Rumour Has It / Response to recent events
« on: December 05, 2010, 11:07:21 pm »
Within hours of messages arriving at the harborside home of the Foundation head, the dockside building springs into action. Men can be seen loading hand carts and a few caravaan wagons with sacks of grain, barrels of salted meat, wine, ale and crates of the first of the harvest apples and root crops. Bolts of strong cloth and staves are loaded into the wagons as women sit on the ends of the carts stiching what looks like tent panels.
The red headed Katrien is directing the distrubution of materials and the formation of the caravaan. Lightly armored and armed men form up to protect the goods as they leave the gates of Port Hempshire and head north. Rumor is they are heading to the bard's former home town in Hlint as some sort of catastophy has happened there. The lady herself mounts a chestnut horse and rides ahead out of the city and in the same direction after relaying requests to other guild members and friends. A trained falcon flies at her side as she paces her mount over the fields out of the city.

// The Foundation has a large amount of supplies ready and on their way to the town. Kat plans to head to Drake ahead of the convoy to ask for some of the fall harvest to be sent to Hlint. The armsmen are under the command of NPC Braonan and suitable amount for their hire will be taken from Foundation accounts.
//any PC's that wish to assist the Foundation please contact me.

General Discussion / Computer issues
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:26:16 pm »
I came home from work to find my main computer dead.  Its going to the shop tomorrow and I can still check the forums and such but it was the machine I had NWN on so I cannot be in game in GM or player capacity until I either get it repaired or install NWN on my back up machine.

Just a heads up - prolly won't effect much but you know how murphy's law is and as soon as I can't do something I'll need to.

General Discussion / Nova Quest
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:18:16 am »

This is my new quest series.

It will run on Saturday nights from 8pm eastern to 11:30pm and maybe the occassional marathon session if I (and the party) are up to it.

To keep things enjoyable for me and conversely for you [no one likes a cranky GM] I am imposing some limits and expectations to this series.

First I will not lock it unless the party finds themselves in a place that its not concievable for new people to be or people not on a previous episode to be.

The party size will be 12 or less. In the beginning if more show then dice will decide, as things progress there may be episodes where some have earned preference. I will make every attempt not to exclude people so if in doubt show up. Some times I am feeling better than others and will take more but I want to put a staring limit at 12. Also, if you know at the beginning you cannot commit to the entire session (note I said session, not series) please do not take a spot from someone who could commit to the whole session. I am more than understanding about sick kids, drunk roommates needing bail and the like, but knowing you have to be at work 1/2 way into the event or something just is not fair.

This is a quest about the story, the process and the getting there. It will be RP heavy. You can expect character consequences and dilemmas. At times you might have session where you go absolutely nowhere physically and everywhere developmentally. You might have a session with seat of your pants TPK pending action too but don't count on them too often unless some are very silly or not thinking.

It is for developing personalities and stories not leveling. I will (as much as I can with my busy personal and professional life) try am meld your character into the story as I can. I may make you uncomfortable or make you think about things you never thought your character might have to face.

There will be puzzles. There will be red herrings and brick walls and loose ends.

The quest is open to all alignments and classes and races. Party dynamics however may exclude some or make things more difficult for monsterous races and evil alignments. This is part and parcel of playing these characters. As your GM I will not exclude you but you can be assured that the NPCs will react appropriately and your party may turn hostile on you.

All that said. This quest is for characters level 1 -15. If you start the quest series and level past 19 I will be asking you to retire or take a minimal role. I am telling you this up front. I expect this to last for at least 4 if not 6 months and run for about 6 hours a month in game time and whatever effort the party puts into role play between sessions either ingame or on the forums. For some it may spawn CDQs with me or other GMs.

General Discussion / Something odd....

Bags of Loot and chests of treasure...

In honor of St Paddy's Day, several very nice "Pots of Gold" have been scattered around the lands both above and below.

Have fun finding them.  When the server resets their gone.  First come basis, they will not refill.

General Discussion / Scavenger Hunt - Again.
« on: January 31, 2010, 02:54:59 am »
First one was so much fun, I'm going to do this again on Feb 21

This time I'm giving a tad more notice and trying for a neutral timezone so as many as possible can participate.

 Rules.

