General Discussion / Ahoy! Any RPers in other games these days?
« on: July 27, 2017, 10:36:15 pm »
Funny how a great server and community sticks in the mind... magical!I'm @PenNPopper over on Albion Online. Still looking for that "fix" of adrenaline rush RP. Not sure if Albion will work out but it has some of the game mechanics I like from NWN.Best wishes to everyone!

Layonara Server / Sending Bird Messages from the Web Site Is Back!
« on: January 08, 2015, 03:57:54 pm »
For those of you who have associated characters through the web interface, you can now send bird messages to players in game. The system is a bit simplistic to start but it serves its purpose.Simply click on the On Neverwinter Nights menu at the top and select Send Bird Message. You'll then be presented with a dropdown list of all your associated characters and also autocomplete text boxes for each character you wish to send your message to. Each message costs 25 True per recipient. There's nothing quite like receiving a bird message so I encourage you to use the system to send messages to friends in game! If you need any help with anything associated with the system or linking your web account with your NWN Characters feel free to ask.

General Discussion / WLs, get out there!
« on: March 22, 2012, 06:49:37 pm »
After sending a few tells to PCs of players that are WLs, I thought it might be time to stir the pot a bit.

You do know that you're WLs, right? World. Leaders. It would be better to apologize for being over-leaderly, don't you think?

Even the most mundane tale takes on legs when the town criers begin to tell it. "A Xeenite has been overheard asking about sources of hops... what has the world come to!?"

There are only a small handful of players actually playing, don't be shy about *bonking* them with your wands for RP you had as other personae. Really, WLs you need to encourage the type of play that epitomizes Layonara. No one is going to scold you, I'm sure, for giving props to players and their PCs.

Heck, bonk everyone you see online. I, for one, think the RP is fantastic these days. Maybe it's just easier to know everyone's story when there are only a couple score PCs.

In any case, levels don't matter on Layonara so double bonk us!

Introduce Yourself / Hi
« on: November 29, 2011, 03:21:19 am »
Hello, would just like to take a moment to greet you all and tell you a bit about myself. I have RPed on various games during the past several years, but never on a neverwinter server. I am looking forward to getting IG and getting to know some of you. I started RPing around 12 years ago with pen and paper 3.0 dnd, and then moved to computer RP when my group fell apart. I hope this message finds you all doing well, and cant wait to talk to you more.

Rumour Has It / Naval manoeuvres by order of Admiral Red Bear
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:58:14 pm »
Within days of the dragon attack on the Shallow Coves region of Liwich the Admiral Red Bear has dispatched no less than eight fully armed scout ships into the oceans off western Dreger.

Also in Lor one of the Blood Circle captains, Lion the Brutal, in his ship, Soulreaper, has left port in a hurry one almost the same day that the eight ships from Hurm were dispatched.

Dock authorities in Lor when questioned indicated he had been ordered to hunt down a rogue Mistite ship that had been in port two days before.

The Silver Buckle / Announcing: The Silver Buckle Food Not Trues Duex
« on: September 01, 2011, 10:36:54 am »
As there were items that were not bid on at the last auction, and more donations were made, there will be one more - and only one more - food auction, held at a time to be more agreeable with those on the other side of the world*.  Having learned valuable lessons from the previous auction, the following are the rules:

-Coin of the realm is one donation RECEIPT for a box of food.  Food must be donated before the auction.  One receipt is one unit of bidding.

-No True will be bid at this auction.  FOOD ONLY.

-Boxes must be full.  Definition of full:  grains, fruits, herbs and spices, nuts, cooked meat and fish, edible mushrooms, butter, meals, flours; thirty-five.  Honey, maple syrup, sugarcane, milk, juices - fourteen.  Breads, fourteen.  Roasts, pies; six.

-IMPORTANT RULE:  Fill boxes by food type.  A box of grains may be mixed grains but it must be grains.  Ditto fruit and nuts.  Please do not mix fruits, nuts, and grains in a box because it is very painful to count hundreds of receipts that way.  Lesson learned...

-Salt, sugar, pepper and raw meat are not valid items.  No vendor-bought food will be honored.

-No pre-bidding; all bids will be live in the Buckle. Proxies will be honored if arrangements are made beforehand from the absent party.

