Just for Fun / Re: Real-Life Alignment
« on: December 09, 2006, 04:16:31 am »
I'd always hoped I was one of the 'good' alignments but in all truth I'm generally LN :(

Of course druids should be able to turn into nature type shapes.  I don't think they need to be powerful as they already have the Animal and Elemental shapes, so really they should be shapes that can be used for RP reasons.

I always liked the idea that a druid should be able to turn into a tree, maybe giving the ability to be not designated as hostile by any creature but with the downside of not being able to move or perform any action except reverting back to their normal form.  Of course this may not be possible so if not then a treant would be nice, all the other shapes could be different animals or plants perhaps.

Drow and other races which originate in the underdark should be able to change to underdark type critters...but less powerful of course :)

General Discussion / Re: question for those who have NWN 2
« on: November 27, 2006, 10:49:31 am »
Its funny.... I only installed NWN 2 a couple of weeks ago and I didn't like it at first but now I'm finding I'm really getting to like it now :)

One of the things that I really really like is that inspite of its improved graphics etc, it's never crashed on me.  In fact I have to say that it seems a lot more stable on my system than NWN 1 is, which does and always has, crashed relatively often.

44
Yeah brought this up a year or so ago...maybe longer, I know it isn't a priority but it always seemed strange to me that a druid would choose to shapechange into a golem :)

Would be nice if you could have a variety of natural forms to choose from instead.  Of course with all the changes coming up it might be a while before anyone can look at this.

45
No I'm sure that most people who've been to the area realise that any 'serious plan' to clean that area is doomed to failure, without at least a bunch of epic's going along to help.  Therefore I guessed, and I suspect most others did too that this is more of an RP event or events.  Which is great :)

So count me in...Bil will be right behind you!

Bil be happy to help yes he be...Bil happy to weild mighty goblin magic against dead walkers yes he is.

Anyway my funniest moment is anything involving Maple or Earl but I haven't seen either of them for a month now...:(  Where do people go anyway?

The world of Layonara has many cracks and hidden openings...sometimes adventurers slip and fall into these cracks and are never seen again. Somewhere under the world there is a vast pit were everything eventually ends up...filled with lost adventurers trying to get home :)

Its been several months since Leanther closed the races and only half-elves and half-orcs have reopened with no kind of timeline for reopenings.

Timelines...well I can't say for sure that I know when the subraces will re-open obviously, but if you look at the following post:

http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=30619&posts=46&start=1

Take particular notice of point 15 first of all, and then look at points 2 & 3.  Its true that this isn't a timeline as such but it does give an indication I believe of when the subraces may be open...of course I may be wrong :)

Quests Ideas and Discussion / Re: Dragon of Mystery - Posponed
« on: November 14, 2006, 01:29:25 pm »
Ahh this is getting repetitive...but sorry again.  I was in getting discharged from hospital on Sunday morning.  Unfortunately when I'd finished the antibiotics after getting the teeth pulled,  the pain came back again along with the abscess.  It appears that I had an area of infection within the bone of my jaw which had to be removed, *sighs* along with another two teeth.  So now I'm just on two types of antibiotics and a feeling that I've just been punched in the jaw, but at least most of the pain is now gone.

I should have posted to let everyone know, but well with the pain and the fact that I was high on Tylex again, I didn't.  So I'm sorry for that.  Anyway the quest will definitely definitely happen this weekend.

I'm really very sorry everyone...I've got to pospone this again.

Last weekend I had a few twinges of pain in two of my teeth and over the week both of these developed into severe toothache radiating over the right hand side of my face, whcih is why I've not been online all week. Because of the total collapse of NHS dental services in this country its taken me a week to actually be seen by a dentist, even as an emergancy.  I managed to eventually get to see one late yestoday afternoon.  Apparently both of these teeth have abcessed and he won't extract them until I've had a few days antibiotics inside me, so at the moment I'm on a lot of painkillers...one of which is Tylex which has sent me a bit woppy.  Its taken me 15 minutws or so just to write this quick note.

