Wild Surge Inn / To Discuss The Threat
« on: May 23, 2007, 12:58:29 pm »
If a meeting place has not already been chosen. I will be at Stormcrest for any of those willing to go with me to investigate the recent matter of Otherworldy beings invading Layonara. These large , very fast beasts are resistant to most magics , and seem to create darkness around them. Many of you have seen them in your travels and therefore have something to add. Please meet me at Stormcrest to dicuss

//This is in junction with the Dark Beasts quest on the calendar and therefore will share the same time. if a starting place has not already been decided//

I found your hat or Helmet , Why you wandered into the Goblin Fortress Is Beyond Me. It was Laying In A Pile Of Stones Within The Bridges. I Did As You said, Bypassed The Satyrs, Ignored the front rectangular door cut into the circular log, and went in through the side passage. The Hat is yours for when you are willing to retrieve it. I look forward to my reward but enjoyed solving this riddle more.

General Discussion / A Request for Consistency
« on: May 13, 2007, 08:55:58 pm »
First of all I want to state primarily that I mean no harm by this post. I am simply stating my opinion, which you are free to agree or disagree with at your digression. Just please, do not chastise me for having the opinion that I do, because it is unlikely to change in that manor. If you disagree by all means discuss.

The reason for this post, finally being posted comes up with another recent one on Shadowdancers and what they are and are not allowed to accomplish in accordance with the way they are done in standard D&D. The second thing I want to state is I have little ground knowledge of D&D Besides what I learned while studying third sources to better my rp and understanding of Layonara.

For just over a year I’ve been rping here and most of that time I’d like to think of myself as very active in quests spanning most if not all of the GM team. During this time I’ve seen many things done by players, and attempted many things my self. Most of these things needed GM support to happen. They were not hard coded into the NWN mechanics and therefore were made to happen by GM intervention at best and purely rped at 'worse’.

During this time, I’ve seen spells and abilities that classes should , by D&D rules possess done, and others turned down by GMs. For example, Dream speaking, Gaes/Quest, etc. are different in Layonara then they are in D&D.

A Recent post by Dorg stated that D&D Rules are not technically Layonara rules. Just because it’s a class standard or a spell standard in D&D does not mean it is in Layonara.

 That’s fine.

What is less fine is when a character can do something on one quest only to find that the exact same thing is impossible or not to be done in Layonara by the decision of another GM on another quest.

So , humbly, my request is a bit of consistency, and perhaps some ground rules. The playerbase doesn’t, as far as I know, realize its limits. Some of them believe their limits are what NWN gives them and that’s not nessecearily true. Conversely some believe D&D 3.5 rules spells abilities etc are their limits, and that’s not always correct either.

So I ask for perhaps some ground rules. “This this and this” can be done “this this and this” can’t, that would remain static for quests from one GM to the next.

I realize what I’m asking would take the GM team, or atleast Leanthar, EdtheKet, etc.  to sit down and that’s extra time that lots of people do not possess. I also realize this just sets Even more rules and regulations to a game that is ruled and regulated enough. I just think it would be beneficial to the player base to know what they can and can not do, so that they are 1) Confident in their actions on quests and off 2) Do not feel slighted when their characters are told they cannot do something on one quest that worked perfectly fine on another and 3) Know the limits of their characters power.

Thank you for listening, and considering. I hope this did not come off as insulting as it was not my intention.

 Feel free to discuss.

With Respect,
Jessica

General Discussion / Trip to the Deep
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:32:20 pm »
Thinking about planning a trip to the Deep/Underdark some time early tomorrow.

The times I was thinking:

10AM PDT
1PM EDT
5PM GMT

I've no need for Emeralds as such emeralds will be on a rolling basis. Mithril will be obtained if needed and split equally amongst those that do (I don't mean need to sell here. I mean making an item for yourself that requires mithril). Rule three is that I only want people rolling for loot items they'll use. Use common sense and courtesy here, I'm going to put my faith back into the community for this :)

RSVP here if interested if I get enough Ill put it onto the calendar. If a better time presents itself by a majority it'll be rescheduled.

----

My second Idea is to travel some areas less widely explored. The planes, unless I'm mistaken aren't accessible anymore which is a pity because they provided new and interesting places to explore. If anyone has any ideas in this aspect feel free to throw them in.

