General Discussion / Hipshot Thought
« on: July 17, 2011, 02:43:42 am »
***post theme music* Sorry if you don't like bluegrass covers.  Lonn... you can put on some Celtic Frost or whatever it is you proud deviants listen to***

I'll admit I haven't given it more then 60 seconds thought.  Probably the problem with most my posts in the past.  That and I'll spend a half hour posting on a 60 second thought, instead of thinking for a half hour before writing.  I'll take the good with the bad on that one I suppose.  Anyhow.

Can you imagine how fun it'd be if everyone started a new character in two weeks and stuck with them as their primary?  Plot quests and everything?

I know its easy for me to say.  Back after two years, the few real roleplay attachments of PC's have left or died off, or moreso they're just not around much.  The best is dead.  No offense to the dudes I always played with... especially you Milty - I know Steel's sensitive to that sort of thing.

Logged on today... got luckier with emeralds then I ever have.  Seemed fun to do.  But yeah - didn't even see Storold sitting around to maybe have a chat that's pretty much like old senile guys playing chess at a park, complaining about politics from the last four decades.  Saw Ang and Alantha on, but there was a DM there so I figured I wouldn't interrupt.  They like their European thing and usually have a conversation that's tough to break into.  Tea, gravlax, and men playing field hockey... that sort of thing.  The sophistication usually cripples me.

Back on point... holy cow it was a lot of emeralds for three veins!  Even ran so long my daughter's naptime ran over and I had to scramble out of the deep knowing I was emotionally scarring her with abandonment.

Hold on... back on point - think about it.  What if two weeks from now every player logged in with a level 1 they could be in love with?  Excited about the character... and knowing everyone else was there.  It wasn't just a microgroup based off a mini-plotline that maybe everyone isn't 100% into rp'ing (which is great - don't get me wrong, I respect the efforts)... but every active player, not a theme group.

You can argue a million points, each of which have a lot of value... but there's not one of you that can say you don't get that itch with the server status when you see a bunch of folks your level.  And it's not in a two year old plotline you can't jump in or are afraid to join.  It's just folks in the same boat as you, in the same place as you.  It's a great server.  The graphics are horrible, the million and four overrides like to break people's computers so that you see stacked squirrels instead of gnomes... but it's all here.  The story is there.  The people are there.  We're just so spread out, and in our own stories, and usually not willing to start anew with the new within the mmo waiting around the difficult corner that we cling to the abandoned coffee houses of 24 timezones, viable level brackets, and character relationships.

Think about logging into Hlint, looking around, and seeing 15 people that you know are in the same boat as you on both ability... and story.  Think about that plot quest where you're not the one who's story backbone is a pelt quest you finished yesterday... standing next to Plen ---- and likewise not the 410 year old epic human who's trying to both enjoy what story and presence you've created while not drowning out the crowds you want so much to find common ground with around you.  It's hard for both sides.  Think about logging into that old Hlint.  Maybe it lasts three months, maybe it lasts a year before every old concern creeps back in... but it'd be a great time while it lasted... and it'd be better then 19 emeralds in one run, as lucky as they were.

But like I said.  Easy for me to say.

Still going to say it though.  It'd be a heck of a time.

A day of excess, drinking, wild revelry and general no-goodedness.

In other words, a typical Friday except, this time, you have an excuse!!

:)

PS. I made the text orange colour, not to offend the eye, but cos it kinda looked beer-ish.

General Discussion / Varka's last quest
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:37:40 pm »
I'm looking for people who were apart of Varka's last quest where he was turned to stone. I seemed to have lost my logs from that quest. So I can not recall all the information. The reason being is that I plan on doing an event that celebrates what happened and tell the story to those who care to listen.

So if you have your logs or information on who was there and who got what gift would be great. Just send me a PM.

Thanks

General Discussion / Axe-ing a question
« on: July 03, 2011, 10:40:04 am »
...so I check server status on a whim and on Central I see...

