Just for Fun / A Tiny Jennara« on: September 24, 2016, 05:56:07 pm »
Way back in 2011, I made a post about miniature painting and hoping to find a good mini to represent Jennara. Since then, a company called Hero Forge has become a thing. There, on their website, you can "sculpt" miniatures digitally from various parts and poses, and then (if you pay them) they will 3D print those miniatures and mail them to you. If you don't pay them, you can still play with the tools.I ordered a few Jennaras, a Gulnyr the Grim, and an Iri Ambercress!. So far, I have painted one Jennara: She is not this big (assuming you're looking at this on a monitor that was born in this century). Here are some painting progress shots, one of which includes a penny for scale:These are the base coat step and first shadow step, respectively, for the skin. And then the first and second highlight steps, respectively. Then the eyes were painted and she came alive. And here's the penny for scale. Here are three of the miniatures I have yet to paint. They're dark grey plastic, so it's a little hard to see the details in this photo. They need a little cleanup to get rid of extra plastic from the 3D printing process, then priming and painting can begin.

Ancients Legacy / Missives Sent« on: July 10, 2015, 11:24:30 pm »
As a small group arrives at Bloody Gate, Plenarius takes no time to breath and immediately blows some shrill whistles for messenger falcons. A few arrive and he sends out some hastily scribed notes to friends and acquaintances. He then heads to the Bloody Gate temple and describes the situation to the leaders, not even awaiting any confirmation of aid or course of action by the dwarves his necessity to move being of the highest importance. He takes flight and heads westward and arrives at the Wolfswood and immediately heads to the headquarters of the Wolfswood Rangers. Again he describes what amounts to a very important crusade into Milara's domain and awaits how they wish to offer aid if at all.He returns to Bloody Gate and collapses for a rest. As he drifts off he wonders if it will be the last safe rest he will have for a long time.

General Discussion / Ancients Legacy Performance« on: January 24, 2015, 02:39:40 pm »
Hey Gang,Sorry I had to bail on the quest today. The lag was just so bad on my end, it was unworkable. I suspect it has something todo with my terrible network connection. I am unable to get anything decent in my particular subburb of Prague. It was great to see all the familar faces, and the passion still there. Keep it up. Hopefully one day I can rejoin you again.

Just for Fun / A little addict fun« on: December 25, 2009, 04:23:27 am »
Twas the night before the Giver, when all through the server
Not a creature was stirring, not even a char approver. The dirt heaps were piled, in Port Hempstead with care In hopes that donations of shield scrolls would soon be there. The refugees were nestled, all snug in their tents, And all the monsters slept, even the treants. Zahid asked for balance; Argos, a knight of sorts, Razeriem for more women, and for Steel, witty retorts. When out on the battlefield there was a great clatter, We looked to find the Dwarven Army out sorting the matter, And then came the Angels, the Orc Bashers, too, And all the other groups and guilds jumped into the stew. They were saving the world, one day at a time, From cults and cutthroats and gelatinous slime, They were sorcs who cast, and bards who sing lyrical, And fighters who want to de-nerf devastating critical, There were druids who shift, and rogues who are shiftier, They were wizards who solo, and whose pixies are thriftier, They were gallant paladins, and rangers who track, They were charging barbarians, and clerics had their back. They were monks, so disciplined and so tame, And they all rushed into action when the DM-run quest came. The Narrator called out in his bright yellow text, Roll me spot, listen, search, and hide checks. The players obliged, and got ready to play, The natural 20s could see Santa in the real-world, miles away, They finished the quest, and used their remembering orbs, And then logged off, and hit the forum boards. Off Alazira, Hood!um, Off faedanz, and Gelooo Off Hellblazer, Lord Dark, Off Andrew, and Tod Fellow. They all got off to update their CDTs And then time for bed, and a good night's sleep, But wait, what's this? They've logged on again, Just to finish up some crafting, for an hour or ten. It's what makes them, and this server, dear to me, Addiction, and then some, to the Layonara company. Happy holidays! The following users thanked this post: twidget658

