Rumour Has It / The Enzo
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:14:02 pm »
Over many a fire, at many a tavern table, by fountains in every city there is talk that The Enzo once again travels far and wide. When Wren hears these rumors he just nods and says "Maybe".

Rumour Has It / Wren leaves word....
« on: March 13, 2010, 07:04:36 pm »
Wren leaves word around Hilm and Mirtrix on where he can be found if anyone comes looking for him. He also leaves a message that they had best wear swords on their sides and have another in their hands.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / De-nerf Dev Crit thread
« on: December 17, 2009, 11:57:07 pm »
So here we go :)

Let me open with questions to the world developement team.

Why has dev crit been left nerfed when even more mass death spells have been added and powered up?

What is the difference between a mass death spell killing a group of bad guys in one round and dev crit killing a bunch of bad guys in one round?

I mean a fighter still needs all the caster buffs to run into a battle so dev crit will still be tied to the spell rest cycle so why is it being treated as over powered?

Many time we have had the discussion about melee vs caster balance issues. Some good stuff has come out of those discussions. I dont want to bring any of that back up again. But I do want to relay a little info. Wren was out with a mage the other day and they were fighting things. The mage had to log off and did so before resting, so Wren still had all the buffs (GWM, STR, CON, DEX, SR, TS, mage armor, haste, and a few others) up. So I took him to fight a bunch of giants that would normally mash him into a pulp. He did very well, he defeated them all but still had a use a few healing potions in the mix.

This got me thinking. On other servers I have seen full array of buffing potions, scrolls, and wands made available and at affordable prices. Scrolls made by higher level mages were cast at higher levels and there were potions that went up to level 15. The shop potions went up to level 10 (not all but at least the ability ones for sure) and the crafted potions went up to 15.

Now of course having casters to buff you up and rain magic/holy/song death down on your foes is always the best way to go. But how much would it hurt to have access to buffing potions, scrolls, and wands that had some decent power to them? I am only talking about buffing so for melees they still have to get down a dirty :)

The best potions we have are Speed and Invisibility. The Layo Speed potions run out so fast they are mostly used for emergency escape purposes. The invisi ones last longer but they are expensive so they are also saved for emergency use. If you have a very high UMD then scrolls are ok but they have two drawbacks first the mid to high level are priced so high that regular usage is not cost efficient and second many of them are cast at low levels so as to make them useless. As for wands we have very few that are useful at higher levels.

How hard would it be to add buffing potions, scrolls, and wands at least to the shops for a while to see how it goes?

General Discussion / active crafter list question
« on: December 08, 2009, 07:06:27 pm »
Say you hit the wonderful state of "everything in your craft is trivial for you to make". This means you dont gain XP anymore for that craft. Does crafting things that are trivial still keep you on the active crafters list? or will you get knocked out once you have not gained XP in your craft for x amount of time?

General Discussion / Wren is still a young elf
« on: September 17, 2009, 03:26:45 pm »
Wren is almost 160 years old. When I started him he was 100 (got approved on that as the younger brother of a already existing PC). He has been around for 3 years 8 months which outs me playing on layo for just over 4 years. It has been a fun 4 years :)

Rumour Has It / Great forest giants
« on: June 13, 2009, 02:55:37 pm »
Word spreads out from Mirtirx (carried mostly by Wren Thendor). Warning to all who have been making war with the giants of the great forest. They are now working together and setting ambushes. Be warned they know how to use the terrain as well as we do. Do not go into the giant lands under manned. You risk your neck if you do.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Wren travels to Kuhl
« on: November 12, 2008, 05:34:02 pm »
Wren travels to Kuhl to see for himself this "new Khul". He goes dressed in plain but nice clothes and poses as a solder turned merchant. He goes to spend time among the people and get a feel for what they are feeling. He will frequent inns, taverns, merchant halls, and temples to see what he can learn. He does not overly question people but strikes up polite conversation and sees where it leads. He tires to use what he learned when he was in The Network and information was their goal. He also uses what Ferrit has taught to "blend" into the darker parts of the cities he visits. If he hears anything of the Tarnished Death he will take note but not seem too interested.

//let me know if this can be done by PM or IG. thanks.

Layonara Server / Donation Tracker request - Update: Cumulative Total
« on: October 28, 2008, 04:14:43 pm »
//I put this in another thread but I think it needs a discussion on its own.

Will the thermometer reset each month? or better yet as funds are used can they be subtracted from the thermometer so that we know where we are in costs and rollover each month and what more is needed?

