world (Players and Staff) need to keep this in the back of their minds.

If you want the reality you strive for then more changes need to be made across the entire world, Not just to the people trying to creat new characters in it. I read in a post about someones horse not being able to support the character in full armor and garb. Well thats fine and dandy... but why then do we kill fairies that have Halberds... or Plate armor? Snakes that have swallowed hundreds of coins? See where im going here? Why not just accept that in this realm things work just a bit differently horses can carry more than IRL in said example.

I know this isnt my world, but I have a voice in it (just as everyone else here does). And on this issue of using our world rules and applying them to things in a fantasy world it tends to urk me sometimes. Just cut some slack I think within reason of course.

*EDIT* If you wish to be so strict with horses I reccomend a look at the ones in game. How can they support a person carrying hundreds of pounds sometimes over a thousand pounds? Can a real horse do this?

I am not trying to attack anyone person, or point fingers. I just wanted to say my peace. :)

General Discussion / Servers *thumbs up*
« on: April 25, 2010, 10:12:02 am »
I must say the servers sure are more stable than they used to be when I was here last. What is the reason(s) for that? I can't recall the servers ever making it as long they do these days with out a crash, or multiple crashes. lol.

Hats off to the team if this is thru your work on them or newer ones purchased etc.

Legendary Asteroids record smashed - Plugged In - Yahoo! Games

After a grueling 58 hours of continuous play, John McAllister of Seattle, Washington officially became the best Asteroids player on the planet by scoring an unthinkable 41,338,740 points in the classic 1979 coin-op arcade game. The previous mark of 41,336,440 was set by Scott Safran back in 1982 -- the longest standing record in gaming -- and was considered virtually unbreakable.

58 HOURS!! OMG!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Shield Deity images, an idea.
« on: April 05, 2010, 12:42:35 pm »
I love that we can show our Deity on our shields! I had an idea last night about that, I havnt done a search so see if its been brought up before, so here goes. Its 2 ideas really

1. Adding the deity images to the wooden shields. (which lead to idea #2)

2 At least 1, or a series of, faded / beat up looking deity designs for shields. This would represent that old trusty shield that a character has had for ages and simply refuses to let go of for whatever reason, or maybe a hand me down from an old veteran to some new adventurer.

Thanks for considering.

Rumour Has It / Clearing out the squatters
« on: April 01, 2010, 03:02:29 am »
Dot is seen regularly clearing out any squatters (as she calls them) from in and around the tower now owned by Tyra in the dapplegreen outskirts outside Vehl.

Dot seems to be more carefull around behind the tower, spending a bit of time each day scaning the ground. Making the whole area look as un disturbed as possible then leaving.

This goes on proably once every few days as she passes by and sees anyone near the tower.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Exceptional Bags?
« on: March 28, 2010, 02:08:31 pm »
How about we get an Exceptional bag when we roll 20?

Giving an additional 10% weight reduction?

Ex. Cougar = 30% Weight Reduction
Ex. Crag Cat = 50 % Weight Reduction
Ex. Lion = 70% Weight Reduction
Ex. Malar Panther = 90% Weight Recuction

Its been a while since ive mesed around with creating items, I dont recall if those weight reduction increments are even possible.

Was just a thought to reward those 20's :)

I was looking for a you-tube of Dexter's Lab D&DD episode... but all I found was one in spanish. LOL

« on: February 16, 2010, 12:32:16 pm »
Well Im in the process of putting my EQ2 (Ever Quest 2) account on hold. Havn't touched it in a month + so I don't see a reason to give them any more money each month.... plus they just had a new expansion which I don't want to bother forking out $40 bucks for.

So there ya go....  :)

Roleplaying / Deity relations when they are not shared.
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:35:15 pm »
Hey after my questions about a certain set of Deities and how they dont see one another in the same light. Deity X friendly to Deity Z, but Deity Z is an enemy of Deity X.

In this specific instance I am reffering to Vorax and Kithairien.

How far does one take this enemy standing in RP?

Can you travel with an Enemy? Especially one who is very friendly towards you? I know we had that whole common enemy discussion in the other thread... I dont want to open that whole can of worms again though.

Would you cast on them?

Raise them?

I guess I see a potential for some very fun and funny RP here. The Kitharien doing their best to ignore and insult the Voraxian... and the Voraxian just keeps comming back for more. Not seeing why the Kithairien doesnt like them back.

Hey all

I wanted to toss a couple more ideas out and see if they were possible for here. The two ideas kind of go together.