 1) Teams of 2-8 players - you make the teams, not me.  You can form them before the event or from whomever shows up.  My only request is that vetran players and novice players make an effort to team up together to share the Layonara experience and get to know one another.

 2) Teams must stay together.  No splitting in different directions to cover as much ground as possible.  The only exception would be if particular players were mechanically (ie less than level 10 needing to enter an advanced craft hall) or RP (paladin of Toran entering another temple) able to follow.  Those players would wait for their team at the most sensible spot, not wander off on their own.
You may band together to accomplish a difficult task.

 3) You have four hours to gather as many of the items as possible. You must  return to the start point within the time allowed to qualify. In the event of a tie, the team with the most items in the shortest time wins.  Time is recorded when at least 75% of the team is back. Last time we had some lag issues that almost disqualified a team - pay attention but I will make some allowances for slower computer systems.

 4) Some items will have enough for all teams to collect and others will be limited.  Limited items are a first come, first served basis.  You can, as stategy take multiple items unless I have a sign or tag not to.  This can be part of your strategy if you wish.  I will do my best to make the location as unabigious as possible, however as brilliant as a I am :p  I do not know every spawn on the server.  If you are after bees knees and find a source that I was unaware of, you may be out of luck.  This happened last time, I will try not to let it happen again.

 5) If you are playing on the servers while I am setting up - please don't take the items from the scavenger teams.

 6) There will be items that will require killing an animals/creatures to obtain and others that could be obtained by passive means or gathering.  This will allow more passive characters the choice to participate in a non violent manner without direct GM intervention, but choices and RP within the group are part of the fun. Items will be tagged special for the scavenger hunt such that raiding of guild hall supplies and personal stores will not give an advantage.

 7) Besides bragging rights, the winning team will have an undetermined prize pot and a "really nice item" to roll for within the group.  Second place will have a consolation prize for team members.

Please note - this is for all levels.  There will be items that only an epic party might obtain and those that players of any level may obtain.  It it more about knowing where things are on the server and exploration than levels.  Please don't feel intimidated if you are a lower level.  This is a great oppertunity to explore and get to know your fellow players.

Rumour Has It / Fire in the Forest of Fog
« on: November 26, 2009, 11:46:22 am »
Fire destroys a section of the Forest of Fog

A major fire, thought to be of magical origin destroyed a huge area of the Forest of Fog before local druids and rangers were able to bring it under control.  It was  very close to a known temple to Folian S'pae.  Luckily it is reported that none of the clergy were hurt though some of the children using the den did suffer from smoke damage to their breathing before escaping out a back entrance.  Most of the occupants of the temple were not present, being at an pilgrimage to some unknown shrine deeper in the forest.

The bodies of several Dark Elves dressed in Corathian gear were discovered at dead in close proximity to the blaze but unfortunately they were bound and thus could not be held for capture.  Rumors abound that a mysterious artifact was found on one of the bodies before it disappeared.   The body of a heavily tattooed human was also found ravaged by wolves and bears and remains unidentified.  Healers were not able to help the individual and his remains were interred by clergy somewhere close to the fire.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Innocent Investigations : Tues Session
« on: June 21, 2009, 03:42:37 pm »
Just a heads up that the Tues session might be canceled at the last moment.

It seems I may have been just a tad too active at the keyboard of late or just fate has caused my ulnar neuritis (varient of carple tunnel) to act up.

As my manual dexterity is a major part of my profession you can understand why I want the feeling back in my ring finger and pinkie... so if it improves (just flared today) then we are GTG but if it lingers we may have to postpone setting sail until Sunday or even later.

I will let you know for sure Tues morning before noon EDT.

 Sorry for any inconveince

Rumour Has It / Sea Tale
« on: June 09, 2009, 10:53:40 pm »
Those traveling around the ports in Eastern Alindor, Tilmar, Corsain, Southern Belinara and even the Western coast of Voltrex may hear the occasional rumor of a battle at sea witnessed by a few ships in the regular trade lanes of the Sea of Mour of a huge dragon and a flying ship. It is a fantasitcal tale and one has to wonder at its truth, but a few enterprising Ilsarians have been selling canvases depicting the event. One such looks like this:

Rumour Has It / Rumor from around Vehl.
« on: April 24, 2009, 10:09:57 pm »
Peasant farmers travelling to Vehl for the markets are sadly discussing a recent grisly discovery.

