General Discussion / Alabama Distruction
« on: April 28, 2011, 02:19:24 pm »
As some may know Alabama was hit with serious storms and tornados. Our town was hit by 3 tornado's. We are without all utilities for the next 3-5 days. No power, cable , phone or cell. I had to drive over an hour into TN for gas and cell service. We have had several deaths and they are still searching. Please keep these families as well as others in your thoughts and prayers.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Nesar-Kuhl
« on: April 25, 2011, 07:21:58 pm »
// 2 days after Razeriem and Hardragh capture Prim

"Go ahead and find out why our *curse* army is not moving" The Mad Doctor raged while seated on a wagon in the column of soldiers marching towards Vilsna. The combined Nesar armies had crossed into Kuhl and had made fairly good time along the main road from Nith to Vilsna over the last few days.

Alandric had graciously allowed General Zan Rimous to take his armies first since they would have to branch off to skirt around Vilsna and head to Amaria leaving Alandrics forces clear to assault the large town of Vilsna. But now, not even halfway to Vilnsa the long columns had slowed and now stopped with no word from the General as to why. Alandric was in a foul mood anyway and this just added fuel to the fire.

One Eye rode his tall black warhorse along the lines where tired soldiers took the moment to sit down or rest from the toiling march. Men and women flinched away from the sight of him as he thundered past.

Eventually he reached the forward units and the Generals party.

"The Doctor wants to know whats going on General, he is not pleased with this delay."

The General turned his mount to look at the large Raven then averted his gaze.

"We have Cult soldiers ahead, they have formed defensive lines across the road and into the rought terrain on either side. I've sent out scouts to assess how many lie in our path."

The Raven's horse shifted under him as he spoke, "You have soldiers, send them in and you will soon find out how many Cultists lie ahead."

The General licked his lips nervously and angry mutters could be heard from several of those in his party.

"Of course that will reveal those immediately before us but it would be a waste of life and will most likely not tell us if the enemy has other surprises for us further back that we cannot see."

"It is not a waste of life, those that fall can be used again."

More angry mutters and the general developed a sheen of sweat upon his brow.

"Yes, yes of course, how foolish of me to forget that. It is indeed lucky for us that the Doctor is present that we have the benefit of such powerful magics. I humbly ask for one more hour for my scouts to return, if they do not then I shall do as you request."

Jehorum's horse shuffled back and forth and he seemed to consider the words.

"Very well, one hour then you assault their positions," a pause, "and you will personally lead the assault." He wheeled his mount around and raced back down the lines leaving the General and his staff angry and afraid at the same time.

An hour later, as ordered General Zan Rimous led his army into the enemy positions on the road to Vilsna, and lived to talk about it later although many of his men didnt.

They reached the barricades and threw themselves onto them trying to breach them and drive a hole in their ranks to send cavalry in and around them to cut them off. They managed to do so before a small group of four Myr'drachs appeared and cut into their ranks decimating them within minutes. By this stage Alandrics forces had reached a position where they could watch the battle.

He ordered them to hold their positions and even chuckled a few times at the scene of carnage before him. Eventually however he signalled to Adder, Gimli and Eyebite to lead their Corathite soldiers into the fray.

"Clear this mess up for the general will you, otherwise we'll be here all day."

Hours later the armies had formed up and were marching past the broken enemy lines. Dozens of small trees had been cut into posts and staked up around the area and numerous cult bodies hung from them for the crows to feed on.

Alandric glanced behind him as they moved forward once again and commented to Jehorum who road his horse beside the wagon.

"Good days work One-Eye, the enemy are all dead of fled and our army swells with soldiers more biddable and less fickle than before."

Jehorum grunted in agreement and glanced behind the wagon where dozens of undead Cult and Nesar soldiers shuffled along behind them. Around them dozens of Corathite priests kept them in line and moving forward. Behind them a wide space had opened up between the undead and the first groups of Nesar infantry. Fear in their eyes as they stared at the horror that walked before them, some of them had been friends the day before, some enemies, and now they were undead.

