Introduce Yourself / Years, yea years
« on: August 27, 2008, 06:25:43 pm »
It's me Kethryc, Devinion, Elinmire(that old mage with the pixie Familiar, long story), And a Roferian Cleric who I better read up on before I dust off, and then the theif...I can't remember them all, Elinmire was my fav, I think, though Devinion is my original.

Anyway, Hey everyone!  I sure have missed you.  I shot an email to Leanthar the other day congradulating him on the continuance of the best online gaming community in the world and he said I should come on back...I didn't think I had my NWN disks. I moved across the country from Utah to Erie, PA to go to med school.  Now I have 2.5 kids and 2nd year in med school.  I think I'm crazy for wanting to come back, but I sure miss good RPG you know, it's a like a bad itch that wont go away.

Anyway!  I'm glad to see so many old faces still around, and hope to get around to playing more often. It wont be much, but it will be more than none!!

Seeya in game, as soon as I download the urber sized layopak...man has Leanthar been working his dev team hard!

General Discussion / I'll be around
« on: August 10, 2005, 11:44:00 am »
Today, as I was working on the last of one of my summer classes, and with a week coming up off next week, I was talking to Ed, who happened by my IM.  AS he chatted my love and longing for Layo welled up and I had an itching to install the NWN disks I had previously taken offso I could focus on school and Family.  It's been really busy, I'm starting my Masters, full time and working full time.

Well, thank goodness for high speed internet, for in the interum of our discussion I was up and running and totally updated.  gotta love that cable modem.

I'm not ON ON, like I used to be for hours on end, but there's a possibility a quest or two may see Elinmire or Rofwyn.  Anyway, I miss you gang, and for those of you how have no idea who I am.... you will :)

*It's all part of my plan of World Domination*

General Discussion / Stepping down
« on: May 03, 2005, 09:14:00 pm »
Life is sometimes too full of reality to be able to do the things worthwhile, like be a part of the best RP gaming community in the world.  I hope you all feel fortunate and committed to the fantastic group that plays here.  Even more to mention the snap-bang job Leathar has to do so that we have it.  How fantastic it is for me to have been a part of it for a short time.

I am stepping down as a part time Quest GM so that I can pay more attention to life for a time.  I have just been accepted to grad school I hope to start this summer, my beautiful little girl needs my attention and I have to give me all to a house and yard this summer I have to pay attention to.

I will not be leaving, but I have to also give up my cable modem for now and that severaly limits my playing time and ability.  Dialup is a drag.  I will still try to show up and see what I can do, as Elinmire is working towards magical cooperation.

I wish you all the best.  I just can't commit anmore.  After I moved a quest 3 times, I knew it was over, I've just been in denial.  I want everyone to know how fantastic the GM team is.  Leanthar and the Lead GMs and the cast of Quest GMs, they do a great job.  This is a fantastic place to play that needs your financial and imaginatory support.

I'll still be a little around.  I hope,

I wish you all the best,

David, Kethryc, etc....

Development Journals and Discussion / Elinmire's Notes
« on: April 09, 2005, 07:29:00 pm »
It is dark outside and late in the evening.  The sun had gone down hours ago, and the white bearded wizard was busy at his desk scribbling notes furiously.  On the mantle of the fireplace nearby, a pixie is snoring.  A bottle of Willow Wisp Ale opened, and a thimble in her hand.  She cuddles in a comfortable scarf and clutches her thimble.

The wizard--an archmagus due to his age, knowledge and teaching experience--stops writing and cleans his quill and rubs his eyes.  He looks over the scroll in front of him.  It is the scribing of the spell "Wall of Fire".  He made some notes on the bottom for the mage it was destined to teach.

Due to the stasis of the wall, it must be used wisely.  Either to lure enemies across or as a barrier from being followed.  Its power increases in relation to the mage's power.  Be careful and warn your companions

He blows off the dust of the gems on the scroll and empties the last of the evocation ink he used.  He nods, job completed, blows out a candle and goes to bed--knees creaking.

Wild Surge Inn / Join an Arcane alliance

To all those wielding the power of the arcane, wizard and sorcerer alike.  I would invite you to be a part of an organization.  One to which we can bring in many of the secrets of  magic, share and teach one another.

