Rumour Has It / Posted at the Shack - Assault on Essrantor's Throne
« on: July 23, 2016, 11:42:53 am »
A notice that appears scratched onto parchment by a drunken chicken.

Despite really everyone's best efforts, Essrantor Arsehat of the Broken Arc is bound still with his stolen magic, and there are so-called Pillars of Aldtorskel yet standing. I have been trying for two lives and many years to copy the runes on the great stones in his throneroom, but such boring, uninteresting, dreary work as breaking the stake pinned through the Al'Noth in the areas has been rather uninspiring to even the friends of magic who have accompanied me in the past, and so! I only have many pieces I am still working on, because it takes quite a bit of time you know and I used to have somebody to translate what I wrote into what it is supposed to look like, but since I don't anymore I have to use shadow making illusions to trace on parchment what is on the stone, because you see the stones are so powerful you risk death to go to near, and also even though he stole his runes from the Losthammers and I made a copy of their work before we gave it back, it's really not intuitive and some may have been stolen from the elves or the cloud giants and anyway.

I have decided I have been going about this all wrong, and so am hiring a team to plant me in the throneroom! I will hide to finish as much as I can before I am discovered! Genius! Cold temperatures, strenuous climbs, long stretches with the Al'Noth silenced around you (but don't worry, I'll be there, at least on the first half, and I am very magical!), very stinky shells of the slaves to the arc that tried to flee the mountains but were struck by the destruction of the one pillar down and are now deaders, lycans, cold, and so on, in an all around exciting expedition.

Depending on success, I may have to be deposited there more than once! Meeting at the crossroads in the valley past the great falls.

((This is a venture of epic difficulty and with significant potential for lag, depending on party size and how the server is feeling that day. Can be broken into parts if desired. After the last many-death trip orth tweaked the last bit in hopes of reducing the lag we had in the future, but to my knowledge no one has been back since. I'm good all this week.))

Fixed Bugs / Thunderpeaks, Paragon Ice Fiend (Model Size?)
« on: March 26, 2017, 12:06:09 pm »

Description: In the Frozen Ruins Cavern in the Thunderpeaks, there is a giant paragon ice thingie that at first seems pretty scary, but then doesn't appear to do anything but follow you around. I thought it was an AI issue at first, but I bounced off its aura from a couple different directions and think it might just not be able to reach. Acacea batted it around a bit with her torch, then decided they were friends and told it about various adventures in hot places it will never visit. I experimented and found it able to fight back when she was on the ramp to the platform in the center of the cavern, where their friendship met an untimely end.

Rumour Has It / Blood On Ice -- Leaving the Burial Mound
« on: July 05, 2016, 08:19:14 pm »
The halfling had been in fairly good spirits, under the circumstances - as flippant about dire portents as everything else, watching the proceedings unfold with a jovial eye and insatiable curiousity for the magic involved. Until Bear. As they made their way back to the surface, 'Chimes' seemed perturbed by everyone but Ferrit -- and a completely unrelated, innocent quip by Sir Daniel provokes a complaint revealing the source of her distress.Yoa, no troubles keeping the innocent of wrongdoing bound another hour, another day, another lifetime. Never can be too careful, they might be guilty of something. I think me that this martyr Keolith from the Beforetime needed no great beast to turn him. There seems to be great fodder for monstrousness in those that would judge monsters. Despite the accusing words, one less easily provoked might note it is also not the first time she has used the name Keolith in reference to the one who once wore the robes they now carry -- at least once before they even descended into the barrow. A suspicious mind might conclude that she is withholding information, while another, long familiar, might resign themselves to the notion that she's simply forgotten that she knew anything.

((Sorry for thread, just not sure she can make it for the finale. I'm sure that they'd simply find things out from others, but I don't want to give the impression that I wouldn't share!))

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Round Robin Player Events
« on: March 17, 2017, 03:06:51 pm »

Every Friday

8PM-11pm EST

5PM-8PM PST
etc.

Upcoming Dates

Acacea[/b] 3/24, 4/14, 5/5[/b]

willhoff/davidhoff[/b]  3/31, 4/21, 5/12[/b]

LFFF[/b] 4/7, 4/28, 5/19[/b]

If you want to throw your name in the hat (!), just post your name and I'll edit the dates for quick reference. Commitments are just doing your best to show up and have fun if it is not your day, and if it is being the guy that picks what everyone's doing for the night. That's it.

