I had just about worked up my nerve to get on the server again when our forum started reformatting more or less continuously.  What is happening?  Is it safe to play?

Layonara Server / IMPORTANT -- Server problems 1-March-2017
« on: March 02, 2017, 12:28:30 am »
All,Earlier tonight, we had some problem with the server that left a few characters corrupted. I hope we things under control for the moment, however, I want to offer a few words of caution while we are still sorting things through.First, I am giving a provisional "All Clear" to log into the server again. However if you experience any trouble getting logged in or if the server crashes while trying to log in or after, do one of the following immediately:The main way this corruption seems to manifest is that it causes the server to crash when a player loads up the character selection screen. On your end, you'll see a server timeout message when trying to get to this point. Note that if you see this, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a corrupted character. It only means that the server is down. However, in one instance tonight, a player with a corrupted character was able to repeatedly crash the server when attempting to log in.Assuming we get things sorted out, we can return to a lower alert status in a few days.Any questions about this? Please ask below.

General Discussion / General Note of Apology and Catch Up
« on: February 08, 2017, 12:04:55 am »
Hey all,I just wanted to offer a general apology for the slow down of the Dragon Retribution plot line. As some of you are aware already, we've had a pretty bad time here over the winter. Every time I thought people were getting well again and I was ready to tackle stuff, someone would get sick with something else. It's been pretty awful. I would say one of the worst winters, health wise, in the history of our not-so-little family.Dorg is working on helping me get you all caught up so that we can get that plot moving a long again. Unfortunately, some people are still sick (including me) so I can't make any promises to how soon that's going to happen. I just mostly wanted to let everyone know openly what's going on and let you all know that it's not about a lack of desire or anything like that. Trust me, I'm feeling 'eternally' frustrated that it's still held up. We had wanted to transition the plot line long before the holiday but health has just been such a major factor.So thanks all for your understanding and continued patience. I hope that we'll be moving this along at something reasonable soon. Keep your fingers crossed.~row

General Discussion / The Troll King Presents: Layo Dayz
« on: January 31, 2017, 03:48:14 pm »
So, I keep trying to squeeze in time here and there to run a quest, or even just play, and guess what? Something always bloody gets in the way, not to mention, a few hours just aren't enough.Thus, I did what any reasonable person would do. I reorganized my entire schedule to be able to devote an ENTIRE DAY each month for Layo activites. This includes general quests, impromptus, CDQs, and actual playtime for my characters.The first two days are on the Calendar (February 18th and March 11th). I'll be around IG starting as early as 11am CST/CDT, but more often starting around 2pm CST/CDT (I like to sleep in.), and going until I pass out, which is likely to be around 1am CST/CDT.I'll also list other events on the calendar that I'm running that day, if they are specific enough to have their own slot.

If you have ideas for events, list them here! Or point me to the threads where they are already being discussed.

Trade and Market Hall / Earn cash for growing garlic
« on: December 09, 2016, 11:26:05 am »
The Angels Guild is offering an upfront cash payment of 150 trues per expected box for persons willing to undertake the effort of growing garlic and a cash payment of 2,000 trues per box upon delivery of the product.We need persons who own or have access to suitable property for planting and who are willing to commit to time spent gathering the bulbs needed for planting, then planting, weeding, protecting and harvesting the crop.  A very large amount of garlic is needed to help produce a cure for the plague currently affecting Liwich, but the crop must be put in quickly to have time to grow before winter.To get approximately 4 pounds of garlic bulbs (about a box), one would need to plant about 30 individual cloves 8 inches apart in a 20 foot row (or four 5 foot rows also 8 inches apart).  There are about 10 to 15 cloves of garlic in a bulb, so each 20 foot row would require about 3 bulbs worth of garlic.  Good drainage is essential, and fertile loamy soil is preferred.  Weeding is very necessary.  The crop is ready for harvest when the tops begin to yellow.  If planting late, as we are, the season may be prolonged somewhat with a light hay mulch in the fall.//Anyone interested would need to gather 3 bulbs of garlic for each plot of land to be planted, donate it to Liwich Relief, and show a guild member the donation slip to receive the initial payment of 150 trues per 3 bulbs.  Donation box available in the public part of the Angels guild hall in the Tribute to Allurial section of Hempstead.  You may pm or post here to get a meeting time.//Forum RP over the time period of the necessary work from planting thru harvesting would be required.  Upon approval of the harvest, we would pay 2000 trues per "box", taking the original donation slips.  Upon our surrender of the accumulated planting slips, the correct amount of garlic would be credited to Liwich Relief by a DM.