The march to Vilsna continued.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Nesar-Hilm
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:10:23 pm »
// This takes place the day that Ractrafiorez breaks the southern wall of Fort of Last Hope.

"What do you think?" Razeriem frowned as he passed the looking glass back to Hardragh.

Hardragh took a look, scanning the areas of the town visible from the small farmhouse they had moved up into to get a better look at what lay ahead.

"I can't see much, a few towns folk moving around. Wait, there they are. Looks like some Cult regulars walking around the town, probably a patrol. We could send in some of the peasant enlistments, they can probably blend better and maybe speak to a few of the locals and find out what numbers we have to deal with."

Razeriem took the eyeglass back and looked once again. Slowly a smile spread across his face.

Hardragh grinned, "Or maybe not."

Razeriem snapped the looking glass shut, "Nothing like a brisk attack against unknown odds."

The two men withdrew from the house to where their horses and a half a dozen guards waited for them. Razeriem spoke to three of them.

"Herrin, go back to Sergeant Alkis tell him to bring his peasant regulars marching up the main road straight towards Prim. Make as much noise as you can, wave the banners around, whatever it takes. But loud."

"Loyd, you ride over to Lieutenant Jarnon and get him to take the cavalry round to the southern side of the city into those trees over there and wait for my signal. Then he is to charge into the town from that side."

"Jayk, I want you to tell Corporal Hayden to break the remaining infantry into units of forty men and march them in formations across the fields towards Prim behind the peasant enlistments."

The three men saluted casually, since Razeriem was not the type for many of the typical military accoutrements.

"So what are we doing?" Hardragh asked.

Razeriem gave him a cheeky grin, "We? We're going to go and knock on the door."

Together, followed by the remaining four guards their small group allowed their horses to walk forward along the main road to the city. As they drew closer they could see small guard posts set at many of the street entrances to the city with figures moving about in them.

As they drew even closer, to within a hundred metres of the first guard post a loud din began to arise down the road further back. Razeriem glanced behind him to see the several hundred peasants of his thousand strong army marching in columns, banners held high, voices yelling at the top of their lungs. Furthern back spread out in ten groups and advancing across the fields and dishevelled farms in outlying Prim came his Nesar regular infantrymen. He also trusted that the small cavalry force was now moving into position amongst the trees.

The noise of the peasants stirred Prim into action. The few townsfolk on the streets fled into their homes and suddenly Drachs and Cult regulars began rushing around to take their positions to defend the large town. One man, a tall Drach stepped forward commanding them to stop about 30 metres from the Cult lines into the town.

"This is a city of Kuhl, you are not welcome here, turn your army around and leave or we will slaughter you all."

Razeriem stepped down from his horse and walked towards the man hands out to show he held no weapon. The Drach appeared confident in his own abilities and only told Raz to halt when he was several feet from him.

With a flourish Raz bowed to the man and gave him his most winning smile.

"My good man, I'm simply here to rescue many damsels in distress. I was well informed that you people might know where I can find some."

The Drach looked momentarily off guard then resumed his tough stance.
"My commands stand, you will not have this town. It belongs to Kuhl. leave or die."

"My good man, I'm afraid we can't do that." His voice took on a harder tone. "You see I will rescue those damsels with or without your help. I really dont care if you die here I'm sure by the time I finish with your men at least one of them will give me what I want."

"Why you.." The Drach drew a large blade and moved to strike Raz down then stumbled and glanced down in suprise as the tip of Raz's rapier, pushed through his boiled leather armour and penetrated his heart with deadly speed and accuracy.

The area exploded into movement as Hardragh shouted a warning then leapt off his own saddle to face a group of crossbowers levelling their bows at Razeriem. His voice burst forth and the entire group fell to the ground blood pouring from their eyes and ears, their nose and mouths. Each one of them dead.

One of Raz's guards suddenly sounded a loud horn and the attack began.

The peasants started to run towards the city, the infantry jogged in formations towards it as well. More and more drach soldiers converged on the western edge of the town to face the incoming Nesar soldiers and as they did so the Cavalry swept in from the south driving up the narrower southern road and overrunning the cult positions, trampling the soldiers into the ground with the hooves of their warhorses and driving towards the heart of the town.

