Rumour Has It / Comming soon!
« on: January 29, 2010, 07:03:33 pm »
*Across Mistone and Dregar, posters slowly starts to be pinned up in inns and market place. Prantz being the only noticeable city that the posters doesn't seem to be showing up.*

*Fehriel looks around at those who might already be reading the poster he just put up, and thinks to himself*

I hope those who are able to, will be generous.

General Discussion / Cool mod
« on: January 26, 2010, 10:11:50 pm »
I have found this cool mod that unlocks the camera angles for NWN. You are now able to play as if you are in a fps, and look up at the sky. Or zoom out a bit more than what NWN usually allows you.

I am presently testing it, it's a client side mod that doesn't impact the server. And as far as I know, it doesn't affect performance either.

It needs a bit of adjusting to do when you are in FP mode due to not seeing your body, but then again, you can see the tips of your weapons, so it helps to know which way you are facing.

Pics will follow.

ps if anyone knows how to just drag and drop a picture using fire fox.. please let me know, or even how to use the insert image tool of the advance options. Cause frankly I'm a bit tired of using a third party file hoster.

Just for Fun / Rap?
« on: January 20, 2010, 04:40:13 am »
Well I'll confess, I never liked rap due to the profanity and the image they gave to woman and all. Beside the 4 measure beat repeating itself over and over and over and over an .. er where was I? right. And over.

But I got to say that today while waiting on my mates to come back from their dreaded, drink and smoke break, I stumbled on this.

Guess what?

I like it hehe! ;)

ps, for the more metal people around..... like me. Check out his song called Wake up

Basically, have npc's (either copies or just bards) placed around Layonara, to complete the PC's quests.

I'm sure, their stories are documented somewhere, and it would then enable PC's to complete those quests, even if the PC that they are supposed to find to get the story, isn't on or playing anymore.

Ask A Gamemaster / Animal familiar and companion
« on: December 19, 2009, 08:00:41 pm »
A question that popped into my mind a while back but never got around to ask it.

If a druid, ranger, sorcerer or wizard, exchanges their companion or familiar. Would they then be at the same level as their master are, or would they be started from scratch?

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Automatic server reboot
« on: December 19, 2009, 02:42:21 pm »
I'm not sure if such a thing exists. But could an automatic server reboot be made, so that when the server reaches 100 hours they are automatically rebooted. It would be good if a GM of course had a way to stop it so it doesn't affect their quest preparations and ongoing quests. And also a warning message being sent in the server message chat, warning that the server will reboot in 2 hours, 1 hours, 30 minutes, 15 minutes, 5 minutes, 2 minutes and rebooting.

This I think would help greatly with the lag that people feels when the server passes the 100 hours mark. Like today, a party is being forced to leave the great spire, because the lag is affecting them.

General Discussion / Little tip about the swamps tileset.
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:31:43 pm »
First of, this is something that has worked for me in the past, it may not necessarily work for you.

1- Set the overall graphics quality to fast

2- Set the texture quality to 16 meg. I do not personally recommend setting it to compatibility mode, as it will cause other problems. Trees and the such wont be fully rendered, which may make traveling harder, since you may not see something that blocks your path.

3- make sure, environment shadows are off.

4- uncheck all the boxes in the advanced video options. Use high resolution font, has no bearing.

5- bring all the sliders in the advanced video options to their full left.

6- lastly, this one can be used even if your settings are set to full (like mine are usually). When you are in a area that is usually very jumpy for you, example the crimson eagle's memorial. Pan your camera to a 45 degree angle. What that does, is that the video card doesn't render what is not visible to the camera, so it gives a better frame rate. The closer the camera is to your character the better.

This may not be full proof, but has helped me in the past when I had a much weaker video card. I'm using a nvidia 8600 right now, and I am able to play mostly on full graphics, well when there is not 20 fully buffed out people around me with lots of effects on them :p. Even then, tilting the camera to a 45 degree often helps me.

Hope that helps those that crashes in those swamps tileset, or have problems enjoying the game on full graphics.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / max 6 Characters per player rule
« on: November 16, 2009, 10:49:33 pm »
I know this might be a touchy subject, but if there is no discussion about it, there can't be any change about it. But after speaking with Dorg, he suggested I posted here, if I wanted to make a suggestion.

