General Discussion / It feels like more then a few months have passed
« on: October 21, 2006, 03:51:42 pm »
It's been a few months, hasn't it?  Since I've last played?  Heh, I can't even remember.  It feels like years though.  I've missed playing here, and hopefully I'll be able to start again some time this next week. :D

When I first got this belt it said it had a level 16 requirement.  Yesterday that requirement was gone, and against my better judgement I equiped it on my character. :P  Now I can't login due to having an illegal item equiped.  Awhile back I saw a post that had a address for a server that we could log into and uneqiped the illegal items.  Is that server still around?

General Discussion / Regarding todays quest
« on: March 12, 2006, 09:52:35 pm »
Can someone help me fill in the lag-holes? :)

Even though I attended the quest I only got around third of what was going on because of the lag.

At the start the Lady came, or so someone told me, and said something to send all of us to some bridges.  What did she say that made 40+ people all head off in one direction?  Because of the lag and not understanding why my character was were she was really ruined the quest for me.  I couldn't find a motive for her to follow along, and she's not the type to blindly follow the leader. :)

Once we got to the bridges I lagged really bad.  When I finally got to the final bridge my client locked up for like five minutes at a time until we went to the Planes Server.  From what someone told me a Shadow gave Rhizome something and then we climbed a tree to some shrine.  Then at the shrine something happened and a portal opened.  Heh.. I missed all the dialoag at this part.

After we logged into the planes to the Planes Server I ended up relogging because no ones models were displaying.  That helped lower my lag a lot, but I still missed a few bits of the story here and there.  I was able to piece parts of the story together from what happened at the final part of the quest but wasn't really able to participate...

So, does anyone feel like filling in these holes for me?  Or did anyone log the chat form the quest and willing to share it?

Wild Surge Inn / A note written in Elven
« on: February 28, 2006, 02:19:35 pm »
Kutya'I walks into the inn and looks around nervously.  She spots the board where people post messages and in a quicked pace she walks to it.  She reaches into her pack and pulls out a pre-written note then pins it to the board.  She then just as quickly leaves the inn.  The note reads as following.*

An anira tyalael el mefala.  E laam amirilan aey wdw ane anira filnyvamla el anira ilmail nyccaw Anira Vefcel Amillaanala.  Oemafilccelv aniras omms fairelw anira irecc ela lean elca il vmailan welamalatyanyan oem lilanyma, ean'la alclae nyeammwca. *The note is unsigned.*

//Translated for those people that can read Elven.

To the person in dark robes.  I saw what you did to the badgers in the area called The Goblin Wastes.  Fireballing them from behind the hill is not only a great disrespect for nature, it's also cowardly.  Do not let me catch you doing this again, or your body will be the one feeding the soil and maggots.

General Discussion / This truly is the best RP-based server for NWN
« on: November 06, 2005, 08:28:00 pm »
And I can honesltly say that now.  In the past few months I've spent a lot of time trying out other RP servers and Layonara is with out a doubt, no questions asked, the best RP server out there.  I just got done playing on another RP-server that came highly recommended and I'm sitting here asking myself how they can consider themselves RP-based.  Not a single person there is there to RP.  Not even the DMs.

Anyways.  I just wanted to say thanks to the DMs, GMs, and of course the players.  Thanks for making this server what it is.  My long search to find a server to call home is finally over. :)

Development Journals and Discussion / Thoughts of a Nameless Druid
« on: October 20, 2005, 09:59:00 pm »
Since my character has no need to keep a journal I thought I'd write her thoughts here.

*While in Hlint she sits down under a tree and closes her eyes.  While in a meditated state she sees past events of her life after she came to this land called Mistone*

So much has happened since I've come to this town. I don't even feel like I'm the same person I was before I left my forest.  Sometimes I long for that life I left behind.  It seems so simple compared to the new life I have here.  Though I don't have any regrets in coming here, I can't help but wonder if it was the right decision; no I know it was the right one.  Something threatens to enslave this very world and I need to make sure that this doesn't happen.  I wish I could find Ly'Sylria.  I miss talking with her.  It's funny, I came here with the intent to do what I needed to do and not form any bonds with anyone, but she's different.  From the moment I saw her standing before me her brow bleeding I knew that we were meant to be friends.  She's so much like me, and to be honest it scared me at first.  I never once thought I'd form a bond with someone as fast as I did with her.  So quickly it happened that to this day I still feel a bit confused about it.  It's been so long though since I last saw her.  If I didn't receive that vision of her a few nights back I would be really worried for her.  I know our paths will cross again, so that brings me comfort.  Now that I think about it, it's been awhile since I've last seen Nith'wiel also.  I hope he's safe.

