Rumour Has It / The Old Stalking Grounds« on: August 10, 2014, 05:29:06 pm »
That night was dark and cloudy, a perfect night for stalking. She had remained at the scene, on the roof top the assassin had used to kill the halfling, looking for someone to come check the scene. While the assassin's aim was true and deadly, her immediate pursuit did not give the assassin time to confirm him kill. She expected someone to come investigate. But no one did. I must be getting rusty, she thought. It had been too long since she'd stalked Vehl. The criminal patterns had changed and she was out of touch. New players were moving pieces, and she hoped some of the old ones were still alive to help. After a pit stop at the One Eyed Harpy to resume being Lavender Blacklace, she made her way quickly and carefully to the Green Dragon's auxiliary entrance, only used for those guests requiring descretion. Making her way back to the room, she met the charter captain, a fellow Tau'ren Officer."You're late," the Captain said, arms crossed and looking angry. "You promised the King-""My promise was that I would not cause trouble." She sighed, and checked on her make up in a small mirror from her satchel. "I ran into a crime in progress, well a few really, and decided to investigate. Something I recall being commissioned to do for Taur'en.""Yes, when you're in Taur'en.""Look, the King granted me leave to return to Mistone, and now I'm here." She tucked the mirror away and looked back at the Captain. "If you want to return to White Mouth Harbor and inform the King of my intentions here-""No, no. I'm just urging caution. Co'rys may be as lawless as you say it is, but a standing exile is not something to ignore from any of the realms." He walked up to her, grabbing her gently by the shoulders. "You are at great risk here.""I know I am." She smiled, then stepped away from him. "I was exiled for doing something terrible. Before I go I have to at least try to balance that out with something good." She picked up her things and went toward one of the suites two bedrooms. "I need to at least try. I do have one favor to ask, however.""What is that?" the Captain asked."Be ready to leave at a moments notice.""Aye, ma'am.""Good." She turned to the Captain from beyond the portal to her room. "Tomorrow starts a return to my old stalking grounds. And I may need a quick exit." First stop, she thought, some old friends.

Rumour Has It / Eaornath D’lisk - The Rebuilding« on: August 07, 2014, 01:06:16 am »
The sun was a few hands above the horizon when the wagons began pulling into Eaornath D’lisk. The villagers began making their way to the town square, whispers and questioning looks everywhere. Ten large wagons in all, drawn by oxen, there muscles bulging beneath the straps and yokes. Their cargo holds loaded with wood, rope, nails, and stone. A few carried provisions, large sacks of wheat and root vegetables stacked high. The occasional crack of a whip and yell of a teamster rose above the buzzing talk. The town Alderman approached the lead wagon and raised his hands, his face full of sorrow. “Sir, although we have need for the supplies you carry, we are unlikely to be able to afford your wares. Some perhaps, but we do not have the money for most of your goods.” The teamster smiled kindly at him. “No need for coin your honor. All of these goods are being provided free of charge by Hilm Castle…” He chuckles, “…and their labor is at no cost as well.” The Alderman follows the man’s pointing thumb and his mouth hangs open in disbelief as he watches a column of carpenters, engineers, stone masons, and soldiers of the Company of the Star making their way into the town. A cheer from the villagers echoes over the rooftops as they eagerly begin helping with the unloading.

General Discussion / Under - Fun« on: August 01, 2014, 10:28:05 pm »
I just wanted to send out a thanks to all the intrepid higher levels that ferried Mimir through some nasty Under Places last night. Lots of fun (except for the period of looking at my corpse ha!) Thanks to Mangus for raising me and for everybody coming back - Gromak, Rasa, Grog, and Kalberen (sp.)The funniest moment for me (and I wish I could have gotten a screenshot) was everyone standing around looking at Mimir's prone form and Gromak asking Mangus - the party medic - "Are you sure that was the right spell??" Next time I promise to stay away from the mage...

