General Discussion / Absent for a while
« on: April 08, 2014, 08:32:20 pm »
Hey all, just wanted to keep anyone who is wondering up to date.  So my hard drive failed and I've been unable to play for the last couple of weeks. It really isn't a great time for that to happen cause I'm also really busy with:1)  Retiring from the Navy2)  Moving to Valdosta, GAI probably won't resolve the computer issue until after I get to Georgia, so I won't be playing for a little while.  Anyway if you are looking for Gunder, Vladimir, Grogmegor, or Arvan, just send me a PM and I'll answer as soon as I can.Dorax (aka Anthony)

Rumour Has It / Missing adventurers
« on: February 24, 2014, 03:11:02 pm »
Talk in the Silver Buckle is heard that a ranger offers to reveal the location of one of his stashes to those who can find out what happened to a group of adventurers that went missing in the Wolfswood. He has found out that they had caches made to supply them in case of an emergency and suggests to check them out - where there's something missing or signs that the cache has been tempered with, there is also a good place to start the search. He has hints leading to the caches for those who wish to investigate and help him find the missing adventurers, but also a warning: that walking around in the Wolfswood isn't exactly a walk in the park, not only because there are giants and such monsters, but also because the Border of Sun is nearby and non-humans should best not let themselves be caught beyond that invisible line.//Hints to be found in the display case near the entry. Geared towards low-levels.

Howdy, everybody. Troll King here. Still need help locating site issues, particularly with regard to formatting, functionality, and content errors on the web site.I know it's a pain in the butt sometimes to stop whatever it is you're doing and post about something you notice is broken/looks strange. However, it really helps us to get a handle on what still needs to be done. Please don't hesitate to use the following forums on a regular basis:Bug Reports (for general bug reporting, including the NWN game client as well as site related issues)Forum Bugs (for bugs specifically related to the forums section of the website)LORE Bugs (for bugs/spelling errors/missing content specifically related to the content under the "Lore" heading in the top menu)Even if you're not sure whetehr what you encounter is a bug or not, please post anyway. At worst, we note that it's not a bug, give an explanation, and that's that. Thanks, everybody!

Rumour Has It / Missing Toranite
« on: February 06, 2014, 09:08:25 am »
A letter arrives for Brualot out of Katherian:Master Brualot,This letter is to inform you that in response to your notice in Center, an expedition set out for the Swamp of Sorrows. Having some familiarity with the troll population there, we located a den of theirs. Amongst the usual hovel and shiny trinkets was a garish, but extraordinary pairs of boots. Our thoughts are that they may belong to your Toranite, and fear the worst. Please advise. Intrepidly Yours,Rasa KirtaRynKalberen Starseeker

Rumour Has It / Lost Merchant
« on: February 05, 2014, 10:08:02 am »
Boris, a slump, fair willed halve orc, walked up to the camp fire, bringing with him his perpetual stink, a fine blend of fresh sewer water and some charcoaly loam, recognizing several of the adventurers there, and their  disdain for his smell. They were Talia, a practicer of the faith, Kalberen, Sehky, and Glitch, tactical fighters well practiced with the ways of the blade, and a shadowy newcommer, Ryn'lida, someone with unclear intentions. Many had just returned from a hard fought battle with some werebeasts in a temple with strange magic. The flare of banter over the evenings affairs is lite and short. Their  voices were starting to trail off, as some began to exit while others started to arrive.Contemplating for a moment, he utterd in his broken language,"...Any ah yew hear about dat miss'n shop keep?"Met by a a wash of shrugs and "No's", he continued;"Ya! Dey was say'n dat he went miss'n near dem Blackstone mountains! Dey say he's dead but dey want fer someone ta bring back his body!"He looked around the crowd, There seemed to be a willingnes among them."Any ah yew wanna go git his body wit me?"Many showed a genuine interest. Talia and others asked where Blackstone mountains were."Dey ain too far from duh Black hills, what ain too far from Corax Lake, what ain too far from Prantz."He barked in his shabby speech, a rough voice paired badly with a short grasp of the language. Then after a few strange moments involving glitter, indigestion,  and Glitches armpits, the party set off in ernest."Alright den! lets git on wit it!" The road to the Blackstone mountains was long, slow and cumbersome, yet the group made their way without incident. At one point some giants attempted to throw them an unkind a welcoming party but the group met them with an acumen.Bugbears on the other hand posed a bit more of a threat yet there too the group showed poise.Opon entering the cave they could hear the hyper hissing af snakes. They made thier aproach guarded and well planned.Out of the darknes a giant black snake attacked and quickly the walls began to ecco with a cacophony of steel coliding, chaos and the rushed madness of battle. At points snakes gained the upperhand! For a moment the peril seemed to overwhelm them, but lead by Glitches swiftnes, Ryn'lida's stealthy aproach, Kalberen's steady hands, Sehky's brutality, Boris's hearty flatulence, and Talia's sure footed healing, they're victory was assured! In the din of the after battle, a body laying nearby became the focal point. The group gathered around it solemnly. Ryn'lida was  the first to approach, followed by Talia who proceded to prepare the body for the trip back home. Her steady hands wrapped the body and she whispered words, lost to Boris's understanding but which seemed kind and enlightening to him. When she finnished Boris carfully lifted the body positioning it over his shoulder. The body flopped about like a ragdoll amid Boris's handeling.Without, a word the group began to make their way home. The return trip was fairly uneventful, after pauseing only to split up the finds of the journey, and Boris's occasional complaints about the extra weight,  they returned to Center, body and all.... To be continued....//The list of players as I recall it are:Ryn'lidaKalberenGlitchTaliaSehkeyand me..BorisIf I'm missing anyone please pipe in!//Forgive my bad spelling and brevity, Its awfully late at night....*Falls asleep at the keyboard*  Zzzz zz zzzzz.....//Oh and thanks gang!//Well Mr. DM sire, (Xaltotun) I leave it in your capable hands now!//I reedited this mess this morning. I love how I was mixing past tence with present tense. Oh and the many horrible misspellings... some may still remain....