-Fifty percent down and fifty percent promised will be honored if the bidding goes high; however you must clearly state when you owe boxes to the receipt master or mistress before collecting your item.

FOOD MAY BE DONATED TO ANY FAMINE RELIEF FUND OR TO THE FOUNDATION.  Currently, Rohden and Boyer have famine relief funds set up.

//*Sat. Sept. 24, at six-thirty in the morning eastern time.

Layonara Server / Forums and IRC - September 24, 2010
« on: September 24, 2010, 09:29:26 am »
Dear Layonara Community,

We are aware that there continue to be issues with the forums, and efforts continue to bring them back to the proper level of functionality, including the visibility of posts made prior to last night (US/Canada time zones). It is pretty much a forum-wide problem that affects everyone equally, including those of us with higher-level access.

A side effect of the database problem affecting the forums is that the NickServ, ChanServ and aragen services on IRC are also down.

All I know about is that the forum database experienced a couple of crashes over the last couple of days, requiring a repair process.  Last night, orth indicated to me that the database in question was quite large and he did not know how long it would take to run the repair completely.

At this time, I can offer no information as to when these services will be back in full operation or whether any data has been lost and/or corrupted due to the crash.  I do not yet know the root cause of these problems either.

We are aware that this causes an inconvenience to people and a difficulty in conducting various RP and social functions for Layonara.  We're also aware that this has likely suspended things like Character Applications, as the CA team cannot access the threads to comment upon or approve them.

So please bear with us as we work to sort this out.  As more information becomes available, someone will update everyone.  Until that happens, please assume that things are not working properly and assume that we are working toward a fix.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / True Sight vs Rogues
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:54:25 am »
Okay, I've mulled over this for some time, I've read many of the prior discussions about this spell and I know its been discussed to death but.......

Rogues struggle at the best of times at higher levels and with the creatures on layonara once you hit a certain level and go to many areas most magic using creatures that spawn seem to have True Sight as a stock standard spawn spell.

True Sight, due to nwn mechanics is almost 100% undefeatable in a sense that for a rogue character or character with HIPS it can see them around corners as well and once a target locks onto the character you have no chance to avoid them. (Yes I know creatures need to have line of sight for them to lock on, but its amazing how many times they lock on without that line of sight)

Ideally True Sight would not allow creatures to see through walls or around corners. Thus a rogue could actually make use of their sneaking and hiding abilities regardless of a person using True Sight and if they approached them from behind true sight would still not allow them to be seen in this sense.

I know we cannot alter the spell due to nvn mechanics but can we please entertain the thought of finding a way to give Rogues or characters with a hide chance the opportunity to use that ability vs true sight?

Ie can a DC check be built into the True Sight so that it checks vs the hide of the creature to see if it can overcome it?

Or alternatively can we make a version of True Sight that is specific to Layonara and have that used instead? One that can operate more realistically? So that when the creature does not have line of sight they lose track of the rogue with a successful hide check or something?

I know Im asking a lot, but the amount of times Ive heard the laments of players with high level rogues, and now I'm one of them, maybe its time we could do something about it?

Server Rules / CNR Harvesting/Camping
« on: June 11, 2010, 11:28:28 am »
I recently had questions brought to me about how many times can CNR be gathered from an area.  It seems there is a lot of confusion currently on this topic and people think there is a "Rule of Three" passes.

Here is Layonara's rules on camping and looping:
LORE: Player Rules

The rule for harvesting CNR -is- a timer limit of Thirty Minutes.

Depending on the difficulty of defeating any guards, the time spent choping, chiseling or mining and the inclusion of any rest break, once may be in effect our limit.

Hopefully this helps those who asked or were mistaken about the rules.  If anyone has any questions, as always feel free to ask them.  Don't fret over anything in the past, just focus on doing things right heading forward.

Enjoy and have fun

Kobal ventured there on his own for the first time since the place was updated some months ago, and nearly got stabbed to death by werewolves, almost got eaten by icespiders and was very close to being exterminated by the magics of some very hostile walking cows (i.e. minotaurs).

So, if you would be so kind to come along for a trip (bringing your buffs and deathwards!) the dwarf would be very much obliged. :)

Kobal willl try to be online from around 3pm GMT (which is in approximately 4 hours). He'll be in the Thunder Peaks, north of the crossway, cuddling the yetis that hang out there. ;)