So if the monthly cost is 120 and we have a donation base of 200 then at the start of the next month the tracker should read 80 meaning at least 40 more must come in.

thanks

Fixed Bugs / Spawn on a TA
« on: October 07, 2008, 07:46:28 am »
A while ago we returned some lost SS due to a spawn that was put right on a TA in the thunder peaks. It is the one right after the ropes. The SS were refunded and the spawns were removed due to it being a death trap. The spawns are back and it is just a bad place for a spawn. Before you can even react you have been pounded a bunch of times.

General Discussion / quest pet peeve
« on: October 04, 2008, 08:12:03 pm »
I was reading one of the new GMs intros and it brought something to mind for me. Resting is very controlled on quests due the time lost issue and what could be happening while the party rests. I understand this and agree with it wholly. But in the same sense and for the same reasons the trend on many quests of over questioning NPCs, excessive planning sessions, and standing around talking for what sometimes is many IG days needs to also be taken into account. If something is happening that needs a group of heros to stop it and that group cant get past a puzzle or come up with a plan in short order then they should miss the mark. It is the same thinking as why resting needs to be controlled on quests "time is of the essence". Thoughts from anyone?

The Dragon Storm Campaign / Wren starts to put things together
« on: September 20, 2008, 12:26:35 am »
Wren has heard of the demon issues in Kuhl and has even had a run in with a half demon just trying to find a safe place to live. He has heard of some dragon cult trying to capture or kill dragons. He had heard of some kind of ancient poison that can be used to kill dragons and that maybe had some strange effects on people touched by it. And lastly he was confronted by a woman that exuded power. She questioned him about the place where Blood fell and how the crater was formed. He told her the story as he knows it and she told him that he needed to get his facts straight. She seemed to hint that maybe the blood pool was not destroyed or that it was not the cause of the destruction. Then she called on some man that told us to leave. We left he seemed like a serious guy. Wren wants to investigate this over all the other things he has heard about. He has spoken about it with a few folks but none that could shed any light on it. He would like to form an investigation team and go down into the crater to see if there is anything to help shed some light on this.

General Discussion / Plot Quest? Maybe I am wrong on this
« on: September 19, 2008, 11:17:18 pm »
or maybe I am just missing it. But when we had the Blood plot line there was a lot of information out there about it. No one was keeping it secret and the RP about it happened quite a bit out in areas where others could join in and learn about it. Sure we had Ozy and at the time a young halfing bard named Acacea that kept us all up to date. But still it seems to me that this current plot line is being RPed about behind closed doors, so to speak, and is one big secret.

The main plot quest is supposed to be the thing that draws current and new players into the happenings of the world. That cant happen if it is being kept a secret. I hope I am wrong and it is just me who is missing it. But if I am not wrong then I cant see how this will work in the end. Will there be a call to arms? and if so who are the dumdums that will answer it without saying "hey you knew about this for a long time and did not say anything? how can you now be trusted"?

Once again I hope I am off base here but I have been asking around and very few seems to know what is going on. Wren was lucky the other day and got to hear some of it. It sounds like there is a lot going on. But that only a few really know about it. So that sounds more like a GCDQ then a world plot.

I would love to set up a poll:

Do you know much about the plot quest?
Yes
No

Just my two cents.

BTW no dissections please this is just my opinion and I don't want to have to defend it. It is what it is. If you feel I am just missing it then just tell one of my PCs about the plot stuff or hold some open sessions where folks can come a hear about it.

General Discussion / A Happy farewell
« on: September 15, 2008, 01:35:54 pm »
I am stepping down from the GM team. It has been so much fun being a GM for all of you. Thank you all for the energy that you have brought to my quests. I am doing this now because I feel I dont have the time to commit to quests that it takes and needs to be a good GM. I will still be playing though and maybe more so ;).

Being a GM is not an easy task on Layo. Not only is there so much you need to know but the player base is very sophisticated and that means you had best be on your toes at all times as a GM. By the end of some of my quests I would just log and pass out from the amount of multi tasking it took. Please keep in mind that most of the time there is only one GM there and he or she is trying to track all text (many times in multi locations), use a plethora of tools to call forth this beast or that NPC, play the NPCs, turn area spawns on and off, balance and re balance encounters, and set the mood and stage. All of this is after a couple of hours of set up. Be nice to them they work really hard.

Thank you all,
Jrizz - Happy
