General Discussion / Understanding Weird and Wail of the Banshee
« on: July 09, 2007, 02:51:38 am »
I understand the Weird spell...a phantasm appears and if the enemy believes the illusion to be real and fails the affects of being scared (fortitude), the beegeebies are scared out of the enemy and they die.

Wail of the Banshee is...a scream or yell? A burst of sonic energy that does what? Scramble the brain or bursts vessels, what?

And then it comes up in party. Weird is used and it is okay. Wail is used and it is not. Just because of magic school? Is it okay to scare the  out of the enemy but you can't scream at them? I fail to really see why one is acceptable and the other is not.

Introduce Yourself / *the hood is lowered*
« on: June 09, 2007, 06:42:44 am »
I am the player behind Rodlin Serim and Ami (my two favorite characters that I play).

My name is Mike. I currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii with my wife, two sons and a daughter. My sons are 15 and 12 and my daughter is 5 (which we all play with the exception of our 5 year old, but she knows about DTs).

I started playing paper D&D with my cousin, friends and only brother when I was in Junior High (I was always a ranger, go figure; I was outside from sun up to sun down roaming the country side). My brother was the brain and was always the DM. He was not always very nice, either. But now, he is a Naval pilot, ex-test pilot, with hundreds of carrier landings and a few missions in the gulf (never saw that one coming when we were growing up...I even broke his big toe once...and laughed about it).

Once the computer age started, I played some of the texted adventure games and then...The Bard's Tale. Since then, some of my favorites were/are the Ultima series (IV, VI and VII my favorite), Might and Magic and the Magic Candle.

I found Layonara from a co-worker (the player behind Rawkwin Valerius), actually, in October of 2004. I had just gotten to my second shore tour and we started to get to know one another and talking about online gaming. I had never played an online game so I was a bit hesitant. But one thing lead to another and before we knew it, six to eight of us bought the NWN game, registered in the forums and started playing. BAM! We were all hooked. We talked every morning about the events that happened the night before and what we were oing to do that night. As new people came in, we advertised Layo and got them addicted, HAHA. Then, it spread to the families. Great times! There are only a handful of days that I have not logged into the game since then (even if it was for 20 minutes to realize I was too tired to play).

When I graduated from high school, I left for Navy boot camp. I volunteered for Submarine Service, became an electronic technician. And now, as this shore tour wraps up, going back to sea. There goes all my Layo time.

In my off time, I coach little league baseball for the 11-12 year olds. Other hobbies include: SCUBA diving (which my oldest son is now my normal dive buddy), camping, computer gaming, hiking, and teaching/training/coaching firearms.

Trade and Market Hall / 3 Invisibility Potions...Going...Going...
« on: June 08, 2007, 08:40:49 pm »
The quickest way to get yourself out of a deadly situation is to take a quick acting invisibility potion. Keep a few of these in an easily accessable pocket and drink on the run from a creature that is trying to pulverize you.

Three Invisibility Potions

READY to be sold

to the highest bidder.

Post your bids below this notice.

No private bids!

At the end of the auction, I will find you. Trust me!

These potions were made by a ranger...so you know they are GOOD. Best way to avoid the soul mother is not to die. These will do just that.

//Auction will end on the Sunday night midnight PST.

I was thinking (which usually gets me into trouble) since all the characters will eventually be gone, can the Soul Mother take a vacation to allow the players the opportunity to enjoy this last update without the fear of losing their characters.

It is likely most poeple will NOT develope their characters much further, or even make the transition to the new Layo, this will allow them the opportunity to go out into new areas, adventure with people that have been on the back burner due to having 9 or 14 SS' lost, and to have fun whiling exploring instead of fearing every transition due to spawns being inadvertantly set too close to the transition and spawn times (which some are still around from V3).

Wild Surge Inn / Dust/Smoke/Fog Creature
« on: May 18, 2007, 03:13:17 am »
*tacked to the bulletin board hastely*

Just posting case someone needs the information or knows something more about it...

Some type of creature made of smoke, dust or fog confronted a female companion and me near the goblin camp to the West of Hlint. After some time blowing around and a few darkness spells, it said, "Find him...return it." Then it vanished.

Good luck, I hope it helps someone!

Wild Surge Inn / Warning: Deadly Goblins
« on: May 06, 2007, 06:14:17 pm »
*written in a rushed and sloppy hand*

The runts in the Wastelands know death magic! They hit a companion and me with back to back scare spells. Scared the both of us to death in a flash! I was not as lucky as my companion.

USE CAUTION when confronting these runts.

 Happy huntin',
 Lance

//The goblin warlord casted two phantasmal killers; one right after the other. This is the goblin on the surface in the camp. Tough way to lose you first SS.

*posted on the bulletin board in the Stormcrest Shack*

As a guide of the Stormcrest, I will be guiding a tour to the Temple of Folian S'pae. Any follower of the Longstrider may and is encouraged to attend.

If you are new to these parts or lack the funds for four boat rides, I will pay the cost for the tickets. These tickets include the trip there and back. I rather pay the cost of the tickets and strengthen the bounds between the Prince of Wolves and his followers then have someone not go because of money issues.

The story of the hidden path to the temple will be told.

Juices and eats will be provided at the temple in company with Kara and Eliniawith.

Bring your temple donations!

The tour will start at the Stormcrest Shack.

May The Prince of Wolves watch over you.
Rodlin

//This event will be posted on the players calendar in the near future.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Take to the Air in Fey Form
« on: March 30, 2007, 05:46:17 am »
Like some druids have Take to the Air in bird form, can the other classes that polymorph into a creature that flies get the Take to the Air spell as well?

Seems a bit odd that a fey flies up to a cliff or to a ravine and cannot fly up to the edge or across the ravine. A fey, for example, flies around but stops at the waters edge because it cannot fly across water. Or it comes to a cliff, but cannot fly up or down it face.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Ability to Find or Make Tinder
« on: March 30, 2007, 05:35:41 am »
Man in the Woods: "Mister Ranger, I am hungry and cold and am in dire need of a fire. I am a glass maker by trade and lost my way to the next town."

Ranger: "Sir, I would gladly build you a fire and aid you to your destination. I have lived in the forest all my life and use what nature provides to sustain my own life."

 *Ranger checks his pack*

Ranger: *sheepish grin* "Sir, might you have some type of tinder, or something that will be easy to light and will sustain a flame, on you? If not, I will have to go to town to buy some from the merchant."

Is there anyway that a ranger and druid can use a carpenter's tool on  branch to make tinder without having to do it in the crafthall? If not, possibly some way to make allow rangers and druids to get tinder other than buying from a merchant.

Fixed Bugs / Lesser Planar Binding Shortcoming
« on: March 27, 2007, 01:46:54 am »
If this is not a bug, then it holds true to its name. I took Lesser Planar Binding, a fifth level sorcerer spell and I got this...

*points to the picture that he hopes makes it into the thread*

If this is not a bug, I request a re-level so I can get rid of it. Thanks for your time.

Fixed Bugs / Cave in the Battlehelm Moors

The tree that has the visual effects does not have the AT to enter the cave, another tree does. This, however, may be intentional.

General Discussion / Don't Leave Things Lying Around
« on: October 24, 2006, 08:47:32 pm »
I have noticed lately that there is A LOT of item left on crafting benches. The server does have to keep track of all these items and it causes/adds to lag. There are trash cans EVERWHERE and almost always one close by. Please police yourself and keep the server clean.