The farm of one of their elven neighbors from the foothills of the Brechs was found burnt to the ground.   The family dog, know to be quite protective was found decayed but with it's throat slit.

The family which included two young children are believed to have perished in the blaze.

The incident was reported to the Temple of Rofirein for investigation.

There are whispers of blame in several directions.  Mentioned are the ever increasing dark elven raids in the area as well as talk of a Lucindite plot of being in league with them.

Rumour Has It / Village Slaughtered
« on: January 19, 2009, 11:27:51 am »
Reports filter in from the outskirts of the Gloom Wood toward Vehl and other communities in the area and then to other centers from there via merchant gossip.

An entire settlement along the banks of the Morning River was found slain.  The grisly sight was discovered by a traveling tinker.  The homes were standing but all the villagers appeared to have been rounded up and slaughtered in the village square.  Anything of possible value was gone, as were the livestock.  There were some signs of defense by the locals but it obviously was not enough.  No definitive evidence of the attackers was found, but one dagger of the type used by Dark elves was found embedded in the spine of an elf male.

Curiously two villagers were unaccounted for in the carnage.  An elven woman of near term pregancy and one of the village guards, a human male.

Rumour Has It / Posted outside the LLast Temple and other Toran shrines.
« on: December 01, 2008, 01:41:01 am »
Sirs

It has come to my attention that the temple and faith of Toran have entered into the business of keeping dark elven servants. I, my family, and friends refuse to enter a temple upon which such a debauchery has taken place. Dark elves are the most vile creatures to set foot in Toran's light and should be hunted and expunged with the same tenacity that good Toranites seek to vanquish the undead. It is only after their numbers have been virtually extincted that one might hope to cultivate one or two with traits such worthy of Toran's teachings.

The simple act of desensitizing the surface population to their vileness by sending us their culls or spies is likely part of some grand invasion scheme. People should be reminded of their evil tendencies daily and keep their guard up lest some town suffer as Hlint, Spellgard , Port Hempstead or countless other towns have suffered.

I petition that this Dark Elf be put to death immediately or if it must be toted around it be as a reminder to people as what they look like and how they sound and act so any others be killed on sight. It is not worthy to receive Toran's teaching and many others feel such as I do. Make an example of it if you must, but treat it as the animal it is. I refuse to worship or support any temple it sets foot in.

Rumour Has It / Thorn River Adventure
« on: November 27, 2008, 04:21:03 pm »
**posted in areas where adventuring sorts mingle**

Looking for a few people to aid in my exploration of some catecombs.

Due to their historical, nature traps are to be expected. I will need a few strong fighters as well as one versed in traps and locks. A healer that follows a god or goddess that is not a prude would be welcome. There is the distinct possibility of finding restless souls trapped in the tunnels. Also to be expected is the unexpected.

Please assemble with the necessary provisions and gear at Thorn River, Alindor, Mulnari, Seplar 23. Any treasure found will be divided equally among those staying for the full trip. I will have first claim on any magical artifacts found.

Dwarves need not apply unless exceptionally well perfumed and bathed.

Any found to be Dark elven will be bound and whipped before handed over to the appropriate authority.

 *signed*

 Sophia.

// This is a level 10+ adventure and likely better suited to levels 14-20.

Starts 8pm Fri Nov 28 EST (5pm PST, 1am GMT, Noon Sat Nov 29 AEST)unless not enough people show then it will be moved to another date.

General Discussion / 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month
« on: November 11, 2008, 12:40:59 am »
That time again:

 A Pittance of Time

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
 In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
 In Flanders fields.

Rumour Has It / The skies.
« on: September 22, 2008, 10:39:56 am »
As the smoke and debris settles over the battlefields of Belinara, the sun sets and the clouds part to reveal the bevy of stars in the skies.

All is not as it was.

Faintly in the background there is a new light in the heavens. It is not a constellation but a faint trail of light.

Those with bent backs and grey hair whisper of the return of some sort. A light not seen in many human generations and thought only to be a tale of sailors and dreamers.
