General Discussion / Ideas to spark interest.« on: May 01, 2010, 09:08:14 pm »
I know Dorg said some changes are comming in a recent thread. But I thought I would toss out some other ideas to see if we can spark some interest in the ole place. Some of these have been talked about in other threads, but I wanted to put them into this one as well. Some of these ideas are probably not even possible for the NwN version of Layo... but I wish to bring them up all the same.
1. Double XP week(end) (some % of a boost in XP) I missed the last one of these... how was the reception? 2. Increased loot or coin drops (say for a weekend) 3. Put +4 (and maybe +5) items into the loot table. Perhaps they are already. 4. New items to the loot tables. Id like to even see a sort of cycling loot table if that were possible.. say every so many months what was dropping would change. Kinda like how Disney "locks up" movies for so many years then releases them for sale again. 5. Adding a "Call Home" type ability to all. More than likley a consumable item with some cost to it. 6. Attuneable equipment....this would get those crafters back playing and crafting since that Iron Longsword they made 4 years ago isnt being handed down from player to player anymore. 7. Increase the numbers of characters we can play from 6 to.... ? 8. Adding an "LFG" (Looking For Group) feature to the game, to the forums, etc. A place we can check and see who is wanting to play and not just see that empty server or server of people out of our level range etc. I would like to see others add what they think in the way of other ideas. But take discussion of an individual ideas to its own thread. Lets keep this just for ideas, not so much the discussion of them. My idea is to stay on topic and give the powers that be a clear view of what the player base beleives may help make this world even better!!! Thanks G-452 . NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Fire Domain for Pyrtechites« on: April 24, 2010, 12:54:42 pm »
Fire is mentioned all throughout his dogma & prayers. Fire is his breath and on his breath is the word of ultimate destruction. His very symbol embodies the destructive force of fire.

General Discussion / The End of a Warrior« on: April 05, 2010, 12:38:12 pm »
*Ty tombs home with Trenton's body and quickly brings it to the Hospital desperately seeking aid...but there is none to give*
A warrior's death was fitting, his life in the service of the mighty Vorax. He lived to fight evil and he lived to teach others to be strong. Hopefully his memory will be lasting, his contribution to the safety of good citizens across Layonara remembered. His victory cry "Feel the Axe of Vorax!" should be written on his gravestone and his fellow warriors in arms should be honored to continue the good work, to fight the good fight. //I've had a blast playing Trenton and I feel lucky to have had the chance to play him as long as I did. Thanks again to the team for instituting the Graceful Plea system that allowed him to come back from his first permanent death. Thank you to all those who enjoyed Trenton's company and who made it so much fun for me to play with you. Your roleplay is superb and you all make Layonara the exceptional experience that it is. CNR Suggestions/Discussion / Gem/Wand/Staff of Dispelling« on: April 04, 2010, 08:15:32 pm »
I've thought about this for a while, and finally decided that it was worth posting as a suggestion - new infusing recipes for gems, wands, and staves to do with Dispel Magic.
Reasoning: These would be useful tools (in all three incarnations) on quests and against enemy spellcasters. Often enough (on quests I've been on and quests I've run, at least) Dispel Magic is employed as a panacea against nasty enchantments. Moreover, because Dispel Magic includes six base classes among those who can cast it, it would be a widely accessible recipe in the infusing ladder. With that said, the proposed items (see attachment):
The nwscript code for insertion into the recipe database is provided here, though some changes will have to be made (and strings filled in) for Layo's code: Code: [Select] //string sKeyToRecipe; // Probably already defined. Comments, concerns, support or opposition, all welcome. The following users thanked this post: Lareth

