General Discussion / All Call for Rangers
« on: May 11, 2008, 06:09:39 pm »
*A small notice is left at the best ranger camps around Layonara*

It is that time again. I would like to get all the rangers/trackers together so we can greet each other and to give us all a chance to learn from each other.

Feel free to bring your animal friends around. This is an event for them as well. And unlike the local towns, the camp welcomes such companions.

I am also willing to take on two apprentices.

We will meet at the Wolfswood Ranger Corps Camp on Jenra 9.

//RP heavy with allowance for OOC discussion for mechanical issues. However, if we can talk mechanics IC, that will be the preference.

//Please sign up on the calendar event so I can plan accordingly. ;)

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / *A letter delivered to the inn*
« on: May 11, 2008, 12:40:33 am »
Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern,

I have heard from a few sources that the inn and tavern is planning a great hunt for lions. A sudden mass hunting of the lions will certainly affect the balance of at least one pride, maybe more. When lions are hunted over a period of time, their numbers can keep up and the balance is maintained.

Therefore, I am making an offer to support the inn and the lions. Over the course of time, I have collected many hides from poachers, trapped animals and a few where the pride was getting too large and the population had to be reduced to preserve food sources and prevent diseases. With the hides from these animals, I have made five bags that I am willing to donate to your inn and tavern for whatever event you are planning. Please send word to the Wolfswood Ranger Corps Headquarters on Alindor to arrange a delivery.

In addition, please contact the corps before such a hunt takes place so we can provide assistance and prevent undesired affects of over hunting.

 Respectfully,
 Rodlin Serim
 Captain, Wolfswood Ranger Corps

General Discussion / Into the Clouds
« on: April 19, 2008, 04:47:51 pm »
Ever wanted to leave the road but was afraid of what you could not see from the road?

Well, I am here to show you. I am planning a trip from the Stormcrest to the mountains to the North (Hammerbound Peaks and everywhere in between). We are going to see what lies off the road. We are going to see what the top of clouds look like. You will be able to map and meet other people. You will be able to see areas you have not been able to see yet. So bring your parchment and quill and lets enjoy an adventure in the company of others.

//This is for anyone that wants to come. No level requirement.

The danger depends on your actions.

I will go as long as there are people behind me or until I physically can't.

There will be NO rushing ahead. I will take point and control the pace.

I am looking for a good RP adventure with new players and old players. The bigger the mix the better it should be. This is a learning experience for the newer players learning from the older ones. This will be a good chance for the older players to meet the newer ones (and maybe even show off a little).

If you have any questions along the way...ask them or write them down for later, please. Learn learn learn. Tells are fine, but I have to keep the pace moving.

All loot and CNR will be divided.

Lore can be told by anyone. This is where some of the older players can play a big part as well.

General Discussion / Reminder About Player Etiquette
« on: February 17, 2008, 01:17:07 pm »
I have recently run across a couple of examples that warrants reminder about player etiquette.

If you are involved in an impromptu quest, please do not send tells to all your friends having them to report to a location. If the GM wants other people or the rest of the server informed, you will probably see a shout like *anyone that is outside sees a bright light reflecting off the clouds in the direction of Hlint*.

Another example, please do not run past people in a CNR area to gather the CNR before the first party gets to it. The best way to handle it is through RP. Stop and ask the original party if they are on their way out or in. You may be able to join, or just come back later. RP is the key. If you are confronted IC'ly about running in front of people, using a Wizard's Tome of Teleportation usually will send the matter to OOC tells; especially if there is no RP to justify your actions.

Examples listed below are not acceptable:
 - I saw a really huge level gap and cause one can't party with more than seven levels of distance I figured you were just RP-ing.
 - I can't play with a good friend cause they're more than seven above me.
 - The room I went into needs a thief to open. I thought you were a cleric?
 - I don't talk often.
 - People start spamming listen checks as I'm usually disguised so it isn't much fun.
 - Everyone mostly knows I'm (insert evil deity here) from the forum, so if I speak to them then I get frustrated.

There are real life players playing these PCs, please have consideration for everyone.

Rumour Has It / 'Having to Let Go'
« on: February 10, 2008, 03:32:38 pm »
*Word comes from the Temple of Kithairien that a man named, Lance Coyle, brought his deceased wife and devoted follower of the Runner, Randi 'Tyyne' Coyle, into the temple tightly embraced in his arms to be laid to rest. He was followed by a fellow name 'Bear' and his future wife, Abigail.

Randi was laid at the temple for her final visit where those present paid their last respects and said goodbye to a wife and friend. Her body was draped with a Kithairien flag that was carried by Lance.

In honor of the Randi's last wishes and the ways of Kithairien, she will be cremated upon a wooded altar and her remains scattered by the winds. The location of the ceremony is only known by her husand and immediate family.*

General Discussion / Deploying Soon
« on: November 17, 2007, 01:45:53 pm »
Well, folks, my shore tour ended about two months ago and I reported onboard my next submarine 'the boat'. While I was on shore duty, I got to play nearly every day for close to three years. But, with every sea going command comes a mission. We are going on that mission. I will be out (with no port calls) for roughly three months. That means no forums and quitting Layo cold turkey. I am not looking forward to the withdrawals.

