Layonara Server / Project Team Applications open once again
« on: October 02, 2005, 03:41:00 pm »
Our project team needs to grow, and I know there are a few of you wanting to give a hand.

You can apply individually or if you have a partner you work well with, feel free to apply as a team.

While we will focus on people with strong NWN skills, we will look at others with strong interest. Sometimes a creative person who can lend some good ideas for story or areas are great additions.

These skills we are looking for include:

    * scripting
    * 2da editting
    * tlk editting
    * area building
    * content creation
    * art submissions
    * fleshing out history

We're looking for people who take initiative yet are not afraid to go back to the drawing board. Keeping a good log of the things they do is important too as is dependability and communication.

I hope many of you look forward to being part of the Project Team here and help build the community you enjoy.

Applications will be open until next Sunday night. Let me know in this thread if you are interested and why and what sort of things you wish to help with. If there is any reason you wish to keep your application private, then PM it to me. I'd also like to see an indication of the experience you have that you think would be an asset to the team. Any samples would be great too, and may even get incorporated into the world. You can email them to me at layonara@netgod.org.

Thanks for your interest!

Development Journals and Discussion / Diary of Amra Tanvia
« on: June 27, 2005, 10:23:00 am »
*This book looks neatly kept and is written in what looks like Halfling, though many of the symbols look a little off and the grammer has an old feel to it. There are several notes and drawings in the margins making reference to other volumes called her log.*

Implemented Ideas / Edible Honey
« on: June 27, 2005, 07:17:00 am »
Not really a bug per se, but I noticed for the first time this weekend that you can't eat the honey. I never had someone who wanted to, but Amra would sure like to eat a nice big dollop. Can we make the honey edible?

Trade and Market Hall / Things needed and paid for with gold
« on: June 13, 2005, 11:35:00 am »
*A note is posted in crudely written common.*

Many things are needed by Vin and the crafts require many items.
Many bags of sand are needed and 20 gold pieces will be given for each bag of sand.
Many nuggets of iron are needed and 40 gold pieces will be given for each nugget of iron.
More items may be needed and additional items will be listed when needed.

A job like this you would like and the interested note should be posted.
You do not likely find Vin and Vin is the one who finds you.

Fixed Bugs / Subrace CON hit fix didn't work
« on: June 04, 2005, 09:55:00 am »
Well Vin still gets knocked down in his HP when he logs in after the new update.
I got to thinking about it though and I think I know what is actually happening. I think I had it wrong before which is likely why the fix didn't work.
Ok, for a deep gnome or a forest gnome (those are the only two races that have a negative adjustment to CON) when they log out with full health (for Vin that is currently 48 HP) it saves them as having those 48 HP.
When Vin logs in, he momentarily has a CON that is 2 points higher than usual because the subrace hasn't been applied yet. The system sees he is supposed to have 57 HP, but he is recorded as having 48 HP so it knocks him down to 48. The subrace then applies and his CON is dropped 2 points and it sets his max HP to 48 like normal, but the way that adjustment is made it first notices he is not at full health and so he ends up being 39/48. No more damage is done after the subrace is applied, it just adjusts the numbers from 48/57 to 39/48. The damage is done when it thinks he isn't at full health because he logged in with a higher CON than usual.

I hope that helps.

Just for Fun / Music Quotes
« on: May 19, 2005, 12:31:00 pm »
Ok, we have the movie quote game going, how about a similar game for song lyrics?
Rules are the same, name the Song (and the band if you know it) and then post another lyric for others.

Here's one to start it off:

I'm your only friend
I'm not your only friend
But I'm a little glowing friend
But really I'm not actually your friend
But I am

Trade and Market Hall / Exotic Weeds
« on: May 19, 2005, 09:37:00 am »
*A note in scrawled on a paper tacked to the wall.*

The weed has been gathered and it was gathered by Vin.
The weed is Green Dragon's Envy and the envy is had by all without the weed.
One box of weed is available and one box of weed will be sold.
Someone has interest and a message should be left.
Vin finds you and you do not likely find Vin.