Truthfully I'm just up for a challenge here. If this falls through it'll probably be instances and the like :(

The Memoirs of Rhynnala Asantiani
Book 2

Prologue: Visits Home

Home? How can one define the concept of home? Is the home a place where one is born, or is that simply the place to which you call 'home’ town or some other such finery? What is home?

This question was the one pondered as the woman, now twenty-nine years of age stepped off the small boat, adorned with nets for fishing, and onto the sandy beach of the world beyond.  Once again she found herself back in the small villiage aptly named Villiasport: the Villiage on the Port. Perhaps not the most original of names, but what are names but means to which one identifies?
She took her boots off before departing, opting for the feel of the sand between her toes. Just like the old days She thought. She could swear as she walked the small make shift path from beach to dirt road, slipping her shoes back on in between, that she could recognize most of the faces still. Here were faces she had not seen for years, faces that once belonged to small boys and small girls and view viewed from the eyes of a small child all those years ago. Now they were rugged with work, and adorned with wrinkles, hair of those no older nor younger than her tainted gray. Tans and burns decorated the skin of her peers. Years of Labor had left some toned and others far too weak, Some were skinny and in the animals that walked the streets you could see the bones through their skin. Here she walked, well fed (As well fed as she ever chose to be), well clothed, well protected. So this is the result of the Darkness. This is what Blood had done to my home.

Up now, along the road to a slightly larger cottage set up for two rather large families; one of human nature the other of dwarven blood, built up upon the ashes of the first. Life long home. The girl’s eyes drifted to the side of the house, two mounds with make shift grave markers. Here lies Lavinia and Maroclas Asantiani may their souls find the halls of Vorax Above. She knew the engraving by heart.
She carried with her one bag of unusual origins, and pulled out of it, quite impossibly a metal staff with a flat edge. With this she wandered to the front door of her house.
A brawny dwarf answered the door, and looked up. “Oi! It be 'dat magiker sister 'o yers!” He called into the house. He looked up, the long distance again to the girl’s face and grinned satisfactorily.
The girl at the door was pleased. She smirked and pulled next from her bag a corked brown tinted bottle of whiskey. “Hello to you too Uncle Dun’Dun.” And shoved the bottle into the dwarf’s outstretched hands. She side stepped the dwarf into the house and yelled down the hall. “Oi! Don’t you scrawny axe twirlers know how to greet your kin!?”

Too many hours, too many dances, too many empty bottles of ale later, the girl exited the back door of her home, quite sober. She sat, cross legged staring at her parents’ grave. She allowed her mind to wander. Three now, three that he has taken from me.
She rose, almost from impulse, and began to scavenge the area for a few sticks. What she found was even better. Two small planks left over for some wood work on a house or boat of some such.  Using a rope from her bag to tie them together, she pressed the bottom half into the mound close to her parents’ gravesite. Going through her seemingly bottomless pack, she next removed a dagger that glowed red, with a story all its own, and began to carve onto the wood.

                    Amari A. L. L.

Satisfied with the makeshift monument, she lifted herself off the ground, brushing the dirt and leaves from her clothes. She looked about for a moment before her eyes settled on another small dirt path, almost completely overgrown with bushes and weeds. Cutting the over brush away with her dagger, she found her footing each time and continued down the road.
It took three quarters of an hour but eventually the illusionist made her way back to familiar ground; or what was left over it. The Ashen ruins of the tower were now covered in vines and bushes just like the road before.
Many hours were spent there; staring, circling, sitting and reminiscing of times when this, unlike the boarding house for the Voraxite missionaries, was her home. She would come back her periodically, if only in mind if not in body. She had to. This was her home as much as the villiage was, as much as Hlint at been, as much as Dalanthar and the manor there was now.

And Saebhel would always be a part of her life...

Bending down, she reached in her bag again for a small vial, and gathered up some of the ashes trapped beneath a large pillar.  She tied a rope in a criss cross method around the vial and attached the rope to a chain, donning the vial of ashes around her neck. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust....

And with that thought, and a power-word read from a tome she was back in familiar halls, the rustling of thousands of books filling her ears as they flapped; some freely, some in their chains and cages. And there she settled. Where she felt most comfortable, where she felt wanted.