Razeriem and Hardragh lashed out with magic, voice and blades as they cut their way through the forward defences of the Cult. It seemed that the Cult had left merely a holding force at the town, a handful of Drachs and a larger handful of general Kuhl soldiers. By the time the peasant army reached the entrance to the town they fell upon those wounded or had somehow managed to escape Hardragh and Raz's dramatic advance.

Soon the infantry hit the western edge of the town, groups of forty men and women advancing through every street, encountering fleeing Cult soldiers here and there and other pockets of resistance.

The Cavalry narrowed their columns into the town and pushed to wards the main square. Driving smaller elements of the Cult forces before them and crushing those who fell in the street.

Within an hour Hardragh and Razeriem stood in the centre square of the large town. The cavalry were arrayed around the southern edge of the courtyard and infantrymen stood guard over two hundred Kuhl soldiers who had surrendered while the peasant enlisted folk began going door to door to let the townsfolk know they were safe.

Soon after Razeriem met with the Mayor of the town and learn't the news that every women and girl child in the town had been taken north soon after the Cult had captured the town.

The only good news was that a dozen women and children had been able to be kept hidden during the occupation.

As their men secured each part of the city and hunted for any remaining cult soldiers Razeriem and Hardragh interrogated several of the prisoners before making plans for their next move.  (PM sent)

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Fort of Last Hope
« on: April 11, 2011, 08:43:23 pm »
And as the Cult arranges themselves for battle in Fort Miritrix, and the leading elements of the large Cult force approaching Nesar engage and smash the front ranks of the Nesar armies in Nith another larger army approaches south and west of Fort of Last Hope.

Overhead in the early hours of the morning a massive Red Dragon is seen circling lazily over the Fort high above as the Cult forces begin to make their approach. By Midday the Dragon descends content merely to destroy and burn everyliving thing and every structure lying between the Forts walls and the edges of the surrounding valley until nothing remains but burnt and blackened ruins of the large village that once nestled around the mighty walls of the Fort of Last Hope.

Inside the city forces dispatched from Fort Miritrix to its defence can do nothing but wait helplessly as the Mighty Red Dragon has its way with the area. By afternoon, heavy black smoke forms a massive pyre into the sky obscuring vision for all those in the Fort itself.

And as night falls thousands of campfires begin to set up a few miles from the fort to the south, then to thewest and finally by midnight to the north. Thus, as morning light filtered across the ruined town and the Mighty Fort standing within it. The defenders looked out at huge force made up of Myr'drachs, Drachs, soldiers and Dragons of the Cult army with some trepidation.

Only the eastern passage through the mountains was still theirs since the Fort itself backed up against the ravine passage meaning an army would have to break through the Fort, or somehow scale massive rugged mountains to get behind them. For now the supply lines through the eastern pass to the makeshift docks for supply ships guided through the reefs by the Sindalerians remained open. How long that would remain so with he dragons present was not known.

After three days of Seige a letter arrived for the Forts leaders demanding their surrender from the enemy General Jaedon Siphe, a man rumoured to have never lost a battle under his direct command, a man who already had stamped his authority on the conflict in Hilm. His tactics and battle plans the ones that had enabled them to so far take over and control almost half of Hilm.  The messages returned from Sir Lance and Lord Alexander were sent to the Cult General and within hours the first attacks began.

The Cult armies began building large seige towers and catapults while Two Cult corruputed Dragons began dropping large rocks on the Fort from above . Occasionally the Mighty Red dragon was also seen gliding over the pass to the east.

This continues for over a week.

General Discussion / How's Everyone Doing?
« on: March 31, 2011, 11:18:58 pm »
Yo..

Yeah, it feels like forever since I dropped by. I keep saying I'll redownload the haks and check out the updates, but that always escapes me. Anyway the forums are easy enough to get to.

Anyway!  I guess the title says it all. I wanted to know how everyone was doing. Is anyone from the old days still around? If so, What's up with you! What's up in game? How is everyone!?

It's been forever since I've played here. I started in 12th grade, and now I'm done college, it feels like ages! I've missed you guys.

