NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Travel within Game

The new pawnshop quest system(which I think is great) has made me more aware of how difficult travel can be to some locales in the game. A package delivery to Fort Thunder comes to mind. It would seem the only options are to fight, go invisible, or forego the trip. Possibly another option could be added in selected cities/routes .Add a  'caravan'(portal) in say  for example Arnex and Fort Thunder. It would, I think  cost coin for a character ( could a party go ?) to use this option. I don't know if the coding would allow such  but it would be interesting if this caravan ( portal) was not 100%  foolproof :Perhaps there would be a 5 0r 10% chance that it 'fails' .. in which case you are then ported to an area to face the bandits or whatever the threat might be (possibly with some NPC 'caravan guards' as friendly.This is similar to the old Baldurs Gate 1 area transition routine.I will admit I have no insight to the coding involved , or even possible or the level of interest, but there it is.Thanks

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Spell Visual Effect

Would it be possible to supress the visual representation on persisent  'buff' spells such as  :Spell Resistance, Protection from Elements, Freedom of Movement  etc  ?I find that these can become quite annoying in moderate sized parties and/or group melee situations.I know of  one NWN site that does this . The visual representation disappears  a short time after casting (30 sec or so)Of course you still have the full spell effect on you and can see by the icons on your console.I think it improves the aesthic of the game as well as you can see your party members in their chosen garb.I have been told that the server also benefits in reduced computer load/ overhead. Thanks

Fixed Bugs / Pipe Smoking

Pipe smoking does not appear to be working.When I use my pipe, i get the character animations but the bonuses do not seem to be taking affect.I am using a Mahogany Smoking Pipe ( nothing new) I have filled my pipe and used it with 3 types of weed :Flatbottom, Plains Exceptional, Golden Splendor.

Ask A Gamemaster / calculating an item level

I recently aquired a  'Tome of  Greater Strength III'  which, apparently adds +3 strength to any other item.I think (although I am  not 100 % certain) that this is applied in the same manner as an elemental resistance or enhancement.When I use this  I believe it will (radically) alter the  'level required to use'  of  the item it is applied to .How can I know what the new required level would be ?I really don't want to create a beautiful new item that is beyond my means of using because the level has been bumped way up.So, I'm wondering if there is a formula someone can point me to ?Or could a GM help me out by  doing some  'off line' dry run  simulation/creations ? Any other thoughts/ideas  would be appreciated.Thanks

Would it be possible to have the Points of Interest be more desciptive ?

A bit of text perhaps at each one that conveys it's significance.

A further thought would be to reward a character with the completion of a 'series' of Ponits of Interest ( ie  Mistone Badge ?) with an increase in lore ability of 1 point.
 If this could not be done directly , perhaps  it could be accomplished via an item ( akin to an elemental resist) that the character could then add to an existing equipped item .

World Leader Development Quests (WLDQ's) / Jharl

Summoned by a dragon Jharl wandered into Hlint from the region now known as the Hammererbounds in Seplar 1387. //August 2005

From a barbarian society that had had minimal contact with the more civilized regions of Mistone, Jharl discovered that he had to develop new skills to make his way in the world. He soon took to  a learning a  'civilized' trade, and became a brewer and cook.

He also began to explore Hlint and environs and soon discovered he had a fair voice.. one that he was determined to use to his advantage ..and so he began to sing in combat to both bolster his own confidence as well as that of his companions. This eventually led to his becoming a skald ..able to use his voice to inspire those with him in some unique ways.

His combat abilities were and are those might be expected from one raised without formalized martial training. He favors heavy weaponry and typically wields a  war hammer, great axe or spear.

Jharl's skill as a brewer let to a fateful encounter one evening on the docks of Port Hempstead. Derrick Loadson, proprietor of the Arms in Leringard hired Jharl on as a bartender. For close to the next 25 years ( 18 mos RL)  Jharl could be found at the Arms. He soon became a partner in the venture, for a time even running the Arms by himself when others could not be there due to there own adventures.

Jharl also became an apprentice tailor to Katrien Hommel and helped her with her commercial venture known as Kat's Creation.

He is the longtime lover and compnion to Sophia. Sophia taught Jharl how to speak and write elven .

He became a devotee to Lucinda and was recognized as ' Beloved ' at the Affimation ceremony held at Spellgard on Febra 15, 1395.

On Jharl's CDQ he returned to his old tribe in the wilderness. Times had gotten especially tough and a crisis of leadership was at hand. His old tribe was in a serious decline and faced extinction. He was able,with the help of his companions, to broker a new alliance amongst the 7 tribes of the North strengthened by an exchange of warriors and the young that they might  become united.


He has particpated in the following CDQ's:

Derrick Loadson and the search for Karracks Armory

Jet and his challenge to his old master

Tia Sar'ru' : the end of a plague.

Mikey and his search for his heritage.


The following  major quests :

Angel's Tear  ( active pqrticipant for a year +)

Explorer's  part I and II :  He took a key role in helping, via his singing , uncovering the lost city of Xar.
 He was  partially responsible for the disaster near the Wolfwood when a rift was created .

Helped recover the plague antidote after  Hurm fell ill

and several other standalone quests.

WLDQ's :

Honora and the 'making things right'  in Erilyn .

Katrien and the ill fated expedition to rescue princess Kayana,

Katrien and her heritage.

Plot quests :

Participated in the defense of Fort Vehl when Blood attacked .

The council and expedition to Roldem to recover the soul ahead of Blood.

Ventured to the planes to receive the gift of the Tol prior to the great darknes.

Received a key to Ozlo's Tower


The single greatest quest having an impact on Jharl was the attempted  rescue of the princess. Although it ultimately was not a success , it changed him forever. Because of this , Jharl : 1) lost most faith in Lucinda ( rightly or wrongly he felt abandoned by her)  2) lost interest in the Arms and has since devoted most of his time to charity in the form of the Foundation guild, which was formed as a result of this expedition . ( He is a director of the Guild) and 3 ) his character's music changed because of the events.***

*** In the midst of this quest an update occured on Layo , with a major revision in the Skald class. Because of the major changes involved , I was allowed a complete rebuild of the character. The change went into affect while Jharl was being held for execution in prison. The old skald abilities ( mostly inspirational party 'buffs' ) were replaced with songs that weaken or affect the enemy. I have since roleplayed this coincidence of introduction as causing the change in Jhar's abilities..a result of the trauma of his and his friends desperate situation.



How do you see your character being or becoming a World Leader?

He is dismayed by conditions in the north of Mistone,  his homeland, the Hammerbounds.  The giants and ogres seem to be thriving there and even the main paths are not safe. The dwarven are secure  in their enclave but they are not protecting the roads. It is possible that Jharl could be instrumental in reversing this bad situation by rallying his people and  forging new alliances in this area to change the situation for the better.


What sort of position and/or title do you envision for your character?

Leader of the Northern tribes of Mistone perhaps.

Fixed Bugs / Bronze Darts

Bronze darts do not appear to be giving the extra physical (piercing) damage they are supposed to.

When I equip my character with either copper or bronze darts, the stats. ( as viewed in the character sheet ) are identical.

The stats do change when iron darts are equipped. (showing +1 damage and to AB on the character sheet)

I tried this IC with several different 'batches' of bronze darts, and Serrissa's character (Ferrit) also did as well, to confirm what  I was seeing.
