Development Journals and Discussion / Daecael's Journal
« on: April 06, 2006, 04:38:24 am »
[The following scriptures are written in a new leather-bound journal smelling fresh of new leather just out of the tanners shop, the text is neatly written and organized]

*Daecael sits by the graveyard wall of Hlint, leaning on it with his back. He places his backpack by him and unloads what seems to be a journal made of leather, a quill and a bottle of ink... He places the Journal open on its second page on his laps, dips the Quill within the ink and begins writing*
-Entry 1- I finally arrived to Hlint, in good time I might add. I was beginning to think I lost my way from Spellgard, or perhaps read the map Kethtia gave me wrong, bless him. This trade-post is just as mother and Kethtia described to me; small, curious and full of adventure. I made my way quickly to the merchants in the eastside just like Kethtia told me too, and with the money he and mother gave me I bought a longbow of rather good quality and a few arrows... they felt the most natural in my hand of all the weapons I've seen there. I'm surprised I found a weapon fitting of my demands at all... but this bow seems to be fine for now. I then went outside the gate to practice a bit on the trees there... it's all so different than home, I'm not used to being by myself yet. The practice went rather well, as I stated earlier it appears that the bow is very natural in my hands and I had no difficulties using it...  By Xeen, I swear I'm even rather good at it.
Like Kethtia suggested to me I wandered around town looking for people in need of help and I've found quite a few. First there was this lady by the sewers who claimed a giant rat stole her tax records, she directed me to the sewers below and I found the rat crawling about in the second level... It was quite a battle but I managed to kill him - an arrow to his left leg and a rock from the ground to his head and he went down... Quite a pity it was a savage fight and not civil, then again, he was a rat. I returned her the records and she rewarded me quite handsomely, the gold will sure serve me well, and the experience from the venture to the depths is sure good.
I then found the local Undertaker, quite a morbid fellow, who requested me to get him an essence of a dark soul... easy enough. With the aid of a summoned Tome - just like Kethtia did back when I was 54 I think - when we went to clean his basement from rats and the like, quite funny how those flying books fly around and smack things with their flappy covers!  I enchanted my books ability with a spell called "Magic Weapon"... I reckon I saw mom cast that a few times, not too tough to cast and sure helped my book flap his cover harder.  I made my way down the crypts VERY slowly, but safe, and eventually got to my target... it was a fierce fight indeed. My book flapped himself to victory though while I shot arrows from the back, I'm quite surprised I didn't hit the book -  I appear to be very good with my bow. The Undertaker was also very pleased and rewarded me kindly.
I heard people talk in town about a hag named Jasmin that lives in a swamp to the east and that she requires skeleton knuckles. I already had a few on me and wasn't missing much so I made my way to the graveyard's smaller crypts and found some more... those skeleton's are very messy. I went outside of Hlint to the campfire later in order to rest and on the way back a few goblins ambushed me, I wasn't ready. First an arrow hit my shoulder, I felt a sharp pain like I never felt before, I tried to summon a Tome but a goblin hit me in the thigh with his sword and I lost my focus... I was doomed - or so I thought, the gates of Hlint were right by me and so I ran inside. The Goblins who followed me were slaughtered by a few experienced adventurers that were within the towns walls. I was greeted by a drunk bard who's name I do not know, but I choose to call him Beer and a Halfling bard known as Chimes (and many other nicknames such as "Rider of Griffins" and so forth so forth...) It was a warm welcome, first the Bard healed me and then he "inspired" me to go have my revenge... I should have stayed - I made my way out infused with rage and spells the bard planted in me and made my way to the Goblins camp... I've killed a few and got knocked on the back by one - foolish of me. I was lucky to recover before they noticed I was still alive and flee... I was again greeted by the bard who again tried to persuade me into fighting the cursed Goblins... I knew better though and managed to persuade him to do that for me! hah! he left yelling all sorts of battle-cries and what not, I think I could hear the Goblins scream as he stroke them down... I'd say I got my revenge on the little devils.
When he returned he handed us all drinks and we all "basked" in the glorious victory, it was alright. Chimes was very nice to me and we talked for a while - I don't remember much of the beginning as I was a bit drunk (I blame mom and her Xeenite education) but I do remember enjoying it, she then showed me quite a strange object... A small horse or so called Diamond, the hells be ...ed I think I saw it move... or was I drunk?... Also an arcane waver by the name of Tegan was with us.. I think, and she got rather drunk as well!  A few hours later and after we all sobered up a bit I asked them about the Hag and they told me about her and agreed to join me in my search for her - we were also joined by another cloaked adventurer - from the little I saw of her face she appeared to be rather beautiful - I did not catch her name however. We made our way to the swamps cloaked by spells of invisibility while Chimes sang us a tale about a Toranite Knight, I cannot recall the name but it was quite funny... Strange how those knights can't handle a few ladies at once - You'd expect them to be more durable. We made it to Jasmin before the story ended and I gave her the knuckles she required, In return she gave me some gold and a necklace made of a few of the knuckles - I'm sure it will be of use later. Chimes finished the story and we stayed a bit and talked - She mentioned a paladin fallen from grace that goes by the name "Rem" or "Rum"... I don't remember quite well as again... We drank, or at least I did.
We made our way back to Hlint, I thanked Chimes, Tegan and the stranger for the help and took my leave to Fort Llast where I was told I'd find more people in need of help. First there was the guard captain there who required me to get him a few items for his new recruits, he could have just went to the shop by the fort and buy them but I rather I got the reward - and so I got him what he requested and he rewarded me very handsomely with a sum of gold and a helmet of defense - enchanted by spells to help me protect myself better.
Also there was a sage there who required some Wisp essence, I remembered seeing one in the swamps and so I went to fetch it... I recall Kethtia telling me once that creatures like Wisps will require a bit more than normal weapons to hit... So I summoned a tome and enchanted it once again with a spell of Magic Weapon, at first it was killed by the Wisps spells so I fled outside to rest and I summoned another one who made short work of the Wisp - I collected the essence and handed it to the sage in Fort Llast who was quite pleased and rewarded me with yet another handsome sum of gold.
I'm quite pleased of my first week in Hlint - it seems to be full of adventure. Until next time "Dear Journal" ~Daecael.

First off hello!
I've recently (a few hours ago  :o ) bought Neverwinter Nights Platinum...
I was all happy and stuff and started the install until it came to the second disc swamp..
I switch the disc and the computer gets stuck  :(
I tried a few times, I tried cleaning the disc... nothing...
I went and checked the disc on my mothers PC and it's fine...
The other three discs are fine (That's 1/3/4)

any idea what might be wrong?  :(