From what Dorganath has told me, the actual rule was set from the time that the server had many "Actual" players. Here I make reference to one individual making characters, and not accounts it self. As per this rule, one player still has a maximum of six chars, even if he creates six different accounts.

With todays slow down, and we can't really deny that we have seen a drop of "actual" players in the last years (been here for almost 4 now), I was wondering why this rule was still in place.

I understand that at that time it was to prevent the load up of the databases vs the numbers of "actual" players x their number of chars, that were in those time, which made sense. But if we look at todays reality, we have maybe 20 to 30.. 40 max players. It's really nothing compared to what it was in the past.

So since there is less players that there was, is there still a need for this rule? Where, on the other hand, giving the opportunity to the actual player base to test new builds, new stories, could make their experience a bit more enjoyable and help them stay on this server even longer, maybe?

When I say more enjoyable, I mean it in the way that I doubt anyone has a good time making a decision of which of their loving char in which they have put literally hundreds of hours, will they choose to delete.

Suggestion being, let's abolish that rule.

Ask A Gamemaster / Arrows and their stats
« on: October 19, 2009, 02:58:56 am »
Alright here I have a trained bow with iron mahogany and stirge feathers.

the combination of arrows gives those stats:
DMG bonuses: 2d6 negative energy damage vs construct
DMG bonuses: 1d6 negative energy damage

Testing it on the construct in the rough lands I noticed that I didn't get any negative damage over 12. Would the two be staking or just the one that is vs the racial type?

The way I read LORE is this way. When fighting the foe the arrows are destined for. You get 2d6 (mahog) vs type of foe + 1d6 (mahog)for the feather type damage. if you fight something that the arrows were not designed for then you only get the feather type damage of 1d6 (mahog) that applies.

So in my case this is what Ty should be getting, if my assumption is right.

1-8+1 (bow) + 2 piercing damage + 2d6 neg damage (tip/wood/feather) + 1d6 neg damage (feathers/wood) + 1 enchantment bonus (AA level 1) = a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 30 without a critical. In other word, Ty should be getting a minimum of 3 negative damage to a maximum of 18 negative damage pre-critical. Again if my assumption is correct.

If it's only the racial type that applies, when facing that kind of foe, then the lore page about the enhancement should reflect that reality, and say that only the tip damage applies when facing the type of foe.

Rumour Has It / Memorial Desecration
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:50:46 pm »
Through the town of Vehl, half whispers talks of the desecration of Arkolio's memorial. Somehow, under the nose of the guards and people that were gathered to pay their respects, a writing of red ink appeared on the pages of the book.

"Arkolio, the biggest farce of all"

No one that were present at the moment the writing appeared, saw who did the deed, nor how the person did it.

I think it would be nice to be able to name your ox the same way you can name a horse. This way it would be a bit more easier to locate where it is.

*Fehriel travels to the Minstone defense group with his ox in tow and a wheelbarrow that he pushes in front of him. When asked why he is there, he replies that he has things to donate for the defense of the continent. The wheelbarrow and ox are filled with bows, bolts and arrows. He starts to unpack them and give them to the people so they can count what the donation tallies to.

oak Longbows 9

arrows:
20 iron tipped hickory raven tail
720 iron tipped oak raven tail
3900 platinum tipped oak raven tail
5800 platinum tipped oak stirge tail
400 platinum tipped oak falcon tail
200 iron tipped mahogany raven tail
100 bronze tipped mahogany stirge tail
200 bronze tipped mahogany falcon tail
700 bronze tipped mahogany raven tail

bolts:
20 copper tipped hickory falcon tail

total of the donation = 314998

Fehriel watches them as they give him the total, surprised himself at the amount of work he had done.*

I will bring you more shortly, I had plans to also donate some gloves of fury to your troupes, but some browned nose hypocrites people don't know when to not dirty their nose in matters that don't concern them, so I'm sorry if I can't do that part of my plan. But I will keep the bows and arrows coming.

*He then leaves, his ox in tow, the wheelbarrow strapped on its back, now that the ox pack is empty*