I can't believe what just happned.  Here I was walking through the forest these Humans have named The Highforest when I saw a band of Goblins!  Before I could ask them why they've come here one of them shot some wood at me!  I couldn't beleive this.  Here I am unarmed like my, doctrine dictates, and one of them still saw me as a threat.  I helped a Boar that was fighting them when I saw a band of people gathered in hiding.  So I do what any good protector of a forest would do and go up and ask them why they've brought Goblins to the forest.  I feel so foolish for not seeing a hole in the ground that was in my path...I fell into this hole before I even got the chance to ask them.  I literary fell on top of a group of adventures.  Confused I asked them why they were there, but in my confusion I didn't hear their replies.  All I know is they were seeking something.  All I knew is I had to get out of this cave.  So not having much of a choice I went along with them.  I think those Goblins I saw came up into the forest from the hole that was in the ground, because these caves were filled with them.  We had to fight our way past at least forty before we found a good place to rest.  In our fight a Human that was helping me get out fell.  I felt so sorry for him.  He had given his life to help protect me and his friends.  I did something that goes against my doctrine and asked mother to bring him back.  She must have felt the same way because not one second after my prayer left my lips his eyes opened
((DM rolling a 98/100 :) to see if her prayer was answered)).  All I could do was smile.  I felt happy that I was able to help this Human that gave his life for us, but I also felt shame.  For a third time I've broke a vow...

*she snaps awake and sees a guard standing over her.  He says to her, "Miss we can't have people sleeping in town.  If you need a room you'll find one in the Inn for a descent price."  She stands up and tells him that she's sorry.  Then she turns around and walks away*

Roleplaying / Playing a pacifist Druid
« on: October 20, 2005, 12:40:00 pm »
I'm finding it somewhat difficult to play my character here on the server.  I think I've made her too much of a pacifist.  The difficulty that I'm having to find a reason for her to go off and kill stuff to level since role-playing isn't going to get her any levels.  Beyond killing stuff like Deer and Boars to feed herself she aviods all combat when possible.  Doing quests like the one in Hlint where you kill Goblins and collect their ears or the one in Haven to rid the mines of Ogres she will not do.  She figures that the Goblins in the Wastelands have every right to live these just as the Humans have every right to live in Hlint, and that the Ogres in those mines have every right to live there and won't drive them away from their homes.

I see my Druid as more of a caster type that will use Wild Shape when she's able.  In-game I'm RPing her as never using a weapon fogred from nature to kill (that includes natural weapons because they have to be crafted).  I've also toyed with the idea of PrCing her with the Shifter class, but since she has no use for keeping a journal (in the development fourm) I doubt that will happen.

Someone told me to ask a GM about this, but I'd rather not waste their time.  So here I am asking the community to see if anyone of you could help me see a motivation that I'm not.

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Just a friendly reminder
« on: October 17, 2005, 12:23:00 pm »
My character, Kutya'I, has no name.  I ask everyone to ignore what's in my name field.  She's told no one in-game her name, so please don't address her as Ku or anything else unless you're character has given her a name.

Thanks.

General Discussion / Playing a character with no name
« on: October 13, 2005, 01:20:00 pm »
I'm in the process of planning out a new character since the two that I have are both on the verge of retiring.  I'm thinking of playing a Druid this time around, and my concept of her is she has no name.  She's given up her name when she accepted to be a protector for the forest that she's grown up in.  Part of the vow is to never say her name or pick a new name for herself.  Now the thing is she does have a name, but I don't want any of the players or GMs to know it.  To submit a character I'm going to have to supply a name and at creation also.  How can I get past this part?  I really, really, really don't want my characters name known, because some people here have problems remembering that their characters aren't going to know another characters name unless they've been told.  On a MUD I've played in the past the GMs let me use NO NAME as a valid character name when I played a character with no name there.  Would that work here at Layo?  I'm thinking that I'll probably have to go with some type of nick name that other people could have given her while was on the trip to Mistone.  Is that my only option?

