General Discussion / Layonara 3.2 Is Coming Soon!
« on: April 01, 2009, 01:38:13 pm »
No Fooling!

You folks won't believe the load of changes we've packed into this update.  Many suggestions were implemented, many annoyances corrected and a boat load of new functionality was tossed in.  Combine that with the sweet new areas built by Chongo and you're all in for a big treat!

Our scheduled release is pending some playtesting but we're targeting the weekend.  Maybe as early as the quiet hours of Saturday morning, but no guarantees. :)

More then your game experience, your community experience is going through a bit of an overhaul as well.  I eluded to this in an earlier post but we felt most of the policy, procedure and rule changes are now all intertwined, so to release partial changes would have been confusing without the full picture.

Stay tuned for a few teasers and added details!

Roleplaying / Please don't make an Ox of it
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:15:05 am »
We have natty costume changes, personalised weapons, flags, banners, cloaks of distinction. We all love these and we readily sign up to all these aspects of RP and immersive features.

So can we show some restraint and keep the oxen out of the houses, Inns, banks, and crafting buildings. It makes the rest of the things above worth a little more.

 Thanks for your consideration.

General Discussion / lore vs LORE
« on: March 22, 2009, 09:43:28 am »
I've seen some mixing up of the word 'lore' and the abbreviation 'LORE', so I thought I'd try and clear that up.

Here we go.

lore: That which is or may be learned or known; the knowledge gained from tradition, books, or experience; often, the whole body of knowledge possessed by a people or class of people, or pertaining to a particular subject; as, the lore of the Egyptians; priestly lore; legal lore; folklore. "The lore of war." So in our case, the lore of Layonara.

LORE: Layonara Official Reference Encyclopedia, our online wiki-like system that contains part of the lore.

So for example, character bios are reviewed against lore, not necessarily against LORE.

Hope that clarifies!

Ed

General Discussion / Hey all
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:38:28 pm »
I want to apologize to everyone for suddenly disappearing, to the players, the GM team and Harlas especially, who put more faith in me than I probably deserved. :)

I don't want to get into details, but I went through a rough period and I felt it would be easier to handle it without Layo, instead of feeling stretched in life by obligations, if that makes any sense. It wasn't planned, or I would have let you all know that I'd be gone for a while, it just happened.

Anyway, apart from a little recent skiing injury (last day injury of course..) I'm quite all right now. And thanks to the people who missed me, I missed you too!

I don't know if I'm still going to be very active here. Hardragh and Daeron might show their face occasionally at any rate. I do so very much miss the insane schemes of the first. So I'll see what happens.

Anyway, good to be back-ish and maybe see you all ingame at some point.

Layonara Server / Dwarf in danger
« on: March 09, 2009, 09:43:08 pm »
Hi there.

During a trip to the forest of Fog. we had been experiencing some lags spikes that might have made Chazzler character ( uther hardhammer ) to crash in the middle of the battle,

We are waiting for him to see if he comes back and we will be waiting for about 10 mins more.

Chazzler if you see this please send us a tell to be able to help you get out there. If not we would thank  if a GM could help him to get out there unharmed once he can go back..

Thank you in advance.

This ocurred at 9;30 EDT on 09/03/09.

Thanks in advance.

Layonara Server / Thank you for your continued support.
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:04:28 pm »
I just wanted to take the time out to thank everyone for their help with the server fees.  When I set up the donation tracker I was honestly not sure how well it was going to fare but every month the support is continually met, and typically within the first week of the month.

I said at the time of setting up the donation tracker that the server was staying up regardless of financial support from the community, but any and all help is always welcome.  It was asked to provide some assurance to the lifespan of the NWN world as a respectful thank you for the donations provided and while I can't foresee the future I just wanted to reassure everyone we have no plans of putting the brakes on NWN.

As a matter of fact there are quite a few things in the works with the major plot and side quests which will be realized through NWN. Chongo, with some help from Script Wrecked has been continually trying to expand and freshen up the modules to add some spice for our existing community and new opportunities for our new users.

There's not a day that goes by where members of the Layonara Studios board don't talk about something NWN related.  While yes, our central focus is on the next generation, we cherish our roots and love that there are still the remaining users who hold Layonara's fantasy close to their hearts.

NWN Layonara is certainly not perfect.  I appreciate everyone's acceptance of the limitation of the teams and your ability to shrug off some of the issues that arise.  We are trying to spread ourselves as best as we can to secure an entertaining and lasting future and still have an enjoyable break from some of the grinds of the present.

Take care and have fun!

General Discussion / Zombie Polymorph Form gets 10/-?
« on: January 28, 2009, 07:14:37 pm »
Hello,

I was in Red Lights Goblin cave as Zombie Polymorph form and was only getting 5/- damage resistance, not like the 10/- that lore or wiki says you get.  I also was getting 5/- damage reduction from Ghostly Visage...So, I took the ghostly off thinking there was some kind of a 10 pt cap, and I still only got 5/- damage resistance.  Please explain how this works..

