Rumour Has It / Benjamin is seen entering the Councils office
« on: May 16, 2009, 08:57:02 pm »
A very cleaned up Benjamin parks himself in front the city council office secretary and waits to be recognized. "Scuse me, my name is Benamin Poetr and I'd like ta file some papers ta have a dark elf recognized as a legal adventurin citizen of Hempstead with the same right of entry as I have, One Yvale of Silkwood, " He says quietly awaiting the odd look he's sure is forthcoming.

"Fore ya ask if I've lost my mind, the answer is nope, and I'm very serious bout this, so do ya have a form or someone I ken speak to about it? Yvale has proven herself ta be both trustworthy and useful in the defense of Mistone and I'll attest ta the fact in writing if needs be." He adds with a straight face. "Further, its my understandin that this sort of thing has been done before and I'm willing ta use the proper channels, jest not sure what's those would be." He finishes by standing with an earnest expression awaiting a response.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Coach
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:05:23 am »
I've seen this implemented in other worlds so its not original, but its an idea I'd love to see implemented here. Simply, some established coach lines into and out of the interior of the continents much like ship travel. The difference is the coach runs at regular intervals and even after purchasing a ticket, the character waits a few minutes until the next coach. Tickets could range from fifty to a hundred true. Of course the run would have to be across established roads that are relatively safe. Say Hempstead/Vehl to Hlint would be viable route or Leringard to Llast. Just an idea for those of us who refuse to purchase a horse. ;)

Ask A Gamemaster / Question - Who's the chief moderater for Forums?
« on: March 26, 2009, 02:26:29 pm »
I'm set to moderator for the Angel Guild Forums and a member asked about doing some Spring Cleaning. I've gone through and soft deleted most of the really old threads that no longer bear any significance to our current operations, but as I did so I noticed that there doesn't seem to a time limit on this function so threads I soft deleted are still there, taking up eyeball space. Is there someone who could permenantly delete say all threads in The Angels forums over a year old please? I would also ask that whoever this individual is wait one week from today so that all our members can take a look see at what has been deleted and have an opportunity to object/offer a suggestion first.

Thanks much.

I awoke to find my wounds bandaged and a priestess kneeling over me. Her red eyes flared angrily as I tried to sit up. "Stop! I barely managed to stop your lifeblood as it is you fool." I cease my struggles as the pain hits me and I remember the slashing blade that sundered by my magical shield as if it were paper and rent the now bandaged mess that is my stomach. The Priestess mutters some words of healing in a tongue unfamiliar to me and I feel a warmth pervade my body and I give up the struggle to remain conscious. As I slip into the long dream, I remember.

My name was once Be'min A'llwis, a house guard for what is now a lost house, one of many among the dark elves of the deep and best forgotten. I am a free fighter among those that pay a high price for treacherous acts, but nothing for the life that is taken. I fell among the house less and together we were inducted into one house war after another by our captain, a short, canny and slippery person by the name of H'wan Be'gal. He taught us to fight as a cohesive whole, not as the raiding parties as my people prefer to do, but he did so by bribes, threats, and beatings. We of the Free Guard learned our lessons well and amongst our ranks their was a level of battle trust not seen in most dark elf bands. We were in high demand by the various houses, most of whom sent our well trained ranks against their own slaves to put down rebellions, not that the cattle of the surface fought with any grace in the long dark being both nearly blind and lacking proper weapons. I was sickened by the slaughter and so sought a position as a scout for the company.

As one of the handful of scouts I am fortunate to not face the fighters of the opposition house in the last battle of the company. I heard the sounds of my comrades dying, their screams cut ruthlessly short by spells and blades as I relayed battle information to Captain H'wan on foot. "Sound the retreat" he hand signs to me and I rush to a high point and flash the sign. Turning, I realize to late we have been flanked by a group of fighters, it is then that I see my captain cut down and my own defense made useless by superior speed and skill.

Months pass with no real sense of time other than my slowly healing wounds and slacking body fever. The fever takes some of my memories and I mourn for many of the lost skills of stealth I am certain I once possessed. A nasty lump on the back of the head has left me with occasional bouts of dizziness and I feel clumsy, my balance is not what it once was. I compensate by building my strength as much as I can, volunteering to move trade goods into the compound under the watchful eyes of the house guards.