One of the things that haunts me is the ending of the current version of Layo while I am deployed. I do hope that the forums are still around on my return. Lynn1020 will be able to send out brief messages to keep me updated on the status and about you guys; really my only link to the real world, family conditions (my Layo family too) and such. So, needless to say, I do look forward to the messages. If anyone desires to send a note to me, it will have to be routed to Lynn1020 and she can forward it on.

I would like to personally thank you, Leanthar, for your creation, creativity and allowing me to be a part of it. I do wish you the best on the next generation of Layonara.

To the rest of the 'Layo family', thank you for the fun! I hope to see you all again. There are SO many great memories (and a ton of screenshots om my PC to look at while I am out):) . Who would have thought such from a computer game? Oh, has anyone ever felt like their character was real and lived inside your computer like in an aquarium? Yeah, me either. ;)  But I have dreamed of meeting Rodlin and shaking his hand and talking to him for a while. That was one of several other Layo related dreams I have had. Layo has become more than just a game.

Thanks again, good luck and best wishes to all!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Longevity Rewards
« on: August 30, 2007, 12:23:15 pm »
Request one SS be returned to a -- player -- for every year that they have been with layo.

I recommend for it to go to the player so the player can apply it to the character(s) of his/her choosing. If a character is played for several years, then a return of a SS(s) would probably be most welcomed and probably needed. It also would encourage staying with the server.

 Or

It could go to each character as the character reaches his/her 'birthday'. It would be a great 'birthday' gift. Happy birthday to [Character Name] you have been with for a/another year.

Some people say that the loss of SS is an OOC thing, so a RL year SS reimbursement would not be metagaming or cause significant hardship on players trying to figure out how their character would RP getting a SS returned. The other players that see it as a IC thing, then they can just RP it as a 'healing' or a gift from their deity.

Introduce Yourself / *the hood is lowered*
« on: June 09, 2007, 06:42:44 am »
I am the player behind Rodlin Serim and Ami (my two favorite characters that I play).

My name is Mike. I currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii with my wife, two sons and a daughter. My sons are 15 and 12 and my daughter is 5 (which we all play with the exception of our 5 year old, but she knows about DTs).

I started playing paper D&D with my cousin, friends and only brother when I was in Junior High (I was always a ranger, go figure; I was outside from sun up to sun down roaming the country side). My brother was the brain and was always the DM. He was not always very nice, either. But now, he is a Naval pilot, ex-test pilot, with hundreds of carrier landings and a few missions in the gulf (never saw that one coming when we were growing up...I even broke his big toe once...and laughed about it).

Once the computer age started, I played some of the texted adventure games and then...The Bard's Tale. Since then, some of my favorites were/are the Ultima series (IV, VI and VII my favorite), Might and Magic and the Magic Candle.

I found Layonara from a co-worker (the player behind Rawkwin Valerius), actually, in October of 2004. I had just gotten to my second shore tour and we started to get to know one another and talking about online gaming. I had never played an online game so I was a bit hesitant. But one thing lead to another and before we knew it, six to eight of us bought the NWN game, registered in the forums and started playing. BAM! We were all hooked. We talked every morning about the events that happened the night before and what we were oing to do that night. As new people came in, we advertised Layo and got them addicted, HAHA. Then, it spread to the families. Great times! There are only a handful of days that I have not logged into the game since then (even if it was for 20 minutes to realize I was too tired to play).

When I graduated from high school, I left for Navy boot camp. I volunteered for Submarine Service, became an electronic technician. And now, as this shore tour wraps up, going back to sea. There goes all my Layo time.

In my off time, I coach little league baseball for the 11-12 year olds. Other hobbies include: SCUBA diving (which my oldest son is now my normal dive buddy), camping, computer gaming, hiking, and teaching/training/coaching firearms.

I was thinking (which usually gets me into trouble) since all the characters will eventually be gone, can the Soul Mother take a vacation to allow the players the opportunity to enjoy this last update without the fear of losing their characters.

It is likely most poeple will NOT develope their characters much further, or even make the transition to the new Layo, this will allow them the opportunity to go out into new areas, adventure with people that have been on the back burner due to having 9 or 14 SS' lost, and to have fun whiling exploring instead of fearing every transition due to spawns being inadvertantly set too close to the transition and spawn times (which some are still around from V3).

*posted on the bulletin board in the Stormcrest Shack*

As a guide of the Stormcrest, I will be guiding a tour to the Temple of Folian S'pae. Any follower of the Longstrider may and is encouraged to attend.

If you are new to these parts or lack the funds for four boat rides, I will pay the cost for the tickets. These tickets include the trip there and back. I rather pay the cost of the tickets and strengthen the bounds between the Prince of Wolves and his followers then have someone not go because of money issues.

The story of the hidden path to the temple will be told.

Juices and eats will be provided at the temple in company with Kara and Eliniawith.

Bring your temple donations!

The tour will start at the Stormcrest Shack.

May The Prince of Wolves watch over you.
Rodlin
