Fixed Bugs / Bow training
« on: September 16, 2019, 06:40:37 am »
Description:  When using bow training the stacking of the enchanting oils are not working correctly.

Each execution of the bow training command (=c train) should  cause 1 enchanting oil in inventory to be consumed.

The training is successful but the entire stack of oil is taken  instead of just 1 vial .

I had a stack of 10 that used in one instance.

I split the next batch of oil prior to use, worked correctly.

Bug Reports / Re: Taunt action
« on: September 11, 2019, 07:45:42 am »
I do not believe this is a bug at all

Taunt is a separate (not a combat action/mode.)

Therefore it is necessary to 'drop out of combat'  to complete the Taunt  action.
This has the consequence of immediately making the character 'flat-footed', with any inherent penalties, until you resume combat. (or another action)

Development Journals and Discussion / The Road to Katherian - by 'Red'

 Chapter 1 - A Gathering in Center -

I had been in Center but a few days and was still as they say, getting the lay of the land.

After a bit of respite in the local watering hole I headed over to the fire pit near the edge of the wood. The pit seemed a kind of natural meeting place, perhaps imbued with some sort of magical force designed to attract colorful folk. However the magics had seemingly failed of late as I was the only one tending the fire and warming the logs . But no matter, if none showed I could serenade Ausir with song, and maybe inspire myself.

As I got closer it seems the magics had returned in full force! The gods had bestowed a bounty of varied characters such as is rarely gathered elsewhere in the realms. Despite their obvious disparate raiment and racial differences they all seemed at ease with each other.

As I got closer it was apparent they were contemplating a journey of adventure and wealth. Unfortunately that talk abruptly ceased as they turned their attentions to the stranger – myself. The woman Delia , clad in the color of the wood was quite friendly and flirtatious. To my delight, She christened me 'Red Tail' (later shortened to just 'Red' ) in honor of my, apparently not fashion forward hair style.

A metal clad elf was there as well. His name is Tharivian. He has a hearty laugh and a curious habit (which here I first observed here) of apparently drinking through a reed so as to not remove his helm.

Near the edge of the group, a greataxe resting easilyon his shoulder, was a hearty dwarven warrior clad in the traditional colors of his god Vorax. He was introduced as to me as Borbre Barradok. For the rest of this tale he shall be known as Sir Borbre,

A gnome priestess of Katia, named Fern also honored us with her presence and blessings. She seemed the most 'grown up' of this motley crew despite her short physical stature.

After much bantering and surprisingly little (to me) preparation the group decided to set out to test their mettle against trolls and other denizens of swamps to the south. There was a hope that precious gems, ore and other wealth in huge quantities to be had if a certain cavern could be found and successfully breached.

And so I, Red, set off with these new found companions. I tried not to let on that despite all their experience and preparations I could not have been less prepared (or experienced). For my pack was nearly empty. No bandages, no healing potions, but a loaf of cornbread , a few bottles ale. I was armed with  a skinning knife, a woodcutters axe and a borrowed shortbow. I had, in my zeal to be off, forgotten that a bow w works much better if one has arrows!

But I did have the most important of tools:  parchment, ink, and a quill that I might make notes and bear witness to all the great deeds that destiny was sure to bestow upon us.

So, with songs  to lighten our steps,  we set off for glory.

To be continued...