Layonara Server / Version 3.21.4 is online« on: September 25, 2009, 01:37:29 pm »
It's been longer than expected, but...
Version 3.21.4 is online!
** Characters with the Cloak of the Bat can ask a GM directly in-game for a replacement with the Nighteyes Cloak. Please do not clog the Grievance/Request process with these. This is an item-for-item swap. Thanks go to orth, Script Wrecked and Acacea for their contributions, as well as Alatriel for her remodel work. Please note that this does require an updated HAK file, which can be downloaded here. Enjoy! The following users thanked this post: twidget658

Roleplaying / Two Pet Hates« on: September 17, 2009, 06:25:44 am »
Okay, maybe hate is too strong a word. The word 'hate' implies a depth of feeling I normally reserve for those things that peeve me in real life, not my chosen leisure activity.
Let's instead call these two pet niggles. Yeah, that sounds better. Less vitriolic by far. Now that I actually sit down to write about it, if it were not for the fact that Mrs Pseudo was watching Glee on TV and there is not much else for me to do, I probably wouldn't even bother. That said, 1. Please no forced emotes/feelings in character descriptions! Forced emotes have been addressed ad nauseum elsewhere for general roleplay but not (to my knowledge) for character descriptions, I am talking about the info we can read if we right-click (option-click) on your character. You don't make me feel uncomfortable! I don't think your gaze pierces me to the very depths of my soul! Etc, etc. In short, you don't make me feel anyhting, I decide what my character feels. How 'bout you just provide an objective narrative that describes what I am seeing and I'll fill in the subjective stuff?!? 2. Helmets Cowls Hoods Veils Scarves Niqaabs Other So you've chosen to take up the roleplay challenge of a dark elven (half-orc, tiefling, etc) character. Good for you. A really interesting dark history, century upon century of brutality, cruelty, conniving and treachery. All interesting stuff. Hey, lets not forget those pretty nifty mechanical benefits but, of course, you have the compromise of being hated and mistrusted across the world to balance those. What's your point, you ask? Be realistic with what another PC would be able to see of you under your all-concealing helmet, hood, veil, etc!! If you can see with enough clarity to fight/spot/listen/bluff/concentrate/search/etc without penalty from the depths of your face covering - there is a fair chance I can see enough of your face to determine skin colour, glowing red eyes, etc! I will accept my character cannot see ANYTHING of your face (hands/neck/etc) if and when I can see your roleplay reflect that the facial swaddling is so extremely thorough that you are stumbling about the place, three-quarters deaf and blind. You're playing a dark-elf. Accept the roleplay difficulties that come along with the mechanical benefits. A face/race obscuring hood panacea seems, to me at least, a bit of a copout. PS. This is not directed at anyone in particular. Glee is over, i'm off! The following users thanked this post: twidget658

General Discussion / Just another player.« on: August 26, 2009, 11:22:23 am »
Wasn't going to make a public post about this because I didn't think it was really that necessary, but I guess I should make people aware that I have stepped down from the GM team and will no longer be running any quests etc.
I will still be here as a player, as much as I can spare the time for, but sadly it's best I step down as I can't dedicate the time I used to be able to writing/running quests, it has been a lot of fun and a big thanks to the team for letting me a part of it. Just for Fun / Layonara Pirates who Don't do anything« on: August 17, 2009, 12:37:41 pm »
As I was making the long trek from San Diego to San Francisco the kids and I were listening to music and one of our favorite songs shuffled to the front called "Pirates who don't do anything" and as I listened to the song three faces came to mind who I thought represented the trio singing just nicely.
YouTube - VeggieTales Pirates Who Don't Do Anything I can see Sall as Mr. Lunt the Gourd, Ark as Pa Grape, and Cardin as Larry the Cucumber.. *grinning* of course you can pop in whatever names you feel best fits. The following users thanked this post: twidget658

