So this isn't an RP world anymore, where RP is the key feature and is intended to pervade all aspects?  It's just Diablo with more classes and a writing exam to play?  I missed the memo.

If death doesn't mean something in character, it's not Layonara anymore.

This is the same debate we always have about the SM.  There are those that want to keep her and those that don't.  They have said they will not be changing it anyways.

But this will never be the Layo we were use to.  Things have changed a lot since the announcement of Layo ending and the MMO. Like Milty said...  There are different type of players.  There are those that like to log in and run for xp and goods. (Which was really hard for me to accept when the rules changed and it was allowed.)   Then ...there are still those that love to rp.  I was one of them.  But I think the key now is trying to keep the few players that are left.  What is so bad about letting them keep the characters they have grown attached to and have fun with them while they can?  Would it be so bad?  If you lost Jennara and everything you have work for with her would you really just start another one?  If so that is wonderful.  But some just don't have it left in them.  To them do we just "Well ...really sorry about your character but ... On well just make a new one or leave."

I know several that would still be playing if they had not lost the characters they had grown so attached to.  The server I play on from time to time now has no perma death system and trust me... People do not want to die there either.  The only difference is I don't have to worry about loosing my character.

From my perspective, reading the thread on one's own WLDQ application is a minor "offense" if it can even be called that, since the thread is accessible. It's what that GM does with the information that's more important and where the potential abuse comes into play.

I agree that isn't really an abuse of power.  My thing is do you really think the other GM's are going to speak honestly about about another GM's WL application? It is just like they wouldn't be honest if they knew the player was going to be viewing the thread.

But I guess that isn't really a big deal.  The point of my post kinda got of track. hehe

I will add that I kinda do see how that may not be the best thing. I was just thinking that it would be a way for them to fix what needed to be corrected.

I had a huge post wrote up and came to my senses and deleted it. ;)

But Row you are awful trusting if you think GM never abuse their GM powers.

Edited to add:  I am not saying all GM's do! I would not had the addiction I had to Layo if it wasn't from the great GM's that kept it fun!

No, I mean their applications for WL. Sorry about that.

I guess to put it bluntly... the benefit would be the player would know how each team member really feels about them as a player in the community without it being sugar coated.  *shrugs*

Like I mentioned.. GM's get to see the post that are made about their applications correct?

*digs up old post*

After the recent posts on denial/try again later WL threads.. it got me thinking... (scary I know ;)) Maybe those that apply and are told to try again later should be shown the threads that are posted discussing their WL  application. Use Shiff...for example... if he was shown the threads on his WL application maybe it would help him make the changes that would get him approved to try for WL. It would answer a lot of questions like the ones that he asked here. GM's that apply can see the discussions on their WL submissons... isn't it only fair that everyone can as well?

I know they are sent a pm kindly explaining the reasonings behind the decisions but are they really told everything? If that is the case then there really shouldn't be an issue about showing them. If not, how can they improve. I'm not saying everyone should see the discussions.. just the one that is applying.  I could be made into a private thread like the WL's are given to discuss/planning of their WLDQ once approved to try for it.

I know if it was me I would want to know.

Miss talking to you!

Not everyone can play an evil pc and have it come off realistic.   I have to say that the rp between Daralith & Amanda was some of the best, most intense that I experienced during my time on Layo.  Both of your characters had an lasting affect and help make Amanda into who she was.

I always enjoyed rping with you..... Even if Malkor would leave me wanting to pull my hair out and I freak out over spiders more now than I ever did.

I wish you nothing but the best in what ever you decide.

Roleplaying / Re: WL frustrated with options offered
« on: July 06, 2010, 02:28:52 am »
I've been watching this thread lately.  A lot of interesting points have been made!  But it is only going to get harder and harder for WL to make a difference or anyone for that matter.  There are more WLs now and fewer active GMs.  WL are more common now, easier to obtain than it was years ago when very few characters even reached level 20.

At the same time.. An online game is just like in RL school, politics, workplace etc. At times, if you want to change things or move up, it all depends on who you are friends with or who you know.   In your work place you know which boss to go to if you want to get something done.   Results depend on who you go to.  Some have more pull than others. Some may just put in more effort.  It also may depend on if you are on their good side *winks*.  It is a fact of life.

Someone hit it on the head with lack of GM activity. There are very few quests on the calendar and a lot of those are CDQs/WLDQs.   There is a list of 20 GM's or so, but some of them you do not see any more.  It may be RL, MMO or just loss of interest.  The fact remains they just are not there.  I haven't been around since the new round DM's and therefore I can't include them in my observations I don't know how active there are.  Sadly there seems to be a trend, after nearly every  DM round old dm's step down, while that is a natural progression it doesn't deal with the problem of Layo lacking active dm's that are out in the world. You can't have changes without DM's there willing to help you and some of the DM's around now are so overworked. No one can do work on the MMO,  work on NwN  and have a real life without  cutting  short on something. At the moment it seems like its NwN is the one getting cut the most, 20 dm's and how many of those are connected to NwN?  I do have to say a BIG kudos for Dezza!  From the calendar it looks like he does the job of many GMs.  Again.. The same with bosses.. some GMs are more approachable  to  ask for help.

Gulnyr was correct when he mentioned DMs do not make calls on the fly like they use to.  Seems many are afraid of making mistakes that have to be 'fixed'.  That is just embarrassing to have to go back and redo something.  There is so much lore and a lot of it is still being rewritten to where no one knows what is current.  How can you make changes when you do not know where things stand now?

It is really hard to change things here. I know it isn't a popular statement but I have to agree with some that SteveMaurer stated.

"So really, you just have to decide whether or not you like this server, and its culture, as it is."

You can continue to stay and try to help make changes and enjoy what is left of NwN or... move on.

Welcome to Layo!  Look forward to seeing you in game.  Feel free to send tells if you have any questions or just want to someone to show you around a little.  Most are very friendly. We won't even hold it against you that you are a friend of Shiff's. ;)

*big wave*  Welcome to Layonara!

Sometimes it can be a bit tough just starting out in a new world. So once you get in game feel free to send tells.  There is normally someone on that would be more than happy to show you the ropes and help you get going.

Careful it can be very addictive! ;)

Our cat LOVES boxes. Any box! Seems like the smaller it is the better he likes them. This is him on Christmas morning. Looks like he was trying to close himself in the box. Heh