Yuraxe
Proudaxe
Thunderaxe
Trueaxe

and because he has to be different, one Bolderanvil.

That made me laugh.  Out loud.  Do you get a bonus stamp on your Dwarven Army membership card if you have "axe" in you name somewhere?  Can I make an Axe "The Axe" Axesson for a free toaster?

Introduce Yourself / Hello people
« on: June 29, 2011, 01:40:27 pm »
Well, ive been playing as Aaron for awhile now (though been busy the last few days so not been able to log on) and am waiting on authorisation for another character (who is going to be my main), so guess its time to introduce meself to you all out of character.

Names Patrick, im from the UK and im 26 years old. Been messing around on roleplay servers for nwn since it came out (with gaps in between), played on quite a few servers, FRC, CD, Moonsea (old and new), Myth Drannor, Planar Legends, Arelith...and Amia. (Come on, we all slip up every now and then and fancy a a bit of powerbuilding and creating the new God of Battle, War, Death, Destruction and General Mayhem).

Anyway, really enjoying the server so far, just a shame i play in GMT when no one seems to be about. Ah well, im currently unemployed at the moment so playing until 5 am isnt as bad a thing as it could be...(then again, ive gone to work with a hangover and on 2 hours sleep many a time so...meh).

Obviously, i have a lot of free time at the moment to devote to playing, but that'll change at any time when i get work again (meh, economy), anyway, before i start singing the blues and open a bottle of whisky ill be off.

Look forward to meeting more of you in game!

Patrick

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Battlehelm Moors
« on: June 28, 2011, 02:02:43 am »
Every time I go to the Battlehem Moores I have to change all my video settings or crash repeatedly. Sometimes that does not even work. I crashed at least a dozen times tonight and had weird triangular images the size of half the tileset rotating around me. I've seen a plethora of other issues with other players with that tile set since it was introduced. Therefore, I'd like to request some consideration in a future update to ditch it and use the Sooth Moore tileset instead. There is a high demand for the CNR in those areas, and the risk of crashing and loosing a soul strand to a swampkin at my level is almost funny. The eye candy is not worth the headache it is causing. Anyway... just my two cents. ;)

Character Development Quests (CDQ's) / Czukay / Weapon Master -
« on: June 22, 2011, 07:04:52 pm »
Hello,

I would like to get the gears rolling on a having Czukays weapon master CDQ.
I have these posts so far and could use some advice on how to get the most out of Czukay and his new level as a weapon master.

I will continue to post training in this development thread:
LINK

But yes, I was hoping to get your advice and hopefully give you enough information  to make an interesting CDQ in due time.

Im hoping we can schedule the CDQ in about another month after some good development.

Thanks
Czukay

Here is what I have so far for the weapon master development of Czukay, but also check out that link mentioned above:
Here are some highlights of the bond Czukay has been building that were mentioned on the forum:
Lonnarin:
Kurn's Clinic: Czukay
________________________________________
"Heh, that's it lad! Yer gettin the hang of tha stick-n-twist thar!" Bellowed the blackbearded one-eye with rotty teeth as he watched Czukay's movements in the midst of battle. Howling beastmen advanced upon the Dark One's blades, sides split and heads lopped in glistening anguish. Still they charged. Witless and wild were the Trolloc waves, marching to death on wicked blades.

Czukay's scimitar hit the bearman's torso powerfully to the unmistakable crack of bones breaking, ribs shattered by the sheer force of his blow. Sensing the damage done, the mad one pushed his arms further to bring the edge across it's belly in a long slicing motion. Bewildered, the beast reached down to find its entrails dangling and its eyes knew true horror. And then all went black.

