Even sending out a small force will weaken the Fort - perhaps sufficiently that the walls will no longer hold back their forces trying to scale them on ladders.
I would agree that the General as a traget would be worth taking a risk. If we might learn the location of his command tent we could consider what options we have.
In order to get at him we could attack in one or two places to create a diversion. But how to get close enough to him... even then?

* After the fighting of the day is over Kobal sends messengers to the captains as well as Daniella to meet with him at the South Wall Gate, if possible. He then immediately goes there to get a view on the damage caused by Ractrafieroz.
Once those that will come have arrived Kobal starts a discussion. *

Oi can oversee wha'evar repair we decoide ter carry uht 'ere, bu' firs' we gotta decoide on wha' we do. Oi gots a few oideas... though none of 'em perfect.
One. We coul' collapse tha' arch above tha' gate ter fill tha' breach. We coul' use some well placed earthquakes an' detonations. It woul' damage tha' wall of course an' it woul' remove tha' protection fer our archers 'ere. However, tha' cultists will have ter charge uphill through tha' rubble ter git inter tha' Fort. Tha' will give us tha' hoigh groun' and an advantage.
Two. Iffen ye can bring in some of those goiants Oi been hearin' 'bout ye coul' ask 'em ter poile boulders inter tha' gate openin', effectively closin' it. Depending on tha' toipe of stone available we coul' atempt ter melt it in place, creatin' one block of stone tha' acts as a stopper. Tha' means, however, tha' dah gate be closed ferevar.
Three. We coul' troi ter build a gate wit' wha'evar materials we got 'ere. We only gots a couple of hours, so it wont be good. An' it wont hold tha' day, bu' give us some pertection at least.
Any odder oideas?

* A day after Daniel arrives at the Fort of Last Hope Kobal Bluntaxe arrives by a narrow mountain trail. With him he brings an ox - an old and scarred beast - laden with boxes and barrels.
Kobal seeks out his warriors already stationed at the Fort before announcing his arrival.
After a couple of hours he emerges with a polished armor and a freshly groomed beard from the camp of the Runic Anvil. He makes a round on the Fort grounds, greeting those he knows and dogding any boulders from above. Finally he seeks out the command room and formally announces his arrival. *

*nods* I am heading an engineering department here that does offshoring work on projects in the Scandinavian countries (ie. Northern European countries). Been here with my family for about 1 year now and have another 11 months to go.

Thanks all for your kind thoughts. I had a great day with surprises arranged by my lovely wife, great food, good company and ended up celebrating India winning the cricket world cup together with 1,200,000 other people.

* Kobal and the Runic Anvil warriors spend the day taking care of their wounded as well as their fallen.
On the next day their wagon train leaves Audiria carrying all dead Runic Anvil dwarves as well as the wounded dwarves not able to walk. The wagon train is guarded by 30 dwarves in good shape.
Kobal and the remainder of his warriors (approximately 500 beards) have exchanged their weapons and armor with work clothing and tools and begin the hard work of clearing out the rubble and rebuilding of the city. The dwarves start with the defences of the city - the outer walls and watch towers - in order to bring the city back in shape to fend for itself and resist raids from the desert giants in the area.
The dwarves begin the work as soon as the sun rises and toil the entire day until the sun has set. Kobal works alongside his warriors, but makes sure to oversee the work in its entirety and pass out instructions wherever necessary.
Kobal did not coordinate with the city leaders before starting the work - simply feeling that the work needed to be done. If they approach him he will apologize for not thinking of that beforehand. *

// My take on it is that we will look at what will benefit the armies the most. Gold is always handy to buy resources, while armor, weapons, bandages and food are also highly valued. Especially in order to equip militias lots and lots of equipment is required.
Therefore, some high value items (like an expensive belt or a unique tome) would not be more beneficial than a crate of healing potions, a stack of weapons or something along those lines.

Donations will be used to equip militias or even to improve the gear of the regular units of soldiers. Looking at the lists of the donated equipment it is clear that some items will be much better than the standard equipment worn and carried by soldiers of the Kingdoms involved in the war.
It is not possible for us to equip warriors with these exact items and see what impact it would have, but we will take these donations into consideration when determining the outcome of battles.
