Ask A Gamemaster / Shapes and language ears
« on: June 14, 2007, 09:36:50 pm »
I discovered recently, to my pleasant surprise, that when in certain shapes my character gets certain language ears.

With the standard /dm [What I say here

Wyrmling, kobold, and lizard whip master default to draconic ears. :D

The dark elf shape defaults to elf...  With this shape I am wondering if PC dark elves default to elf as well.  Is there a command I could issue while in dark elf shape to speak with dark elf ears?

I would like some clarification on what my character can speak and hear with these.  He never learned draconic, so it seems a bit of a stretch to me that he would be  able to speak and understand a new language just because he shifts to a reptilian shape.

Like, if on a DM event, could I pose as a dark elf and speak dark elf?  Could I shift into a lizard man, and eaves drop on what a group of lizard men were saying?

I am looking for a master wood crafter to make a shield for me, that has good spirits.

I can provide most of the materials.  You will need to provide 2 of 4 yew branches, and the sand paper to make the planks.

Please contact me to negotiate a fair trade.

Ask A Gamemaster / Can I trade helmet of armor II?
« on: May 12, 2007, 02:38:27 am »
I was saying IC that I never got a helmet of armor II because it is metal.  Then Wren sent me a tell saying that I might be able to trade one for a druid version.  Is this true?

Fixed Bugs / Sinister forest

Bug Report

Description: It was like night of the living dark ent.  Excuse my puns, but they were crawling out of the wood work.  They came in groves.   Tialle, Gudlesky, and Neaeana experienced hell of infinite respawning dark ents.  They were spotting us from farther away then they normally do.  As we beat them down, more spawned behind us attacking our rear, while more again spawned from the front and re-enforced those numbers.  Rapid re-spawn, yup.  We seriously came to consensus that a DM must have been angry about something, and was out to kill us, but ShivaD logged in as a player and informed us that no DMs were on line.

Ask A Gamemaster / Dim light and stealth
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:07:55 pm »
I put a fire resistance enchantment on a ring of mine to compensate for my wooden shield...  My character seems to be getting spotted more often now, and I was wondering what the penalty is for having a dim light with stealth.

Fixed Bugs / GWS II Harpy Captivating song not working
« on: April 29, 2007, 02:43:54 pm »
First I want to say that I tried really hard to figure out if I was doing something wrong on my end.  I searched the web with many different key words, and have found no bugs related to this issue.  I have also tried different equipment combinations to see if there is some issue with that.

Description: My harpy shape's captivate song is mostly non functional.  When I first got the shape I tried it out on some ogres and some kobolds and it worked just fine.  Then tried it on giants on Dregar, no effect.  By no effect I mean that the monsters are not rolling a saving throw.  All the creature types I've been experimenting on have no immunities to mind spells BTW.  On west last night I tried it on some gnolls with no effect.  I then unequipped my club, and tried it again and it did work.  I think ahhh, that must be it.  But then I try it again on giants on Dregar and some ant men... no effect.  I have tried swapping out my gloves, no effect.  I am still not 100% that this is a bug, so any suggestions or input for my experimentations would be great.

Bioware Issues / Greater Wildshape II
« on: April 27, 2007, 04:17:01 am »
Description:  There are 2 discrepancies with lore and in game function with Greater Wildshape II.

1.  There is no DEX adjustment listed in Lore for the minotaur shape.  In game DEX = 12 or DEX - 2 for the minotaur shape.  I am not sure which

2. Lore states: "weapon properties only merge into Minotaur shape. Off-hand weapon and bracer/gauntlet/glove properties never merge."

The item merging for these shapes reads exactly the same as the Druid's Wildshape

"Merged: Armor, Helmet, Shield, Rings, Amulte, Cloak, Boots, Belt, Bracers, Weapon (If you had one equipped) or gloves to unarmed attacks."

Except Minotaur ends with the word "Weapon" so no gloves for Minotaur.  Though glove ability and skill bonuses do merge in all 3 shapes ;)

Fixed Bugs / Lower crypt key ~ Krandor
« on: April 17, 2007, 01:08:24 pm »
Description: The lower crypt key is not disappearing from our inventories when we leave the crypt.  The ones in Storans do, so I was kind of expecting this.  Was I suppose to put the key back where I found it?

Location: Krandor crypt

Reproducible: I assume so, as another character in the party had a copy of said key as a permanent part of his inventory.

CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Malar ~ balancing issues
« on: April 13, 2007, 03:38:29 am »
The Malars, not Malor ;) migrited with the last update due to over hunting.

