@akata

I see your points, but no where in D&D or Layo is an item with Regeneration ever healed aging cells. Aging cells are not the same as being wounded. By your rational, you wouldn't even grow hair while wearing a regen item, because it would revert your hair cells back to their original state when the item was first put on. The growing of a hair cell, is in fact the aging of that cell as it multiplies.

In fact, your last statement actually makes more sense. The growing and splitting of cells would be excellerated, causing your hair to grow at an increased rate and your cells to replicate over and over to the point that you would never stop growing.

I don't want to break down an entire cell biology course here, it would bring up great debates between fantasy items of regen vs the natural aging process!! Would be fun, but pointless. My point is, if a regen item prevented the aging process, it would also prevent the growing of any cell, preventing any change in it, which would prevent the growing of a person body, hair ect. Infact, it would by that rational prevent the regeneration of a limb, because a cell couldn't grow and multiple into other cells and the die.

Actually that is precisely what regeneration does.
Regeneration from items are always active (as long as the item is on) its not waiting for cut, but it is constantly pumping healing energy into the characters body regardless of wounds.

However, I believe all items, even a ring, have to be activated to work. Simple commands or even conditions can activate them, such as being wounded, a ring of regeneration would then activate.

In the D&D setting, which layo could change that however they deem, a regeneration ring only heals when damaged. A ring of Regen is not an everlasting, never aging, never dying.

Updated LORE: Greater Sanctuary

and better means it's harder to dispel (e.g. Invisibility Purge doesn't work against it).

Well not being able to dispell it would make it better...*grins* Thanks Ed.

And what does better invisibility mean? Like you have no scent, do not leave tracks? How can you be "better invisibility"? I mean the only bad things about being invisible are...you still leave tracks, you can still be smelt, no one can see you (hehe), people can see you with see invis/true sight...

So in order to be a "better invisibility", which of the above differ?

Sorry Ed, I try to leave you alone!

Please post any questions on the new cosmology here. I will make this a running thread and update questions/answers.

3) How does Greater Sanctuary work now, as in D&D you walk the ethereal plane?

This is one of the things the new cosmology and D&D differ greatly as there is no ethereal plane. You can consider it as some kind of better invisibility, you not walking another frequency for example.

Sorry to disagree with you on this one ;) but the peaks got tweaked due to a huge multi week multi GM quest event.

But as to fighters soloing the peaks, well as I was a GM during the hey day of the peaks I will say that they were heavily abused by a number of players.

I know about the DM events that "changed" the peaks, which also solved the problems with which you are talking about when you were a DM. I just fired an employee because she broke the rules, but the truth is I was going to fire her for another reason within the week.

I used one avenue to get to the same ending result that I desired, without having to let everyone know the other, real reason.

Sorry for the conspiracy theory! hehe

@dorg I took the word on the streets because it came from the people making the changes.

What stinks is that fighters had the dead magic area near thunder peaks, and then because a fighter could do what a caster could...seemed things changed. Maybe there was another reason, but the word on the street was that the change came because fighters were soloing the area.

In my opnion this is not a low magic world by any means.

In a world where a mage has a choice of if they want to go off on their own, or with a big group, either way, they will be able to find something they can kill, so if a caster really wants to (not necessarily a mage, most casters though) they can achieve level 30, with little problems going out on their own soloing.

A fighter, could not get to 30 in the same amount of time, no way, it's impossible, theres no instant death magic for fighters, and fighters cannot travel without a party, due to having to get involved up close and taking damage, they need magic for the weapons to do much, and a healer usually, among other spells etc.
After epic levels, and where fighters could once go, with or without a group, has completely been changed, so that casters must be taken along too.

A level 30 fighter....who has seen a level 30 fighter go solo for exp recently? Well I can find one spot to get 64 exp a kill. But spending 20mins going through an area for about 1200 exp, does not really motivate me at all.
Not to mention theres still a risk of dying for that measly amount.

I guess what I'm basically saying is, a caster can get to level 30 on their own, no way a fighter could do that anymore. And once at those levels, good luck taking your fighter off to solo, anywhere.

As Jrizz stated, low magic item world, but far off from being a low magic world - give us something to dig our swords + axes into. please.

"Usually they wear an obsidian necklace with two red eye-shaped rubies hanging from it."

Aren't rubies incredibly hard to get and expensive?  I suppose not so much in dark elf cities.  New players of her clerics however would be hard pressed to RP that there are rubies in their holy symbols.  Otherwise every other dark elf in their group would slaughter them for it and make like, 60,000 true in the tradehall.  Maybe they could have any red gem instead?  If the dark elf priestesses in the rift had rubies in their holy symbols, for example, Bjorn would be a very very rich dwarf indeed after having slaughtered upwards a few hundred of them.  I wouldn't even worry about chipping them, the dust alone would be a fortune!

Maybe add a line "Or if rubies are not available, Opals can suffice for initiates."  Lord knows there's a lot of opals that have been endlessly pawned out there. ;)

I have always looked at this based on the power/level/strength of the PC. A young priestess would have small shards of rubies to represent the two full sized rubies. Two small ruby shards are not that expensive and wouldn't be hard to find. This is because she is not that powerful/rich and can't afford two full sized rubies.

It would be the priestess goal over time to acquire the larger rubies to better represent her deity. Over time she might have two hope diamond sized rubies blinging from her neck!

Ah thanks for the clarification. I thought he was talking of merchants buying  from the pc and selling back to other pcs.

If this was a possibility, lets say you have a reseller. He could hold a max of 200 items, and from those 200 items, no same item could be held more than two times, unless the 200 cap has not been reach. Gives the possibility of a wide variety of what he could sell back to other pcs. A server restart would simply wipe all items from the reseller and we start a new.

Hempstead, Vehl, Mariners hold, Leringard, Prantz, Arnax, Dalanthar, Miritrix, Hilm castle, could be the only place with such vendors.

just a thought beside tweaking the pawnshops. So the higher level drops could be sold at a very very reduce priced to those vendors who then could mark up the pric back to the original lens value.. or something like that.

Just what Gun said. Every PC had the ability to place a merchant and they remained if you were on line or not, meaning you could have tons of merchants causing insane lag.

Not IMO. We can't handle 40 people logged in with full inventories. I doubt we would be able to handle 400 NPC Merchants with just as much stuff on them as our PCs!