The two anti-heroes trudged on through the massacred, chopping and lopping and slicing and dicing whatever poor monster should stand in their way. Beasts, Ettins, Fiends or Bandits, it mattered not. Only the blade was true. The one Sword Dojo, long ago the term coined by the late Cassius One-Eye (or "Sword Master Bastard" as Kurn would call him)

"Ye gotta BE the blade, ye buggart! Every mornin' sharpen it, every time ye feed it, ye strengthen the blade and ye live fer it! Ain't none of us gonna live forever, lad. All of this! Flesh it rots, it withers and sloths off. Or maybe some young whipper-snapper git lucky and take yer head fer a prize, it dun matter. All that matters be the blade in your hand and feedin its legacy. We just be the bearers of the ultimate truth, this blade in our hand and the inevitable death that it brings. The blade will keep on swingin long after we're dead, and long after we be drinkin with Cassius in the battle beyond the blade will remain and continue its job. It has but one... KILLIN!" Instructed the dwarf by the campfire.

"HOW ter weild it better be yer only concern. All matters of wealth, vengeance, rage, fortune n glory, they all just icing on the cake. Sometimes yer poor and hated, enemy at yer back and nowhere ter run, then who will save ye? The GODS?! HAR! They're too busy playing Creature Cards with our souls ter give a hoot bout any of us. No lad, that blade in yer hand be yer only savior. It spreads a message of greatness for all unworthy to die by its bite and feed its flame. Sacrifice these beasts and burdens of the land ter its glory, MAKE the people know its name fear it rightly, friend or foe! Even those enemies you make that curse its name bring it power, use it! Do it lad! And let EVERYBODY KNOW the GLORY of tha scimitar!"

And with that they began their training...

//Getting the ball rolling for Czukay and I to do a joint-CDT for his Weapon Master training. Will be posting back and forth here as evidence of RP training.

Czukay Journal:
Journal Entry #8

*Written in the blood of many different types*

* He gets up to go pour some more blood into the hole atop the burning skull lantern aside his bedlike coffin of bones and rotting flesh. There in the candlelight he grabs his trusty blade by the name of Blackbeards Revenge and begins to sharpen it ever so carefully whetstone and fresh blood of todays kill at hand.*

At first there were rats and skunks then goblins then lizardfolk and ogres..spiders....The crunching and the crackling of their legs as the blade let fly....it wasn't then that Czukay knew his power he shared with each cut...each sliver....it wasn't until much later in his life of slaughter and battle that Czukay began to feel some sort of connection or pull....a yearning of such to connect with every cut of precision as yet the finest artisan yeilds thee brush, or thee most talented of bards woes the crowd in awe with such tune...Czukays outlet of soul was that of his scimitar....that was becoming his art...his life, his passion. The passion of every cut....the cleanest and deepest cut.

It wasn't until meeting Kurn Blackwater that Czukay began to really understand the connecting of oneself to ones blade....a way of extending the soul beyond the flesh. Czukay would always listen ever so carefully as Kurn explained the techniques involved with honing oneself and focusing the energies to each strike.

Many nights camping in the regions surronding Dalanthar did Czukay venture with Kurn listening to descriptive details about monster and humanoid anatomy....knowing where to put the blade is knowing part of their weakness....knowing how to focus oneself unto the blade and the cut is yet another...he explained...

Czukay could only hope one day to to learn such tact for himself....he continues to ponder this idea countless nights, finding himself waking up at odd hours of the day to disrupt his rest....almost as if Blackbeards Revenge is singing something to him, telling him how to find the deepest cut.

* The lantern wafts out and Czukay falls into a deep slumber with his blood stained blade strewn across his heart *

General Discussion / Wemics in Center/ Adventuring group!
« on: June 20, 2011, 04:46:07 pm »
Hi all. I recently returned to one of my alts, a Wemic - Feana Pantherguard and was wandering about a few things since it's been a long time since I RPed this unusual character:

Firstly, what is the likely reaction to a Wemic in Center? Obviously individual people would react differently so I'm looking more for a general "pitchforks at dusk" or "have some cake" type generic response, if anyone has any ideas? At the moment I tend to keep Feana to the outskirts of any major settlements but that can limit RP quite a bit.