Development Journals and Discussion / Notes of a Woodsman
« on: July 20, 2016, 10:53:57 am »
-- A View from Center -- I sometimes wonder if Center was created by Aragen himself for surely it is the most efficient conduit ever devised for concentrating rumor, conjecture, fact and speculation. I am sure there are wise ones that can distill this into usable knowledge. I imagine the process is little different from that of a gemsmith working raw minerals into glittering gems. More expeditions of 'would be world conquerers' have gone forth from here than anywhere else. For all come to Center sooner or later.I am no different.I have these last few years met all types here. Most are quite forgettable, some, for better or worse, not so.A few (in no particular order):An elven? wizard El?.. my memory is vivid yet hazy. We (and a few others) travelled to far off islands to explore but like so many expeditions our return journey was by route of the bindstones. An arrogant metal clad warrior, hauty, boastful ..quite put out that insignificant me did not instantly recognize his name. For all his martial prowess he had the perception of a wooden plank. He had quite convinced himself that I was a dark elf. An accomplished duelist (Phyresse), helped me more than I could have hoped. The 'man' (he alludes to more), Farros, who can wield his voice as a weapon. (I had of course heard tales of those in Krashin with such power but one ...well Center is a much easier journey!)Tori. A most competent scout and a deadeye with her crossbow. I made her some fine bolts and she in turn gave me a fine ring which shall be most useful. I must look her up when I venture to Alindor. Said ? (or did I overhear it?) she could be found at the Silver Buckle tavern (hard by the port in Mariner's Hold.)A wizard I know only as 'Sib' ..He has been most gracious and helpful. The Cleric of Roferian, Sir Daniel. A kindly soul who seems at times as rigid and brittle as his armor. Yet he is full of contradictions (is he aware of them? or oblivious?) I suspect he is fully aware. I think that for one of such stature to be drawn to a fire circle just reinforces my thoughts of what role Center has in the world. But I like the priest. I think he is a help beyond measure to many and a comfort to many more. I suppose his laws and codes and rules make it easier (for him and others) to know how to view the world and others. I have no such luxury. I've watch Daniel struggle at a much more mundane personal level. He apparently is burdened by being part of this enormous family that are all wrapped up in themselves and their ultimately petty differences. (I've run across several members of this fractious clan)Rebecca. The daughter of Daniel and his greatest? torment. She has, it seems, returned from isolation (as a youth) in North Point. She seems fascinated with elves: travels constantly with a metal clad one; shows up in Center with another, dressed as a doxy and touting her newly found prowess with blade, alluding to Mist. (as much to shock Daniel perhaps?) I actually travelled a bit with her a while back. I made her a gift of both a fine blade I had found and an amulet that might be of use. I suspect she has since hawked them both.Annie Firefly . Another legend come to life! A Brownie! I have been blessed to have her travel with me. A most accomplished sorceress and cook and just plain fun to have around.Neema. None has affected me as she has. Not sure the how or the why of it, but there it is. She has suffered much of which I know little. I suspect there is much that I will learn in time. At her bidding, I have used my skill to fashion her a fine staff and clothing to specifications she gave me. Unbidden I also made her a fine hood. I shared a poem with her. She seemed delighted with it. So much so that I took up pen and scroll and scribed it for her (a difficult task when your desk is a table in the Bullseye!)

Rumour Has It / Destination Vale
« on: October 22, 2015, 12:48:35 pm »
A solitary figure, cloaked and hooded in drab colors , steps tentatively out of a portal near Prantz. After  pausing to survey the walls of the city the traveller approaches several  different people,  apparently making inquiries. The conversations are very brief. Either the ones accosted  have no answer or do not wish to be seen talking to a stranger. The fourth passerby, however, is apparently more receptive. A few minutes of aminated conversation ensue, accompanied by a lot of pointing and gestures. The conversation ends with a nod and a quiet 'thank you' . Walking stick in hand, the figure shuffles off, at an unhurried pace, on the road that winds past  Lake Dalos .

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Travel within Game
« on: March 30, 2015, 03:02:07 pm »
The new pawnshop quest system(which I think is great) has made me more aware of how difficult travel can be to some locales in the game. A package delivery to Fort Thunder comes to mind. It would seem the only options are to fight, go invisible, or forego the trip. Possibly another option could be added in selected cities/routes .Add a  'caravan'(portal) in say  for example Arnex and Fort Thunder. It would, I think  cost coin for a character ( could a party go ?) to use this option. I don't know if the coding would allow such  but it would be interesting if this caravan ( portal) was not 100%  foolproof :Perhaps there would be a 5 0r 10% chance that it 'fails' .. in which case you are then ported to an area to face the bandits or whatever the threat might be (possibly with some NPC 'caravan guards' as friendly. This is similar to the old Baldurs Gate 1 area transition routine.I will admit I have no insight to the coding involved , or even possible or the level of interest, but there it is.Thanks