Trade and Market Hall / Elderberries & Cranberries
« on: May 11, 2005, 04:40:00 pm »
*A note is posted in crude common script*

Vin buys the berries and the berries are Elderberries and Cranberries.
Vin gives the gold and the berries are given to Vin.
The box is scant and the gold given is 400.
The box overflows and the gold given is 500.

//400 for a scant box (32 berries), 500 for an overflowing box (40 berries)

Fixed Bugs / Subrace Skin: Con hit fix possible?
« on: May 06, 2005, 10:27:00 am »
Would it be possible to have the script that applies the subrace skin to your character notice whether or not it knocked down your constitution, and if it did, then heal you the hp you lost from the hit?
Everytime Vin logs in he takes an hp hit equal to his level when the skin applies because it takes him from con 12 to con 10. It's not a huge deal because I can just rest and when I rest I regain exactly what was lost, but since we have the best coders in nwn land here I thought I'd ask.
This affects deep gnomes and forest gnomes.

Just for Fun / Rice Cakes and Happiness
« on: April 29, 2005, 04:40:00 pm »
It's kind of sad how excited I get when one of my characters succeeds at making a rice cake and how bummed I am at failing and how jealous I am at how easy it is to just grab a rice cake to munch in real life.

*Written in gnomish script with a style and dialect common to the Svirfneblin under what the top siders call the Kingdom of Roldem*

I never had much, but what I could knick from those even less fortunate that me, but I was stripped of even that when I was called to a duty I do not think I even want by a most fearsome dragon in my dreams. Is he real? I do not know other than I woke in a strange land with nothing but the leathers I wore and a small dagger. I've been to the surface, quite often in fact, but always at night where the shadows are long and thick. I woke in a town the locals call Hlint and the sun was beating down on my face. I was immediately blinded when I opened my eyes and sat there in a daze on the ground. I found whoever or whatever brought me here, failed to find the gold I had stashed in my inner pockets. With that meager supply I found a near by store and purchased some basic supplies. The first thing I bought was a hood to keep the awful sun from my eyes. It is still difficult to focus, especially in combat, with all the glare, but I try to do most of what fighting I do in the dark and from the shadows.

I've seen rich mineral deposits with lovely gems, but most are well guarded. I need to improve my skills, especially my hiding if I hope to gather them and stay alive. In the mean time, I have taken to exploring other crafts to enhance my chances of survival. I have begun tailoring and my current project is a cape made of supple panther leather. I have yet to successfully make one worth wearing, but I continue to try. I also have learned many extracts of the plants and insects can be combined into wonderous potions, oils, and acids.

Unfortunately, as I write these notes, I also reflect on a recent death. The death was my own. It seems though that some one some where, be it Beryl or some other, feels my life is worth something and I have yet to remain dead when I call to some beast. My latest traggedy occured on my way back from a hunting trip. I managed to gather several panther skins for my project but as I was crossing a vast plain, the largest griffin I've ever seen came swooping down and knocked me to the ground. Before I could stand he ripped my very heart from my chest and I soon after expired.

Wild Surge Inn / Sign Posted - WANTED! Gem of Divination
« on: March 15, 2005, 10:43:00 am »
One Gem of Divination required immediately!

As many of you know there is a foul creature killing and destroying the population of Mistone. It looks like an ancient mummy, but we aren't sure what it actually is. Myself and a small contingent of people went to Spellguard and spoke with the Head of the Necromancy order at Lucinda's temple.

He couldn't offer much help until he knows what we are actually dealing with. He told us we needed a Gem of Divination. They are evidently quite rare, but if anyone has access to one, please alert either myself or the temple in Spellguard immediately.

Just for Fun / She's cool
« on: February 28, 2005, 10:46:00 am »
Ok, so my wife is no big fan of nwn/Layo as it steals away all my time. She has also never really been into games like this. Lately though she has been watching me play some  (likey so that she can actually spend some time with me). I doubt she'll ever play, but who knows.
It was quite cool though when yesterday I was helping her with something in the kitchen and one of our cats was dancing around the room meowing and basically yelling at me for something. It was too early for the cat's dinner so I don't know what her problem was and I said as much to my wife. She laughed and said it was too bad I didn't have an ear for animal.
Yeah, my wife is cool.

