We wanted to start it, oh, a month earlier, but alas, vacations and work and that thing called life has somewhat slowed us down. But never fear! The series is on the calendar now! The show starts February 14th, though we'll be dropping some lines in the rumor thread before that to get the juices flowing.

Questions? Comments? Feel free to drop some here. We'll also be starting a long running series forum a little closer to the actual start of it all. In the meantime, I've got a bit more paperwork to do....

Rumour Has It / From the Taur'en Hills...
« on: November 03, 2011, 12:48:43 pm »
... news of the latest and boldest move by the kingdom of Sagewald to force Taur'en to relinquish its hold on parts of the mineral-rich Hills circulates among the port cities and the royal courts of other Alindoran Kingdoms. A large Sagewald army set up camp half a day's ride north of Fort Angle, well inside Taur'en territory, as if daring the Taur'en military and the commanders of Fort Angle to attack.

Messenger birds went tearing off toward Castle Bydell, and within a day troops were marching from Bydell toward Fort Angle and a small cabal of Taur'en wizards teleported directly to the Fort. The Fort commanders prepared for an attack, but none came. After a few days, the Taur'en commanders sent a messenger to the Sagewald camp carrying a letter explaining that the army was on Taur'en soil and must return to Sagewald immediately. The messenger returned to Fort Angle, strapped to his horse and missing his head, the letter stuffed where his head should have been. Angered, the Fort commanders decided to wait until the reinforcements from Bydell to arrive, then to attack the sitting Sagewald army from two sides and send it packing back across the border. In the meantime, the Sagewald troops remained camped at the position to the north, harassing anyone that moved too close to their camp. This all occurred over the course of several weeks, from the time the Sagewald army was discovered to the time the Bydell reinforcement troops arrived and the Taur'en army was assembled outside the Fort.

The day before Taur'en planned to attack the Sagewald intruders, a scout arrived from the southeast of the Fort. The scout was injured and visibly exhausted, a mercenary unknown to those parts. The scout warned of a Sagewald force on horseback that had hidden itself in the hills and forests to the southeast. Realizing that was Sagewald's plan all along, to lure the bulk of the Taur'en forces out of the Fort into an engagement with the northern camp while the cavalry to the southeast swooped in to either flank the Taur'en forces or assault the thinly-manned fort, the Fort Angle commanders ordered half the assembled troops to turn and engage the smaller cavalry force to the southeast, while moving the rest of the troops and supplies back inside the Fort.

The larger Taur'en force easily routed the hidden cavalry unit without much of a fight. The Sagewald cavalry had apparently begun cutting down trees, leaving the early makings of siege weaponry and hook-ladders strewn about the forest floor when they scattered in retreat.

A few days later, the Sagewald camp north of the Fort packed up and made its way back toward the Sagewald-Taur'en border. The precarious stalemate between the two kingdoms continues.

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / The Leringard Arms Presents:
« on: June 20, 2011, 01:28:53 pm »
For the first time ever...
The Legendary Leringard Arms will host...

The Leringard Live Auction.

This is your chance to dig out your old gear, artwork, and stuffed animals with a story to see if you can 'con' your rich and not-so-rich friends into paying you something for it. Auction items can be submitted on behalf of an organization, a charity, a person, or anonymously. Simply notify the Arms of what you want auctioned, any information about the items, and for what/whom the items are being auctioned.

Note: The Arms is happy to help you auction all legal and non-living items. Please do not attempt to auction your mother-in-law or your newly acquired illithid slave from the Deep.

The auction will take place on Threas, Augra 19 of the year 1483.

Drinks are free (until we run out), and food is available at reasonable prices.

///// This is set for this coming Saturday, I'm thinking from around 1pm EDT to 5pm EDT. This is a come and go event, and I plan to have both high-end items as well as goodies that will start at auction for a single True (and I fully expect the fiercest competition for such items ;) ). Please feel free to submit both mechanically useful items and RP items for auction (I.E. you could auction a painting or historical trinket - the better story associated with the item, the more True it will likely be worth). /////

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Camped at the edge of a crater...

Several begin their journeys home, or to Hilm, or perhaps to Westgate. Others still have duties to perform.

General Discussion / Short Notice Adventure Poster
« on: April 04, 2011, 04:31:18 pm »
I'm up for adventure this evening, around 7pm EDT (11pm GMT). I don't really care what level the adventure/location is aimed at, so an adventure for 5th level characters works just as well as a 35th level adventure in my case. Steel will make sure the adventure is challenging regardless. **grins wickedly**

I have a few places in mind, and I know you were looking to visit some places you've never been, Tobias.

I think we'll start out at the Leringard Arms, have some drinks and then head out from there. As for RP, it's pure adventure/exploring- PCs trying to make their fortune and earn their glory off the backs of monsters and old ruins- and any reason your own character would have visiting the place that's chosen to visit (i.e. if we go to the Moss Crypt, maybe your Aeridinite character isn't interested in plundering ruins, but he is interested in melting some undead with divine wrath). Please consider the timeline as not interfering with anything happening in the world plot (The Dragonstorm Campaign).

Rumour Has It / The Hit.
« on: March 03, 2011, 05:05:04 pm »
Sederan refugees pour into the bordering kingdoms. Tales of death, dragons, and lost loved ones fill the eyes and roll off the tongues of the scattered desert people. Each story is more devastating than the last. Some question the truth of the stories, but then, the refugees just keep pouring in and officials don't seem to be taking the situation lightly. Troops from around the world shuffle around villages that have never seen a real army, not even in the days of Bloodstone. That something is happening cannot be denied.