1. Teleportation (for all characters). I had this idea after my second all nighter going after things in The Deep. And the impending "LOOKS" i keot gettig throughout the following days by my wife.
In EQ2 everyone had the ability to use a spell called "Call to(your home city)". It was useable once evey 45 RL minutes. Would something like that be possible here? But probably on a much longer re-use timer? Or perhaps teleport locations in the world you can go to rather than spend hours and hours retracing your steps.... the in game teleporters ties directly into #2

2. Zone Lock Out timer. A zone lock out timer would be for say places in the deep or dungeons etc. What it would do is once you have been to said zone. Once you leave you cannot return for "X" amount of time. That would depend on what the zone was all about. Say anywhere from 8 hours to up to 24 hours or more if the team saw fit lockout.

Why add these ideas? I dont believe every player has 4 to 8 in a row to spend at their PC and make an attempt at getting Mithril, or Emeralds, or say some really awesome dungeon way off someplace. These ideas would allow them to get there but esentially taking the round trip time and cutting it in half. And because it is now so much shorter... adding a lock out timer would keep things in check I beleive.

I believe both of these ideas are possible with NwN. Certain classes in the game can teleport already. And we have zone lockouts that are tied to level, or if you have an item in your inventory. So I dont think it would be too tettible difficult to make a working lockout system (lol yeah I say that from the outside looking in) :)

Thanks

General Discussion / Group Looting, and Items at the end.
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:36:03 pm »
I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about Looting and all that fun stuff that comes at the end when the loot is gone over by the group.

1. Definatly assign a looter in your group... and contrary to popular beleive it DOES NOT have to be the rogue or the scout's job every time. The group should assign whom they trust with that role (would your character really trust that shady person dressed in all black stabbing everything in the back with the role of keeping hold of the money and items you might find?)

2. If you are not the looter, dont look at dead corpses. If the looter sees you do that and move on.. they may assume that body has nothing on it and leave it go as well. We have a system in place that announced EVERYTHING that is looted. So you really have no reason to look.

3. Set some rules at the start... be they IC or OOC... do it at the begenning so there is no grumbles at the end.
I would reccomend trying a Need Before Greed for loot drops.

What that does is, if the item in question your character wants and will use personally. They have dibs over say someone who wants it because they know they can make money selling it, they know a friend who wants it etc....
This IMO is only fair to those who wish to use it and helped earn it. Versus those who wont use it directly.

If no one Needs the item to use on the toon they are playing... the item then falls to Greed. Basically anyone who wants it, for whatever purpose can then roll for the item or take it at this point if no one else ask for it.

If anyone else has sugestions they wish to add please do!!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Ranged Weapon Adding a title
« on: February 03, 2010, 12:39:21 pm »
Fighters and Weapon Masters can give your melee weapon a title now.

It is my understanding that no one can add a Title to your ranged weapon... Bow, Crossbow, Sling etc.

I would like to request that Rangers be given the ability to Title all ranged weapons.

Thanks

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Item breakage or Item attuning
« on: February 02, 2010, 10:21:52 am »
Please for the love of everything holy stay away from the item breakage route. Who wants an item they have earned thru blood, sweat and a sore bum from sitting at their PC to go poof 3 hours into The Deep?  Not me!  LOL

Item Breakage:

I cant speak for others but if Item breakage were implemented I would take the following steps (if I continuted to play).

1. I would stop equiping anything that wasn't EASILY replaced anytime I was in a situation where breakage could happen (thus causing lag by having more inventory)
2. Depending on the frequency of said breakage, I would carry "X" times more equipment to compensate this system... (thus causing more lag by having a bloated inventory)

Now an item damage system exists today in EQ2. Each time your toon dies you equipment takes 5% damage... when you equipment reaches 0% you can no longer equip it untill you see a "mender" to repair your items. The higher end the items the more the repairs cost.

I dont see the system above doing anything to take items out of circulation. I see it more as a punishment when you loose a rare / impossible to replace item... and I see the Cracefull Pleas and grievances going thru the roof!!!

Item Attuning:

Look into attuning, or binding an item to your person. Taking items once equipped by a player out of the market and not allowing them to be handed down for ever and ever as we do now.

EQ2 also has this attuning system virtually all items if you choose to equip them. You must first attune them. Then they can no longer be traded to any other players in the game. They can be sold for coin, or donated to your god.

As a player and a Crafter I would be 110% for an item attuning system!!! Crafters would be more in demand, and I beleve prices would stay more resonable as well.

I dont know if either system is even possible in NwN... my guess is not, or we would have something in place already (cause we all know its needed to assist this economy). I just wanted to get this out there... probably not the 1st thread on these issues, and im sure it wont be the last... LOL
