Ask A Gamemaster / New Character Submissions
« on: October 29, 2018, 08:52:55 pm »
Hi there, been a long time. My kids are getting a bit older and have expressed interest in creating a character and playing with their daddy :) It would be fun, but question. I assume new characters are still being approved? My kids are 10 and 8, a bit young, so thought I'd ask opinions if we think Layo is still age appropriate for them.

Character Biography:

Tipu, or Tip for those that got to know him was born a small child even by hafling standards. He was born to a loving family and tribe in the Woods of Tranquility. His childhood was a fairly typical childhood for a Ghostwise halfling living in the treetops playing and learning about the cycle of nature. He learned at an early age how his village and the forest were one, each dependent on the other and all the creatures within tied to one another. There was no one without the other.

Tipu's tribe was very caring and treated all like members of their family. It was one big family. One child, however, had been problematic and was not melding with the tribe very well. On one occassion, this child (who was much bigger than most) had just made a new whip. He was feeling particularly crule this day and decided to pick on one of the smaller children in his tribe. Tip was unfortunately in his line of sight and was foraging apart from the other villagers on this day. The bully came up behind Tip and tested out his whip on him. Tip let out a wail, but was too far from others to hear. The bully continued to whip Tip until he was bloody, but Tip would not lay down, and got back up swinging with little affect time and again. Tipu's father returned from his foraging and then heard the beating. He ran as fast as he could to find his son standing and swinging his little fists as he was whipped over and over. Tipu's father came upon them and the larger boy noticed the father approaching and ran away in fear. Tipu collapsed to the forest floor. His father ran to him picking him up in his arms saying "My little tiger. Your body can not contain your spirit. I hope it never does.". The bully child was taken to task, and after the inability to address his issues was expelled from the tribe forbidden to return. Tipu's wounds healed, but left some nasty scars that resembled strips accross most of this body. During his Ritual of Naming, he and his tribe decided to accentuate those scars by tatooing those strips such that it resembled a Tiger's pattern. From that day forward he was known as Tipu (a crude approximation for the sign language for tiger or lion).

Tipu grew to be fine young ghostwise halfling, was kind to others and respected the ways of the forest. He was most at home with the creatures of the forest. Many days he climbed down from his treetop house and lay on the forest floor communing with the critters of the forest. Many days, as the sun fought through the treetops, he would fall asleep in its rays. In his dreams, he was always one of the creatures of the forest. Sometimes a cat, sometimes a wolf, sometimes a bear. When he woke he was always sad that it was not true. In fact, this was when he felt the most natural.

Tip's village celebrated the creatures of the forest every summer. They wore head dresses of their spiritual animals during many days of rituals, eating and dancing. Tip's tribe rountinely invited local druidic tribes to join them in their rituals. Tip was always facinated by the druid's ability to commune with the animals of the forest. It was almost like they could speak to them. Tip took such an interest that some of the druids would spend dedicatd time with Tip showing him the language of the animals. Tip was a nutural and contined to develop these skills as he grew to be a young man. As Tip approach adulthood, their tribe was preparing for their annual celebration. On the day of the celebration, a band of gnolls attacked the villagers while they were celebrating on the forest floor. Many of the village were killed that day. Those that survived were able to scramble to the treetop homes. Tipu and his father were amongst those that made it to the treetops. Unfortunately, Tipu's mother did not make it. Tipu had a very hard time with this and began to question his identity. He realized more must be done to protect all the creatures of the forest and Tipu's father encouraged him to explore his innerself by undergoing the Ritual of Change. Soon after Tipu was sent on his way to explore the world outside the Woods of Tranquility to re-discover his inner balance.

Character Submissions / Xìngzhì Willow

Xìngzhì Willow

Character Class: Druid/Shifter
Character Race: Elf
Character Sub-Race: Woodelf
Character Gender: Male
Character Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Character Birthplace: Ulam Forest
Character Biography:

Xing grew up in a little village on the outskirts of the Ulam Forest. It was a simple
place full of trees and brooks running through. Xing's childhood was carefree. He mostly
ran around and played in the trees with the other children of his village. Many did not
wear garmets during most of their childhood years. Xing was no exception. In fact, when Xing
grew older he never understood the need for clothing at all. However, when he came of age he
accepted that he must wear some clothing to be taken seriously, but he always wore the least
possible. Never dawning the full leathers that his peer male woodelfs would wear. His aversion
to clothing also manifested in an aversion to using weapons for sparing and defense. He had a
certaint reverance to the complexities of he human body and always believed that there could
be no better weapon. He did make excpetions during hunts unsing a simple bow from time to time,
but this was a rarity.

Xings young adult years were spent learning all the miracles of nature and how to be its stewart.
This become his greatest passion, and permeated everything aspect of his life. He learned that the
forest gives life and that he in return must give life to the forest. This was the cycle and was at
the center of everything he believed.

He was content and in want of nothing. This all changed when on a beautiful autumn day full of sun
and a fresh breeze, he was sparing with a few of the young men in his village. They all chose their
favorite weapons and styles. Some chose the staff, others the club, while others would choose the
whip. Xing chose only his body, his hands, knees and feet. He had been training with some of the
elders in the village and had become quite capable. In fact, on this day, he had beaten all challengers
and was waiting for another when through the forest came a band of giants after blood. They easily
outnumbers the villagers and were slaughtering them. Xing was able to defeat one, and then another,
but by the time he turned around again most of his village had been killed and destroyed. Xing held
back his desire to avenge his family and friends, and instead took to the tree tops to escape the
carnage. He could do nothing in that moment. In the weeks that followed, he vowed that he would never
forget and that he must defend all the forests and their children accross Layonara.

Hi everyone. I have been over seas for the past three years and thought I'd say hello. Hope everyone is doing well. Its been very difficult to get IG due to time diffs and other responsibilities, but I return to the States this summer. I'm curious if there are still folks that get IG regularily or if its mainly for scheduled events nowadays. Is there any particular time when people get IG? Evenings North America time? jade

General Discussion / Ancients Legacy Performance
« on: January 24, 2015, 02:39:40 pm »
Hey Gang,Sorry I had to bail on the quest today. The lag was just so bad on my end, it was unworkable. I suspect it has something todo with my terrible network connection. I am unable to get anything decent in my particular subburb of Prague. It was great to see all the familar faces, and the passion still there. Keep it up. Hopefully one day I can rejoin you again.

Ask A Gamemaster / Hide in Plain Sight
« on: December 25, 2013, 08:44:20 am »
I noticed today that certain types of clothing (those that give off too much light) prevent the Ranger's Hide in Plain Sight ability. Through process of illimination it turned out to be Tane's Exceptional Cloak of Pather (with Electric II protection on it). Is this as designed? Thanks.

Ask A Gamemaster / Shattered Weapon
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:46:13 pm »
I guess I always thought this was a myth, but it actually happened to me this evening. Can anyone help us understand what causes a weapon to be shattered. What types of things will shatter a weapon when you hit them? And what is the process? Is there a roll, or just a count of the number of times you hit something hard?

Thanks.

Ask A Gamemaster / Scare and Still Spell
« on: November 30, 2012, 03:22:39 pm »
I know this is one of those NWN minutia that nobody in their right mind should care about, but just wondering if I am overlooking something.

I've noticed that the 1st level spell Scare can not be Stilled? Anyone know why that might be?

Thanks.
