General Discussion / Need to ask this
« on: August 02, 2005, 04:12:00 pm »
I don't want to nag, but if I don't ask it I don't think I ever dare to enter the nameless dungeon again.

So here I go. ;)

Today Taislin Woolhands organized an expedition in the nameless dungeon near Haven. Our first venture with relative lowlevels went very well, untill some people had to leave after which we couldn't continue and had to go back.

While the others went back my PC, Daeron stayed to explore the deeper levels of the dungeon to see what there was to find. When he returned he foudn the rest of the party still struggling to leave the upper level and he encountered creatures that hadn't been spawned before and much more than first.

This was the first point where I thought we got a little bit of good old DM attention.

A bit later we returned with a much larger and slightly higher leveled party.

Before I continue I must state that I think I don't die often, Daeron still having zero DT's.

But anyway, at the second venture, I couldn't help but notice the effectiveness of the creatures. My question is whether this was due to bad party tactics or a little bit of DM-guided carnage. At one point we were hit by a Xorn earthquake while as far as I know, nobody ever saw the Xorn. Apparently he did see us.

Really, I never died so often (3 time within 10 minutes, ouch, 32000 xp), the dungeoninhabiting Xorns being an important factor to that development.

So, I was still having a good time, but I just want to know if we as a party were fighting worse, or if a DM was helping the creatures a bit?

PS: I hope I'm not sounding to paranoid in this post

Wild Surge Inn / Spotted mushrooms
« on: July 21, 2005, 03:01:00 pm »
*A note hangs on the wall*

To anyone who knows of places where spotted mushrooms grow.

I, Daeron Stormcloud, offer a bronze ring inlaid with malachite to the first who offers me information about the places these mushrooms grow.

Roleplaying / Using dice for PvP friendly behaviour
« on: July 21, 2005, 04:53:00 am »
I have a question about how to use rolls in behaviour like pushing. I think Polak already mentioned it in the grievingsection and I agree that it's unfair that a player can just type *trips XYZ so that he falls in a puddle* or *spits on drow*.

I was wondering what kind of dice you should use to actually achieve the trip.

For instance must the one who is tripping the other roll his strength skill, which determines DC, after which the one tripped must roll his dexterity skill, determining whether he actually gets tripped.

The outcome would then much more resemble the characters builds and be much fairer.

I direct you to this article so that you can see what I am talking about. Note where the Geforce 4 Ti appears compared to where the 9800XT appears and the 9600. The Geforce 4 Ti is a generation before the 9600 and 9800.

Always new my videocard sucked big time, but I never imagined it to be this bad compared to others. Click the link and yes, I have the Radeon 9200 SE. :(

I'm really starting to wondering what I'm missing out concerning graphics. Is there anyone who has played NWN with 9200 SE and a better card?

« on: July 12, 2005, 01:09:00 pm »
Reboot, so I thought I'd post something on the forum. I think this prestige class is very interesting to be played on Layonara, since its history with dragons. And it's another good prestige class for bards.

The dragonsong lyrist taps into the power of dragonsong, an ancient form of performance that originated among the draconic races, to create strange and wondrous magical effects.

- Hit Die: d6.
- Proficiencies: None.
- Skill Points: 4 + Int Modifier.

REQUIREMENTS:

Alignment: Non-Evil.
Skills: Concentration 5, Lore 5, Persuade 5, Perform 10.
Feats: Dragonsong.

ABILITIES:

1: Greater Dragonsong: (song of strength) +4 Str
2: Greater Dragonsong: (song of compulsion) charm monsters

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Revised mage armor
« on: July 11, 2005, 09:41:00 am »
If I'm not mistaken the spell mage armor in Layo gives an bonus of 1 to armor-, 1 to dodge-, 1 to deflection- and 1 to shieldbonus.

I'd like to suggest to change that to +4 armor bonus. I think it makes much more sense then the version being used. The only bonus that stacks is dodge and this is where I wonder why one gets a bonus to dodging because of a spell like mage armor.

Mages have been powered down a lot in Layo. Especially the lewlevel ones. I think that this change at least makes it a bit easier for the lowlevel mages.

Journal

It has been a week since I entered this world using the last charge of Arto's magic item. So far the people have been very friendly, although many of them are very peculiar indeed. It feels good to be in the company of humans again. My decade of exile has left my skills in, as they call it, "light talk" a little hampered.

It feels good though, to finally be able to use my magic in an offensive manner instead of using it to keep me save and away from monsters. I do have trouble however to put it to good use when fighting along with the many fighters that live in Hlint. They show a great understanding of battletactics, something I'm yet not very familiar with.

I met some interesting people already. The most peculiar one was a goblin, some of them appear to be tolerated by the townfolk. His name is Vorkresh and was quite interested in magic. I don't know whether the goblin will ever succeed in mastering magic, but he does appear to be smarter then most of his kind.He also made quite a charming travelcompanion. Is disturbs me somewhat that after a decade I find it easier to make contact with a goblin then with a human. I don't know whether this is something I'll have to accept for what it is or something that will pass in time.

The only humans I made a little contact with are a rogue, named Ra'vair and a man called Anault. Anault strikes me as an odd fellow, he refuses to remove his helmet so I'm not sure what he really is. He does seem to combine the art of magic with the art of the sword, a very talented man indeed. I hope to explore some of the region in the future. Untill now my only venture out of the town has been in the goblincave.

I know one thing for sure, I cannot survive in the wild without help, so I shall have to accept it whenever it is offered.
