General Discussion / Warn us when Restarting
« on: December 20, 2005, 10:21:00 am »
Hey... The server just restarted, I think... Or crashed, perhaps; but either way... When a restart is imminent, could we get some warning via Shout? I had my ox pack open, and I'm not sure if I'll have any of my stuff in there when I relog.

Really hope it is... Those cranberry juices took forever to make.

General Discussion / Layonara Loader + GLR
« on: December 15, 2005, 04:55:00 pm »
This was a PM I sent to Eloyn just moments ago. Any comments?

Quote
Alright... I've been working on this for a while, now, and not even my father can come up with anything to help.

I've got a batch file that originally bounced GLR (the Gnomish Log Rotator) off of NWNmain.exe (ran it right after; something like :[Path] :start w/NWNmain.exe :[Path2] :glr.exe was the main bit of code), modified to do it after LayonaraLoader.exe (I altered the filename to make it easier on myself. xD). However, since Layoloader closes before NWN gets the chance to get going, GLR runs before NWN starts.

Now, seeing all the players that use GLR, I thought that if you incorporated a function to run GLR after NWN closes, that that version would be incredibly popular among the players who use GLR. You may want to contact the folks who made it, but there's no copywrite infringement there at all; no more than there'd be in a *.bat. Especially if you provided a link to GLR with the link to the install file for the GLR-launching Layonara Loader.

Also, if there were a way to save the password, that would be another thing to consider for the next version.

There's no rush on this; I've gotten everything settled on my machine so that GLR doesn't take effect until after I enter a description for the file (which I don't do until I've closed NWN), but consider this some user feedback.

I'll also be posting this on the General Discussion board, to gather comments from others... Hope that's no problem.

Cheers,
~ Stephen Zuckerman

And one last thing... I've got the working version of LayoLoader (the password works for Central and East, as well as West) on my machine at home; I'll email it to whomever wants it, if L hasn't added it to the Downloads section, yet.

For as long as the download still works, here.

General Discussion / Death on arrival.
« on: December 13, 2005, 03:15:00 pm »
Died in Rilara, ported to Dregar... But instead of being dead when I got there, I was killed upon my arrival. Seeing as, knowing me, I'll likely need the extra death before XP loss, I'd appreciate if a DM would come along and revive him.

General Discussion / Layonara Loader not updated!
« on: December 13, 2005, 12:44:00 pm »
Say, Eloyn said he'd fixed the bug where you can't use LayoLoader to log in to Central or East...

When's that going to be posted?

Fixed Bugs / Layonara Loader - Password Incorrect
« on: December 06, 2005, 01:19:00 pm »
Alright... This is very doubtfully a user-side or program-side issue here, but...

When using the Layonara Loader, I can't sign on to East or Central directly... I type the password in the box as "layoplayer," just like for West, but I always get the server message for Password Incorrect. "Unable to Connect: Password Incorrect" or somesuch. I can log on to West, but neither of the others. Are the passwords different or something?

Hey, I made a meme! Only for guys, though. Not enough female Supreme Losers of Uber-Pathetic Status.

To be a Supreme Loser of Uber-Pathetic Status, a guy must (be, is, is a, etc.)...

[ ] Living with his mother.
[ ] Balding.
[ ] Overweight.
[ ] Computer engineer / Video Store Clerk / Unemployed.
[ ] Trekkie.

[ ] Never been laid in his life.
[ ] Has a porn collection.

Owns a siginificant collection of one or more of the following, even by "nerd standards":
-[ ] Comic Books; NOT Manga

[ ] Uses sci-fi/fantasy or gaming puns in everyday life, on a regular basis.
[ ] Just KNOWS the aliens are coming, and has taken steps to prepare.
[ ] Can actually perform the Vulcan Nerve Pinch.
[ ] Is working on the whole Force thing.
[ ] Has actually passed on a date, because his favorite sci-fi series was on that night.
[ ] Is enough of a regular at the nearest Phoenix & Dragon, Gamestop, EB, Galactic Quest, or Games Workshop (or similar comic/gaming shop) that the proprieters know him by a name-like description, if not actually his name. E.g. "the X-men guy," "that munchkin who knocked off the dragon," "our best customer."
[ ] Has applied for more than half of these items.

[ ] ..And still thinks he's the coolest thing in the world.

I'll fill it out once I get some replies...

General Discussion / Reinforced Clothes - Conflict with Mage Armor?
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:52:00 pm »
The Reinforced Clothes apparently give an armor bonus that does not stack with, for example, the bonus from the Helmet of Armor. Is there a reason? Should it be changed? If so, to what?

Fixed Bugs / Port number missing in Server Change Script
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:44:00 pm »
I just had something of a problem with this... When going to another server, you're booted with a scriped message giving you the IP. However, the IP is missing the port number, which prevented me from being able to log in.

That might be a bit of an issue, n'est pas?