Layonara Server / GM breaks and player bonuses« on: June 01, 2014, 12:49:40 am »
Greetings all!As summer is nearly upon us, we would like to announce a couple of things that will be happening over the next couple of months. For starters, beginning on June 1st, the GM team as a whole will be taking breaks. These breaks are voluntary, and we're placing no requirements on people to do so or for how long their breaks will last. The point of this is to let our GMs refresh, take time, and have a period where they are not being held to the responsibilities and expectations of being a member of the GM team. This is something that used to happen with some regularity, but we managed to get out of the habit. This oversight has taken a toll on some GMs. For others, just having a break will be a nice breather, while others may take advantage of the time for summer activities, vacations and time spent with family. The nature of these breaks is that, firstly, they are completely voluntary, though they are also strongly encouraged. GMs are free to take advantage of time off at any time during this period, as many times as they wish and for as long as they wish. For you, the community, this may translate into seeing fewer quests on the calendar during this time. As for the overall duration, this will last until at least the end of July, possibly into August for at least one of our GMs. On the other side of this break period, it is our plan to put the finishing touches on planning for a new plot quest series.I do want to mention that despite these rolling breaks, there will be a GM presence, if no other place than the forums and IRC. If anyone needs help, has a question or whatever, someone should be available to lend assistance.Having said all this, during the same time (June 1-July 31), I will set up the servers with XP and Fortune bonuses as well as gold (and possibly loot) bonuses. As an added benefit, I am throwing in one additional bonus:For this period of time, no Soul Strands will be cut. This is not an IC thing, so like the last time when I kept it a secret, it should not be acknowledged in-character or in-game at all. I of course request also that it is not used as a license to be reckless or exploitive. The key purpose in this is to let people have fun and not worry about character loss.So there it is. Enjoy!

Rumour Has It / QUAKE !!« on: May 28, 2014, 04:44:41 pm »The recent tremors that have plagued Mistone in the region around Haven City and the Silkwood Forest cumulated in the early morning hours of (Layo Date to be added once the sundials are reset) as massive earthquake to shook the region. The shock wave was felt as far as Spellgard and Hlint but the damage was limited to the Silkwood region.
Flash flooding occurred around several dry creek beds as large subterranean aquifer was disturbed. This is thought as well to be the source of flooding in many underground structures of the region. These structures may well remain permanently submerged. Only time will tell. The flooding washed skeletal remains down stream of an old burial site. Proper authorities have been alerted to deal with the re-interment of these souls before they can run amok. There are some reports of a large debris cloud that mushroomed above the forest. Since it occurred in an uninhabited section of the great tract of forest, it is thought to be the collapse of some natural structure or perhaps old ruins in the area.
Haven City thankfully suffered only minor to moderate structural damage and no town residents have been reported as casualties. Haven Castle had several towers partially collapse but they are repairable. The mines that sustain the economy of the town however were mostly devastated by the quake. If the economy is to survive, new mines will have to be built in the surrounding territories.
The mine collapse may have exterminated a large portion of the local gnoll population. It is unknown how many still populated the underground areas in the wake of recent flooding but non there could have survived the cave ins caused by the quake. World Leader Development Quests (WLDQ's) / Deverain - World Leader Application« on: April 15, 2014, 11:25:38 pm »
Here it goes! Character Name: Deverain Current Level: 20 Original Biography: http://layonara.com/threads/1284355-new-character-submission-deverian (Note: When I created the character, I swapped the ‘I’ and the ‘A’ in his name, so the approved name is Deverian, but in game he is Deverain.) Alignment Shift Submission: http://layonara.com/threads/1285900-deverain-alignment-shift-request CDT's - http://layonara.com/threads/1284395-deverian http://layonara.com/threads/10162199-deverains-new-book Lifetime Achievements: Unfortunately, school makes my play hours fall in a strange slot where I always have to log in the middle of quests, so Deverain has been unable to get involved in any long-running quests. I realize this may be a roadblock to my World Leader Development Quest Application, but I’m hoping it can be worked around seeing as how it is real life’s fault not the character’s fault. How I see Deverain becoming a World Leader: Definitely some sort of combat/military quest, but with role play roots. I’m not talking about some purely hack-n-bash quest, but if Deverain is going to become a World Leader, I think it is going to be on the grounds of slaying a dragon or something (Excuse my use of the stereotypical knight-in-shining-armor great deed, but that’s along the lines of what I see Dev doing). Of course, it needs a good chunk of role play and/or political tie-ins. But in general, I see Deverain doing something good and pro-Toran such as protecting a village or slaying an evil beast. What sort of title do I envision for Deverain: I don’t think Dev is really the type for any official titles (Seeing as he’s Chaotic Good in a Lawful Good church). If he did get one it as a side effect of whatever he ends up doing, it would be a benefit, but I don’t think it would be something I’d be intentionally shooting for. I saw him maybe moving up in the church to some sort of place of respect, but definitely nothing official. I figure that if a warrior becomes a world leader, he stays a warrior! Thanks for the consideration, and I understand if Deverain hasn’t been on enough quests to qualify. If that is the roadblock to this application, I understand and I can try to get involved in more quests -Teo