Layonara Server / Congratulations Ycleption« on: July 27, 2009, 10:48:03 am »
As the world of Layonara continues to change, so to do our needs and methods. Something that has seen many changes over the years is the process of Character Approvals. While the policies, procedures and expectations have evolved, so too have our means of choosing who approves characters to play in this world. At first it was a position held only by GMs and only those who wished to take on the responsibility. At some point, we opened up the position to the greater community, and in that the application process also evolved over time. Having tried several methods thus far, we have decided to try yet another and directly approach a long-time member of the community for the purpose of having this individual join the Character Approver team, rather than open up a potentially lengthy application process to fill a rather immediate need.
Please join us in welcoming ycleption as Layonara's newest Character Approver. We believe ycleption's time, judgment, world experience and positive presence within the community will be an asset to the Character Approval team and, through this, the world as a whole. Rumour Has It / Iron Hills« on: July 07, 2009, 12:48:13 am »
*overheard in a tavern in Dalanthar from a woman in black*
Yeah it would appear that the mine is no longer stable. I think someone or something might be digging deeper into the mountains searching for more ore. You will definitely want to take extra help with you. Our small group was able to get clear the caves but well it wasn't a walk in the park. There for a while though it felt as if there was an earthquake or something. *the discussion continues for several minutes* Yeah it also seams that the Ogres have a new leader whom is organizing them and training them to fight. But you know they don't call me Death's Mistress for nothing. *the woman finishes her drink and drops a coin on the table and vanishes into thin air* The following users thanked this post: twidget658

Rumour Has It / Dark Elves spotted in upper areas of Rift« on: June 27, 2009, 08:06:37 pm »
*Tralek submits the enclosed letter to Dalanthar Authorities*
This is a formal report of sightings of Dark Elves in the upper areas of the Great Rift. Vrebel and myself were recently in the Great Rift and on our ascent upwards, after climbing the chain, we encountered two Dark Elves. There was a warrior type and some kind of mage. They were dealt with. Further on our way up we encountered two more Darkies. We thought that was it for surprises until we heard some faint horn noises in the distance. About this time, a Giant not seen by us before in the Rift, attacked us. This Giant was very large and powerful. The other Giants parted and allowed him passage to us. We defeated him, but we both brushed close to death for sure. This letter is to warn those who travel the Rift to be on their guard. Tralek The following users thanked this post: twidget658

General Discussion / Joining the rank and file :)« on: June 25, 2009, 09:28:00 am »
Hi everybody!
This is the post to inform I am stepping down as GM. I'm not disappearing from Layo, in fact I hope, RL and remaining DTs permitting, to step up my involvement with Ark as an active and roleplay-enhancing World Leader. About two years ago I applied for a GM position in order to enhance people's Layo experience, primarily in the AEST timeslot given poor old Dezza was shouldering a lot of that burden on his lonesome. The main goal of my quests has always been to get players to really think long and hard about their characters. To put roleplay flesh on their mechanics bones. To make players really think about what their characters would do in a given situation, a given moral dilemma. To put them in a place, not always comfortable, not always where they want to be and then see what they would do and where they go. Often my quests have a simple enough premise but I tried to have them involve something that had folks exploring the depths of their character's psyche. As I write this, I remember one of my quests, early on, that had people magicked into behaving in a manner the polar opposite to their 'normal' sex, class and alignment. This stands out in my memory as a very 'typical me' quest. Hopefully fun. A touch of madness. A strange situation. Minimal set-up A quest that (hopefully) by getting you to do something the opposite of what was normal, made you think more deeply about what was normal. By playing Lawful Evil for an evening, it made you think about what it really meant to be Chaotic Good the other 364 nights of the year. Anyways, hopefully after two years there are some players who have a better picture of their characters as a result of my quests. As to why I am resigning, no deep and dark discontent or disparaging remarks against any individual or the GM team as a whole to be found here! Of course there are decisions made which, as an individual, one might not 100% agree. Directions taken that might not have been the direction I would have taken were it my sandbox. Little niggles here and there etc yada yada but I can tell you there are no light decisions ever made by the GM team. No personal grudges. No favourites. No bias. Just a bunch of people that really do strive to provide the best server to be found. Anyways, see you in game! The following users thanked this post: twidget658

Had to chime in here to say that your last two chapters of the Dawn of Heroes series has been absolutely incredible. The NPC interactions, plots, traps, encounters, everything has been top notch. I particularly enjoyed how you set the scenes up in Hlint with the battles already in progress. It Gave a nice sense of urgency to the whole experience.
Major, major kudos man! The following users thanked this post: twidget658