Bring any character, organizing can be IC or OOC - example of the IC is "Acacea asks for an escort to x location" and the latter would be me posting an (invented, non-important) NPC's bounty and showing up with a character unassociated with it in any way. Either way, player-me is starting it. The more people on the list, the fewer times it is your turn to think of what to do.

If you can't commit to weeklies but still want to play with other people, that's the whole point! Show up whenever you can!  If a destination is put on the calendar and you know you're going to be late or something, feel free to just go ahead of time so you'll log in at the same place as everyone else. The whole idea is getting enough weeks going in a row that regardless of your schedule and even if the week is 100% dead, people can come to expect that know that other players are going to be around this Friday night to play with. (I also spent Acacea's early life not going on a single quest, just having fun RPing with fellow players, and have never followed why this can't still be a thing.)

PS Hoffs I don't know if you actually meant to sign up or not and I guessed, oops. Please clarify :P

Random thoughts: Are there people  with unpredictable schedules that could never do weekly, but wouldn't mind being sort of understudies, divvying up the occasional days where something comes up for the regular guy? I think Alatriel might have meant something along these lines...

OP Saved below for, erm, posterity.

tldr We should sign up to take turns running weekly events, what are good times and would you take a slot right now or after x number of people, or would you attend if other people did it
For obvious reasons, people collectively tend to wait to see other people on the server status or an event on the calendar before logging in, and when multiple people organize runs to places, it's just coincidence if they are near one another.

I was thinking of old campaigns that would run weekly that people would get up all hours of the night for, or when we opened up the Arms every Friday at 5pst for anyone that stopped by for a drink, and thinking it's nice for people to have a sure timeslot that others will be on for, or just the "game night" standby in general.
How 'bout a few of us OOC agreed to run our events on the same day/time every week and just took turns and[/i] went to each other's events (as players with any character) so there was always a guaranteed attendance of at least the other hosts? The more people take a slot, the fewer [/i]times it ends up being your turn. And I'm not talking like a huge deal, write up posters and bake pies all week in preparation event (unless you want to!), I just mean anything you would normally post a rumor or event for, as big or small as you feel like that week. The only point is that the burden of thinking of something to do shifts regularly, and people could get used to the idea that there will be at least a handful of folks up to something every week.
If you don't like bashing runs, the next week might be a storytelling event. If you're bored by fishing trips pretending to drink beer, the next one might be to the dragon's lair. I think everyone who has stuck it out is pretty keen on not only allowing[/i] but supporting[/i] and encouraging varied playstyles, and I think, being largely unsupervised, that we are the best people to do that ;)
Just like it doesn't have to be anything fancy, it doesn't have to be individuals. The Hoff boys could be one slot, or DB & Serissa. A DM might run a quest in that slot because by definition it was good for most people, and push whomever's turn back a week. And if someone really wants to host something but hardly anyone has a character that would fit their slot's theme (say Corathite, monster race, etc), then I think we should make characters that can accomodate so that every couple weeks  is a goblin raid or something, you know?
It's not to say you can't run something out of those times, or that anyone who ends up unfriendly to that slot is SOL. I just think that guaranteed weekly activity could potentially have a net gain for activity in general.
Even if we only got three days claimed, it would only be one person/pair/guild's turn every three weeks, which is no sweat if you are doing an ore run, and still plenty of time if you were thinking something fancy. And, ultimately, if you can't make everyone's or you can't get into other types of events, at least you'd have the benefit of knowing that same time, every week, something's going on, and one of these weeks it will be something up your alley.
Thoughtssssssssssssss? Takers? Questions? Best time suggestions?

General Discussion / Memorial time?
« on: April 05, 2016, 12:03:21 pm »
Hi. Have internet, will travel. I moved Sin's thing just by a week to get it off of Sunday, so anyone who hadn't seen the thread wouldn't show up, but it probably won't stay that day. I already got one "out of town," and I think Lindel said he was working. Could anyone do the weekend after that? I can also do all day weekdays except Fridays, though honestly post 4/19 is ideal... I kinda lost a week of preparing for stuff with power outage. Anyway, I can do it whenever starting in a week, so feedback from anyone that had intended to go or is just now considering going would be helpful! Everyone welcome...