Hello Layo Family!I've been thinking fondly of Layo lately and I want something with the logo on it. I was thinking of a couple of coffee mugs, but I can't get to the shop! Is there anyway that I can get a couple?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Area(s) that need updates?
« on: October 27, 2013, 04:43:06 pm »
Hello players of Layonara. I have a few questions for you today. I am on the Layo project/content team and I am presenting these questions to the player base with the hopes of finding areas in need of changes for various reasons. With that said... please lets not get into asking for Mithril placed in the Red Light Caves, or Emeralds outside Hlint. :) I also request that we don't get into a discussion / arguing of other peoples ideas if we can help it. Also to be clear we may or may not implement changes folks request. We have to consider a great number of things with each change proposed to ensure balance and all that stuff you know! :) Question 1: What places don't you go to with any or all of your characters that you would like to? Why?Question 2: What areas would you like to see changes made to? Some examples of "changes". Different creature spawns in an area(s), relocated creature spawns, added CNR, moved CNR, quest series related changes to area(s), changes to the look, feel, sounds of areas that never made sense to you... or the area(s) you feel needs a fresh(er) look. Or other changes you'd like to see made & why please. Thanks for you timeG-452

It has been a couple of years. Glad to see Layo is still around. I had some really good times here. Have downloaded the game again and have jumped in with Stygian to get re-acquainted. Thanks for the warm welcome back from those I saw in-game today. :-) Hope to see some more of you running around.-Ravemore, aka Stygian Achnuman

Guilds and Councils / Attention: Guilds and Organizations
« on: January 28, 2013, 04:17:25 pm »
Want to create an icon for your organization to be displayed as a badge for members under their profile?

The icon must be 32x32px and preferably having a black background unless the entire image takes up the 32x32 in which case the background is irrelevant. Please reply and attach the image in this thread.

Here's an example shot of some of my "badges" on the new system.

Also please note you no longer need to apply for membership to specific deity based forums or the druid one. The system will automatically know you have a character who follows that deity (provided your deity is correctly entered upon creation or a GM has set your deity).

Rumour Has It / The End of the Curse
« on: October 13, 2012, 08:39:29 pm »
A huge crater now sits in the foothills to the south of Mount Norand.  Those that were still alive in the area said that the explosion rocked the ground below them sending out aftershocks for some time.  And yet, as the shocks subsided, those that had been suffering and dying from the Destroyer's Curse finally felt relief.

As weeks pass without any new incidents, Boyer's borders finally begin to reopen, at first tentatively, and then almost desperately as they try to regain trade in spite of the horrible famines still going on around the world.

As people return to their respective faiths, they are offered commendations and acknowledgments for their exceptional bravery and steadfastness in their victory over the Destroyer's Curse.