On the second note, it seems to me that Wemics and other "monstrous" races might make likely travelling companions given their general removal from the traditional races and their settlements, so I also wanted to give a shout out to any players of the more odd looking races for groups which want to RP, run around and generally adventure. Please feel free to PM me, or send a tell in game if your monstrous humanoid would like a lion lady to wander around Layonara with!

Thanks all!

General Discussion / Hi bye from an old player
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:19:25 am »
Hello everyone.

Here is just a small hi bye from one of the old dwarven players. Some might remember me as the dwarf Varka Cleaveson.

I thought I might drop a few lines to Layo as I did to Harlas.

Naaaayy. Since I stopped I always kept around though. Reading about what is going on in general but also keeping an eye on layos dwarven players. It has been and it is still fun seeing how Layo develops. I guess some of the other old players do the same thing. (If so just give a thumps up guys).

So, how is everyone doing in there? I can see that there is a few new WL around and that the Torans are starting a new group (every good initiative). Are there other new initiative like that? Did some make a nice exotic group like mix of orcs, deep dwarves and dark elves? And where are the treehuggers?

What about the dwarves! How does it look there? I follow roughly the submissions and character developments.

That is all for now. Take care in there and have fun! :)

I thought this was funny...I searched for Czukay on the forums and found some memorable posts that describe Czukay from other characters perspectives. I didn't think it was innappropriate for me to bring them all together in a single post to represent my character and what he stands for.

I also have the matter of the fact that I need a level in Weaponmaster.
There has been lots of in-game role playing unofficially...lots of characters should be able to account for this by *thanking* my post.

I have taken the level as weaponmaster sort of on accident last night when I was messing with the stats I hit level accidenentally...so that means I can't really play him until this is resolved. ( Why I need GM help )
I was hoping I can just be approved by the support of the folks that know me in game. I have been feeding my blades for years and Rping it  but have not had my official CDQ.

I am hoping for two things based on this post:
1) Now that I am  into Epic and lots of people refer to me as " Count Czukay " can my name be changed from 'Czukay' to " Count Czukay " ?  I think he has fairly earned his name and acquired his counthood by now by roleplaying that presence in the world and having the possessions to support the title.

2) Can Czukay start playing as a weapon master right away? What would be necessary to make that happen? Please advise. I am in no rush....but really do look forward to playing as a weapon master.

-Falonthas on Evil-
Evil on Layo is subtle. Yes im saying it again. And for those who are new it will be hard to think why or how it has to be subtle. Just because you worship an evil god/goddess, doesnt mean you are the anti-thesis of the land.

You have to earn your place, and that means you have to live long enough , to gain skill and power enough to be able to walk through the city gates and your very presense causes doom and gloom, not with any action, but with reaction from those around you.

If you try to be despicable and known when your character is starting out, chances are you will be found out rather quickly, and if you dont have a little group to run about with, you will spend alot of alone time.

One of the most evil characters I ever met, he was simply sick and deranged, but you know something, noone would want to take him outside for a fight cause you dont know what an evil person is capable of,(and yes thats you Czukay). But if you found him in full armor in the caves and he happen to be killing the same giants you were, you would bring him with you for simple survival.
You know hes foul, sick, twisted, and eats pieces of meat stuck to the spines on his armor, but he can fight and ,though he might not do so directly, save your collective behinds.

Evil can be many things, and those who learn how to be discreet and not show their whole hand at the table on the first bet, are the ones who will be around to win the pot.

*comes in tired but triumphant*

I think I have now made a lasting enemy... The bloody Count Czukay ran up after a friend had fallen and scooped up her blood into that infernal skull of his. I drew my blades and screamed for him to back off. He acted like it was the most normal thing in the world... I cannot stand the sight of the man, nor can Mylindra. She spit on him in town, I don't think that went over well with her temple. It was only a couple of days later Barion came asking to speak with her about the incedent. I think the issue was resolved though. I still won't let the man walk freely through town without voicing my displeasure that he still draws a breath. Ha there's no one to tell me what to do!