LORE Bugs / Disarm & Improved Disarm
« on: March 24, 2016, 05:38:41 pm »
I don't see a note anywhere that warns players that these feats will not function as expected. Or at all. I feel like this used to be present. I think just not having them on the list even would be better than a version without this note. Sorry if I missed it - but if I did, chances are so will everyone else! ;)

Wild Surge Inn / Servant of Lucinda Seeks Guide Through Storan's Crypt
« on: February 24, 2016, 11:20:10 pm »
Among the other notices posted at CenterSomewhere in the mountains there is said to be a tomb that imprisoned the soul of a conqueror with his legions. I seek an experienced guide that is not only familiar with the location of Storan's Crypt, but able to offer protection for one who would be occupied with arcane investigations. I am able to provision myself and am willing to offer a small monetary advance. Lady's blessings, Neema

Development Journals and Discussion / A Host of Willing Torches
« on: December 27, 2016, 01:28:24 am »

I was a vain and silly girl that thought her road was straight and bordered with water and shade. Ornamented with fragrant nightflowers, to be traveled under a clear and star-spattered sky. Is that enough? Perhaps that demonstrates my silliness, but not my vanity. I have been told by some of the faithful that raised me that all that was needed to truly be Lucindite was love, and that all the rest would follow. That is easy as finding sand in the desert – I loved with all my heart, and tried to emulate the priestesses in all I did.

Later, I heard an Ilsaran ballad that claimed only loss could make room for love and show the shape of it, that every sorrow deepened the well of joy. It was a beautiful song, but I was full of joy and love already. Must we only acknowledge faith when compared to despair? Are we incapable of appreciating the beauty in a thing, simply because it is not surrounded by all that is ugly? My faith was lilac surrounded by orchids and lilies of the night, and I wondered if a well too deep could ever be full.

I was given early to the care of the Illumination; my mother's family is an old one in Spellgard, one of perhaps no more than a dozen that still give their eldest daughters up to Lucinda to become priestesses, into whatever was the latest incarnation of Her mortal organizations. For me, that meant the Presage and what could at times seem an endless sea of other students, so I grew to cherish our places of solitude.

I never chafed at the choices made for me, as some expected me to; no one can be forced to devotion, and I needed little prodding. I could always have left when I came of age, but this was my whole world, from the heady scent of alurialis to the moons' market, libraries and star-shrines to winding dead-end streets. While children elsewhere played at princesses and giants and dragons, I played at priestess and imitated my favorites while envying their grace and mystery. I was shown at a toddling age what grandmothers in most other worlds (as I thought them) would never know.

Those other worlds seemed barbaric, in any case. We heard stories sometimes, of children with magic in their blood and how they were discovered. Setting ablaze their hair (or worse, their homes), calling creatures from beyond they couldn't control, binding others to their will without realizing or knowing how to release them. Crossing the eyes of their neighbors! We also heard what sometimes happened to those we don't find, that don't find some other sympathetic home. Even those that were allowed to leave their homes unharmed seemed to have a long and lonely road of fighting with the demons inside them.

Not me. Not here.

Wild Surge Inn / Posted at Center - Seeking Escort to Willow's Weep
« on: February 14, 2016, 12:54:16 am »
I am a humble servant of the Stars' Mage, seeking a guide to a storied tomb in the village of Willow's Weep, without going by way of Spellgard. I am not well-traveled and hope to find the company of those who are not enemies of my Lady of Spells to warn of the road's dangers. Provisions for myself, and a reasonable fee for a guide are within my meager means, but those who would seek to rob me will find I have little else but my faith. While I am often found in the local crypt, I would prefer word be appended to this notice rather than disturbing Master Ezekiel with the goings-on of others.