I,m on call next weekend so it may be a bit dodgy running it then as I might have to leave halfway through the quest, but I can run it the week after.  I'll sort it out though when I can think better.

Again sorry about this.

Though epic traps can do a good 200 points of damage. I've never seen epic level wizards in action, but I doubt they can do that much with a single spell.

That is very true but there's no way that a rogue will be able to use epic traps regularly until they're level 20+ anyway, unless they are rogue/clerics with the trickery domain.  But not only that....what would you prefer?

An epic trap that causes 200 points of damage but has to be crafted or bought and then placed in an area where it may or may not actually be triggered  when something goes over it.

Or a targetable mass death spell that does not have to be crafted or bought and can be used several times in a row (This is definitely possible with the right equipment worn).  A spell that even if it fails has other effects as well as damage.  A spell that even if you've just cast several of them and have run out, can be replenished again within 10 RL minutes.

You can see straight away that a wizard has all the advantages over a rogue, even if said rogue did spam the area with epic traps.  But even so spamming an area with traps requires time spent crafting and then placing them and then disarming all the ones which never went off.   To be honest I think that the best way to go concerning traps is to;

1.  Make trap crafting easier...using materials that a rogue can gather.
2.  Limit the number of traps that can be set within an area or period of time.
3.  Allow the cleanup script to gobble up armed traps...this can be RP'd as misfires or defective traps.
4.  Increasing the weight of traps might also dissuade rogues from carrying  too many as well.
5.  Possibly having to use a trap crafting kit to actually craft traps.  This kit would be able to break in the same way as other crafting kits (ie: Sewing Kit).  Of course no reqular merchant is going to sell these, so it'd have to be someone 'shady in nature'.  It may also be craftable itself but if so then it should be created from materials a rogue could gather himself.

Roleplaying / Re: okay now what?
« on: October 18, 2006, 08:32:19 am »
One of my characters is like this...Narnulubat my half orc druid is generally offensive, rude, bigoted and makes it plain that he dislikes all people equally.  The best advice I can give you is to tell the person you're about to RP with (via a tell), what your character is like and that nothing he says should be taken personally.  If you're in a group and a bystander seems to be taking offence at whats happening...send a tell.

I've found that some players especially new ones, often take what is said to heart and talking with them via tell's just lets them know that its just part of the game.  Of course if the players present know your character then theirs no problem whatsoever :)

As for being able to successfully party with a group?....Well its hard to be a party member when in the first five minutes of joining a group, you've managed to offend every single PC.   All I can say is that this is the price of playing such a character :)

56
Yeah...I said it would be hard to abuse them if the amount that could be set at anyone time could be limited.  Mind you imagine the scene above in Layonara;

Non epic characters..that would be a probable maximum of deadly traps.  Even 3 or four going off in close succession would probably not damage one of Layo's dragons significantly.

Don't forget as well, when a rogue lays a trap successfully they come out of hiding so anything within visual range would be on them straight away.  I actually don't think that traps in Layo are actually any more damaging than wizards spells of the same level and a wizard doesn't have to craft his spells and then sneak around setting them up either.

57
I actually like the suggestion were more complex traps require less complex ones in their manufacture.  It does seem to have a logic to it.  However I just want to note that when I used to play Buppi she did use a lot of traps, usually in quests, but even when she used more than one at a time she never actually managed to kill a monster with them.

You've got to realise that a pure rogue is a fairly weak character by his/herself.  Buppi is nearly level 15 and going down the red light mines alone will kill her.  My druid could manage it easily at level 4.  Yes a rogue has a great sneak attack but they get one chance at that, after which they are at a great disadvantage.

When you consider a wizard at the same level as Buppi can easily wipe out a spawn of creatures, if she attempted anything like that she would usually die.  Traps are a way to balance this to some degree and if the amount of traps that could be set at one time where restricted, then it would be hard to abuse them.

Right now its worthless. When are you trying to open a door or set a trap in combat? Love the idea, though I haven't had time to try the module.

Oh Buppi has...In fact the reason she originally took it was because of a quest were most of the party died and she couldn't unlock a door because of all the combat :P