(It was all sorted out; Dorgonath gave me the Port#.)

General Discussion / A bit of help from a GM, please...
« on: November 30, 2005, 03:01:00 pm »
Pyyran's stuck in the Death Void on West; bound on Dregar, though. Knew I was forgetting something...

Anyway, the IP for whichever server Dregar is on (memory lapse) isn't seeming to work; at least, not the one that's given to me in-game. Had it screened, but I closed it a few minutes ago. Tried the DM Channel, but apparently noone's on...

@.@ Help.

Wild Surge Inn / To the Freelancers
« on: November 28, 2005, 01:41:00 pm »
A notice is left in the Wild Surge Inn, as well as on the door of the Freelancers' headquarters.

"Freelancers:

Please contact Pyyran Rahth at your first opportunity; I have been gathering and holding Elderberries for you lot for I'm not even sure how long. To date, I have already delivered five or six boxes of the things, and have still been gathering more, in accord with my agreement with Seteece.

I would, generally, send this by post, but as I have such a difficult time finding any of you, I can't imagine that Vale would have any better luck.

Contact me by Post, or leave a message with Yastin on where and when you will be available. These things are getting heavy.

Hoping to speak with you,
~ Pyyran Rahth, adventurer.

General Discussion / Tonight's RP - Thank you!
« on: November 15, 2005, 11:03:00 pm »
My gratitude and respect go out to the player of Silool Baraeth (whose surname I can never spell properly), with whom I just had the enjoyment to spend nearly two solid hours RPing with, with a heavy focus on the relationship between Pyyran and Silool. Great RPing, truly, and there was more character development for Pyyran to come out of it than I could have imagined. I never really got to play him in-depth in the mid-lower levels, so going through what brought him to be the man he eventually became... To allow my eloquence to slip, it was freakin' awesome. I haven't had the opportunity, or impetus, to write terribly descriptively in quite some time, especially when dancing the line of propriety as closely as I am able. And then, of course, getting to the point where one has to throw in a story ellipses, because there's only one direction things go after that. Come on, Silool's a Xeenite. And Pyyran's... Well, male.  It was great RP; best I've had on the server yet, with only a few incidents coming close, all of which were Plot-related.  Though, the reason I wanted to post here was actually more towards a suggestion for anyone and everyone...  RP. Whenever you get the chance, RP. A lot. Deeply. You never know when a DM might be around, to signify the advancement in your character's life with some mechanical representation...

General Discussion / Diversion
« on: November 07, 2005, 06:55:00 pm »
Hi. Well, the woman I've been in love with for the past two years or so has just let me know that, for mental health reasons, she can never interact with me again, so... Well, what else am I going to do but get online and play video games?

I'm up for some bashing, and my usual bashing server is down. Anyone who wants to come along, may. Pyyran'll be recruiting in Hlint for the next little while.

Hey, better than sobbing hysterically.

Wild Surge Inn / Haven - Possible alert
« on: November 07, 2005, 08:25:00 am »
-A small page of hickory paper is tacked to the message board with a slightly rusted iron spike, a message scrawled out in charcoal, the Common script angular, and barely legible.-

Goblin encountered in Haven Mines - Directing Ogres, seemingly could detect through invisibility. Seems much stronger than Red Light Goblins. Contact Pyyran Rahth for clarification, or if you have any further information.

-The note is unsigned, but the handwriting, and particular care with which the name was written, leaves little doubt as to the note's author.-

Just for Fun / So, so true.

3737
Before you, lies a sizeable scrip of leather, bundled around a large assortment of parchment, papers, and scraps of canvas. It seems to be quite old; the leather is cracked, the leaves of writing folded therein in various states of yellowing, water damage, and general disrepair. An assortment of pouches, sewn onto the outside of the leather, appear to hold various oddments and mementos, some of which appear quite broken, others of which simply look as though removing them from thier long-time resting places would tear the entire bundle apart. The whole thing is tied with a length of cord that looks suspiciously like a bowstring, but which comes loose easily, and without damage to either it, the scrip, or the writings inside. Carefully unfolding the leather scrip, reveals the contents to be exactly what they appeared to be from the outside: an array of parchments, papers, linens, and canvases, all written on in either charcoal, or an ink which has faded slightly with age. There are more pouches sewn into the inside of the scrip, but the parchment laying prominently on the top of the pile of papers catches your eye. It is a fine leaf of parchment, only slightly yellowed with age, but the writing thereon is smudged, and in some places blurred, where water had dripped onto it. Still, it is clearly legible, entirely by virtue of the regularity of the hand it is written in, however angular that script is. Entirely in Common, the page is crossed with even lines of text, the angular letters somehow elegant in thier simplicity. At the bottom, though, is a note that seems totally apart from the rest of the writing, and appears, too, to be less worn by time and hardship. It is in the same hand as the rest, but slightly more stylized, and reads, simply, "What I thought to be the last, was only barely the first... Irony, a hallmark of my life."