Wild Surge Inn / A letter to the captain of the guard
« on: October 09, 2005, 11:50:00 pm »
*written in neat handwriting*

Dear sir,

I would like you inform you of a crime that was commented in your town.  An Ogre by the name of Gork assulted me numerous times while I was attempting to defend the town from a monster that found it's way inside your gates.  This Gork also had an ally, an unnamed male Elf, that also assulted me also.

I would like to bring charges up on the both of them, and will assist you in your investigation to brings these people to justice.  There are two witnesses that were present during the attack.  A female Gnome dressed wearing an Orange cap.  I wasn't able to get her name,  but she did say that she belonged to some clan called Ironwood.  A male Dwarf was there also.  I wasn't able to get this name of this Dwarf either, and all Dwarves look the same to me.  I'm sure though that the female Gnome would know this persons name.

Wild Surge Inn / Tcho look for work
« on: September 24, 2005, 10:28:00 am »
*Written in a child-like manner*

Tcho look for work with other adventurers, maybe you need him to carry lots of rocks, woods, maybe you need him to travel with you, maybe you hire him if you do.  You find Tcho in Hlint, we talk about price for services, he works hard for you.

//Mondays through Fridays I'll only be able to play from the times of 8 PM to around 12 AM PST, and on weekends whenever I'm available.  Please keep this in mind if you'd like my character to help yours.

Roleplaying / Roleplaying Charisma
« on: September 22, 2005, 02:03:00 pm »
I'm relatively new to playing DnD.  I've only been playing it for seven or so months now.  I have no experience with playing DnD outside of NWN; all my role-playing experience has come from playing MUDs.  With that said I think the hardest stat for me to role-play is Charisma.

In MUDs that have used this stat I've always thought of them as your characters base personality.  If you have a high Charisma your character will most likely have a positive outlook on life, if it's low then they'll tend to have a negative outlook.  Now I'm not saying that a character with a high Charisma score couldn't have a negative personality or vice versa, but more along the lines of decision making.  Like lets stay that you're in a party.  This party has decided to setup an ambush.  A charcter with a higher then average Charisma would think that this ambush would work with little to no harm to the part, while a character with a lower then average Charisma would think that this ambush is a bad idea and that too many people would be injured, and a character with average Charisma would follow the general flow of the party.

How far off is my reasoning with this?

General Discussion / Requesting some information about the game-world
« on: September 18, 2005, 04:54:00 pm »
I'm thinking about retiring my current character and starting another one.  I'm not having as much fun with him as I would like.  I have an idea of character in mind, but before I get to writing up a bio I do have a few questions about the game-world.  If this is the wrong forum to ask can a mod please move this thread to the proper forum?

1.  What would be an alternate name, if any, of the Greypeak Mountians that inhabitants would call it (like a tribe of Giants)?

2.  Would a priestess of Aragen travel across the lands and interview adventurers or mercenaries about the war with Bloodstone?  I was thinking that they might just so they could record history.  If not could you recommend another faction that would?

3.  Are there any kingdoms in the area of Mistone that would form an army to fight Bloodstone?.  Either in the preset or the past.

Thanks in advance.

Development Journals and Discussion / A journal of Kaeso Regillus
« on: September 15, 2005, 11:55:00 am »
Before I get to writing out my charcters journal here on these boards I need to ask that anyone reading this, that isn't a GM, to not use any knowledge that they learn from my character in-game unless I have role-played it with you.  I don't know how character journals work here at Layonara, but the last server I played on used them as an open library where anyone could read then and use the knowledge gained from them in-game.

General Discussion / A question about the music files
« on: September 14, 2005, 10:44:00 am »
Sorry if this isn't the proper place to ask this.  I've downloaded the music files and when I went to extract them I saw that there was a subfolder that all the files were placed into.  I was wondering if I needed to keep the folder path are just extract all the files into my music folder?  I've played a few MODs where custom music was used and each and every single one of them just had me extract all the files into my music folder without the need of a subfolder inside my music folder.  Is Layonara different?