After delivering the parcel, I stumbled upon more trouble; it seems that I have a capacity for getting myself into trouble, and if I keep it up, I will most likely end up dead. I stumbled upon a group of people – Fleur, a Human mage, the Halfling paladin, and a cleric, both of which were in servitude to Toran. I approached them in hopes of having them as companions in some adventitious expedition. Instead, they asked me for my full name in order to finish filing their report; I was shocked at this insidious incrimination. I am well aware that I did something wrong and I hoped to pay reparations as well as fix the problem before it caused further damage; I even talked to the cleric after the incident, and he said nothing about filing a report. I analyzed the situation carefully, and obviously, after the report, a trial will be in order, and after that I fear that worse will become of me. In my defiance, I sought to delay them, and bluff as much as I can; I even resorted to giving out my fake alias, "Njurast Vhaj". When worse comes to worse, the hostilities heated up, and the two enforcers of the law grew impatient; I was being aggravated, and I was running out of tricks. Luckily, people came to my aid, two ignominious people along with X, arrived just in time. The two people defended me and placed me under their protection, I was in awe that such people would defend me.

Awestruck, I owed the two strangers my life; they both donned dark clothing, and rather ominous trinkets. They claimed themselves to be Lord Domino and Count Czukay, both of them hailing from the continent of Dregar. Explaining their view on society

From 40 attempts, 4 successes. It should have been 10!

Maybe that should read "you have a 10% chance of successfully crafting this recipe", or, "you have a 40% chance of the reported 25% chance of actually crafting this recipe".

Rumour Has It / Voltrex Reeling from Eruptions
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:09:22 pm »
More and more of the skies across the world are filled with dust and debris, soot and ash from the numerous volcanos erupting in various parts of the world and the mountains of the Molten Isles spewing much of the great coulds of noxious vapours into the air over Layonara.

Already Priests and servants of Pyrtechon have come forth to claim responsibility for the volcano's claiming it as a sign of the Great Dragon God's impending return to mortal form to blanket the world with fire and chaos.

In the midst of the wars raging in Belinara, the uncertainty of the future of nations who have lost hundreds if not thousands of lives in the war against the Cult and the cold certainty that its not over yet comes this message.

It arrives in Blackford Castle, to Castle Hilm, to most of the civilised nations around the world and purportedly comes from the Aesmil Isim, or the Council of Elves on the nation of Voltrex.

"Relevant introductions....

Let it be known, that in a historic sitting of the Aesmil Isim, under guidance of the Iselian and witnessed by the Speakers of the Five Towers. By Isim Eliwanilae or in your terms, unanimous decree, we have declared a state of emergency within Voltrex.

Any and all attempts by those outside our realm to return or gain entry to our lands is now expressly forbidden pending future deliberations of the Aesmil Isim and determinations of the threats to our lands and those of our people.

A state of natural unrest has destroyed much of the forests to the north and upheavals have created a new landmass of cooling magma. A land of black jagged stone, fiery pits of lava and unstable earth.

The people of Voltrex will brook no interference as we try to recover and determine the extent of the damage and loss of life over the next few years.

We ask that all nations of this world respect our wishes in this matter."

Forum Bugs / Donations Page
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:49:04 am »
I don't think the donations page is updating to reflect what is received versus what needs to be received to cover costs.

It is saying that currently donations are exceeding that balance which they need to be at to meet expenses - but I don't think the last month or two of expenses have been added to the cumulative total?

I, for one, am reminded that this virtual playground that is Layo in which I do indulge costs RL people RL money when the little thermometer over on the right hand side is not reading 'full'.