Layonara Server / Update coming soon! New files required!« on: April 01, 2010, 11:09:40 pm »
I can't say exactly when (as it all depends on what I decide to do about a couple of things) but sometime soon, there will be an update coming which will require everyone to download updated TLK and HAK files.
I've put them up on the server for download, so everyone can get a jump on the update. These new files will not interfere with anyone playing before the update, so you are welcome to download them and expand them into the proper folders: Updated "control" HAK: http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layo_controlv3r9.rar Updated TLK file: http://nwn.layonara.com/downloads/files/layonara_v23.rar Happy Downloading! Layonara Server / Masterjack's Layonara team application« on: March 08, 2010, 11:36:58 am »
This is being posted as per post # 15 from this thread. http://forums.layonara.com/layonara-server/261122-layonara-team-applications-now-open.html
1. What position are you applying for? Gamemaster 2. How long have you been a member of Layonara? Since April 2006 3. Why do you want to be a GM or LORE team member in Layonara? I love Layo and what everyone has done to it to make it so interesting. My current work position has given me a lot of free time away from my family. So why not help out my Layo family when I can. Secondly I find myself wanting to bring more of Layo to life then just my character. I think being a GM is the best way for me to do that. Thirdly, I miss making adventures. My son and I have been working together to keep a campaign going for his friends for about two years now. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly my son went off to college. 4. What characteristics make you well suited to the position of GM/LORE team member? I'm patient, tolerant and work well with others. I also have an over active imagination. 5. Please read through the GM/LORE team duties and qualifications, if you have not already. In light of these obligations, what other responsibilities (either Layonara-related or real life) could affect your Team performance and how would you balance these? I work for the Canadian military, that alone is a big responsibility. I can be called away at a moments notice to go any where to do almost anything. My current posting makes that extremely unlikely thought not impossible. Usually I get plenty of notice before I have to go somewhere so I should be able work around it or take a small sabbatical. The second responsibility would be my family. I'm currently posted away from them till at least summer 2011, so that should not be a problem. Also my children are in college. 6. Are you a member of any other Layonara teams? If so and you are accepted as a GM/LORE team member, how do you plan to balance your new role and your current role? No 7. Please describe any DM/GM experience, including any NWN GMing experience. Please note that GMing experience is not required for an application to be considered. I have GM'd / DM'd plenty of games since the early 80s. To be honest most of them pale in comparison to Layo standards. Most of my experience comes from helping my son create an on going campaign for his friends for the last 2 years. I have not DM'd using NWN. 8. Are you applying as a part time or full time quest GM? (Please note the GMing time commitments as specified under GM duties.) For the first year I can to do it full time but would have to go to part time after that. So I'll just apply for part time and do more then expected. 9. I'll PM my quest summary with in a day or so. The following users thanked this post: Lareth

General Discussion / Stepping Down from GM'ing« on: February 27, 2010, 12:45:15 am »
Well folks, it has come that time for me to step down from being a GM. Thanks to L and the team for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the team.
I have been on this server for over five years now and GM'ed for the last year or so of it between deployments. It was definitely interesting to see how the server operated behind the curtain. I appreciate all the fun that I had while serving the server. I enjoyed my time helping players, running impromptu quests (my favorite by far), and bringing the world alive by possessing NPCs (especially animals), changing spawns, and keeping players on their toes. There are truly fantastic RP'ers in our community and it is constant. There is almost always someone RPing in some form or fashion all of the time. There are different styles and different levels, thank you for the education from that side of the field. Thanks again, twidget The following users thanked this post: Lareth

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / NPC story tellers, representing the EPIC PC Story quests.« on: January 06, 2010, 09:56:18 pm »
Basically, have npc's (either copies or just bards) placed around Layonara, to complete the PC's quests.
I'm sure, their stories are documented somewhere, and it would then enable PC's to complete those quests, even if the PC that they are supposed to find to get the story, isn't on or playing anymore. The following users thanked this post: Lareth

Version 3.21.4 is online!
** Characters with the Cloak of the Bat can ask a GM directly in-game for a replacement with the Nighteyes Cloak. Please do not clog the Grievance/Request process with these. This is an item-for-item swap. Thanks go to orth, Script Wrecked and Acacea for their contributions, as well as Alatriel for her remodel work. Please note that this does require an updated HAK file, which can be downloaded here. Enjoy! The following users thanked this post: Lareth

General Discussion / Just another player.« on: August 26, 2009, 11:22:23 am »
Wasn't going to make a public post about this because I didn't think it was really that necessary, but I guess I should make people aware that I have stepped down from the GM team and will no longer be running any quests etc.
I will still be here as a player, as much as I can spare the time for, but sadly it's best I step down as I can't dedicate the time I used to be able to writing/running quests, it has been a lot of fun and a big thanks to the team for letting me a part of it. NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Misted Village: Change Persistant Loot to Chest« on: August 24, 2009, 07:06:01 pm »
I've opened this thing again and again and never once have I found anything in it. Seeing as how it's depicted as a huge heaping pile of gold, I suggest that either A) there be some gold drop respawning in the pile to represent the gold that's piled right there in front of you, or B) remove the gold pile and put a chest there, which could physically be empty. It's kind of frustrating to see an empty pile of gold.