--------

"Well. Herein lies the (possible) final statement of Pyyran Rahth, self-named adventurer and infamous bloody fool. I have always despised the necessity to write; fooling with inks, charcoal, or even a woodmarker has always been tedious. It isn't that I lack mastry of the language, or that I have any deficiency in the fine control of my fingers... Merely that I find it far too time-consuming. Amusing, then, that I take the time to waste my figurative breath, complaining on this parchment about having to go on with what I am extending by my own actions?

I'm not sure how I got here. Mentally, yes; I walked, ran, hid in the backs of wagons, sneaked, slinked, and generally meandered down whatever roads I could find, resting in shelters much like this leaking, smelly amalgam of warped wood they call a barn. But it still seems as if I could not possibly have done this of my own volition; what adventure is there in this? What pleasure, what excitement, what plunder or fame? Admittedly, I have seen small bits of all of these, and have thought my travels the best investment of my time and effort, but at this moment, I have little more than the gloom of my surroundings.

Almost, I wish I were home again, back to that little village that I can't even be sure is East, West, over or under me. Back to farming, back to practicing with Elder Fynnel at fencing, back to the knife-throwing, stone-skipping, racing, and riddle matches at the Festivals, back to everything. But it was so unbearably dull, there! There was nothing more a man could hope for but to one day join the Village Council as an Elder, or to some day own a farm apart from that of his family's. Nothing changed, nothing grew. And when that Bard came through... The tales he had told, I have not the parchment to record, nor the skill to merit thier repetition. But I saw that there was more out in the world, greater things! A grand adventure, that has become a grand discomfort.

A man who passed me in the road told me that there is a city a few leagues from here; if I'm lucky, I'll make it before dark tomorrow. However, the luck that would take would be incredible, as I have not eaten anything in days... The homes I have approached refused to even let me work for a meal, and I was never one for forestry. I am struggling to stay awake even now, and am thankful that this farmer had forgotten his lantern out here; it is by that forgetfulness that I am able to scribe these words, which may well be my last. If I am found here, I doubt I will wake, and if I do, it will almost certainly be to a pitchfork in my belly. But... I cannot fight the natural course of things, only try to weasel out of them, as always. I've tried to lead my life well enough, and I hope there will be much more of it ahead. Thanks be to Katia if I find something edible before I keel over, and thanks be to Shadon if I escape here. If not...

Perhaps there will never be anything truly remarkable about this son of a grain-farmer. Perhaps there never has been. But perhaps, whoever reads this (as I plan on burning this, if I live) will take my advice, and stay in thier homes, instead of setting out on some mad quest for glory. If there is a wonder at the end of my journey, it is not worth this interim. Heed me, and live a full life where you are.

Myself, I'm going to sleep.

General Discussion / Contact question (Boards-Ingame)
« on: October 03, 2005, 01:40:00 pm »
I understand that there is no direct way to send messages from someone not on the game, to someone currently playing (at least that I have found)... So what about indirect ways? Not all players check the forums every time they go on. Is there anyone who makes a habit of passing along things they've seen that concern someone else (ICly), if they've not already responded to it?

I imagine I'm not the only one who can't get on the game while at work, but can still access the forums.

Wild Surge Inn / For Acacea Dragonrider-
« on: October 03, 2005, 09:15:00 am »
A somewhat battered leaf of yellowing parchment rests upon one of the larger tables of the Wild Surge inn, one corner of the thrice-folded letter tucked into a gap between the sanded wooden boards. Clearly visible, in slightly smudged, but still easily legible charcoal markings, is the adress "For Acacea Dragonrider-," spelled out with a somewhat stylized, angular script.  When unfolded, the page reads as clearly as its outer label, though the charcoal is further smudged, and even bled a bit on one edge, where someone had apparently spilled thier drink.  "To Acacea Dragon-riding, Rat-wrestling, Spider-slaying, Chasm-jumping, Bread-tasting, and-a-whole-host-of-other-things Thistletounge:  I apologize for my sudden departure the other night; I had forgotten why I make it a rule to drink nothing other than wine, whiskey, brandy, and rum. I was suddenly reminded, and was forced to make a rather hasty exit, so as not to ruin those fine vestements you seem so fond of wearing. I hope we could give our conversation another try, and perhaps you could tell me more about that dragon you mentioned.  I still have a few errands to run in Hlint; things to deliver, lost trinkets to retrieve, a bit more pocket change to collect, that sort of thing... But I hope that when I've settled all of that, we could find our way to Leilon, and I could buy you a proper drink at that 'Leilon Arms' place you spoke of. That city sounds like more of a place then Hlint, in any case.  I hope you're finding yourself well, and not losing any more travelling companions to spiders.  Best of wishes,  ~ PYYRAN RAHTH, 'ADVENTURER'.  P.S. If you are not Acacea, it is requested that you return this letter to its place on the table. Thank you."