The  true meaning of home...

Introduce Yourself / Obligatory Introduction Thinggy
« on: March 12, 2007, 07:34:38 am »
Well Hey, This looks fun so I suppose I’ll write a little blurb up to.

...

Hi!

Anyway, My name is Jessica, Lynn Juniper is a pen name from my middle name and the street I was born on, in case you’d like to know. I’m 18 as of last December and a freshmen (urg) in college studying Journalism as my major. I enjoy writing (anything really) editing ( I try not to do it unless asked), Reading/being read to (yes I’m childish in that aspect) , and hmm...Video games!

Well I started the whole RPG thing with Final Fantasy and liked those a whole lot up until around the time I got my first computer, then I decided to give MMORPGs a try at the prodding of a friend and downloaded Ragnarok Online. Well that was fun for a little while at least, in a cute little way. All the while I participated heavily in Text based rping with a small group of friends that would write 20 page posts in a round creating the story as we went along. Meanwhile NWN sits in a dusty corner of my room until one day around a year ago I decide to pick It up because I’ve heard of people using it to make their own RP worlds. I clicked on some random “NWN Prestige World Top 100” List, found Layonara , clicked and joined. And well, Here I am.

Well, I guess I should say that I’m online quite often and am always around to answer any questions the best I can. My main character, unless you don’t know already, is Rhynn, and if you don’t know her yet you will. A lot of people love her, a lot of people hate her. But I have lots of fun with her and hope that my RP experience with you, fun times, or conflict, is enjoyable. See you in game!

EDIT:  Fear the blurriness of my crappy camera.

General Discussion / Wizard's Convention
« on: March 07, 2007, 09:38:43 am »
I'm thinking about holding a wizard's convention with my character Rhynn. Old and New Wizards are invited (Sorcerers may come but they may feel left out.). Basically its a get together for Wizards (And mages) new and old to come together, exchange spell opinions, show off their spellbooks, help the younger mages with spell selections, show off (Because all wizards love to do that..come on. Admit it!) Sell scrolls, and maybe even a wizard's duel or two.

This will be held in the arena in Fort Vhel.

The date is not yet certain. if anyone's interested post here with the times good for you.

I can do any day after noon that I don't have a quest scheduled for, and Im usually pretty flexible.

Fixed Bugs / Subraces on LORE
« on: March 06, 2007, 09:30:14 am »
Not exactly a bug , but sort of misleading. I notice the subraces say the following:

For example:

"NWN syntax entered into Subrace Field:

    * grayelf
    * Grayelf
    * Gray Elf"

The third one doesn't work, and will result in it not registering with the spaces. Its like that for all of them I presume.

From Orth:I think LORE's automatic CamelCasing is separating the word Gray Elf as it's programmed to do and indeed spaces are not allowed...

Pyyran wishes me to express his apologies on his behalf. His internet went Kabam. Dead. Splat.

He's sorry for leaving abruptly.

General Discussion / A Big Thanks to the Dwarves (And Orion)
« on: February 20, 2007, 01:32:18 pm »
For letting Rhynn in with your group and letting me rediscover the dwarven side to her. For lots of fun and letting her come to terms and re-embrace her heritage (Well, technically). It was lots of fun. Great RP From all , I look forward to a Part Three!

And Thanks to Orion for that fun escapade in the Giant caves! I thought we were done for!

And Thanks to the random giant who decided to drop his Iron Great Axe just for Rhynn on this special occasion.

Roleplaying / How Technologically Advanced Are We?
« on: February 17, 2007, 07:36:28 pm »
Alright, this has been something that's been getting to me for a while. How technologically advanced is Layonara? Our characters have gnomish tinkering devices, Magic for every occasion, 'jukeboxes' but do they have, for example Indoor plumbing or a way to keep meat cool in those chests?

I know Layo is fictional and takes place in the 'middle ages' but I thought it would be fun to muse on. What technological luxuries do/don't our characters have?

I've been informed that that was the name of the woman whom I have won the prize (An Ice Enchantment of the third power from). As such I am looking for this woman so I can claim the prize won.  I hope this message is seen and we can come up with a time to meet.

Thank you,