General Discussion / The Great Spikes
« on: November 30, 2016, 05:03:03 pm »
Hello all, been a long time since I last posted to these forums.I have been recurring online at Layo for some minor streaks, and a thought occurred to me of arranging a trip to the Great Spikes to explore the regions with Görmungard, and wanted to ask who wants to come with me/him? :)The place is level 25-35 or something like that (recommendation), even the bears are tough as nails (yes, they might have cast-iron nails for nails and have got pretty tough hides too.)If a goodly amount of goody-two-shoes' can attend, this can be a fun venture for sure. And a long one, something like 4-6... 7(?) hours, or it might be made into a two-times event. Unfortunately that would have to mean we'd need to sit our characters there for yet-to-be undefined amount of time.Them blubbering giants won't know what hit them.

Going to be unavailable until after New Year's.  With the holiday season, work, a massive influx of RL and dealing with some mental health issues, I will be busy until at least then.  Hold the fort while I'm gone.-Brewmaster

Layonara Server / Version 3.63 is now online
« on: November 25, 2016, 03:21:22 pm »
Hi all,A relatively minor update just went online. Primarily, this covers three main changes:
  • Updates to several dragons and their lairs
  • Relocated a few houses back to their original locations due to being reclaimed in the sweep
  • Temple to Kithairien on Mistone now sells holy symbols.
No code changes, system changes or other non-build bug fixes have gone in this time.

Rumour Has It / Meanwhile, over in Taur'en...
« on: November 03, 2016, 10:33:13 pm »
"I'm putting you in charge of this, Captain Felmin. Here is the report from our advance scout." Commander Moreau hands the captain a thick roll of parchments. "Take two hundred men and secure the first three levels of the mine. Take the engineering team and cave in everything below that point. Once secured, send word, and then we'll send the necessary supplies to start turning the place into a usable fortified structure."

"Yes, sir."

"Read the report carefully, Felmin. Everything from deadly oozes to disgruntled beholders were found down there. If you want your men to leave, you best have plans to deal with everything mentioned in that report. Warrant Officer Dragonheart should meet you on location with any updated news."

"Anything else, sir?"

"Yes. About Dragonheart. She is skilled and loyal, but unpredictable. Be aware that if you give her an order, she may not go about fulfilling the order in the manner you desire. So be as explicit as possible."

"I'm sure I can handle the warrant officer, sir."

"Good luck with that. Dismissed."

The captain collects the two regiments, and sets out for the abandoned mine.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"He's gone."
"That's good news. Looks like he decided it wasn't worth the trouble."
"No, you don't understand. He was really unwilling to give up his home there."
"Apparently not as unwilling as you thought."
Tyrra squints both eyes. "Captain, I don't like it. Something isn't right, and there's a barrier down below which wasn't there before."
"We're caving it in anyway, Dragonheart, so that barrier means nothing to me."
"While we secure the place, I need you to take this message back to Fort Angle. For the commanders eyes only."
"But I can help wi-"
"You have your orders."
Sucking in a breath, "Yes, sir."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"It's been three weeks and we've heard nothing back from Captain Felmin. Take a horse and find out what's taking so long."

"Yes, sir." Tyrra turns to leave.

"Oh, and Dragonheart?"

She pauses, but does not turn.

"If something's gone wrong. Don't go digging around. Get your butt back here and let me know. Got it?"

"Got it."

"Excuse me?"

".... yes, Commander, sir."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"By the gods..... They're..... gone.... they're all gone...."
It has been a long time since I have played on Layo. But I would like to make a come back :-) One of my challenges is how do I get my bioware username and CD key that I used before. I guess I can get a new account but how do I associate my character with me :-) Cheers,John
General Discussion / Chuckles Online
« on: October 20, 2016, 11:27:16 am »
Hey,Creating this thread as a place to post when I intend to be online for a relatively long period.  If anyone wishes to join me, we can enjoy some low level gameplay fun.I live in the PST timezone and am usually back from work at around 4:30pm.  Family obligations make long term play difficult, but not impossible (a couple dedicated days of the week).  This of course makes forum RP very ideal.Starting next month I will be on a course to help me move forward in my new career.  The timezone there is CST and I will also have a lot more free time with exception to school and studies.I will also be trying to make every Friday Night Round Robin (you can add me to the roster if you want Acacea, but I currently have no suggestions on what we can do).
