Hall of Heroes and Heroines / The First and the Redeemer
« on: October 05, 2007, 08:45:24 pm »
And so it was that the great towers stood, mightier than they once had ever been and in a new land from which new people came.  Children...all children.  Old children, young children...and they remembered.  They remembered the sun.  They remembered the faith.  They remembered him.  And he was strong again.

The First was buried there by him.  By the Redeemer.  Peace...for both of them.  Within the great halls together in silence.  A beautiful silence.  I saw peace in him.  He would tell me little, but in his eyes...peace.

They came...hundreds...from the dark depression...back into the sun.  Back from war...back from ridicule...they came in hundreds...and soon thousands.  Brighter than the sun they shone in the light of a clear sky.  Brighter than the sun that day.  Gold...blue...and silver.  The people cheered.  They wept for the first time in so long. The stone was broken...the praise had destroyed it.  The veterans wept.  Their faces softened.  The praise they had not had in so long was again given.  Not since before the Bloodwar were they given such applause.  A praise they never expected, nor asked for.  Their silent duty, a testament to him...their unwavering faith...had finally been seen.

The long death had left and the sun rose.

And he was strong again.

Varka, perhaps you could post this in the "Hall of Heroes and Heroines".

It would have a lower probability of fading down...and down...and down the general forums into the sea of past threads.

Thanks for posting by the way :)

Thanks.  It seems to be up again.  For some reason my PPP status was down and the password went bad.  I don't understand it myself but spoke to the verizon guys who worked me through it.  It started when I attempted to upgrade my video drivers.

So for now it's up.  Now...let's hope it stays there!!!

And it happens once again.  If this continues I will stop spamming the forums with this thread.  But for now, consider this the "does shadowblade have internet" thread.  So for anyone that would like to know...as of this post...I don't :(

Honestly, if a few faithfull didn't falter, fall or convert now and again it'd be a really boring world and there isn't a single rule at creation that says that can't happen.  It just needs RP and if you can, document the process by keeping a character journal.

Fun Fact Time:

I've seen many Toranite characters come and go through the years.  Some came and stayed for a year or more.  Some were very vocal both in game and on the forums (OOC and IC).  Sadly, many of these characters (who have long left) were forgotten.  Some were fairly high level, but yet still forgotten.

Now...here's the fun part....

The majority of Toranite paladins that I've seen through out the years have fallen.  Not one or two.  Not three or four.  The majority...most....many...huge percentage.  I can't count more than two paladins in my own experience that have not fallen. Neither of these players play here anymore (or I haven't seen them in some time). Oh..wait...I can count another two who seldom play. But ya...still the majority have gotten in trouble.  The last year or so was less restricted than it had been in some time.  Less restricted means fewer paladins got in to trouble.

I was considering suggesting that myself Lynn. I think it's a good idea.

During the character creation process for any cleric, paladin, or otherwise, there should be some official binding agreement (more so than the current bio requirements).  Something rather simple like the statement above that will lead the player submitting this character to the conclusion that diety relationships must be important and that they will be enforced.  Just because you submit a LG paladin of Toran does not mean you get to be friendly and merry with all. (But then again, I'm so mean that I think Paladins should be a PrC with players starting out as fighters first) :x

I know it's tough to strike that balance between a fun game and a realistic RP setting.  But these rules enhance the setting to make the game more fun. I'm sure you know that as well as anyone.

Unfortunately, deity relationships just haven't been enforced and the result of which has led to characters seldom RPing these relationships other than maybe a quick comment here or a grumble there.  This has been going on for some time.  Many characters who were able to be a little lax with this have established would-be-forbidden relationships with other characters that unfortunately were allowed to continue and develop.  This makes it harder to all of the sudden turn on that deity enforcement switch.  For this I don't know what to tell you, but it has to be done. I can assure you that this recent crackdown isn't solely based on Rose and Nye.  At least I'm quite sure it's not, but rather on many many players in the past and present.  Sadly, most of these "deity offending" characters/players aren't even aware that they may be on thin ice.  The best advice to everyone that plays a cleric/paladin/etc... is to know your characters dogma and take that as priority number 1.  You wanted to play a paladin/cleric/champion here and you need to agree to the rules to play him/her.

You can still develop friendships both OOC and IC. Yes it will make who you party with more selective and yes that will mean that you won't be able to run around and adventure as much as you can.  But unfortunately that's the case and that's how it should be. There shouldn't be any dispute about that.  If this were not the case, then this server wouldn't be about RP. At least realistic RP.

Hey hey I've seen people have influence at levels 6-8 and get noticed! :P

More influence than some epics I bet!  It does depends on the character yah

So take heart you level 1's! You can be just as powerful as any level 40! :P

Others are pretty much rocketing up the charts anyway, so it might happen.

And they'll still have the influence and world power of a level 10 or 15 at best.

In most cases it's determined from RP.  You can ask however if the character walks around bearing the symbol of their god.  Sheilds are obvious.  Amulets will need to be determined through tells.  Who they summon if that's their thing.  In some rare but legitimate cases, another character will warn you of said character in question.  It's a factor of everything really.  But in general, there is seldom a giant pointer at this character saying "hey, this guy is evil".

However, once you determine that, you will need to make the tough RP decisions and in some cases that will hinder both your character progression and theirs.  But then, when you submitted your paladin/champion character, you essentially signed a contract to uphold and agree to that.

Development Journals and Discussion / The Search for Chanda

Clarissa,

I fear trust should not be so willingly given. However, do what you will. I know neither this "Steel" or this fellow Hardragh very well, but from the words of this "Steel" during our time of travel, I am inclined to question why he is so willing to talk and bargain now as most mercenaries do. Take what information you can with a grain of salt. Be wary!

Wisdom and age tell me that crookedness is in the air. But our options are limited. I do not mind the waste of 20,000 true, for even false information holds value. If not to lead us to these Corathanites, then to at least establish our allies. You may have had dealings with both characters, but do not blindly trust despite your virtuous nature and willingness to help. Be strong!

Report to the citadel at once following the time that you receive the information. Approach this cautiously and know that the Corathanites, while fools for their choice of faith, are not ignorant to our pursuit. Soon a bounty will be offered and publically so. I shall first wait to see what you find before I post such bounty. Take Rose and all trust worthy folk that are willing to go with you to meet this Hardragh and for the exchange of information. Beware a deal with vipers! The Corathanites will ever use the shadow to deal fatal blows. Do not do this alone. They may ask that you do so, but have allies near within call even if they are not standing by your side.

My concern may be overestimated, but I have learned over time what such snakes are capable of and willing to do. Especially to those of our order.

I am happy to hear of Rodlim's willingness. I know of his capableness as a tracker and I am glad to see his service. For one such as him, I would ask that he scout in Arnax and the nearby areas. Do not tell anyone of this. Let only myself, Rose, and Rodlim know. I will take care of speaking to Ortheus. I dislike this secrecy, but those whom would see our downfall are ever watchful. For the safety of Rodlim and for our best chance of success at capturing Chanda and her accomplice, I would ask such.