Many towns, including Stone, Bydell Castle, Spellgard, and Bloody Gate have commissioned stone plaques to be carved with the names of those who served on this quest.  And many songs are now being sung through the halls of the Breath of the Muse.

Rumour Has It / Lost cat
« on: March 12, 2012, 05:01:37 pm »
*A note is posted around the various inns and crafting halls*

While out collecting some lichens on Krashin, Ygraine of the Ursus Clan came across a family of cats who were starving. She took them under her protection and led them to a safer place, but lost one of the cats along the way.

A reward is offered to anyone who can find and recover this lost cat.

// Since you can't interact with the npc cat, it has been given a name. Post the name here first to get a reward for finding the poor animal.

Rumour Has It / Lost in Krashin
« on: March 04, 2012, 04:55:31 pm »
*A note is posted  on the various noticeboards*

Ygraine Ursus was herding a small group of large cats to a safe haven but one has become lost somewhere in Krashin on the way out. Aa reward is offered to anyone who can safely recover the lost cat for her.

//The lost creature was created from a quest scroll and will be destroyed on the next server reset. The reward will be given to the first person/group who finds the cat and brings back it's name to Ygraine (post the name of the cat here as I don't think you can interact with the npc animal). The area is around level 8 (I think) so please don't use a vastly higher character to find it.

Good hunting.

General Discussion / orth checking in.
« on: February 02, 2012, 12:14:20 am »
Hello friends, old and new. It's been a while since I've been able to sit down and take a breath but I promised myself I would take the time to catch up on what I've been up to and some of the things that have to be done on the technical end over the coming month.

To start, I wanted to say that Layonara is with my heart every day. The friends I made and the moments I shared in its fantasy setting will be cherished moments I'll hold through my whole life with no regret. The past year I've been at a distance, occasionally trying to force my way back into the magic that I know makes me feel like only roleplaying can make me feel. It's been there for short whiles but real world priorities get in the way and days away become weeks and then months. I'm not going to try to explain nor am I sure I even know why, it just happens.

Life's been pretty good. I've become a bit of a sports nut, I even bought season tickets to the Blue Jays for this summer. Nothing new on the love side of things, though a kiss stolen here and there. Work has had me with a lot less time than I was afforded a few years ago but I remain physically and mentally very healthy.

As with playing, my desire for working on the MMO has had to be forced and again other worldly concerns leave me getting side tracked then ultimately not having the fortitude to jump back into the development. I am making progress in a core area though and when I can catch a breath and bare down for the final touches I'll be eager to move on to the areas that others have continued to bear down upon.

Over the coming month there's going to be a few headaches from the technical end. One of our servers is old and has to be updated, this means I have to make a decision to either stay with our existing server setups or consider moving all of our servers to a cloud based setup. I've not made that decision yet and it's a pretty complicated one as Dorganath would be able to attest to as we discussed it on IRC. Once I make that decision I will get a better idea of downtime for all our servers, web, irc, nwn etc.

I touched on the core area I'm working on with the MMO and that's focused on the web end of things. Using the versatility and module rich Drupal CMS I'm developing both a front end to a new updated community site and a back end to the MMO database structure. This could mean some heavy work needed on LORE and perhaps *cringe* if I'm really feeling adventurous, I would transfer the entire forum to drupal's forum. Alternatively there are modules that allow both vBulletin and Drupal work side by side. I wonder, do any of you have Drupal experience?

So I guess that's kind of it for my update. I'll be informing you via the Important World Announcements forum about server downtimes as soon as I can possibly know and with as advanced notice as possible. I apologize in advance if this gets in the way of some scheduled quests.