Implemented Ideas / Community Alternate Timeline
« on: May 04, 2017, 07:30:50 pm »
vgn's fancy new time converter (tweaked for timeline matching) here! This is a WIP - italicized years are placeholders to remind me of when stuff happened. 4/6 added placeholders for Center, Mean Streets and Tides of Ire 7/26 added references to events related to Hardragh's and Rodlin's WLDQs 8/19 added Plague referenceOn that note, I am having some trouble with the Dragon Storm timeline, in that there were so many events and contributions that I am not sure they all belong on a main timeline, but am not sure of the best way to condense yet to hit the events (especially the shock and awe ones) without getting bogged down in detail. I'd like the result of everyone's efforts to be known and accessible ... ! So I'm not ignoring it... hehe. It could probably also use some time editing to reflect intentions vs RL realities - at the moment these are straight conversions of RL dates. If something is there that you feel should not be widely known, feel free to say so BUT I will say that I used only public posts and information distributed by open-knowledge types (like the Aragenites at Bydell).Besides some DS specifics, among other events still intended but not yet straightened out are those surrounding the famine and the Destroyer's Curse arc. On a completely unrelated note, if anyone could donate to me either the logs for or the names of all participants in the DS finales, Salvation of Hurix, and any other post-Dragoncalled major conflicts, I'd appreciate it. I shelved a long ago started OOC project for lack of names, hehe.

1420
After many years of darkness and twilight, the sun can be seen in the sky again, and the Dark Ages end.
A disturbance in the Al'Noth was repaired by Lucindites and a party of adventures deep in Alindor's Wolfswood forest. Within weeks of the repair King Briant of Erilyn makes a royal appearance with his court of Barons and Baronesses in Fort of Kings. It is the first time the royal court of Erilyn has been seen together in over 200 years and sparks a period of growth and stability for not only Erilyn but Alindor. The influence of Shindaleria also increases in Alindor at this time.

1421(5)
  • Strange sightings on Alindor. The rumour goes that a group of adventurers entered the Mountains of Madness and were the first to enter the shroud, that marks the border to Milara's domain and covers the entire area, for several years. Little is known of what actually transpired in there, but fact is that several eye witnesses from nearby settlements reported of changes in the 'dome of night'. Investigators concluded that a ritual was conducted within the dome that revealed itself in the shape of a black snake or whirlwind reaching all the way to the heavens. The result of said ritual has been a thickening of the web that forms the 'Dome of Night' above the Mountains of Madness - just as if darkness descended.
  • In this year, the very last recorded cross-species birth occurred. After this, no halfbreed children were born, and those who were halfbreeds themselves (half-elves, half-orcs, and other creatures of mixed blood) gradually discovered that they were utterly unable to conceive/bear children.
1422(9)
  • Slave uprising in the Deep almost succeeds before Rael's forces from above and below are able to crush the Deep gnomes and their leaders. Several prominent Beryl clergy were lost, weakening Her influence in the Deep. Rael strengthened his hold in Dregar and in the Deep.
  • The Wolfswood Rangers wage a fierce but quiet war against venemous spiders bred by a servant of Ca'duz. Rumors leak out of the wood, however, of increased spider activity - spiders the size of hunting mastiffs running across the surface of Lake Freis, spiders the size of ponies attacking cows. Healers of every stripe are recruited into Erilyn forces.
1423(33)
  • Rumors whisper of shadows attacking in the night near Mariner's Hold. The city undergoes a period of martial law that turns a fairly common practice of checking travelers at city gates into something more than merely cursory. All ships are searched before unloading, and those arriving on foot are not merely nodded through the gates with a cursory glance at traveling papers but stopped and searched, as well. Those out after dark are no longer merely the objects of suspicion but escorted out or beaten, even imprisoned, at the slightest sign of resistance.
  • A large tidal wave washes a third of the city of Mariner's Hold into the ocean. The cause of the wave is never verified but rumors both of divine and arcane nature persist. Next to fellow realms on Alindor, Lord Rael the Benevolent also aids the peoples of Mariners Hold and Sagewald as does a large contingency of the adventuring public.
  • It is whispered that an artifact has been stolen from Fisterion.
  • A great white dragon attacks the city of Leringard, destroys its harbor and kills hundreds of citizens. Lord Rael the Benevolent sends aid to its people, as do many adventurers. Realms on Mistone also provide various means of aid.
  • The town of Tammil in Belinara has a change of rule. There is fighting in the streets of Tulam, and its residents had to flee into the forest.
  • Y'ogoldrania, the Golden Emerald, is stirred from her slumber on Voltrex.*
1424
  • Approximately one year after a group of adventurers was invited to Voltrex to observe the discussing of two opposing proposals, the Aesmil Isim voted for the rebuilding of the legendary city of Ovdear and the relocation of the Aesmil Isim to the future site. The proposal to dissolve the Aesmil Isim did not receive enough votes. (1432 - Used to be placed before prior entry, with "one year later" wording - moved to be one year later)
  • Hitherto unconfirmed rumors of dragon half-breeds on Belinara may have a grain of truth in them as adventurers explore the troubled Kuhl Kingdom. The Cult is now also sometimes referred to as the Dragon Stealers. Later this year, the rumors from Belinara speak of civil war, the remnants of Bloodstone's forces returning in strength, dragons in the sky, creatures ascending from the Deep, fire falling like rain from the sky. (1435, 1436)
  • Hilm Protectorate makes a public call for aid to adventurers, independent knights, and every warrior wielding sword or magic. Two months later, the capital city of Kuhl, Westgate, falls to the Dragon Stealers, aided by a massive dragon now known as Ractrafieroz. Fortunately, Queen Alise Langovale of Kuhl is saved by adventurers.
  • A Goblin, Gnome and human alliance west of Fort Wayfare has been detected and its interest in Fort Wayfare and lost relics in the area noted. (1436)
  • A 'Lord Reaver' in service to Admiral Red Bear of Hurm is credited for the unified crushing of the Silver Crescent Slavers' coordinated raids to conquer and enslave key locations in Trelania, Boyer, Liwich, and Co'rys.
1425
  • Kuhl has all but fallen, and it is discovered that the realm of Nesar is negotiating with the Dragon Stealers - peace in exchange for the use of their fleet. Some say they are preparing a fleet to sail to Mistone.
  • A group of adventurers meets with the dragon Shadrixkayl, who provides the means to locate an item of power.

