You can buy houses by going into the real estate stores scattered around the different cities. They don't come cheap though, and there are very few houses left available as far as I can tell.

I love RPing the scottish accent for Dwarves, although I've adapted mine to be a bit more westcountry (easy because I live here) than some of the other Dwarves as well.

I think the biggest thing to remember with the accents is consistency. Make sure you spell the same words in the same way every time you type them and eventually it comes quite naturally. As long as you do this you will end up with your own unique accent which will distinguish your character from all the others, even ones who have a similar accent. Again, look at the Dwarf community: there are a good number of us but we all have our own take on it.

You can also build on your accent as you go along and get more confident with it. I did this with Kurgaz; as he became more immersed with characters with a different accent I started making him "learn" new words which he never used before. I doubt anybody else ever noticed this, but it's something I like to do anyway.

The only downside I've noticed is that they can be quite hard to understand from the perspective of platers who are talking to you and have never met your character before. The method I always use to try and make it easier is to put apostrophes where the missing letters are instead of just dropping the letters entirely. I find that makes it a lot easier to read, especially at speed, or when there is a large amount to be taken it at once.

General Discussion / Re: Character description
« on: January 13, 2007, 09:45:43 am »
If you didn't change it when you created your character you will have the generic description depending on your basic race (Dwarf/elf/human etc).

I'm not sure, but I don't think it's possivle to change it once you've started playing. I seem to remember somebody asked the same question a while ago.

I have to give credit to you PnP, you are doing a really great job with this, it's very immersive. The dwarven community is something I've been hoping to see ever since I started playing Kurgaz. I'm glad someone has finally been able to make it happen, and I hope it continues for a long time. :)

I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean you can't go to his page (Should be http://nwn.layonara.com/Kurgaz%20Ulfson ), then it's a problem on your end, as I can see it fine. (Let's hear it for Dwarven Defenders!)

That's fine. I can view the page, but couldn't find his name in the PCs listings, and was worrying that it might affect people sending me falcons and the like. It all seems to be fine though, so there's no crisis.

Welcome back! Where could I find a copy of your work? I'd be willing to pay. I'm a reader who needs something new to read.

Nothing is public yet. I'll be sending out my novel manuscript in February, and short stories shortly after that. When something becomes available, I will be sure to shamelessly plug in your direction ;) It's horror fiction though: not everyone's cup of tea.

To everyone else: thanks for the replies. I will look forward to seeing you all in game again soon.

*tacks another notice beneath Zug's*

Aye, Meself and Cadet Xandrian have spoken together and direct conflict is nay the way forward at this time. I feel I speak for the both of us when I say that the remainder of the Pranzis Army Officers Corps will nay take part, nay support any direct action or assault against the city of Pranzis, or Broegar at this time, it will result only in more needless suffering, death, and may provoke the Dwarf into retaliation which we are not equipped to deal with.

Right now our focus must be on consolidating what we have, and helping those that need it, and as long as this remains a rescue mission and nay an assault ye will have our support in the field.

Just for Fun / Re: What D&D Character are you?
« on: June 27, 2006, 05:36:56 pm »
You Are A:

Chaotic Evil Elf Fighter Ranger
Follower Of Talos

Alignment:
Chaotic Evil characters are the most 'evil' people out there. They are willing to do anything to get ahead, and will kill anyone who stands in their way. A chaotic evil person sees no value in order and governments, and believes to the utmost in the tenant that 'Might Makes Right'.

Race:
Elves are the eldest of all races, although they are generally a bit smaller than humans. They are generally well-cultured, artistic, easy-going, and because of their long lives, unconcerned with day-to-day activities that other races frequently concern themselves with. Elves are, effectively, immortal, although they can be killed. After a thousand years or so, they simply pass on to the next plane of existance.

Primary Class:
Fighters are the warriors. They use weapons to accomplish their goals. This isn't to say that they aren't intelligent, but that they do, in fact, believe that violence is frequently the answer.

Secondary Class:
Rangers are the defenders of nature and the elements. They are in tune with the Earth, and work to keep it safe and healthy.

Deity:
Talos is the Chaotic Evil god of storms, forest fires, earthquakes, tornadoes, and destruction in general. He is also known as the Destroyer. His followers fear him more than worship him, and they revel in the destructive fury of nature - while praying to be spared from its wrath. Talos's symbol is three lightning bolts, of different colors, coming from a central point.

I'd go for the darts with most characters, though Kurgaz would use the axes.

Not that Kurgaz uses ranged weapons like a pansy, you understand ;)

General Discussion / RE: Class Discussion
« on: June 27, 2006, 07:44:02 am »
I'm only going to make my post on this brief and to the point.