My best,
James

Just for Fun / Happy Australia Day!!!
« on: January 26, 2012, 12:00:03 am »
YOU KNOW YOU'RE AUSTRALIAN IF:
 * You believe that stubbies can be either drunk or worn.
 * You're liable to burst out laughing whenever you hear of Americans "rooting" for something.
 * You pronounce Melbourne as 'Mel-bin'.
 * You believe the 'L' in the word 'Australia' is optional.
 * You can translate: 'Dazza and Shazza played Acca Dacca on the way to Maccas.'
 * You believe it makes perfect sense for a nation to decorate its highways with large fibreglass bananas, prawns and sheep.
 * You think 'Woolloomooloo' is a perfectly reasonable name for a place.
 * You're secretly proud of our killer wildlife.
 * You believe it makes sense for a country to have a $1 coin that's twice as big as its $2 coin.
 * You understand that 'Wagga Wagga' can be abbreviated to 'Wagga' but 'Woy Woy' can't be called 'Woy'.
 * You believe that cooked-down axle grease makes a good breakfast spread. You've also squeezed it through Vita Wheats to make little Vegemite worms.
 * You believe all famous Kiwis are actually Australian, until they stuff up, at which point they again become Kiwis.
 * Beetroot with your Hamburger... Of course.
 * You know that certain words must, by law, be shouted out during any rendition of the Angels' song 'Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again' And "Living next door to Alice".
 * You believe that the confectionery known as the Wagon Wheel has become smaller with every passing year.
 * You believe that the more you shorten someone's name the more you like them.
 * Whatever your linguistic skills, you find yourself able to order takeaway fluently in every Asian language.
 * You understand that 'excuse me' can sound rude, While 'scuse me' is always polite.
 * You know what it's like to swallow a fly, on occasion via your nose.
 * You know it's not summer until the steering wheel is too hot to handle and a seat belt buckle becomes a pretty good branding iron.
 * Your biggest family argument over the summer concerned the rules for beach cricket.
 * You shake your head in horror when companies try to market what they call 'Anzac cookies'.
 * You still think of Kylie as 'that girl off Neighbours'.
 * When working on a bar, you understand male customers will feel the need to offer an excuse whenever they order low-alcohol beer.
 * You know how to abbreviate every word, all of which usually end in -o: arvo, combo, garbo, kero, metho, milko, muso, rego, servo, smoko, speedo, righto, goodo etc.
 * You know that there is a universal place called "woop woop" located in the middle of nowhere...no matter where you actually are.
 * You know that none of us actually drink Fosters beer, because it tastes like . But we let the world think we do. Because we can.
 * You have, at some time in your life, slept with Aeroguard on in the summer. Maybe even as perfume.
 * You've only ever used the words - tops, ripper, sick, mad, rad, sweet - to mean good. And then you place 'bloody' in front of it when you REALLY mean it.
 * You know that the barbecue is a political arena; the person holding the tongs is always the boss and usually a man. And the women make the Salad.
 * You say 'no worries' quite often, whether you realise it or not.
 * You understand what no wucking furries means.
 * You've drank your tea/coffee/milo through a Tim Tam.
 * You own a Bond's chesty. In several different colours.
 * You know that roo meat tastes pretty good, But not as good as barra. Or a meat pie.
 * You know that some people pronounce Australia like "Straya" and that's ok.
 * And you will forward this list to other Australians, here and overseas, realising that only they will understand!!!
Have a ripper Australia Day everyone :)

Ask A Gamemaster / Polling GM Interest for CDQ
« on: October 19, 2011, 11:57:02 pm »
I'm curious if there are any GMs interested in running CDQs for practicing Aragenites. These would be mainly information gathering quests focused on events and local culture. My interest comes from wanting to advance William Walker within Aragen's ranks. He's not yet level 8, and he likely won't be anytime soon, but I just wanted to throw some ideas out there.

I also thought it might be fun to have an open CDQ event to which other people are invited. This way what my Aragenite records would be dependent upon players' actions.

Interested in any thoughts/comments/etc.

Ask A Gamemaster / Branderback Questions
« on: October 18, 2011, 01:51:49 pm »
Hello!

Looking for everyone's opinions here, so post if you have thoughts!

I just started playing a worshipper of Branderback and my first evil character and am having a few issues on how to deal with RPing an evil character, so your thoughts would be appreciated so I can ensure I am playing him within what is intended, especially since he's a cleric!

Being as Branderback's main goals are greed...

1. Would my character travel with a group that had enemy aligned folks in it, such as a paladin of Rofie, if he knew he would profit from the trip?

My initial thoughts:
...gotta have folks in the frontlines to die for you so you can escape unharmed...

2. Would he heal his deities enemies if he knew it would serve to further his goals of wealth and greed?

My initial thoughts:
...got to keep the paladin upright til we hit the treasure, then on the way out if he falls he falls...

A general question on Branderback...

Is he considered one of the evil deities of Layo and thus the laws stating that he can be arrested and punished for his beliefs true? I just was unsure if Branderback fell in the same category as Corath in world views... which of course would change some of my initial reactions to the questions I posed above I suppose.

My Thanks,
Merlin34
