Today we have a Neverwinter Nights module in the spotlight created by Layonara Project Team. Titled Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial, Layonara Online is a PW using the NWN engine, and over the past year the Layonara Project Team have been working on a single player module which has now been released. Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial, is a massive 26+ hours long single player/multiplayer module that is based within Layonara, and on their last online campaign. Layonara Online PW has long been known as one of the very top persistent worlds within the NWN gaming community. A world that evolves, a world where player characters live and breath, not the people behind those PCs. They have brought to us the Dragon's Whisper Magazine, been published in the Bioware Wednesday and the UK PC Gamers magazine. Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial  Xora's Vial gives you the chance to take part in the main Layonara plot leading up to the defeat of Sinthar Bloodstone as you take on the role of an adventurer of moderate skill thrust into circumstances that influence the course of history.   This story was behind the scenes of the main story of Soul of a Lost Ancient as run in the PW, and while it is closely linked it does not require any knowledge of Soul of a Lost Ancient, though those that do will be able to see how the story is part of a much larger picture.  There are several outcomes to Xora's Vial and if you dig deep enough in the legends of Layonara you can find the ripples of each outcome.  Download from this thread: http://www.layonaraonline.com/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=34531   There are two days left before this FINAL round of testing is over and the module is packaged for release. At this point the module is completely playable as far as I know, but we need to be very sure of that.   I need several more people to grab it and just play it. [SIZE=13]While the servers are down (see this,) you are free to play (and help test) the current beta  of Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial.  It's fun and you might learn something about Layonara that you didn't know! Maybe even a lot of things. I am happy to announce that Boxcar is taking over my role as leader of the LORE team.

Here's to the successful continuation of the LORE team's mission of being an incredibly up to date one stop source for information about the World of Layonara and NWN as pertains to Layonara.

Please direct all your LORE related questions to Boxcar (although he's more than welcome to ask me if he doesn't know the answer to a specific question, but he probably does.)

The Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial community beta test ends February 1st.

I NEED several testers to make it through the end of the game as soon as possible. Throw thoroughness to the wind and get to the end.

The plot MUST be tested before the release date.

All but the most horrendous typo and other minor reports will be ignored starting now.

If you're tracking bugs somewhere other than on the forums please post them asap.


Most likely there will NOT be another beta release, so this is it folks. There are some incredibly exciting things coming in the future that the SP team needs to move on to that we can't put off any longer.

Helping test this module is helping us get to those exciting things for the PW.

Diligent testers will be rewarded once the module is released. Naughty children will receive lumps of coal.

General Discussion / Away for two weeks

I'm going to be away for the next two weeks.

I've given DMOE permission to use the cattle prod on people to get some more LSPM testers until I get back. But seriously, it's almost done. We need to get it done so key personnel can move onto V3 building and other projects and the big hold up right now is a lack of serious testers. We have and have had some very good ones but not nearly enough.

If you want to do something to help the v3 roll out be a bit sooner, help test this and let's get it off our plates.

The continuation I was going to run would have been really long and I didn't get my planning session in due to being on a quest hehe. So, sorry to those who were on the first bit and are being put off (theres only 3 of you ;p) I'll get to that quest when I can get my planning in and have a good chunk of attention span ready.

I'll announce the starting location IG a couple minutes before the start of the quest.

Start on west server.

Towers of Dregar: Xora's Vial is a single player module for NWN set in Layonara, more specifically, on Dregar.

We are opening the beta test of the module to the Layonara community. This is your chance to help the Layonara grow and broaden its scope as a fantasy setting.

The question I anticipate everyone asking at this point is:

"Why a Single Player Module of Layonara?"

"The simple reason is to build the community. One of the most important parts of Layonara is its community. In PW’s the community tends to come and go with various other software releases and while people deal with RL. Being that NwN is limited for PW’s, however good of a system it may be, we need to try and attract a wider audience. Single Player modules are great for that and they will get the word of mouth out there a little more than a select PW community is able to do. This will hopefully get more people interested in Layonara as new people learn about it and in turn build the community so that the players have more people to play with in the PW, now and in the future. A thing to remember is that Layonara has been here for over four years and as such thousands have come and gone, we need to get others to know/learn about Layonara so that the community stays active for the players still enjoying Layonara."

The forums with all the information and files to start the beta test will become visible to all members of the Layonara community in a few hours. Beta testing is more work than simply playing through a game and I recommend that those that just want to play the module and are not interested in helping test wait until the final version is released to do so as the experience will be more free of bugs and relaxing than the playing the beta. The beta test is a testing phase, not a final product.

That said, I invite everyone who is interested in testing the module to feel free to do so, whether you are able to perform extensive testing or just a few things. We do need a good number of people willing to play through the whole module or at least much of it and provide input on overall balance (challenge of encounters vs xp and gold/items earned over time) and overall plot flow and continuity.

Being a tester (especially one of those that is able to play through the whole module and give good input on key subjects) means that you will have input on the final version of the module. Testers will also, to a limited extent, be able to submit fixes to content and create content that may be found to be missing or not fully adequate currently. Tester submissions are not guaranteed to be used in the final version but if they are well done, fit a need, and are appropriate for use will likely appear in the final product. All materials submitted and used in this fashion will be credited to the tester who submits them.