Ps: I'm an 8th level wizard

General Discussion / For the Second Generation!
« on: January 26, 2009, 08:55:43 am »
Heya folks, I had an idea!  (Some of you might want to run for cover now ;))

Due to an observation from one of our more assute DMs, I thought of an interesting event idea.  A number of us play what was refered to as "a second generation character," meaning the son, daughter, or ward (see: adopted) of a either dead or retired adventurer.  So my idea was, with the consideration of the staff of the Leringard Arms, a story tellers night of sorts for us "kids" to maybe talk about their forebearers(sp?), tell a good story about them, and just RP for a while.  Any one would be welcome to come of course.  I'm sure their are other characters that had/have parents (:P duh) that might be worth talking about.  And then of course any friends of the deceased/retired characters could come to.  Ideally, just a chance to RP and tell some stories.

If anyone is interested in being a part of such an event, or would like to come, post here with what you can do as well as what times and days would be best.  If enough show interest I will work on setting up such an event.  I'd love to be able to put this together.

General Discussion / Completion of House Drawing
« on: January 17, 2009, 08:39:01 pm »
Hi everyone,

Things are mostly okay, at least with me, thanks for those who had concern. I had a friend pop by who needed my full attention regarding some personal issues.

I have several more prizes to give away and I need to change the ownership of the house to Tabris, I'll get to that as soon as I catch my breath a bit.  I may have to continue the rest of the draw tomorrow though, I'm not really in the mood to be Plen right now.

I'll keep you up to date,

Rumour Has It / Praise for the Silverguard
« on: January 06, 2009, 06:58:05 am »
*In taverns throughout the Port of Hempstead steins are lifted to toast the ever efficient Silverguard who protect the fair city and it's inhabitants. Just today saw yet another example of the diligent protection of the populace from near certain crimes-to-be when a squad of stout guards forcibly removed a cross-blooded giantkin from the docks district. Though no weapons were drawn in it's evulsion, more than one guard was seen sporting bruises afterwards as the giant ne'er-do-well refused to leave without "Me Wife"*

General Discussion / A Campaign To Free Up Houses
« on: December 29, 2008, 11:13:34 pm »
This is for everyone who owns a home in game but does not play their character enough to warrant it.

I don't think the build team should be responsible for cleaning up unused homes, or rather I don't think Orth or Dorg should have to spend the time doing a manual DB edit.

A lot of us have old characters with a home.  We don't use the homes, they're just sitting there collecting dust with old junk.

Now, my hope is that my gesture starts a chain from these folks.  You know perfectly well who you are.  There are a lot of newcomers who just haven't had that chance to own a home and try it out.  We had our chance, and if you haven't played your character more then 10 hours in the past two months... I'd call that a pretty good starting sign.

I've been greedy with Ket's home for over a year now.  Time to fess up.

I'm going to put Ketil's back on the market this week.  I hope others follow suit.  (Lillian, I hope you're on board with this.  You may want to clear out your things.  Donate them!)

Rumour Has It / Fort Llast
« on: December 28, 2008, 02:48:01 am »
A old man dressed in common clothing, and a hood pulled slighty over his face, walks around the streets of this great Fort.  A beatuifull halfling women stands beside him, with a halfling child holding her hand.  He seams to be looking at the temple with a half smile.

He stand in quite using what seams to be his last bit of strength holding himself up with the help of his staff.  The staff looks to as worn as he is.  The years have not been kind to him.

He spots a bench and they make there way to it.  He waits to be seated after the lady and the child.  He seats slowly and takes her hand in to his. He smiles to her.

They sit there when the boy jumps down and starts to run and play.  The man and women laugh, smile, and beam with pride of the boy.  People walk past turning there heads to take a second look.  Not becouse of the boy playing.  Not becouse of the human and the halfling holding hands.  It might just because the man might look like someone that they once knew.

The man begins to speek to the women, "My dear time runs short for me, but we always knew this would happen."  She smiles up to him knowing his words were true.  "I can not live forever, or I never wished to, but I will always love you" his voice sounds tired.  He lays his head back on to the build and looks up in to the sky.

She draws close to him.  Holding him in a hug.  Tears falling on her cheeks.  "Dont cry my dear, for my love is never ending" He says softly.  "You, Bery, and Rose have everything I owen in this world.  Rose will contunie to teach you of Toran so we can be together"  He fights back his own tears.

Guards walk up from the temple of Toran, speachless as they relize who the man is.  One stops in his tracks and turn and walks straight back and in to the temple doors.  The other just watchs as the man sitting on the bench looks at him and smiles.  The man on the bench just nods to him and contuines to talk to the women.

"I am so tired, hard to keep my eyes open my love"  he says "I think I will just close them hear and rest for a bit."  "Rest my dear, rest"  She says loving "We will see each other soon."

The women looks to the guard standing there, her eyes filled with tears.  The little boy runs to his mother and she holds him tightly as he beings to cry.  She looks to the guard still standing there just staring at them, the noice for the door of the temple as they open and the guard leading five clerics out catch her attion.

The clerics walk up.  All bowing there heads in the final respect.  The cleric in the frount says in a sadden voice "He has passed on to Torans Hand, and will be in his care."  She looks up to the cleric and nods "he came here for the end, this was always his home, were he grew up, were he learned to live and live well he did."

The cleric pick up his body and start to carry it inside the temple.  "He lived, he loved, he gave everything to Toran" she sayed softly, but raises her voice "HE WILL ALWAYS BE THE HAND!"