1426 The artifact is returned to Fisterion rather than Shadrixkayl.
1428 Hurix saved after 5day siege yay
1430 Something stirs in the Almoran. Western Mistone is devastated by massive tsunamis responsible for the loss of thousands of lives. Leringard turns aside most of the force, and several druids are lost in the sheltering of Krandor, but Port Hempstead is hit hard by the first wave. Several unprotected hamlets on the coast are lost completely. Desperate calls for aid lead to united efforts to block or divert the worst of the storms in major locations, but the dead pile so high in Karst that plague rules all and the dead rise. Infections spread as far as Palden Lake.
1431 Enormous display of power over the Almoran; lightning in the skies and fire on the waters.
1433 The once-abandoned region of Brelin known as Center gains momentum in its shift from a huddle of tents occupied by refugees from the tsunamis, to a trading crossroads with a proper inn and craftsman facilities when portal exit points are redirected there from Fort Wayfare.
1434 Trelania fights Cult forces within its own borders. There are reports of Myr'Drach attacks on western trade routes, and sightings of some blue and silver dragon devouring travelers. People flock to major cities as the forces of various factions both religious and political mobilize and work to eliminate the new threats. Hilm warns Kuhl of war. Moraken's Tower is under siege, and a massive, corrupted bronze and black colored dragon falls on those that seek to break it.Though the siege is broken by one group and a direct attack on Hlint repelled by another, the defenders take heavy losses compared to the size of the Cult forces, whose dead were burned. Before the deaths can even be tallied, however, disease spreads. Hlint is quarantined, its containment managed by the Sisters of Rebirth.
1436 A strike force attacks the hidden Cult base at Stormcry Hollows; other plot finales. The Sovereign Siphe Principality is formed, carved from Hilm (literally in some cases) with the aid of the dragon Ractrafieroz one hundred miles in all directions of what is now known as Fieroz City.
1437
  • Several volcanoes around the world fill the skies with soot and ash, sparking fears in affected locations of a return to the Dark Times. Eruptions are attributed to the servants of Pyrtechon who claim responsibility and hail it as an omen of the Destroyer's coming.
  • Voltrex declares a state of emergency and closes its borders once more, following a historic sitting of the Aesmil Isim that reaches Isim Eliwanilae, or a unanimous accord. Trade vessels already en route return to their ports of call reporting that elven ships of war had intercepted them - and that the entire northern region of the continent is practically under siege from the eruptions and lightning storms.
  • Various DS aftermath settling
1438
  • The dragon Snowtooth  attacks fleets belonging to Mist's followers, and their buildings in Leringard. Some in the city wish them gone to avoid the wrath of the dragon.
  • Hardragh supplants Yashilla  as Tide of the North.
1439 Another season of what should be re-birth is under a darkened cloud. Fewer newborns are entering the world. Hens are laying eggs that are not fertilized. Babies born fall prey to illness or predators. Seeds planted are failing to germinate and those that do grow poorly. Unrest grows.
1440 An expedition led by Storold Doesscha is thought lost for good, taking some of the world's most powerful with it - the Diet of Lor and her partner among them.
1441 The grisly destruction of villages Vale and Clover in the Forest of Fog.
1443 The lost expedition returns, supposedly from the Pits of Strife. Tremors rock the area surrounding the known entrance to the Great Rift. Lightning and other displays of power play from multi-hued clouds as magic returned to long-dead caverns.
1451
  • Mean Streets, the Revenant takedown
  • Over the course of three months, the very heavens shift. The constellations thought to represent the deities Shindaleria, Dorand, Lucinda, Goran and the Couple move to circle a space that becomes occupied by Aragen's Book. Travel by sea is affected, and some react to the change with fear and predictions of the end times. After a time, however, the new becomes the normal.
1452 The Liquid Death, Rael locked down
1454
  • Giantess' Supremacy shifts in the skies to stand near the group of seven constellations, near to Prunilla and Deliar. Soon after, Toran's Light moves near Dorand's position in the group.
  • Troops comprised of Toranites, Voraxains, and scouts from the Wolfswood Rangers move from Bloody Gate along with a company of mercenaries and adventurers.
1456 The stars do not so much shift as they are once more observed in the positions they were known to occupy prior the shifts of a few years prior.
1457 An invading army of gnolls swarms out of the Ire Mountains. Several farms and small settlements are sacked. The motive for such an attack is unclear -- many would argue that none is needed, as gnolls are vicious creatures. Other rumors claim the gnolls fled something worse, and the world just got in the way.
1459 The Wasting Death returns to Liwich.