Leanthar! How is the game development going? Shame about that rune game closing up. I enjoyed what little I've seen of it.

Also: Hi Dorg, and Ed, and Row, since you're the three DMs I recognize most that seem to be still active. :) How are ya? Busy as ever?

General Discussion / Mithral Golem Loose in Dalanthar
« on: March 30, 2011, 08:00:49 pm »
Apparently somebody brought a Mithral Golem into Dalanthar which is now locked in an epic battle with an invulnerable shopkeep at the Thunder Peaks Transition.  Please do not lure monsters to town when spooked, people!  Going to need a clean-up on Aisle 3 before some unsuspecting character loses a soul strand trying to exit town.

Layonara Server / Notice of exploit -- PLEASE READ
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:11:13 pm »
It has come to my attention that there is, and has been for some time, an unintended exploit involving bows and weapon enhancements. Specifically, it has been possible to apply weapon damage enhancements to bows, which then applies an additional damage type on top of whatever the arrows may already do, which also stacks with whatever damage enhancements (i.e. elemental rods) may be present on the ammunition.

This exploit came about as a side effect of being able to cast Darkfire/Flame Weapon on bows and other ranged weapons as part of our rather sweeping improvements to ranged weapons overall. It was not our intent to have permanent enhancement for ranged weapons and it takes the general balance of them beyond our design.

As such, the 3.30.3 update closes this exploit.  Players will no longer be able to add permanent elemental, silver or titanium enhancements to ranged weapons.  Darkfire and Flame Weapon will still continue to function.  For those bows already out there with permanent enhancements applied, I'm requiring a mandatory "recall" of such enhanced weapons.  This applies to everyone. No exceptions.

In order that training, customization and other enhancements (i.e. Mighty) are not lost, I am also making a tool available to GMs which will remove damage enhancements from objects.  GMs will also compensate characters with an appropriate elemental enhancement rod, so that nothing is lost.  If you are willing or able to "ox" your ranged weapons, please do so.  Otherwise, please contact a GM to have your weapon modified.

This is mandatory. I regret that this is necessary, but it should never have been in the first place. I realize this will be disappointing for some, but again, it never should have been.

I also want to specifically state that I am not targeting anyone, nor do I "blame" anyone who may have made or received such an enhanced bow or other ranged weapon.  This is not a punitive measure but a corrective one.

Please note that if anyone is found to be using an enhanced ranged weapon after April 15, 2011, the player will receive a temporary ban for exploiting.  If use of such weapons continues, subsequent bans may be made permanent.

If anyone has any questions about this, please ask below or via PM.  I hope everyone, whether affected or not, understands the reasons behind this and cooperates in good spirits.

In closing, I want to thank the conscientious player who make me aware of this, as well as thanks to orth for assisting in jogging our collective memories and working out the reason this was even possible.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Rise of the Long Storm
« on: March 03, 2011, 02:00:16 am »
Above the skies of Audiria, not even a day after the Cult dragons attacked the walls and main gates of the beleagured city the alarm bells ring yet again. Black smoke drifts above the desert sands creating long thin trails into the upper atmosphere in the clear bright morning sun from buildings still burning from the attacks the day before.

The bells ring loud and clear, those brave enough to venture out on the streets that morning run quickly for underground shelters in various buildings around the city that still stand. Once again pikemen, nervous and sweating already from worry and stress move to positions designated around the city to mount what minimal resistance they can offer against the sheer power and brute force of the Cult dragons that have brought their nation to a standstill and killed or made refugees of thousands of their countrymen.

A Synod Cabalist, one considered to be amongst an esteemed order of the elite of the Sand Sea Synods forces waits beneath the overhang of a building with thirty pikemen at his back. He waits with his hand shadowing his dark eyes against the already burning morning sun as he seeks the tell tale specks in the sky that will signal the position of the attacking dragons.

