Dragon Retribution / For now, operate like you
« on: October 05, 2016, 11:17:22 am »

For now, operate like you would on a quest. What you would openly emote put in the thread. Something you would send over DM channel handle via PM or IRC. Best judgment will apply here and if we need to tweek things as we go, we'll do that.

Dragon Retribution / We would like to encourage
« on: October 05, 2016, 01:03:42 am »

We would like to encourage this yes, but tempered with the limitations that everyone will have. Few people will be an expert on anything but using relevent knowledge to further the story is definitely encouraged.

Additionally, when considering these things we hope folks will try very hard to keep their character's knowledge separate from their personal knowledge. For example, we're hoping no one wants to try to use magic to 'isolate the virus strand' or something of that nature as that's clearly beyond the tech level of the world. Using the character's healing knowledge to perform more intensive and less effective (by modern standards) experiements would be welcome.

We certainly want to prioritize lore and story over mechnics and boxes but we do want to balance it with some IG reality.Lia has spent the last 50 years sailing, but these are elvish years (re-)learning and not human years and the knowledge is somewhat skewed by this fact. Additionally, her sailing methods and knowledge may be highly influenced by the crew(s) she sailed with and so not everything she knows may translate across the board.

We know this is as much a WIP for you guys as for us, so don't worry, we're all figuring this out by turns together.

As the affliction wears on, the death count rises and the smoke of funeral pyres rises from an uncounted number of locations where the Wasting Death has touched, a special envoy of Aeridinites arrives in Hurm and sets up in one of the wards established by others of their faith. It seems to those who observe that the Aeridinites themselves were not the most important part of the arrival but rather the provisions they brought with them. Within a couple of weeks, the first “good” news of the ordeal starts to emerge. Though far from a true cure, the Aeridinites have been able to stem the progression of the disease among those who show only the earliest of symptoms. Their work spreads to a few other wards. Though the numbers of those lucky survivors remain few and no more than a glimmer of hope.

Introduce Yourself / Hi LFFF and welcome back.If
« on: September 07, 2016, 11:19:24 pm »

Hi LFFF and welcome back.

If you're interested in discussing ideas for character issues the best place is to just post directly here: http://layonara.com/forums/the-layonara-community/ask-a-gamemaster

If there some thing that you would like to discuss more privately, you could check the GM roster in the same forum I just linked and contact one of the GMs there. Currenly I'm the only active character approver so I'm a reasonable person to poke but most of the GMs should be able to  help you hash out details.

Rumour Has It / ….As the bird from Liwich
« on: August 15, 2016, 11:33:49 pm »

….As the bird from Liwich Castle neared Bitterridge, it set down and took rest in the small woods just a little ways from the town, less than an hour as the bird flies. It would never lift back off to continue it’s urgent delivery, as the illness had infected the small creature before it departed. It took ill and would later die in the small copse of trees, unremarked on for weeks to come.

Bitterridge was in the midst of it’s own crisis, locking down it’s borders and trying to keep out trades folk from Boyer. For whatever reason, the border town had been hit the hardest, already struggling with an over flowing healing ward. Bitterridge was also the site of the first Rofirien response teams. Some efficient stations popped up in afflicted neighborhoods literally overnight after the first week of infection. For whatever reason, the Rofirienites had been watching the town and got to work before there was ever a word sent out for help…

...It was the livestock that were noticed first. Cows and pigs eventually also the horses and goats, developing coughs. At first it was just a cow here or a pig there. Most farmers thought the odd coughs were a matter of the heart going bad and put the creatures down when they didn’t respond to best wellness efforts. However, soon after the first one went down, others took ill, and so did some of the family. The youngest and most frail went first but in at least one case, an entire extended family took ill after having eaten the meat of the first cow that took ill, not realizing their mistake until it was far, far too late.

By the time the lone bird arrived in Liwich Castle to beg aid for the Redferns arrived the city was already beginning localized quarantines to lock down the spread of the disease. A response was dispatched immediately though the aid itself would not be soon coming. At the same time a bird was sent to North Point, begging mercy from the people who saved them when the Black Plague last struck their kingdom….