Rumour Has It / Destination Camp Ubiquitous Glyph
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:56:32 pm »
A few hastily written "Seeking Minders" notices are placed in a few key locations, and a few birds are sent out to a few key acquaintances. All of them are hazy on both destination and reasons, speaking only of "matters of life and death" and "dire import" and warning of "possible battles with immortals or rifts into other planes of being" with requests to meet at the "Spikey Camp in the Snowlands" past the "stupid goblin caves after kobold territory where desperate miners chip gems when there are matters of life and death to attend to" with enough supplies to "reach Toran's uplifted nose."Many are the underlines emphasizing utter emergency, and those familiar with the author are likely to be surprised - who could have imagined her previous examples of handwriting were not the worst she had to offer?

((Will be at the Great Spikes camp just after the goblin caves at 5:00 PST tonight (the 17th), but will not be leaving until around 5:30PST

Looking at 5:30-8:30 tonight, tomorrow night, and Wednesday night, and whatever can be managed after that as long as necessary.

Please bring your expedition RP and remember

there are often very long distances between areas[/li]
  • food-fire-shelter is needed to live[/li]
  • Even if a kind DM ports you out to play between, please RP that you never left[/li]
  • If anyone wants to gather before/aftertimes just to hang out and RP at camps, that is also awesome and I am down for that - this time window is just for moving))[/li][/list]

    General Discussion / Multi-day trip?
    « on: January 16, 2016, 12:01:57 pm »
With the server status as it is, I thought perhaps it was not so great a sacrifice to lock up a character for a couple days and perhaps I could sell enough people on a long excursion! ;)I went last night to check out a place I know most people haven't been and remembered (once she got there) that is was behind the Kuhl checkpoints. (Acacea hopped the barricades and never stopped running, but this is beside the point.) For some reason I started rambling, I just wanted to know if enough people would be up for a (different) 2-3 day trip, preferably today-tomorrow-Monday (being stuck would not be an issue, even without DM!) but we could always hash it out if notice is too short, I guess... That said, my new place of internet access has been extremely unpredictable in its accessibility, heh. I will be out until early PST afternoon today but was thinking of starting this evening, maybe ...6ish? PST? 5? Suggestions welcome, heh. All levels would be welcome, but they would also probably die. hehe.If anyone is only interested depending on the location, this would be a Deep trek from one end to the other, which itself starts out with a long trip through Firelight. Someone who remembers the way would be nice. *cough* If enough people are interested I will give them a reason to be there.

