CNR Suggestions/Discussion / List fix needed urgently
« on: March 15, 2007, 04:14:01 am »
The stickied topic "Resource/Enchantment Level/Level Required List" is totally unreadable.  I can't even post in that section.  Those lists are essential to being able to sell and use weapon enhancements.  I wish I had printed them out, but I didn't.  Could someone please fix the posts?

Thanks!

Introduce Yourself / Who's your granny?
« on: March 13, 2007, 09:12:40 am »
Hello, I'm Martha--Granny, bonsai artist, Layo addict.

I think I would be the oldest person playing on Layonara (at 63), except that my husband is even older than I am.  I have two grandchildren whom I also introduced to Layo.  They even play in game with me sometimes.  The third one is still learning her alphabet, but give her a few years and she'll be here.

I have about a hundred bonsai trees in various stages of neglect from playing here too much.  My game name, Serissa, is the name of a small tropical tree with tiny white flowers that is often used for bonsai.  It stinks when you cut it and drops dead if you look at it cross-eyed.  Seems appropriate!

I started reading science fiction in about sixth grade (when I discovered my dad's stash), and discovered fantasy somewhat later when I gulped down LOTR in one looong weekend.  I've been hooked ever since.

I discovered role-playing games when my son was in junior high, becoming DM for him and his friends.  That was when D&D was being touted as dangerous to our youth--a few idiots got hurt acting it out in real life.  He grew up and went on to other things.  (I don't know where I failed him.)  I stayed hooked, playing nearly every computer RP game that came along.  I moved to on-line worlds about five years ago and discovered Layo a couple of years ago.  Haven't gone anywhere else since.

I grew up mostly in Texas, but have also lived in Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana and New Jersey.  I've been living in West Virginia for nearly forty years, and it's the best.  There are woods right outside my back door, but it's only a ten minute walk to the store if I'm really in a hurry.  There are great places for hiking and camping all over the place, and the scenery is wonderful.  I've been to most of our western states and Hawaii, and to Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, England, and even Tahiti, but this is the place I love most (except for Layo, of course).

I love to cook.  I even bake our bread and make my own soup stocks.  The best part is that my husband usually cleans up after me.  I love being retired--the only alarm clock I set is to get up in time for a Layo quest.  Considering all the dumb things I've done, I'm proud to have made it to age 63, and love being the age I am.

I hope to meet you in game and have lots of fun!

General Discussion / Thoughts on the economy
« on: February 16, 2007, 06:07:58 am »
I've noticed an interesting development as the number of active people and crafters climb. Prices of raw materials are going up--with more people collecting, CNR is harder to get, and more people want it. Prices of finished goods are trending downwards as more people make things. This hasn't reached the higher end items, but is definitely a factor in low and even many middlevalue goods.

Wild Surge Inn / Theft report
« on: November 11, 2006, 07:29:41 am »
I'm sorry to report that a winter wolf cloak and a lesser monk's armorwere apparently taken from my sales chest at the Leilon Arms last night. I doubt that the thief is skilled enough to wear them or he would have learned better, so please be alert for a non-tailor trying to sell the items.

Development Journals and Discussion / Ferrit's notes
« on: May 31, 2006, 07:30:51 pm »
I traded 2 cougar bags to Bumblebee for 16 issues of his newsletter. I paid Lia the rent for this month and next month, since she is going on a trip.
I sold Darkchild a cloth hood and a panther cape, and the same to Drogo. I traded a jaguar armor to Elgon Merrick for fire bombs and coal. Hewill need panther armor before too much longer. He already has one of my panther leather capes. Geldar Astendor would be interested in a lion bag.
I gave Jennara 5000 coins, a studded black leather armor and a wolf armor, and 4 loaves of bread, all for the relief of Roldem. I've also given her a worg armor and 7 milks. Kyle has been donating building materials.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / ending Greater Sanctuary

Is there a specific token that can be used to end Greater Sanctuary, or do you have to use the one that eliminates all your magic spells?

Layonara Server / Urgent--all my characters are on, and I'm not
« on: March 17, 2006, 02:36:29 pm »
When I sign on, all my characters--Ayla Bineau, Ferrit Pandorn, and Sala Stonehill--show up as being online. Each is staying in front of the dragon when I try the individual characters. Even with Serissa1 totally offline, the characters are listed as being online.
Jako Stonehill, character of Slithy Tove, shows up as being in game when he is not.
Ash Willo, character of Zelda 111, shows up as being in game when she is not.
All of these except Ayla have "in another form" instead of the player name on the Server Status Page. Ayla is shown as belonging to "steverimmer", instead of to Serissa1
I have 2 other computers, assigned to different ports, on which different people play.

Poetic License / Song of Corash the Orc
« on: December 03, 2005, 08:42:00 pm »
A hunter proud stood on a hill, both happy and content.
His skill fed all his growing tribe. His elders honor sent.
The maidens looked at him with awe, and one was special, too.
A life of hunting, love and babes stretched out before his view.

But on a hunt he was struck down, not by his prey at all.
And not in battle hon'rable was he content to fall.
A band of war-bent mercenaries slew him as he stood
And chopped at his poor corpse as though 'twere made of only wood.

No chance had he to even fight, against the Vorax-crazed.
No time to grasp a weapon tight and strike a blow that dazed.
No growing child would look to him for pattern for its life
Nor would the Orcs call Corash' shade to keep them safe from strife.

And yet, and yet, One saw the rout and thought to use it well.
He snatched the dead unto himself in very depths of hell.
An orc, great orc, enormous grown, in hate and power strong,
'Twas Grand himself, betrayed himself, who sought to use this wrong.