I soon realize I am a slave of the house we fought, I am put through some curious training as a slave. Forced to forgo the usual tongue and speak the wretched tongue of darthir, the surfacers along with the common trade tongue, I wonder what I am being trained for? My masters will not tell me and any questions only bring a beating, curiously enough, meant only to comply obedience through pain and not cripple me.

Finally, after many cycles, I am brought to a secret place, where I am forced to my knees in front of a matriarch. she smiles and I am immediately wary, among my people such acts are precursor to treachery. Slowly I relax in her presence as nothing occurs other than the change of her personal guard with the usual taunts and jeers I am accustomed to.

"You will do", She says to me, a sneer marring her perfect face as she takes in a whispered report from an underling priestess. "Attend my words carefully, male, from here out you are my personal spy and here is your target." She chants and with a fingertip forms an image of several dark elf females the air in front of me. One in particular strikes me as unusual. She has greenish eyes and copper hues to her hair. I look at the head priestess puzzled. "Those are your targets, warrior, and they now travel to the above, seeking those of us who have turned from the deep ways. You are to find this particular female and submit to her, and gain her trust. You will have ten years in which to do this before another of my spies will contact you for information. Do you understand?" I nod in acceptance, at least as a spy I will not be forced into slaughtering the helpless. "Yes, High One, it shall be as you say."

With that, I am lead ever upward, to meet others who travel in the same fashion. We speak little to each other as we travel and but I note there are no females amongst our numbers. The air grows cold and is filled with smells I am unaccustomed to until finally we gaze upon a mountains under bright moonlight. My guide, an aging priest, grants me the ability to withstand the cold warning me in surface elf that I must make haste to a human city called Vehl. I step out into the moonlight with some apprehension as my recent traveling companions go their separate ways. I barely survive the long trek to the human city of Vehl as first the blinding light of the accursed daystar hampers my journey and all my training in stealth is tested by white furry beasts I later learn are called the Yeti.

Ask A Gamemaster / Chest not responding.
« on: September 09, 2008, 02:35:08 pm »
I tried to place a personal chest in the Angel's guild cnr room and now it doesn't respond at all to the furniture tool. Can we get a Dm to reset or destroy it?

Chest is fourth from the se corner on the east wall..half into the wall..I was trying to destroy it when this even occurred. Thanks.

Weeblie tried to help, but wasn't able to do anything permanent, suggested we need Dorg to do a database edit? I'll see what a server reset does at a later time.

Rumour Has It / Letter sent to the Hempstead Council
« on: July 23, 2008, 12:44:49 pm »
Sirs,

I've heard on the street that a guildmate of mine, Muhkuman, has been incarcerated for a disruption outside the city gates. As a member of a local trading guild in good standing, I must protest this abuse of the guards and the councils decision to arrest this person. I ask that he be freed and the guards be disciplined.

Development Journals and Discussion / For Law and Justice
« on: July 17, 2008, 11:04:44 am »
Mulnari, Seplar 23, 1435

My first entry in this newly bound book of oak parchments provided by Reus, himself. What shall I write of? Shall I expound on the virtues of service, the pursuit of justice found in the edicts of the church or do as my uncle Daniel instructs and write of the heart?

His is a simple faith, my dear uncle and namesake, yet it has brought him both great pain and great joy. Sister Serissa encourages me to enter the ranks of the Justicars, since my studies have me dwell deeply into Church Law. I find this appealing, yet remember the wise words of Justicar Reus - One must listen in order to be heard. To this end, I have taken a vow of silence for my last year as initiate and only communicate with simple hand gestures and the occasional note. My duties for the last few years have been transcription of ancient texts to common speech and record keeping, in which there has been much since the Temple of Corsain welcomed the law abiding.

Knight - Captain Jennara visits me often as well, and I treasure our time together. Her simple speech and mannerisms hide a strength, that belies her small stature.
She and Sister Serissa both inspire my studies further and I wish to do them both credit with my own service.