The refugees' stories of loss spread like wildfire, the latest gossip in those places untouched by the GDC, fuel to the fire of those that are. Amidst the stories, the gossip, the tales of people swallowed whole by dragons, a song is heard, cropping up in as many taverns across the world as the rumors bleeding out of Sedera and Hilm and Nesar. The song has been heard before, but when it first appeared, the war had only barely begun, the atrocities not yet real. But now people take notice, the melody as subtly haunting as the words. Now the refugees carry the song like a banner, singing themselves to sleep with it.

It is a song of the massacre, and the wanton taking of life is so heavily laid upon the listener as to cause a discomfort, a desire to bring an end to the source of the slaughter. Despite this, the request for the song grows, and it has of late become a regular sound at the end of the day.

Various musicians and bardic talents take credit for the material, but a few admit that they learned the song from a worn bard called Willie.

"Say, Petey, you hear that new song Ugly Bart's been singing down in Hurm?"

"That the one all sad-like, bleeding and fading and whatnot?"

"Aye, that's the one. You hear what that song is supposed to be about?"

"Well, no, but I imagine you're about to tell me, eh?"

"Pits, Petey. Now I ain't, not if you don't want to hear it."

"Bah, you old fart. Don't be like that, Jake. I want to hear it, okay?"

"That's what I thought. So there's this Cult with dragons and dragon-men, and-"

"The song mentions both a Cult and dragons. I thought you were going to tell me something about the song I didn't know."

"Gods blast it! If you already got it all figured out, why am I even talkin' to ye? Ye cut me off. I was prefacing."

"Alright, alright, my fault. Go on."

"Right, where was I?"

"Dragons?"

"Dragons! I heard that the song was first sung by a fellow who survived one of them dragon attacks we always hear about out of Sedera. He was havin' this concert in the oasis, and them dragon-people came in and killed everybody! Women, children, too. Bart says he could see it in the eyes of the man taught him the song. Real visions of death."

"Uh-huh."

"No lie! A real eye-witness to a dragon massacre."

"If it was a massacre, how is it he survived?"

"I dunno! Maybe he's one of them stonebound."

"Or maybe it was all made up. They're called 'storytellers' for a reason."

"Well ain't you just the cynic of all cynics. You gonna tell me all them things we hearing about from Sedera and Boyer and Sucession- all sides- be just made up?"

"I'm sure some are true, and I'm sure there are many an entertainer looking to make a coin or two off the plight of dead men."

"Bah, you got no faith, Petey. None at all. Bart told me this fellow was willing to pay Bart to teach the song, not the other way around. Bart said that after hearing the song, the truly haunting melody, he just couldn't take the poor man's money."

"It is well written, I'll say that much. I just don't like all this talk of doom and gloom. Are things really that bad?"

"Maybe not for you and me, what with the likes of the Sabre and Morgensen and Red Bear around, but I tell ye, if the stories are true, them Cultists don't care who ye are or what yer doing. We could be sitting here drinking a pint and them dragons just swoop in and make us crispies for the fun of it, I tell ye. I don't know about you, Petey, but that song makes me want to pick up an axe and have a go at the rotten creatures what done such a thing and would do such a thing to any old person just having themselves a normal day."

Rumour Has It / Tavern Talk and Bench-warming Conversations in Trelania
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:03:55 am »
Buntue, Frillon, and Jeebuz relax at their favorite watering hole, doing what people do when there is ale and time to kill.

"But I just don't get it, Frillon. Aren't those dragon-men-things from Kuhl?"

"That's what they say."

"I hear they got real forked tongues and wings and everything! What do they call 'em again? Dragos?"

"Drachs. They call 'em drachs."

"Yeeeah.... wooowee! Would I like to see one up close, by Allurial."

"Who cares what they're called! They attacked Hlint! I have a cousin lives there, and I don't even know if he's dead or alive."

"The Queen's army fought off the invaders, and are making sure Hlint has enough food and shelter and protection. Your cousin's fine. He wasn't in the militia anyway."

"Hee hee! That's for sure. Your cousin couldn't fight his way out of a haystack. He can sure put down the pie, though, har!"

"Shut up, Jeebuz. Look, I just don't get it. Aren't we supposed to, you know, declare war on things that attack us? This is the second time we've been attacked by the drag... er, the drach-things. The second time!

"Declare war? Think about what you're saying, Buntue. Do you want to go fight those things?"

"Well, no. But that's what we have an army for, right? You'd think after two times of being attacked the Queen would have something to say about it. It's like we're just sitting ducks waiting to be attacked again."

"And what happens if the army isn't big enough? They're going to draft, Buntue. Make regular folk like us become fodder to protect the real soldiers."

"At least we'd have a better chance to live with some training and real weapons. If the Kuhlites attacked us right now, we wouldn't stand a chance. Shouldn't the Queen at least declare them as enemies or something? I just don't see how she's doing a blooming thing to stop these drach-things from coming back and killing Trelanians. This is worse than the Blood War!"

"Are you nuts? This is not worse than the Blood War. Lost half my family in the Blood War. Eaten by demons, I tell you."

"Hehehehehe.... he said worse than the Blood War.... hehehehe....."

"Shut up, Jeebuz. Look, I'm sorry about your family, Frillon, but that means you should know how I feel. We have to do something. And if our own Queen won't declare war on the... the... things... killing her people, killing us, then who will?"