Soon he has them, coming from the west. He watches as they descend from up high a number of miles out from the city over the desert itself. He watches as they gather momentum tucking their wings into their bodies for greater speed generation. In that moment he cannot help but admire the sheer natural power and grace of the beasts but nor can he ignore their potential for destruction. Glancing back at the men behind him he can smell the fear in them. Many had not eaten properly for days, some had lost family and friends already and most were simply not trained for war such as this. Motioning for them to wait and stay hidden he continued to watch the west soon losing sight of the Dragons behind the city walls. At the speed they were coming he estimated it would only be minutes before they would reach the city walls and the attacks would resume.

Closing his eyes the Cabalist called on his ancestors to be with him and prayed as he had done so every day for the last few weeks as if it would be his last day on this world. Touching a sacred relic of his family to his forehead and his lips he walked from the place in which he had hidden and stood to the middle of the dusty street. He signalled his men to stay hidden. There, alone in the middle of the street he called on the Al'noth, words of power that wrapped and twisted around him in currents of energy and the flow of magic that he believed came from his ancestors.

Deep into his castings he heard the first roar and glimpsed the flash of a dark shape as one dragon hit the western wall and rock and debris, men and dust exploded into the air. Fire filled the air in the street ahead and more buildings burst into flame. Then there was a second flash as the other dragon landed on top of the temple to Azatta and breathed fire into the streets around it setting more buildings alight.

Within moments the morning had been shattered in a cacophany of bells, dragon roars, flying debris, fire and the sounds of the wounded or dying.

The Cabalist spoke words of power and ice fell from the skies striking the dragon breaking through the cities western wall. That wall held the gate to the desert road that led to North Fort. Then, more words and harsh crackling lightning arced out in raging blue tendrils to wrap around the creatures neck and wing.

The dragon roared its fury and launched heavy boulders torn from the walls itself at its attacker. The rocks thundered into buildings around the Cabalist and he glimpsed quickly that one struck the place where his men were waiting. He could hear their screams in the dust that now filled the street but forcing his mind to the task at hand their cries become just part of the background noise as he released himself to the magic and cast everything he could summon at the dragon.

Some attacks fizzled and brushed off the dragon, others ran like rain down its skin while others seemed to cause the creature harm. Enraged it advanced on the Cabalist down the street taking time to tear down and destroy everything around it, buildings were smashed into pieces, people who ran into its path were torn apart, the road was clawed into jagged chunks, and clouds of dust and sand were raised by the massive wings as the creature slowly advanced.

At the same time in another part of the city the other dragon that had caused destruction from atop the temple had moved into the streets and was systematically hunting for any people it could find, buildings were either torn down or turned into raging torrents of fire in its rampage.

All the while far into the desert to the west a storm was rising. Winds picked up across the desert and slowly formed a maestrom that rose slowly and gradually until far in the west the sky was filled with a tall whirling tornado of sand particles. All around it hot winds sucked cold air from far above, drawing it down into the spinning vortex at its centre. The sudden condensation causing an intense build up of electrical energy within its core that was realised by sharp and jagged flashes of lighting and deep peals of thunder. The storm gathered strength building higher and higher, wider and wider and then it began to move eastwards.

Oblivious to the rising storm the Cabalist watched his death advancing on him. The massive enraged Cult dragon had allmost reached him and been able to shrug off most of the energy he had thrown at it leaving him nothing in reserve. Waiting for the inevitable he closed his eyes as the dragons claw moved towards him and its violent roars filled his years.

Then...far above the storm from the desert broke over the city, the sky darkened all at once and the spinning vortex of sand enveloped the city. The violent wind blown sand cut vision to no more than a few feet, and the winds howled through the streets, lighting lashed out and struck at any object that rose above the main level of the city and thunder roared within its depths.

Blown off his feet the Cabalist was flung against a building by the force of the sudden wind, sand lashed at his exposed skin and forced its way into his eyes and mouth. The Dragon that had been about to strike him tried to leap into the whirling maelstrom to escape and was all at once smashed into the ground as two smaller forms tore into it. The Cabalist fought to blink away sand and fix his gaze on the confused images, his mind barely able to adapt to the sudden change in the air around him and the battle before him. Awe and shock filled him, disbelief rose in his heart and then the thought that his prayers to his ancestors had saved his life filled his mind.