Layonara Server / Notice of exploit -- PLEASE READ
« on: March 16, 2011, 10:11:13 pm »
It has come to my attention that there is, and has been for some time, an unintended exploit involving bows and weapon enhancements. Specifically, it has been possible to apply weapon damage enhancements to bows, which then applies an additional damage type on top of whatever the arrows may already do, which also stacks with whatever damage enhancements (i.e. elemental rods) may be present on the ammunition.

This exploit came about as a side effect of being able to cast Darkfire/Flame Weapon on bows and other ranged weapons as part of our rather sweeping improvements to ranged weapons overall. It was not our intent to have permanent enhancement for ranged weapons and it takes the general balance of them beyond our design.

As such, the 3.30.3 update closes this exploit.  Players will no longer be able to add permanent elemental, silver or titanium enhancements to ranged weapons.  Darkfire and Flame Weapon will still continue to function.  For those bows already out there with permanent enhancements applied, I'm requiring a mandatory "recall" of such enhanced weapons.  This applies to everyone. No exceptions.

In order that training, customization and other enhancements (i.e. Mighty) are not lost, I am also making a tool available to GMs which will remove damage enhancements from objects.  GMs will also compensate characters with an appropriate elemental enhancement rod, so that nothing is lost.  If you are willing or able to "ox" your ranged weapons, please do so.  Otherwise, please contact a GM to have your weapon modified.

This is mandatory. I regret that this is necessary, but it should never have been in the first place. I realize this will be disappointing for some, but again, it never should have been.

I also want to specifically state that I am not targeting anyone, nor do I "blame" anyone who may have made or received such an enhanced bow or other ranged weapon.  This is not a punitive measure but a corrective one.

Please note that if anyone is found to be using an enhanced ranged weapon after April 15, 2011, the player will receive a temporary ban for exploiting.  If use of such weapons continues, subsequent bans may be made permanent.

If anyone has any questions about this, please ask below or via PM.  I hope everyone, whether affected or not, understands the reasons behind this and cooperates in good spirits.

In closing, I want to thank the conscientious player who make me aware of this, as well as thanks to orth for assisting in jogging our collective memories and working out the reason this was even possible.

General Discussion / Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand
« on: February 25, 2011, 08:32:45 am »
As some of you might have heard you might have heard of the Earthquakes that have hit Christchurch.

Just to let you know that I am safe, I am in Wellington so no injuries here.

However Christchurch earthquakes have been really bad to the city.

To date there are 100 or so casualties including some  two young 6-7 month babies.

The city buildings are very badly damaged. Christchurch is experiencing aftershocks.

I have three videos that you may watch if you are wanting to find out whats going on (combined an hour in total of footage):

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - How it Unfolded - Part 1

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake 2011 - widespread damage, multiple victims and many unaccounted for

YouTube - Christchurch Earthquake Special: 60 Minutes NZ - The Saddest Story - Part 2

Our international friends from USA/Australia/Japan have brought along search and rescue teams and helped out tremendously.

I just thought you might like to know whats going on in more detail just in case you saw on the news there.

Roleplaying / Interrogation in Fort Vehl
« on: February 18, 2011, 08:14:37 pm »
My thanks and Kudos goes out to the players of Keela Moonflower (Mooneyes) and Tyra Dragonheart (Shiffdrgnhrt) for their no nonsense RP and attempted murder of Nym'roos, after an arguably failed attempt at interrogating him for answers regarding certain people :P.

And yes Tyra.. I kept a screenshot of that knockdown attempt ;)
Gotta have some revenge right?

Introduce Yourself / A miracle! A ressurection! ... no, just was lost
« on: February 18, 2011, 11:31:43 am »
It's me again!  Hi everyone!

Sorry I disappeared so suddenly - I thought about it for a bit, and I realized I'd managed to create a character that fed into my depression issues fairly severely.  Stupid move. :P

This time, I think I understand the world better so I can avoid doing that, and I've stopped associating Layo with the depression  that Corrinne kept stirring up.  Sooooo ... I'm back!  Anticipate new and crazy character soon. :)
