Some of the figures are marked over, in the same small, spidery script, and a note is added to the bottom.

Prices updated - please review once again.

Dwarves are super-tough. That's a well-defined genre trope... And given who sang them into being, it's a pretty reasonable amount of abuse they were able to take.

Gandalf... Well, he's not human, either.

And Hugo Weaving makes a perfect Elrond Half-Elven - because Elrond isn't an elf. He's half I-decided-to-look-like-an-elf-instead-of-a-demigod and half elf. You know... Just like Hugo Weaving.

Honestly, they fit the descriptions of the characters marvelously, and mesh better with the concept of the dwarfs that Tolkien wrote than the dwarves we play in D&D. So... Bravo, Jackson.

I want the soundtrack almost more than the movie.

I always though Jasmine was the hottest Disney princess. Even though  Disney princesses usually wear dresses, she still beats them in  pants.

To be fair, they're transparent.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Why is CN one of the easiest alignments to rp
« on: December 07, 2011, 03:46:16 pm »
Another alignment thread? I guess it's been a while since the last one.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree strongly with Aerimor's summation of the alignments, most particularly with True Neutral and Neutral Good.

Neutral Good is not the default state for a person. Most folks (myself included) don't feel empathy for others strongly enough to go terribly far out of their way on a regular basis. We see suffering on the news, or down the street, or through the grapevine, and we mutter about how it's terrible and go back to our dinner. In general, most people will do what seems like the best idea at the time, balancing ethical and legal norms with self-interest. They're not especially consistent, but neither are they especially spontaneous.

From Law to Chaos and Good to Evil, they're the sensible middle of the road that - in the non-adventuring populace - tends to keep its head down and go about its own livelihood. For adventurers... Every once in a while you get that odd duck that ADVOCATES the balance between the extremes, but generally you're left with those middle-of-the-road folks who do what seems like the best idea, overall.

Neutral Good, on the other hand, is neither particularly consistent nor particularly spontaneous - but shows notable and actionable empathy for others. Neutral Good is generally the alignment most societies hold as the paradigm, like the main character in a Christmas movie, but that's just not how most folks operate. The NG character will go out of his own way, put himself at risk, take suffering upon himself, to relieve the suffering of others.

A little more on-topic, though...

Chaotic Neutral is the alignment used to describe characters that tend towards spontaneity, but not towards particular empathy for others. Notably, however, they still tend to show SOME empathy, and most will try to avoid hurting others. They do whatever seems like the best idea RIGHT THEN, treating each circumstance as ethically unique.

This is obviously a bundle of tendencies that is difficult to manage in a group environment... Thus the restriction.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Re: Make disarm trap a ranger skill too
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:36:38 pm »
I think you're coming at this from the wrong angle, there, Dremora.

A ranger (like anyone else) ABSOLUTELY knows how to disable his own traps - he set them, after all! But he wouldn't know how to get at the triggers and so forth on a trap he's not intimately familiar with.

Rangers are hunters. They ARE the guys setting the traps. Rangers aren't Druids-With-BAB, they're RANGERS. This is exemplified best by the Favored Enemy ability.

Favored Enemy is an ability representing the Ranger's familiarity with a given foe... The Ranger's chosen foe, the one he knows best how to find, how to kill... How to NOT kill, if it's appropriate. A Favored Enemy is what the Ranger ranges to find and hunt. I hate to bring WoW into this, but they named their Hunters (otherwise carbon copies of D&D Rangers) what they did for a reason.

Rangers set traps for they prey they hunt. They don't waste their time digging through dungeons, bypassing the boobytraps on treasure chests and doors. Some might, sure, but they're the exception. Not the rule.

1 does not auto-fail, 20 DOES auto-succeed. Layonara has the AUTOFAIL setting at 0 (off/false).

I'm honestly having a little bit of trouble understanding why characters (PC or NPC) in the Rofireinite church seem to have such INCREDIBLY limited authority until they get into the absolute highest echelons of the command structure.

If a PC commits a crime, and a lawman PC witnesses it, why CAN'T the lawman A) subdue the criminal and submit a form or two to get a judgement, or B) just slag the guy in the name of Good and Righteousness, if the crime's bad enough? If the criminal gets away in EITHER case, the lawman can still put his paperwork through, and have a warrant issued for the criminal.

This whole discussion seems like you're taking the beat cops of Layonara, and taking away their guns, badges, and ticketbooks, and relegating them to... Er... Well, what is it they CAN do, again?

http://forums.layonara.com/ask-gamemaster/276212-undead-slayer-prc.html

Previous discussion tells us that no, Undead Slayer levels do not count towards the total HD turned by Turn Undead. However, they get the Sun domain, along with a couple of feats, which make them more effective at Turning Undead.

Also, Turn undead - NWNWiki gives information on how Turning works.

Why the guesswork when there's hard information out there, a quick search away? <3

As an addendum, I've provided information on what's happened to many of my previous PCs in my character notes thread... Feel free to appropriate any of them; a few should prove to be decent stock characters.