Red Raven then, Grand named the dead, and brought it back to life,
To life, but only for revenge, tied to a dreadful knife.
The blade glowed red, Red Raven blade, imbued with all Grand's hate
Red Ravens both, they drank Grand's blood, accepting then their fate.

Still Corash did not know that fate, the deaths that lay in store.
He went, he thought, to get revenge from one of Vorax's spore.
A dwarf he found in distant Hlint, and challenged him to fight,
Skullcracker proved his name that day, though others helped his might.

In agony Corash arose, no peace for him in death.
Again he strove, again he lost, again he had no breath.
In agony Corash arose, death could not ease his pain.
But now he seemed to understand he'd die and die again.

"Vorax!" he screamed. "Vorax betrays! In this fight you serve Grand!"
With skill that rose as fighters closed, he fought with blade in hand.
His god's red drink empowered him. He fought with verve and dash,
And yet again, a Vorax win, he died of Skull's fell bash.

Again he drank the evil blood; again he rose from clay,
But now Corash more thoughtful seemed, "You've helped me on this day."
"Stand back. I'll go, for now," he said. "Stand back or I will kill."
With measured tread he left the town; he'd made it know his will.

Bound tight to Grand with ties of blood, Red Raven rules his kin.
He pushes them to Grand's designs upon the world of men.
And yet, and yet, does Corash live within that stern domain?
Does Corash mourn the hunt, the love, the maiden without claim?

Could Corash still put down the blade and take his spear anew?
Or is he now Red Raven, just Grand's weapon thru and thru?
Does Corash mourn the hunt, the love, the maiden left behind?
Or is he just Red Raven, and a blade that kills, that's blind?

And THEN, oh then the shaman STRUCK and broke the dreadful blade
With spell so strong it smote them both and took a hand in trade.
We healed them both, but only one arose from that black hell--
Poor Corash slept, his self sleeps still in Aeridin's fair dell.

Will hunter ever proudly stand upon a hill content?
Will mate and child live by his skill, and honor fill his tent?
As gods have spoiled, so gods may save, and folk may help his plight.
We wait the will of Aeridin to aid us in the fight.

Poetic License / A Warrior Born, A Warrior Made
« on: October 12, 2005, 01:48:00 pm »
The bold Wo-rick of Tar-a-mon had learned the dwarven trade.
His mighty arms had worked the iron for many a dwarven blade.
And yet, he found that blades once wrought came ready to his hand,
And joy came best with blades hard fought with all his warrior band.

But as he ranged throughout the land and championed his kin,
A babe abandoned, pity brought and then his heart did win.
He raised the child, a dusky elf, and kept him by his side.
He taught the child of gods and war and took him far and wide.

Young Thrwe'guayy spurned the arts of war, preferring magic's call.
Apprenticed then to Te-an-nos, he did astonish all.
With magic armed, he crossed the land, and more he sought to learn.
'Til finding that still not enough, he did to warcraft turn.

Then Thrwe'guayy sought his childhood muse, Wo-rick, the warrior bold,
And found him deep in black despair, and this the tale he told.
The dwarf had lost his warrior band, to death or capture foul
At Bloody Gate, as hard they fought to stop the Bloodstone's prowl.

In ale sought he oblivion, but Thrwe'guayy pulled him back.
With taunt and gibe he bulled the dwarf, though sorrow did him rack.
Then roared Wo-rick, "I'll show ye fight, 'til fight ye wish no more,"
And trundled forth a fell machine that none had seen before.

With clouds of smoke and fearsome noise, it spawned a golem dread.
Wo-rick advanced with swords both drawn and smote the monster dead.
Again the thing spat forth a shape, another minodon,
Wo-rick did roar, "Your turn, me lad" and spurred the golem on.

Then Thrwe'guayy fought most valiantly against this awesome foe,
'Til wounded sore and cornered well, his chances seemed quite low.
Then forward rushed his cleric friend and healed him with a spell.
New heart he took and slew the beast, then said, "Bring on your hell!"

From clouds of smoke with fearsome noise, a golem then arose,
One made of flesh impervious to swords or spears or bows.
So Thrwe'guayy called his panther friend, and they with claw and steel
Attacked the fiend and hurt it sore, but then it death did deal.

Then Thrwe'guayy fought the Thing alone, his cat dead on the floor,
No mark on golem flesh he made, yet he was wounded sore.
Wo-rick then yelled, "Enchantments, son! Use yer enchantments now!"
So Thrwe'guayy backed and then attacked, a fireball spell, I vow!

As fire clouds cleared one thing appeared, the fell machine aflame.
Wo-rick did scream, "Me great machine! Ye've ruin't it; ye'r ta blame!
Ten thousand coins for that I paid! Ten thousand coins ye owe!
And NOW I want me money, lad! Before ye turn ta go!"

Poor Thrwe'guayy stared at him, aghast, "You said to use a spell!"
"Enchantments, boy, that ain't a spell." Wo-rick did to him tell.
"That's ice on arrers or fire on sword, not blowin' up th' inn!
I want me money now, me lad. Ten thousand coins, ye ken?"

Then Thrwe'guayy thought and offered up the dearest thing he knew,
"I'll give you now my spellbook, sir, until I've paid what's due."
"Agreed!" the wily dwarf did say. "Without it ye must fight,
Until ye've paid me all that's due. Agreed, ye'll do what's right."

Wo-rick did know that warriors true must taste and master fear.
Both minds and bodies honed to fight, their weapons they hold dear.
Now Thrwe'guayy learns the warriors' way; his life hangs on his skill.
True warrior and true mage he'll be, if he wins through...He WILL.

And when the test is done and won, Wo-rick might call his son
To battle side by side with him 'til freedom they have won
For dwarves still held in durance vile, in chains since Bloody Gate.
We cannot know; he cannot know. With bated breath we wait.