Struggling to see or even move in the vicious sand storm he could barely make out the shapes tearing and ripping into the larger dragon, blood splattered on the ground as the larger dragon tried desperately to escape its attackers and gain some height. The combat was ferocious between the three combatants but it was clear the two smaller foes had gained the element of suprise over the larger. The Cabalist fought to regain his feet fighting against the fierce winds as the larger dragon managed to break away from its attackers and leap into the air. There, a massive discharge of lightning thundered into the creature and with a stench of burning flesh and a loud thump its lifeless form hit the ground. The shockwave from the blast sent the Cabalist back against the wall again where he collapsed unconscious.

Meanwhile the other dragon had noticed the approaching storm and leapt into the air to evade it. The storm seemed to surge towards the fleeing creature and just as it reached it a huge blue skinned shape emerged from the storm. Lightning issued forth from its open maw along with hundreds of tendrils of electrical energy from the storm it had created. The massive discharge enveloped the fleeing Cult dragon and when the flash dissipated dust and ash, all that remained of the dragon drifted slowly towards the desert floor.

With a deep throated roar the Long Storm circled the city, the storm he and his kin had created starting to dimish, leaving a thick layer of sand over the entire city.

With another deep roar, answered in kind by two smaller dragons, a gold and a slate coloured one that rose from the city to join him. The three dragons headed west once again.

And as the dust settled, the people emerged to behold the wonder of their salvation from the Cult dragons.

Rumour Has It / Odd goings on in Hurm
« on: February 28, 2011, 07:24:03 am »
// approximately 4 weeks before the most recent dragon attack in Audiria on the city defences.

The Regnant of Hurm, Saviar Morgensen has ordered all dry docks and fitting yards in Hurm cleared of everything bar the most recent orders from the Raven Trade Guild. Everything has been ordered cleared and prepared to receive ships for fitting out and repair.

People are wondering whats going on as the move constitutes a great deal of empty space in the shipyards around Hurm. No further information has been forthcoming but some suspect it might be related to the sudden departure of the Sea Tiger and three other Hurm Naval vessels in the dark of night less than a week prior.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / State of play on the War
« on: February 25, 2011, 06:28:37 pm »
//Over the last few 10 months of the war the following has occured in sequential order. Some of course have taken more time than others to complete but this is the general state of play and order of events.

The Blackford War Council implodes then reforms without Moraken to continue the role it was formed for,

Sederra has negotiated an alliance with Rael and Sucession and now faces destruction or being saved by accumulated forces on Dreger,

the Cult fleet bears down on Audiria,

two dragons keep Sederra locked down,

allied forces are busy sailing to Alhon and then marching to battle lines drawn up by the Blackford council and those on the ground in Hilm itself including Sir Lance and Lord Alexander,

Nesar has thrown off the shackles of the Cult with the help of the Corathites and Pyrtechonites,

PC forces seek the location of the Broken One,

the Cult Army in Vilsa with Cyn Chen marches on Nith,

a small Cult force drawn from those that marched on Sundance march towards Fort Miritrix,

the Sederran navy that left Audiria are smashed before even reaching the Cult fleet,

Cult forces secure southern Hilm and move towards the Fort of Last Hope from Sundance and Briardusk,

A very large Cult army has reached the border with Hilm having marched from Swarm lake and rumours are that Molvaren has been seen in this army.

A secondary Cult Army being led by Commander of the Drachs, Jaedan Siphe have marched from Briardusk towards Hilm Castle slowly so they can secure the lands north of Fort of Last Hope. Running battles have been occuring constantly with forces deployed from Hilm Castle to slow these advancing forces down. Heavy casualties have been taken on both sides but the allies have steadily lost ground to this army as it advances north.

Hilm castle has been preparing for the inevitability that they will be under seige within a few months by Cult armies from Swarm lake and those advancing northwards from Sundance.

Fort of Last Hope has also been preparing for Seige as Cult armies form the south secure southern Hilm and armies form Briardusk begin to cut off supply from all avenues except through the moutains to the east. This avenue only possible due to agreements made with the Shindalerians to guide supply ships through the reefs to shore near this location.