I asked for those interested, and many were, but none came due to many conflicts.  If you are interested in joining such an organization.  I will be entertaining your letter by familiar(Pm on the forum), so I may hear from you each individually and can start to organize.

Wild Surge Inn / Wizard's Duel--Arcane casters welcome
« on: March 08, 2005, 07:43:00 pm »
My dear wizards, arcane wielders, and sorcerers alike.

Today, as I Dashiva and I were slinging spells at one another, I came upon an epifany.  I, an academic at heart, and now a well known scriber of spells, have decided to start an organization of like minded wizards, known as the Arcane Duelers.  We will meet to discuss, trade, purchase and sell spells to one another.  More importantly we will be seeking an opportunity to teach the young wizard apprentices the ways of the world.
To commence this organization, I am calling for all interested parties to join me in a dueling contest.  This contest will test the mettle of like powered wizards in an ability contest of the greatest magnitude.  It will test abilities in counterspelling, intellect, wisdom of spell use, and arcane power.  I will be considering rules, and I wish to have those interested to submit to me their suggestions on rules, which I will be putting together and all with sign to.  These will not be duels to the death, rather, to incapacitation and/or withdrawal of one or both parties.  Some suggested rules would be:
1)no items other than those warn
2)spells cast from memory
3)a limit to the healing opportunities/items, such as moderate healing potions limited to two per duel
4)a two round beginning where each wizard is allowed two preperatory protection spells.
5)Summons may or may not be allowed

Things such as this nature.  The intent of the Arcane Duelers is to disseminate skill, knowledge, and the wizarding world.

Please send me a note(post here)for all interested parties.   Wizards or Sorcerers or even those with mixed skills of other professions are welcome.  In a few days a location will be selected to meet, more than likely my abode in Krandor, where I can set aside space for Dueling and meeting.

Best reguards,

Elinmire Thel'dinarae

Development Journals and Discussion / Elinmire and Lae Ann
« on: November 15, 2004, 09:06:00 am »
Elinmire, Associate Professor of Magic’s, was wondering one day through an area of the Broken Forrest when he came upon a group of brownies who were ganging up on a small pixie.  Accepting the theories of Darwin the Dwarf socialist that to the fittest go the spoils....or was it the victor goes the nurture?  Anyway, it was just something that happens naturally in the order of the forest, when he noticed the fervor the little pixie was fighting with against 5 brownies.  The brownies were laughing and teasing her as she was fighting valiantly with a small dagger and all her might.
What happen next was totally unexpected, inside of Elinmire, something popped.  Something that bad been held back for a long time.  Elinmire had never accepted a familiar as his own.  He scorned such things as weakness in other mages, and since he chose academics rather than adventuring he had no need for one.  Little did he know that fate was about to throw him for a loop.  He didn't know it at the time, but he was about to enter the world of adventuring, whether he liked it or not.
Invisible, Elinmire, observed this and couldn't help but be smitten by the pixie's beauty.  He reached out his hand and cast 2 magic missiles, and dropped two of the brownies.  Next, as they turned to see their secondary attacker, two more rushed Elinmire and he vaporized them with a lightning bolt.  The last, seeing he was outmatched, flew away as fast as he could.
Elinmire quickly moved to the side of the pixie, now lying on the ground, its life fading with its light.  He carefully lifted the pixie into his hands and then he felt a surge of energy between him and the small creature.  “Peculiar,” he said to himself. He walked home to his study in Pranzis, holding the little pixie with one hand and covering her with the other.  He mused over the experience he saw.  He had never heard of Fey fighting so valiantly, as they normally flee and disappear.
What was different about this one little creature?
In his study, he found a pillow fluffed with goose down, and laid her gingerly on it.  He then turned his attention to his bookshelf upon which he found a book titled: “Fey and things.”
He found a small thimble in a drawer of odds and ends, and conjured up some food with a wave of his hand and set them near the pixie. He filled the thimble with water and then took a draught from his hip flask of “Wizard’s Wheat” and set it on the desk nearby.
He sat in his chair, turned to the right and began to absorb the book for probably the 3rd time in his life.  He had read all his books countless times, and had even marked corrections in read ink which he updated in his own personal errata’s he kept in the back of each volume.
After an hour or so of absorption as well as a private argument about the facts in the book about Elves and their relation to fairies, he heard a light crash and a burp.  Normally such singular sound would not have roused him from study, but since the source originated form his desk, he turned slowly to see what was happening.
The first thing he noticed as he turned to his left was his hip flask lying on its side, empty. “Strange, I know it was at least a quarter full a moment ago,” he said.  He continued to turn and noticed the small plate of food was empty, and then, sitting up and staring at him (with a slight drunken waver) was the small pixie.  Petite, smiling sheepishly and still armed, but not threatening, the little pixie looked back at the tall bearded wizard sitting before her.
“Nice draft...*burp* but I like Will-o-whisky” she smiled then promptly fell back into the pillow and fell asleep.