…. In the Redferns, comfortable little town seated between two mountain ranges, a well loved woman and her unborn child die in the night after a mysterious illness took her. The wasting of the disease was so rapid and potent on her vulnerable form that not all of the symptoms manifested for identification. It wasn’t until one of the healers who tended her took ill. The coughing and struggles to draw breath fully manifested that the others knew what horrible disease had killed her. At much the same time as Wymere’s announcement, Redferns locked down it’s borders and cried out for help, sending one (they hoped) pure bird to Liwich Castle…..

…. A few weeks after the so called Heralds of The Black Plague left in their dramatic fashion, a number of small children passed away. As these things happen, even before the coming of the “Heralds” they were all ill with a disease of another kind. Their parents took them for treatment to local healers and at first they had responded well. However, as the illness lingered in it’s slow healing way, another illness struck them. How the disease made it’s way to the small children, no one can say. It took the healer too long to catch the secondary infection, as the symptoms lined up with the first for a while. When the coughing became so terrible that the children could no longer eat, the healers put their heads together to find a solution.

The first child passed away only a week later. With the symptoms unfortunately confirmed, a cry went up in the town: The Wasting Death had arrived in Wymere…

« on: August 15, 2016, 09:49:46 pm »

…. in a small shack that has stood for many years in the outskirts of Hurm, an old woman passes away in relative obscurity. Having lived there for ages, alone and independent, no one noticed her take ill. It was only after a second week of her usual trips into market that anyone began to comment on her whereabouts. By the third week of her absence, a runner is sent by concerned citizens to her home, having taken that long to even figure out where she lived. The body is found, thin and frail, curled up in the leavings of what looks like the throes of a horrible illness. Various fluids and stenches make the runner himself have to quickly vacate and empty his guts outside of the home.

He returns later with a small group of friends and attempt to do the poor woman justice in her sending off. Her body is tended, her property set a blaze along with it. A dark cloud of smoke billows in the wind, gently carrying into town and beyond. Solemnly, the five strong young folks make their way back into town, after the last of the controlled burn had been seen to…..

Character Submissions / Hi Teo,Sorry that it has
« on: August 14, 2016, 10:44:36 am »

Hi Teo,

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you on this.

For alignment shifts (and deity shifts, just mentioning for completeness) we like to see about 6 weeks of entries. Right now we have about two weeks of entries, a little bit more than that. I'd like to see a little bit more coverage before we consider this request in full. If it is possible, I would like to have you continue your entries until August 28th, 2016 and then bump this thread when you have finished your 'last' entry for that time period (not before the 28th obviously).

If there is some complication with this method, please let me know and we can come up with another way to document over that time frame.

Rumour Has It / willhoff wrote:After chating

Quote from: "willhoff"&cid="2760708"

After chating up some local salts at the docks about the rumours of the Black Plague Vrebel walks the permiter of the town studying the fortifications.  The reminisings of the old salts about the last attack on this town from the Blacks finally sinks in.  He also hears word of the Rofireinites movements and mobilizations.  Realizing he has to take action he heads to the town government center asking to speak to Regnant Morgenson and the local clergy.  He'll fill them in on what has recently transpired in the Mossy Crypt, taking full reponsibility.  He'll also offer his full support to help defend the city offering his mastery skills of woodmaking, tinkering and weapon making among others.  He'll also search to find if there are any Rofireinite mobilizations in the area and speak with them as well .  Lastly he offers to help pay out of his vast fortune whatever the costs to help prepare the city for what is surely to come.

Here we go again.  If they've fought them before they can fight em now.  That Black finally got his for what he's done and I got more of that when he comes back.

He mutters to himself as he heads into town

On his way toward the Mannor of the Regent, Vrebel over hears a number of supportive statements about the Regent's declaration to lock up any and all people responsible for the stirring of the Black Plague, as well as (possibly empty) threats to lcok up their families, their friends and their gods. A few people discuss his public rantings with a mixture of awe and fear, wondering what lengths he will go to when trying to punish those responsible. It is clear to Vrebel that the public generally supports the declaration.