This discussion came up on IRC last night, but the point I was trying to make seemed to get ignored and the conversation went off onto one about unbalanced classes and casters vs fighters, etc. At the time I said that I thought the idea of caster restrictions was brought up because in fantasy there are traditionally a sparse amount of those characters in comparison to everyone else. This viewpoint was dismissed as "naive" but I still stand by it. I don't care much for the conversation of balancing, or whether certain builds can solo better than others, yes there has to be as much balancing as possible, but really I'm not that bothered. If somebody wants to rush around by themself and own every dungeon by themself then that's their choice, I have never and will never choose a class or character to play based on their strength or weakness at soloing.

In short, I think all classes have their advantages and disadvantages, and because of these certain classes will always be more popular than others, that is inevitable. But from my own point of view, the only reason I would support any kind of numbers restriction is simply based on an aesthetic. As I said in the other thread, I did a check at the time and 25 of 47 characters online we casters. This means that in a low-magic world, around half of the characters are still wizards of some description (please note that this isn't a complaint, merely an observation).

That is the only reason I would support any kind of restriction on classes, for what are essential RP reasons, because the way I can see it DnD will always be unbalanced to a point, wizards and clerics will always be able to achieve things that fighters can't, and vice versa, but does any of that really matter? I don't think the strength differences between the classes are that huge, simply different, and as long as certain classes don't start dominating every aspect of the game (which we all know will never be allowed to happen) I'm not sure the caster classes need to be altered any more than they already have been. :)

I, like Xandrian, will also join ye. I was hoping to go to the area meself and try to find any survivors from the Pranzis army, especially officers. Even if we find nay, we must know so that we can rebuild the army with what we have.

I will of course help ye and any others that be looking to find or evacuate any relatives or friends from the area.

Cadet Kurgaz Ulfson, Defender of Vorax.

PS - Cadet Xandrian, I am pleased to know that ye survived the battle and did nay fall, I feared I was the only one left from the corps.

I believe since drow society revolves so closely around their religion and so many drow strive to be clerics of their deitys (and the fact that there are very few of them) would actually make them one of the more "open" religions.

That's true, but would there need to be that many of those clerics sent to the surface at any one time? Unless it's an invasion situation (which obviously wouldn't be played by PCs) I don't imagine there would be a need for a great number of Ca'duz clerics to be above the surface.

I think that would be more of a reason for restricting them, though like I said before, there aren't enough applications for those anyway for it to become much of an issue. Including yourself I still only know two of us who have played them for any amount of time in the last 18months or so, but I could be wrong?

I think that could be an idea to be honest, to restrict the caster numbers in some way. I just checked the server status, and on all three servers there are currently 47 players, 25 of those are wizards/sorcerors/clerics with most of them being the latter two.

Maybe there shouldn't be an upper limit on the amount of casters approved, but I think the idea of limiting them in the same way as racial restrictions could be a good idea, or possibly worked out in a ratio of casters vs other classes (I say "other classes" rather than fighters because that would ensure that the caster numbers would remain higher than they would if it was casters vs fighters).

Clerics could be different again, maybe with numbers restricting the amount of Clerics PCs that can be approved for anyone religion at a time, with those numbers varying depending on the deities. Obviously deities such as Lucinda and Toran may have a good number, whereas more "underground" clergies such as Corath or Baraeon Ca'Duz could be limited to less than a handful. Though that may not be a neccessary enforcement, I only know one person to ever play a Cleric of Ca'duz (that was me) and Corath clerics are restricted due to the alignment thing anyway. Maybe the cleric numbers could somehow be affected by the temple donations even, which would be another incentive for people to keep their donations coming in.

Just a thought though :)

« on: June 20, 2006, 07:55:46 am »

The tide of war rises, and once again the call to arms has been made, and once again I will lend me axe and me life to ye. However, I will nay able to fight by your side this time.

Whilst ye are assaultin' bloods demonic forces and taking the fight to them, as only ye can, I will be fighting a defensive battle on Dregar. I have been called by the Pranzis army, and as an officer I must go there to defend the people of Pranzis and Lorindar that can nay protect themselves.

Good luck to ye me brothers, and me friends, all ye that be reading now. May Vorax strengthen your hearts and sharpen your blades in the coming battles. We shall nay let them take our lands!

Kobal, if I be surviving the war, I will see ye on the other side, and once again I will stand by yer side as we deal with the aftermath. If I be slain, I will be reunited with me lost friends, and I will watch over ye always.

Farewell me friend.
Kurgaz.