General Discussion / Absent for a while« on: April 08, 2014, 08:32:20 pm »
Hey all, just wanted to keep anyone who is wondering up to date. So my hard drive failed and I've been unable to play for the last couple of weeks. It really isn't a great time for that to happen cause I'm also really busy with:1) Retiring from the Navy2) Moving to Valdosta, GAI probably won't resolve the computer issue until after I get to Georgia, so I won't be playing for a little while. Anyway if you are looking for Gunder, Vladimir, Grogmegor, or Arvan, just send me a PM and I'll answer as soon as I can.Dorax (aka Anthony)

Introduce Yourself / Greetings from an ancient time« on: February 01, 2014, 10:03:31 pm »
Or should I say, circa 2004 - 2007. It's nice to see my character and those he traveled with still remembered in the lore books of old. Part of the many reasons Layonara was (and I'm sure still is) a great place to RP. Perhaps someday I'll have some time to play. But until then, I thought I'd check in and say hello.(Michaelis Draego, Champion of Toran)

Rumour Has It / The fisherman's tale« on: December 11, 2013, 12:56:11 pm »Rumours persist in the drinking establishments of the city of Leringard and its surrounding villages and hamlets, of the fanciful tale of a fisherman of Palden Lake. He apparently while 'night fishing' (though it is noted that his breath told a different tale) oversaw a disturbing event. A shadowy figure with a skull-like head came to stand on a cliff face over looking the water, and stood silently as if waiting. Then (and the account differs depending on the tavern), a man dragged itself out of the lake and began to climb the cliff face to where the first figure stood. A break in the clouds revealed that its skin was greyish-green, and hung off its elongated limbs in folds. When it finally reached the top it faced the skulled figure. No conversation was heard, but a after a few moments both vanished into the night. A fanciful tale for a dark Seplar night.

Layonara Server / Forum reorganization and permission rebuild complete« on: September 15, 2013, 11:32:45 am »
Hello all,The reorganization and rebuilding of the forums completed sometime in the early morning hours today (Sunday, Sept. 15th, CDT). The forums should be fully accessible to everyone once again. In the wake of this reorganization, you may find that some forums are in different locations; server rules are now listed under the community section, GMs have their own introduction forum separate from the Ask A Gamemaster forum, in-character forums (Rumor Has It, Trade and Market Hall, etc.) now have a dedicated container and several other things along these lines. No one should be getting the wide-spread "Access Denied" messages any further, but if there are specific forums that are now invisible and inaccessible to you, please let us know.We apologize for the extended inconvenience and confusion this caused. This last rebuild took longer than anticipated, and we had to attempt it a couple of times before it would complete successfully. We're not anticipating any further needs for this in the near future. For future reference, getting "Access Denied" messages on most or all forums is generally going to be a symptom of this sort of a permissions rebuild process. As we did this time, we will announce such things on the forums (including the main page at http://layonara.com) and on our official social media outlets (Facebook, Google+, Twitter). For convenience, the last few messages on our Twitter feed are located at the bottom of every page on this site. Remember in the case of Facebook, messages we post will not always show up on your feeds, so be sure to visit the page directly.