This year is quickly ending; however, and on the holiest of holies, Ausir Shining - When the Gold's Eye looks brightest upon all of Layonara, I shall assume the mantle of full priest shortly after my eighteeth summer. I pray to the Great Golden one, that my Uncle and Father will both attend. I feel the presence of my mother, Tariana, close as always here in the temple, so at least one of mine parents shall see my iniate years completed.

Grant me your wisdom, All-Seeing, so that I may see men's hearts and minds and know thier true purpose as to best judge them according to your holy law.

Daniel Benjamin Poetr, Initiate
Temple of the Lord Protector, Vehl, Mistone.

Rumour Has It / Ben Poetr is overheard complaining at the local bar
« on: June 26, 2008, 11:06:24 pm »
*heavily into his cups, Ben Poetr leans against the bar at the One-eyed Harpy*

I'm tellin ya, it happened..Muhk, ya know that orcish fella?, him, myself, and Essa were lookin fer platty ta mine in the swamps when we got jumped by all these shadowy critters..hard ta hit em..they left me feelin awful weak too..

Introduce Yourself / well its about time.
« on: January 21, 2015, 03:47:02 pm »
update: 29 April 2019
Hmm, 4 years since I last touched this and ten years from the initial post. So some updates are in order. Firstly, Both of my pain in the arse children made me a grandfather 4x. Son has a daughter, Daughter has 2 daughters and a boy. Coincidentally, my newest favorite t-shirt reads "Great Dads get promoted to Grandfathers!". Still married, still working the same job except I got a nice lateral and upward promotion with pay raise. What else? Oh, enjoying 5th Edition immensely since a game store opened in town and Roll20 provides some online game time as well with friends scattered near and far.
I must say, I'm excited about Layo moving to Enhanced and I'm going to be giving the transfer a try tonight, already got NWN enhanced , might as well see if I can get Layo working. End of update.

Hello, I've been in Layo for more than a year now but I've never taken the time to introduce myself since the new forums came about. My rl name is Chuck Nicholson and I live and love it here in Southern Minnesota, USA. My Characters here on layo are Ben and Daniel Poetr, two brothers who started from similar backgrounds, grew apart, and are now discovering they have more in common than they thought. Other facts of note: Married almost 17 years to my high school sweetheart, Nancy, and have two pain the arse yet beautiful children, one, my son of 16 years, some of you have met in the guise of Tragor, the half giant. Christine is my oldest and only daughter 17 going on 25 if she has her way. Other fairly close family members who play here are Talia, my sister and Zergon her boyfriend. My real life job involves hardware and software support for a web based lab application and I work for Mayo Foundation in Rochester, MN. To put it bluntly, I'm a hardware monkey..troubleshooting and swapping parts on dell boxes, shipping em off via Fed Ex to keep client sites happy.. Its a boring job, but it pays the bills. As a perk, I often times get to play at work. *looks around for his supervisor.* I started D&D a long time ago when the white wizard graced the cover of the first edition players handbook and through the years have played a more bash style game in various pen and paper groups. Layonara was both a pleasant surprise and a learning experience for me, one I've grown to love, much to my spouse's dismay as my Saturdays and Friday nights are now spent online. Sundays are suppose to be family day, but If I beg hard enough, sometimes I'll be here. I'll leave you all with a quote most should recognize- I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. - *smirks* seeya ig. *some 8 years later*Wow, where does the time go!? and The written word is merely a glimpse through darkened glass at the changes within ourselves and others. I'll stick the form this time I think. I've grown lazier in my old age. :PForum Name: cbnicholson

My character Benjamin Poetr died in Dark Moors on the map with the castle while in the company of Tariana and Drexia. Problem I have is this: as he was dying, NWN crashed out and upon my return as Daniel * I suspected a problem with Ben's death* Ben had no stone. I know he was dead because I saw him eat another arrow for ten damage while lying there helpless at -9 hp :( . The other two were able to recover by their respective stones. I am asking for GM presense at the location of Ben's death just in case I log in alive only to be cut down ruthlessly once again by the worgs gnawing on my bones. :P I will try to log in later as Daniel and request help on the DM channel before making the attempt as Benjamin. Thank you for your time.