Well no doubt they got over hunted.  Malar hides are a staple of the the layora crafting system.  They are used for armor, bags, slings, gloves, whips, hood of shadows, and mahogany shields.

Roughly, this is like taking adamantium and moving it some crazy place where no one in the game world knows where to find, and believe me, characters are looking.  From a balancing perspective, you are punishing characters that use wood and leathers as opposed to metal.

Now I have 2 proposals to even things up a bit.

1.  Re design your recipes a bit, so that malar is not tied to so many.  If you simply took out malar bags, and made dire tiger bags or somethings, it would fix our over hunting problem.  Lowering the demand is much more reasonable then making the CNR inaccessible.  If it was just one item....  but like I said, malar is the rough equivalent to adamantium or platinum, besides the making of nice bags.

2.  Take Adamantium, and move it to some crazy part of the game world that no one goes to, so that players that use metal weapons and shields are balanced with the ones that use leather and wood.

Very often I find CNRs on the craft tables.  90% of the time, I think is junk that I pick up and throw in a trash can.  Some times it is useful, like a flask or 2 green stone dusts, or a bow string...  In which case I pocket the item.  When ever it is something valuable, I post a lost and found message.

The reason why I throw away junk is because I suspect that it lags the server.  So does it?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Natural Spell Feat
« on: April 07, 2007, 02:54:11 pm »
There exists a feat in core D&D 3.5 rules, and NWN 2 that reads as follows....

Natural Spell:
Prerequisites: Wis 13, wild shape ability
Benefit: You can complete the verbal and somatic components of spells while in a wild shape.  For example, while in the form of a hawk, you could substitute screeches and gestures with your talons for the normal verbal and somatic components  of a spell.  You can also use any material components or focuses you possess, even if such items are melded within your current form.  This feat does not permit the use of magic items while you are in a form that could not ordinarily use them, and you do not gain the ability to speak while in a wild shape.

I think that this feat would promote better RP for druids.  My reasoning here is in concern with the RP of using Cure potions in animal shape.  The only items that game mechanics allows us to use are potions that target personal only.  When my druid first started using wild shapes, I gave the RP value of using these potions a lot of thought.  I decided that the creators of NWN made it this way for the purpose of game balance.  With out the Natural spell feat, and with out the bad RP (in my opinion) use of potion, then the wild shapes become highly unattractive.

I encourage the staff to consider the option of creating the Natural Spell feat as a Layonara custom feat, and to make target personal potions non accessible.  Please do not just make it so we can't use potions, as like I said that would make wild shapes entirely unattractive.

Roleplaying / Ok, now I'm frustrated
« on: April 05, 2007, 10:37:16 pm »
I hope I don't get flamed for this, as what I am hoping for here is so good dialog and some good advice.  I might get flamed.... it's ok, I can deal with that.

I am frustrated because of a pending CDQ.  From day one, I have RP'd my character Nyeaeana to PrC to Shifter.  I came up with his character concept after doing a lot of research and thinking on various character types.  What I decided was that a Shifter would be the most fun for me both in terms of RP and bashing.

I submitted him for PrC Shifter levels almost a month ago, and was approved pending completion of a CDQ.  Now, I fully realize that this is business as usual here on Layonara.  That this kind of Character Development is necessary to enrich our game world.  To be brutally frank though, I will be pleasantly surprised if any CDQ can develop my character more then what I already put into his CDJ http://www.layonara.com/development-journals-discussion/112726-meditations-nyeaeana.html

Further more, nothing in that journal is just  filler writing that didn't take place in game.  I think that working with what  Lore states about the Shifter PrC, combined with the fact that there are no Shifters in our game world, I have done a good job both RPing my character and writing his CDJ.

"A shifter has no form they call their own. Instead, they clothe themselves in whatever shape is most expedient at the time. While others base their identities largely on their external forms, the shifter actually comes closer to their true self through all of their transformations. Of necessity, their sense of self is based not on their outward form, but on their soul, which is truly the only constant about them. It is the inner strength of that soul that enables them to take on any shape and remain themselves within. Only a Druid can become a shifter."

I don't think I am the only one that is having trouble with this PrC, as 2 other players have requested this PrC and also stated in their requests that they don't feel like they need a CDQ.

So what is the problem?  The problem is that for all RP purposes my character is done gaining levels as a Druid.  Mind you, having level 7 druid spells would probably make him a more powerful character through out the rest of his adventuring life.  So this isn't about power building or anything like that.  This is about the good RP standard that I have for him, that he has as a druid, mastered his Improved animal shapes.  He is level 12, and has 190,000 XP to go.

