My suggestion would be to linger in-game until the "death penalty" period is over, so you can rest and restore your proper stats.

Is there another character with same name?

No.

Was there another question? *smiles*

(Fun fact: There are over 30 characters with the word "night" in their names somewhere. )

Ask A Gamemaster / Yipe!Basically, if it's a
« on: April 22, 2017, 12:09:59 pm »

Yipe!

Basically, if it's a locked door that corresponds to player housing, what's beyond is off-limits. How do you know? If you try to open the door normally, you'll get a conversation. If you get that, don't break down the door, and don't go in without permission. The areas inside of these doors are also usually numbered, so if you go past such a door and the area name looks like 123 Leringard (or some other number + named location identifier), that's also player housing.

There are some exceptions to this, on a case-by-case basis, which is entirely up to the owners of those specific properties:

  1. We have some guild stores which operate somewhat on a trust model, where certain goods are left in publicly-accessible chests. There are also typically signs stating as much, so follow their rules and you won't have a problem. Typically, the public does not access these stores through a locked door, however, but I mention them because they are technically a player housing area.
  2. There are a few houses that people leave "unlocked" (though you still get the conversation when trying to open the door) for the purpose of making their housing portals available. This, again, is something set by the owner of the home, but it does not give any permission to anyone to loot the house or use it for any other purpose besides the portal.
  3. There are also a few instances where someone has purposefully set up the house to be at least partially accessible by anyone, and things like refreshments, food and basic supplies are left there for the taking in good faith.
  4. There are some player-run inns in-game which have a publicly-accessible area that can reached without using a locked door. These areas could have persistent storage chests and things within them and again posted rules/requests for their use (or not).

But when in doubt, err on the side of caution. There is a log on every storage container that tells who put something into a container or took something out of a container. This is visible in-game as well, so should someone notice something missing, the list of suspects can be rapidly narrowed. Stealing from players is, as you noted, a potentially bannable offense.

You can also ask a GM about a specific area (privately or publicly) by the area's name.

Adventuring areas are fair game, of course, whether they're behind a locked door or not.

« on: April 06, 2017, 09:47:51 pm »

It's been a long (much longer than intended) time in coming, but....

...We are giving our official support to this idea and the adjusted timeline as discussed.

I do not know if we will be able to mechanically represent this in-game in full (due to the linkage between game time and things like spell durations), but in an overall-passage-of-time sense, we definitely support and embrace this idea.

Many belated thanks for the idea. It's the kind of thing we've had planned for the next generation for quite a long time, so at least in that sense, it fits well.

Forum Discussion / This is definitely true. That
« on: April 06, 2017, 09:40:36 pm »

This is definitely true.

That said... The site was built and somewhat before touch-/mobile-compatibility was really a thing. Beyond the base site, there's a fair amount of customization done to the base site system. As such (unless there's some super-easy way to apply a more compatible skin/theme), there's not really a quick-and-easy way to make it more mobile-friendly. The shortest path to this would be to use some kind of Bootstrap-based template, but that is sadly not going to be plug-and-play.

Having attempted to plug Bootstrap (even just the bits related to menus) into a pre-existing, highly-customized site in my day job, I can say with some confidence that the results are not easy to predict.

Modernization of the site is on the roadmap, but we don't have a particular ETA on that, so for now everyone will just have to suffer through it for a while.

Ask A Gamemaster / The forums and the Web site
« on: March 13, 2017, 02:57:47 pm »

The forums and the Web site are on completely separate systems.

Something seems to be interfering with the loading of style pages from the web site (which is why all the funky formatting is happening). I think it probably needs a reset, and if I can' find my instructions on doing so, I'll bother  orth to give it a kick.

The game server is not currently experiencing any problems.

// [CHAT WINDOW TEXT] [Sat Mar 11 17:11:46] Listen Check:  20 + 6 = 26*

The stranger's attention is drawn to the odd little creature, though his expression reflects both recognition and some small surprise...something along the lines of "Well now...what are you doing here?"...though such a comment remains unspoken. He does not seem concerned in the least.

His expression shifts a little once he looks back to the magical workings to one of validation and some satisfaction. His head then tips to the side...then looks to the trap door before he stands and moves that direction a bit.

"Yes, please!" he calls upward. "If you could do something about the flames..."

Rumour Has It / The stranger remains crouched
« on: March 08, 2017, 11:33:25 pm »

The stranger remains crouched down, though rests back a bit in a posture of observance. He doesn't really look up at Armand, but he does speak directly to him.

"Well..." he begins. "This and the other are linked through here..." The stranger gestures at the anomaly in the room, something more distant in the direction of the lake and a portion of the magical construct in order, before pointing back to the portion he rearranged. "This part took from the other and brought it into this chamber. I deactivated that part, and left to its own this all would calm back down on its own...eventually. But, in the meantime, it causes me...problems...and I am impatient. This...."

He gestures again at the reformed portion of the magical construct. "This will help it all settle back down further, ridding this chamber of its excess magic and returning it to the void under the lake. Quite simply, I have no desire to contain this anomaly. I desire that the damage caused by this...experiment...be repaired and that Magic is restored to its proper state."

Absently, the stranger rubs his hands together as a thin defense against the cold.

« on: March 06, 2017, 11:00:16 pm »

When the stranger is done, he says where he is, plants one hand to the ground and keeps his head lowered and his eyes closed. For the next minute or so, he turns his focus to something else...his breathing. He tries to breathe slowly and deeply to ward off the nausea or at least to be able to function through it. Eventually, he lifts his head and blinks his eyes in some feeble attempt to clear them. He gazes around the chamber at the lingering oddities, finding surprise in none of them.

"Well..." he says to himself. "No time like the present..." And with that, he activates the new magical construct...

I see that Barristan is a multi-class Rogue/Cleric. Have you taken any cleric levels yet?

If so, we'll have to do a full rebuild to make sure the domains all come out right. If you've only taken Rogue levels, then there won't be any issue.

This is actually a forum bug. I'm guessing the site was never updated to account for that.

Also, moving this into the correct forum.

« on: January 30, 2017, 12:35:16 am »

The stranger watches and examines their efforts, or perhaps something very close to their efforts. His expression remains one of focus and evaluation, and he changes his position several times. He stays back and out of the way of the others working the containment ritual and his expression turns pensive as the surges wreak their usual havoc upon their surroundings.

When their ritual is complete, the stranger gives some focus to the results and responds in a somewhat approving, "Hm..." and a subtle nod.

In the next moment, he moves in close to the anomaly again and crouches down near where he made the minor adjustment just a few minutes ago. He alternates working for a few moments with moments spent in consideration, evaluation or calculation. During these, he sometimes mutters to himself, occasionally talking loud and clear enough for a few out-of-context words to be heard. Over the entire course, he removes and rebuilds an important section of the pattern, disconnecting from and reconnecting to (but not interfering with) the containment portion that Armand and Lia worked to re-establish, and he brings the necessary magic to bear upon the newly-established patterns...

« on: January 26, 2017, 11:21:35 pm »

"Waaaiiit.....!" says the stranger suddenly and with a bit of volume, holding up a hand from his crouched position. He maintains this pose for a few moments, and probably a few beyond when he might have everyone's attention. When he moves again, he pulls the salmon from his pockets sets them casually to either side of him, and then makes a brief and confident adjustment to part of the old deteriorating structure.