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / The Sea Disgorges a Guest
    « on: December 09, 2015, 05:51:17 pm »
Tori's empty stomach knotted threateningly, still in full rebellion over the damnably long voyage by sea. Her body seemed to find being quits of the ship nearly as bad as boarding it to begin with. "If a woman's fool enough to set foot on the ocean," it warned, "she ought to at least have the good sense to stay there forever."Cities were different places after dark, and this one was unfamiliar to her. She'd heard some stories, passed through on a few occasions, done a few jobs, but she hadn't put in the hours watching. Shoulders tensing when passing one another, steps quickening unconsciously to put something behind. Mapping alleys, ways in and out of the sprawl, the places adults left children to their games and the ones forbidden them that children played in, anyway. Letting herself be stolen from, even as the signs of those who would steal flickered around her with growing confidence. As forbidding as Leringard could appear when it wanted, she'd only seen what it put on for guests, and held no illusions of being anything else.As a guest, then, she needed a place to stay.

I will be unable to make the quest this morning. I'm sorry for the short notice and the unanswered PMs in my inbox, and hope to return soon. Good luck!

Rumour Has It / Angels - A Detour From Somewhere to Somewhere Else
    « on: July 06, 2015, 11:31:36 pm »
A bedraggled halfling with mud nearly to her knees uses a runed walking stick to knock at the "Angels Only" (so to speak) door in the fields. Beside her is a horse who looks to have been better taken care of than herself, despite its old scars. She eyes the lock thoughtfully, rattling the keys at her waist, but then mutters to herself and gestures to make a considerably more impressive series of booming sounds than her more mundane attempts.HALLOOOO! I need to see a man about a Door! And things. And maybe a discount. ALSO IS MOUSTACHE IN?

((Apologies that I cannot be in-game until Thursday at the earliest, so I thought I would take to the forum.))

Ancients Legacy / Leaving the Academy, Meeting Place
    « on: April 28, 2015, 12:21:12 pm »
Before leaving the Academy, Acacea thanks Zang for his help and gnomish practice, and asks that he make at least a token effort to keep the matter reined in for a time. She mentions that if he wanted to reach her, she'd get word at Al's Place eventually, but Spellgard could reach her more urgently. I'd be interested in knowing if anyone else came looking, she grins.

Outside, she seems antsy or unconsciously impatient, tapping keys together or twitching belled wrists in the bouncing, repetitive rhythm of someone unaware or uncaring of their habits.
We should talk. Before we go further. She glances to Plenarius and then away again to the others remaining. Somewhere quiet, she adds, stressing the word despite the noise.

I... know a place safe from ears and blades, but... We'd need to take a portal and there are... considerations. If there is another place even half as safe from intrusion we might go there, instead. She hesitates before adding, If the intent is to make-safe, we could also go to the treehouse for munchies, but we'd be dependent on our own wards... which is as good as saying we are dependent on no one trying. I think we should send to the others, too, and wait until we can all meet - it will also give people time to gather what they have. Moustache, Door, Andrew-in-the-Red-Coat, Tyra, not the dwarf? Unless - She seems to have a thought but glances up and doesn't say it aloud.((Just getting plot-huddle meeting time/place out there for consideration/agreement, particularly those who were not on the last session. This Saturday regular plot time work for most people? Also, just suggesting if anyone had any information they needed to clarify that they do so ASAP so a DM has time to see it beforehand. Lastly, if someone has missed any session or all sessions, especially the last one, and would like to participate but be caught up beforehand to avoid info-overload in the 'meeting,' your character can contact Acacea and we can hook up so she can catch you up as much as she is able. Alternatively, you can PM me and she will contact you (providing the character is not a known enemy), if you would like to be involved but don't think your character would message her.))