At the end of ten months;

Fort of Last Hope is about to beseiged (within the week),
Nith about to be attacked (within two weeks),
Fort Miritrix about to be attacked (within the month),
Audiria about to be attacked by a Cult fleet (within two weeks)
Castle Hilm about to be advanced on (over next 2 months)
A PC led assault on a place within Kuhl will be undertaken (2-3 months away)

// Please note time on layo for all intents and purposes of the PLot has slowed somewhat and may be out of sync with different events. As we move into the final stages time will slow even more in an ooc sense otherwise things don't make a lot of sense in the overall scheme of the war going on, if you know what I mean!

General Discussion / Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand
« on: February 25, 2011, 08:32:45 am »
As some of you might have heard you might have heard of the Earthquakes that have hit Christchurch.

Just to let you know that I am safe, I am in Wellington so no injuries here.

However Christchurch earthquakes have been really bad to the city.

To date there are 100 or so casualties including some  two young 6-7 month babies.

The city buildings are very badly damaged. Christchurch is experiencing aftershocks.

I have three videos that you may watch if you are wanting to find out whats going on (combined an hour in total of footage):

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - How it Unfolded - Part 1

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake 2011 - widespread damage, multiple victims and many unaccounted for

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - The Saddest Story - Part 2

Our international friends from USA/Australia/Japan have brought along search and rescue teams and helped out tremendously.

I just thought you might like to know whats going on in more detail just in case you saw on the news there.

Messages go out to known members and supporters of the Triple S. Willing members are requested at Blackford of Trelania to prepare for a trip to Sedera in order to engage the rampaging dragons. Further details to be provided upon arrival.

/// Feel free to PM me - this event is not set yet, and it may simply become attached to the Sederan defense quest coming up, but get out your dragon-slayer swords and your best armor. You're going to need them. ;)

Ask A Gamemaster / Tournament for a house?
« on: February 13, 2011, 10:42:47 am »
After the realization that I really haven't played Bjornigar for many RL years, I am preparing to delete the old codger in order to make room for some new blood.  What to do with his house has been a touchy subject for me.  While Willy does live there, my roommate never actually plays Willy, and Willy never paid Bjorn any rent, so why should he get a house for free?  To me it would be muling to hand a house over to the guy on the couch, and especially wasteful if that guy on the couch is never actually played anymore, in essence just another one of those "Zombie houses" out there that gather dust and bear the name of some guy nobody's ever heard of or seen logged in for the past 3-4 years.

I then considered simply vacating the house upon my deletion and putting it up for sale on the open market.  But then somebody with a whole lot of gold who really didn't need a house would buy it up, decorate it and never use it.  Somebody who already has multiple houses gathering dust.  Somebody whose only claim to it was that he had lots of cash on hand and was lucky (or well informed) enough to know exactly when and where it was going up for sale and buy it right there and then.  Or I could auction it up and the guy with 15,000,000 gp in his account and 5 houses to his name would wind up winning it.  I find just about every open-market option equally detestable.

SO it dawned on me to MAKE the new owner earn the house, and hold a player event tournament in the arena!  The most under-utilized, awesome thing we have on the server.  But single competition would be much the same result as the above options, the guy with 40 levels and 90,000,000gp in gear would win, and add to his 5 houses.  So I'm thinking... mixed team competitions.

What I propose is a tournament for Bjorns house in which teams of 3 must sign up.  These teams of 3 could be any class combination, except that they must be limited to levels 5-20.  Anybody less than level 5 shouldn't get a free house, anybody over level 20 should have enough money/resources/connections/oldfriendsoraltcharacterswhoneverplayanymorethatlettheirzombiehousesgatherdust to go buy their own.  Or at the very least characters over 20th level should have enough gold already to rent one of the many vacant rooms in the Open Arms Inn right across the street.

What would be the feasibility of running this?  First of all, would a prize as valuable as a house be allowed to be won in such a matter?  Since it was my own house, I immediately disqualify ANY of my own characters from the competition.  Also I would like to disqualify anybody who already owns one as well from being able to win it.  I want to see active players who would actually use it have an opportunity to earn it on as open a court as possible.  And most importantly, I want to see some spectacular arena competition with team tactics.