The next morning, the pixie still lay sleeping on the pillow soundly.  Elinmire conjectured that she must have drunken most of her weight in ale last night, not to mention the food.  He had left a window open and she had not taken advantage of it yet.
He sat down to resume his studies at his desk where he had left off when he was suddenly interrupted.
“So who are you?” a little voice asked.
“Elinmire Thel’dinarae, Arch magus here in Pranzis. And you are?” Elinmire said to the pixie.
“Lae Ann, battle pixie to the GreenLitus Pixie Clan.”  Lae Ann return, but then she frowned, and started to cry.
Old wizards were not made to elicit comfort, nor do they look for it, but this wizard had taught countless youth, helped them through their rough spots, and lectured many more than he could count.  He frowned as well and looked closely at the pixie, “What’s the matter, little one?  You’re safe!”
Lae Ann wiped away her tears and looked up with a pouty face, “I am one of the last of my tribe; those creatures were part of a raid to scatter my sisters!  I don’t know what’s happened to them….and to make it all worst, I’m linked to YOU!”
Was a little taken back by the forcefulness of the last statement. “What do you speak of?  You can go back to the forest, you have no tie here.”
With that, Lae Ann “harrumphed” at him and flew, blazing out of the window.  For 10 seconds nothing happened, and Elinmire seems content that he’d rid himself of a pesky visitor, though he was pleased in her recovery.  It was the next ten seconds that proved startling and unexpected.
At approximately second number 20 after Lae Ann took off, a strong sense of someone reaching into his spleen to remove it while he sat there occurred.  Next he had a troubled moment of breathing and last, a huge headache.
At second number 40, Lae Ann came streaming back into the room.  She tumbled unceremoniously onto the pillow she had slept on, and laid there, holding her head, curled up in a ball.  Elinmire stared at her with a look of horror on his face.  His whole life, he had resisted any inkling of taking on a familiar. He was a scholar and a loner, except where his students came into play.  Now…now he didn’t know what to think or say. He just stared at the little pixie.
“That’s what I’m talking about, you old fart.”  She said.

And that’s how they met.

Poetic License / Devinion's Bardric Poetry and Song corner
« on: November 07, 2004, 07:36:00 pm »
Welcome to Devinion, the humble bard's, Bardic Song and poetry corner!!  I am glad to welcome you to listen to my poetry and song about my adventures.  Take a seat, relax, comments are welcome, and there will be more to come.

For my first piece I'd like to pay homage to one of the best fighters I've ever laid eyes on!
Frin Gues

A halfing and a sword

*clear through* *cough cough*

His blade is sharp and cracks like ice
   The short fighter Frin
Black and capped, no foe escaped.
   The fire from within

I watched him fell a hundred beasts
And lived to tell the tale
I saw him kneel upon his knees
When ‘last his friend grew pale

A fighter better no man saw
   In Hlint nor in Dre’gar
His blade is quicker than a word
And he’s traveled near and far

Now Frin, my friends, is ne’er afraid
To help a one in need
And Cold Tooth’s lust for flesh is real
   Upon the battlefield

All pay homage to a man
   Whose stature measures all
And watch as upon his blade we rely
   On this hero--not so tall