That is a lot of XP to go, but if I go out hunting and participate in a couple of DM events, I will hit level 13  in a week.  I was approved to take the CDQ on march 13th, and I keep having to turn down invitation to adventure, because my CDQ is not scheduled yet.

Now I want to say, I am not sore at the DM who has agreed to run my CDQ, infact I am gratefull.  I fully understand that it is not his problem.  He is busy, he a lot on his agenda.  It's my problem, and I am not writing this to bash or criticize anyone.  I am writing this to vent my frustrations that I am trying to deal with.

If anyone can give me any advice, or constructive thoughts.  If anyone is or has shared my frustrations here, then please respond.

Fixed Bugs / Calander seems bugged to me
« on: April 04, 2007, 02:45:14 am »
I am looking at a DM event that I feel I should be at, as my character was there for the impromptu.  Talan set his event time in the calender and with all the confusion, I decided to set my forum options to GMT, as opposed to PST which is where I live, just to double check the time mechanism.

In prosscess, I noticed that the callender produced 2 different sign up rosters for the same event.

This is what I see when I look at the event, with options set to PDT which is where I am at.

Sorry for the silly title.

Short quest to wrap up last night's impromptu.

Open to those who were on last night's impromptu and those that get involved ICly.

This quest will not go over two hours (that means it'll probably be 3)

Edit: This quest is moved because I couldn't do it late enough on the day in question to accomodate the players. RSVP'd Yes: 1

Oh and never mind the fact that I might be showing up an hour early to this event as the PDT to GMT is showing an 8 hour difference when I make the double check.  Another hour meditating in hempstead fields won't, or shouldn't, kill my character any way.

Ask A Gamemaster / Advanced wildshape
« on: April 03, 2007, 02:43:11 am »
When you look up Advanced wildshape on lore, it just says "This page is a stub for the Druid feat Advanced Wildshape"

So umm, I have just two questions.

When I hit something in bird shape, they have to make a DC 26 FORT save or they get a glowy circle over thier head.  What is this exactly.

Snake does in fact have venom.  The DC seems to be 20, but what is the poison damage being done?

Quests Ideas and Discussion / NPC quest suggestion
« on: April 01, 2007, 10:41:02 pm »
I think it would be really great if there was an NPC quest that directly involved defending the great cycle or an aspect there of.

There are a lot of druids, rangers, and nature priests in our game world.  While there are many NPC quests related to defending a town, or aiding an individual, there are none that I know of related to defending an aspect of nature.  If the quests could demand the use of nature based skills, like animal empathy, or stealth, or freedom of movement, that would be just incredible.  Kind of like the way some places require rogue skills.

Some basic ideas I can think of:

An orc tribe has made camp, and is cutting down all the trees in a forest area.  This could have a large and elaborate orc camp.

An evil plot has caused all the animals in an area to become sick.

Anything in the dark woods...  like destroying an evil force there that is corrupting the forests.

An evil dark druid is corrupting nature to his own sick and twisted goals....

Thanks for considering these ideas.

Just for Fun / He's not the easter bunny!!
« on: April 01, 2007, 08:03:17 pm »
My character Nyeaeana has been gathering supplies to make healing potions.  He is a member of the farstrider hunt guild, and the crates are so full that he can't put the bodak teeth in one place.  I have taken to the idea of spreading them around the guild house, putting them in various chests, crates and cabinets.  This made me think that he is like the easter bunny, hiding bodak teeth around the house.  Though, easter bunny does not seem to be an appropriate title for the creature that goes around hiding bodak teeth in your house.

Please post your suggestions on what would be the appropriate name of the critter that hides bodak teeth around your house.

Fixed Bugs / Minotaur cave on dragon islands
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:56:12 pm »
I am very sorry that I did not record the name of this cave.  The cave is two or three areas away from the starting location from Vehl.

Problem: The Minotaur shamans are dumb.  What they do is cast a 1st level sanctuary spell, then they proceed to cast buff spells on them selves and try to heal them selves when damaged.  While exploring the cave today, I never saw a shaman do anything offensive.  A 1st level sanctuary is a weak spell, and they just killed too easily.

I recommend adjusting them somehow to be more potent adversaries.

I also would like to stress that to the best of my knowledge this place is NOT like the ruins of madness.  No one that I have ever seen or heard from is going there to farm XP.  The party I went there with today started out asking, "Do we want to go to Dregar or the Dragon Islands."  We went to the Dragon Islands for the good RP reason that no character in the party had gone there before.