Development Journals and Discussion / The story of Elu Nodin
« on: December 13, 2004, 03:57:00 pm »
The wolfman, Elu Nodin, Graceful Wind, awakens in a strange land, staring at an enormous dragon. He cowers slightly and notices his wolf brother, Patamon Nodin, beside him. The dragon begins to speak and tells him he has been brought to help with a great cause. Elu Nodin is not a hero; he merely wants to return to his pack. The dragon tells him that is not possible at this time and sends him away. Confused, hungry, and far from home, he wakes up from what surely couldn’t have been a dream, to find himself inside a small town.

The wolfman knows to be cautious. He and his pack do not belong in the towns. He is about to go when he smells a female. She has a good scent; he senses she is an animal friend. Her name is Brisbane Woodmaiden, a friend of the wolves. He is hungry and she tells him there are rats beneath the town in something called the sewers. She offers to go with him and together they hunt the rats. She must not be hungry as she leaves the carcasses for Elu. He gladly gnaws on them, stripping what little meat there is. At one point she gives him a small blade and shows him how to extract the skin intact and maximize the amount of meat he can remove.

At the bottom of the sewers, the wolfman sees a huge rat with humanoid shape. Perhaps, like Elu Nodin of the wolves, this man lives in harmony with the rats. The ratman must have objected to Elu’s slaughter of the rats and charged to attack. Elu and Patamon fought well and fell the ratman.

Feeling full, the wolfman thanked the female, and turned to find a safe place where he and Patamon could rest. She stopped him though. She told him he needed clothes. This confuses Elu. He does not understand. She points to the cloth she has draped over her frame. She gives him some gold coins. He is more confused. He wonders what they are, what use they have. She tries to explain they can be traded to others for goods like clothes. Elu doesn’t see a need for the coins or these clothes. He owes a debt to this female though and with her help he gives these coins to a man who gives him suit made of cured cat skin. Elu tries the suit on, but it does not fit well and he dislikes it greatly. He takes it off, but stores it in a bag.

Later, the female, Brisbane, called to him the call of the hunt. She was gathering a band to hunt a tribe of giants. The wolfman knows of the giants. There are occasional giants in the hills around the pack’s forest back home. Elu Nodin gladly joins the hunt and he and Patamon run with a new pack. They are all human and none are as good as Brisbane, nor can they understand the wolfman. He is cautious of them and stays close to Brisbane.

The wolfman joins on a glorious hunt and many of the giant tribe were slain. When the hunt is over, Elu and Patamon help each other clean their wounds. A man cautiously approaches. He has a sack with more of the gold coins. He offers it to the wolfman. The wolfman is again confused. He does not need these coins. The man is insistent though. Not knowing what else to do, Elu Nodin gives the man a rat skin in exchange for the coins. He tells Brisbane what happened and she told him he did not need to give the man the skin. The coins were a gift for helping on the hunt. The hunt was for the good of the pack and the land. There need be no gifts. Nevertheless, Brisbane tells him to hold onto them. They may be useful one day.

Once again she asks him to wear his new suit. He obliges her and pulls it on. It is so restrictive; he squirms and tries to get comfortable. He cannot, so instead, takes on the form of his wolf brother. He thanks Brisbane again and runs out of town.

Later he reverts to human form and cannot stand the suit. He removes the arms and legs and finds it fits much better. He is hungry again. In the forest near by he catches the scent of deer. He follows the tracks and finds a pair. He and Patamon attack, each taking a deer. He strips the deer of skin and meat. He tries to eat the meat, but it is tough and difficult to swallow. He soon gives up and leaves in search of something better. He wanders alone and hungry wishing he could be reunited with his pack.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / A Book of Alchemaic Recipes
« on: December 06, 2004, 03:10:00 pm »
While all of the recipes for the various alchemy creations are available in game (the cards, the table, etc), I have found that for this craft with all it's varied ingredients, it is handy to have an easy to read/search reference. I often come across some ingredient and I know it likely has a use in alchemy, but I can't remember what it's for.

To that end, I present version 1.1 of the Alchemy Book.

Also in rar format Alchemy Book

I have added the new silver and titanium enchantment recipes so the book should be complete at this time.