Ancients Legacy / Through the Forest...
    « on: March 01, 2015, 12:53:01 pm »
Acacea is distracted and at times fretful, looking back the way they came as if she could tell with a glance if any souls were freed. Woven into a few of her songs for the road are what sound, for speakers of elven, like a sort of prayer for a goddess to be on the watch for another soul. When given the opportunity she scribbles on a rumpled parchment, seemingly in half swirlies and stick figures and the rest some sort of notes. For any glancing over her shoulder they are barely decipherable not because of mystic arcane runes or the like, but because her handwriting is atrocious. She is apparently making notes on the portal and the wards in the room they returned from, though off to one side there are a few different spellings of the name "Aedan" originally gave, as if she tried to connect some significance to the choice. When the choice of who carries the package comes out, she lingers around Daniella whether welcome or no, trying to listen for any traces of magic that may not have been present around the woman before. If asked she seems to be of the opinion that for all she knows it could be radioactive itself, and is just attempting to listen for leakage. What riddle did you mean, Brisbear? she asks abruptly at one point, without context.

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Storytellers Night at the Arms
    « on: February 13, 2015, 06:11:12 pm »

A belled and marked halfling with a belt of many keys cajoles and sings to passersby in the cities she passes through, beginning with Spellgard in the New Year. She playfully spins magic in melody with minor illusions for her stories, and summons all who would tell or listen to stories to travel to Leringard for Midwinter.

The wind told me a lie to give from me to you
I vow full solemn here that all I say is true
Once there was and wasn’t, in times known as Ago,
A City in the North, amidst the ice and snow

The waves and storms they crashed, and how the thunder growl’d
The People did not fear, no matter how wind howl’d
Some were the sea’s foundlings, or sons of frost wights cold,
Others had blood running with driven fire bold

Inside the City was a flame that never died,
It made lights on windows, shadows on stages wide
And in the best of days it thrived amidst a din
You see, about this hearth - ‘round it, there was an Inn.

Older than the City, if truths we’re telling now
Old as arms and armor, as old as that, I vow
Dreamt here into being by wand’ring restless souls
Blood of battlefields, the coin spent for its coals

And at its secret heart, a tyrant on his throne
A shifting bed of coals that warmed the coldest stone
When kept caged it granted warmth of the purest sort
But when unleashed - ashes, a rage that none could thwart

When fed high and roaring, the City was kept dark
It ate up their stories, made laughter in a spark.
The People feared no night, cheered through the waters rough
Safe they slept and they dreamed, and lo, it was enough

Then their hearts were taken, bitten by Winter cruel
And any hearth kept cold belonged then to a fool
The Inn’s undying flame, it shrank there small and weak
For all ‘cross the City, each flame was at its peak

Beneath the old Inn’s doors North Lords breathed their flurries
While the People huddled, clinging to their worries
None to see the warnings in the fading woodsmoke:
A People without songs is just a People broke

Whispers of danger came from the glowing embers
No crackle to its voice, but the flame remembers
If Midwinter passes without the Inn’s hearth bright
All across the City will burn only witch-light

For this wind was summoned, though it grumble and glare
To say warmth all alone is no proof ‘gainst despair
To Hearth-Regnant it's bound, and its words are all true
And so on its behalf, I’m here to summon you

Come Ozy to the Prime, come Aylas, Geirs, and Flynns
Come back to us Gypsy, shy Annas, Katriens

Come Owen with your hat, Cae is here a’calling
Come WitMissing, gotcha! There’s no need for brawling

Come Tambourine Lady, your songs are needed here
    Andrew-In-The-Red-Coat, drink competition’s beer

Come Storm-Bringers, Chanters, come and tell a tale
Bring your weathered chestnuts, bring the pirate Gale

Come Spell-Singers, Harpers, sing for me a song there
Bring your own creations, bring them for all to share

Come Snake-Dancers, Jesters, to The Inn wearing bells!
Come tumble and poke fun, for mirth unlocks our cells

Come Bellowers, Forked Tongues, tell me another lie
So long as you keep on, this flame will never die

A few notices appear here and there once she is gone, words shining faintly on parchment.

The Leringard Arms Hosts Storytelling on the Longest Night

Just as it says, nothing huge or important :) I've seen a couple people back from long enough ago that they have not been aware of the voice commands at all, let alone all the sneaky ones we've got, or the ones that orth has been adding. There's a voice command to tell you about voice commands, but, er. *cough* heheSo my suggestion is just to have an open quest in the journal with a list of accepted commands that you can complete with another, so new people will get clued in and others will have an easy point of reference. Just a thought! Carry on.