LORE Ideas, Suggestions and Requests / I will update with the same
« on: August 13, 2016, 07:46:01 pm »

I will update with the same note and edit the original description to remove as many possible confusions as I can. Obviously I can't change skill names. I believe Ed's correction was specifically in reference to the word 'Ki' and the cultural references as well as material that's very commonly used in other proeprties. Rather, the imagination aspect is usually fine so long as we make sure to steer clear of certain references.

Aditional note: At some point when I can dig up the time, Monk is getting a more Layo-centric description, as all classes eventually will (some of which have been done).

Layonara Server / Alright everyone!First of
« on: August 13, 2016, 12:59:42 pm »

Alright everyone!

First of all, thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding, both last night and over the next few days. I'm posting here for the visibilty and then I will be moving over later today to address grievances individually. Unfortunately, this issue overlapped some prior commitments by both DBGMs and they cannot see to anything regarding this issue (beyond what they already have) until probably Sunday, Aug 14th (U.S. Central for global reference). Please do not take any actions with your characters until you hear from Dorganath, Orth or a GM operating under their instruction. Just making the server stable and non-crashing for logins took at least 2 hours last night. Some of you do know how this goes, others don't so I'm trying to be very clear so everyone has an understanding of what's going on and why things will be taking a while. Last time we had something like this go down (Dec '15) there were unilateral and uninformed actions taken that complicated the process. Please don't do that. It will delay your recovery and return to normalcy.

Step 1 - for everyone seems to be have completed. We need a grievance thread for the afflicted characters. If that is done, there's nothing else you (the player) can do for the next couple of days. Don't worry about contacting them or asking about other things. All of the information will be funneled to you through those grievance threads as soon as it is available.

Step 2 - will entale the DBGMs going over your .bic and other files to see what's corrupted, what can be restored (if anything) and what unique and individual actions can be taken. Between Orth and Dorg, they've already put in a few collective hours of work on this, so there's some ideas but the picture is not yet complete. Please be patient until this step can be completed.

Step 3 - will be feedback from the team about where each character stands and what steps you will need to complete following that. I would look for that to happen over the next week but please understand they are balancing these tasks with a very busy time period (outside of Layo) and they can only do so much.

Step 4 - will be different for each character based on the feedback from Step three. (And now the steps are getting a little silly so I'll leave it at that for now.)

Again, thank you SO MUCH for your patience and understanding. We know this is frustrating. Both Orth and Dorg are frustrated as well, struggling with preventing future episodes and trying to understand what is going on. They really don't want this kind of stuff happening to you guys and are doing their very best to fix the cause. Especially, we're sorry for the folks who got hit right before their player event and may now have to rethink playtime plans since the original characters were afflicted and unplayable for the moment.

Later today I will be cleaing out the grievance forum and getting your threads all ready for feedback and then we should be all set until Dorg and/or Orth have time to complete the research needed.

Thank you, apoligies and all of that can not be said enough.

In the week following the apparent (and dramatic) disappearance of the doom sayers, the Church of Rofirien puts out a call to all able hands of any skill set. Those answering the call are put to immediate work, taking stock, coordinating the movement of supplies and bodies and/or actively being trained for healing work at all levels. All of their prepatory work seems, to even the casual observer (who might actually pay attention to such things), readied for mobile work in localities.

In the first few days of this openly observable preparation in Mistone, the islands and some places in Dregar, some note the appearance of white robed individuals appearing to be Aeridintes arriving with additional supplies.

Fixed Bugs / Hi Olme,For the immediate
« on: July 28, 2016, 12:30:51 am »

Hi Olme,

For the immediate needs, you should be able to meet with a GM IG and have an NPC 'vender' sell your character a holy symbol of Kith, if that hasn't been done already. We will look into the longer term issue as we can.

Thanks,

Dually noted and will add it to the to-do list. I believe that will require getting through some quest write ups so likely to take some time (a lot unfortunately). I just wanted to comment and let it be known it is officially on the list.