This is why I want teams of 3, levels 5-20.  This is so that mages don't have unfair advantage nor do fighters; there are enough combinations for infinite ways to win.  We could set the tournament months in advance, so people could actively recruit and train their teams in preparation, scope out about the competition, try to figure out their tactics in advance, etc.  Hopefully this would also give a goal for more people to actively hunt on the server, training in a most rocky balboa fashion.  Also to breathe life into forgotten characters of those of us who play epics.  "Level 21+ is disqualified you say? well let's see, there's this guy I made long ago..."

When the top team is victorious, they will be given 5 minutes in game to decide which character will bear the title of the house.  This can be done through negotiation of subletting, or combat AT ANY TIME during these 5 minutes.  This is to ensure added drama to the event, where you must pick your team from those you trust, or agree in advance to go last man standing route.  If at any time during the 5 minutes a vote is unanimous that one shall hold the title, then he does and is declared Number 1 Contender.  If they fight, then the last man standing is the Number One Contender.

The Number One Contender then must face the winner of the Losers Battle Royale!  This will be when we fill the ring with all the entrants to all previous bouts in the tournament, and let them go at it at the count of 3 for the last man standing.  Should all die at once due to massive area effect, then whoever is luckiest to be the last one fallen in the server battle-text will have one.  This person who shall wins the Losers Battle Royale then faces the Number One Contender.  So then the final match would be, one-on-one.

What are your thoughts on this format?

Rumour Has It / Darkness descends on Arnax
« on: February 11, 2011, 02:45:23 am »
Far away in distant Arnax tendrils of darkness begin to emanate from Tower Vereor. It starts at night so most people do not notice the blotting out of some stars.
The night feels eerily quiet, which is strange for the city of screams.

When the horizon starts to brighten by the impending dawn, early risers are the first to notice the now thick tentacles of darkness that now seem to grow out of the tower.

Around noon, almost half of the sky is dark and before the afternoon is out, the artificial night has fallen.

The Cult forces surrounding the Tower have been at high alert ever since the first tendril was soon and are waiting for what will happen next.

Then an angry red pulse bursts from the top of the tower, adding a menacing dark glow glow to the blackness.

All remains quiet.... for now....

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Rumors from Blackford Castle
« on: February 07, 2011, 08:06:20 am »
*There have been a couple tense days in the Blackford War Council rumored to be mostly centered about Lord Rael's offer.  After one day, supposedly Moraken set off a frightening display of magic and dismissed everyone.  The next day everyone reconvened, but for some reason it was dismissed again shortly, and the Queen declaring the Council Chambers off limits for the next day.*

Man:  "A woman shouldn'a talked ta no man like she done, specially not no mage like that.  Now yer tellin' me he done started packin' up all that magicky stuff an' is leavin'?  I don' blame 'im!  No woman shouldn'a talked ta no man like that.  She coulda cost us all our lives by tickin' him off!"

Woman:  "That ain' jest any woman Horrace, an don'cha be fergettin' what cooks yer meal ever'day!  Sides you men're all jest babies iffn ya cain' get yer feelin's hurt some."

Man:  "Betsy, I'm jest sayin'... "

Woman:  "Naw, you jest stick ta the barns where ya work an' I'll stick ta the kitchens in the castle.  I seen councils like this before where they don' do nothin' but argue fer the first few days, an' it won' be the last one neither.  Dif'rence is, these people're all tryin' ta fight a war an' their tensions're real high.  Norm'ly it's over silly stuff an' they're STILL high.  Give em all time ta come out with what they needa do.  The Queen wouldna brung all these people together if she thought they wouldn' get the job done.  Trust yer queen, an' no more fussin' else I ain' gonna tell ya any more o' what I heard.

Man:  "Fine... but if that woman cost us this war I'm gonna..."

Woman:  "Yer gonna what?  Poke her with a hay fork?  That'd be a sight."  She laughs at the thought

Man:  "Aww... shut it"  He grumbles and heads back off towards the barn.
