The Dragon Storm Campaign / Re: Donations to the war effort
« on: February 24, 2011, 10:03:05 pm »
A white robed elf walks a ox laden down with armors to the requisitions office for the armies for Trelania and Brelin. "I um, hope these can be of use in the fight against the cult... please see to it that they go where they are, um, most needed"

//47 items, mostly leather armors, that I am too lazy to write out like others are doing, donated via Mistone Defense. Total donation value 244,157 true.

Razeriem,

Given your stated approach to handling bids, I hesitate to engage in a bidding war before learning what you want and whether you will accept our bids in the first place. I would be willing to barter high-end tailored goods (emerald-studded belts, mithril clothing, etc.), or I can continue to negotiate with true, but some indication of what you would like would be ideal before I continue to bid.

Razeriem,

I have never seen such a tome sold, and thus I cannot say what a fair price might be, but I will open the bidding at 20,000, if you will accept that.

It is not possible for us to equip warriors with these exact items and see what impact it would have, but we will take these donations into consideration when determining the outcome of battles.

//I'm just curious, how closely does the DM team look at donated items? Is the overall donation value the most important thing, or is the quality or number of items more important? Particularly because things like healing potions have such a low lens value compared to their utility, I don't donate them as a matter of course... (or say, how metal helmets are all but worthless, but I'd rather like to be wearing one in battle ;)) but if the team is looking at the individual items, my characters might donate more of that kind of item. Similarly, I tend to donate few, high-value armors, but if the team is looking at things realistically, one person with even really good armor isn't going to make as big a difference as the dozens of mediocre armor that would be the value equivalent. Obviously, this makes a difference in how one donates.

Agree on the turning your graphic settings down - specifically, shiny water and creature shadows give people a lot of problems.

I've had good luck with Samy's Camera, and I would happily recommend them to anyone looking at photo gear.. Every once in a while you can get a good used/refurbished model from the B&H listings, but with a newer camera that's a long shot. I'd stay away from most of the discount photo stores... I've heard too many horror stories about bait & switches plus exorbitant "restocking fees."

Most of the songs posted have been pretty good...
This, I truly believe, is the worst Christmas tune ever composed:
Gothic Christmas

Look at the bar above your post. Click on the little pull-down for "new players," then select "downloads." There should be all the files you need there.

I would agree with Gulnyr that the real question is what is "proper" ... that said, words like "ain't" are not slang, nor are they part of "standard written English" (which is often what people mean when they say "proper English") but are rather colloquialisms.

LORE Bugs / Re: Görmungard and umlaut

It's been discussed in a number of threads/irc conversations that I can recall: special characters cause various problems with LORE - I'm sure you can have him renamed to remove the umlaut through the disputes forum just like any other renaming.

If your character asks around, someone might know a group who were curious enough to find out about it. *hint hint*

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Regarding Poison
« on: November 04, 2010, 04:18:05 pm »
I think you're thinking of it the wrong way - absolutely, anything can be used for evil torture-y effects... and absolutely poisons can be used to good effect.... BUT, the poisons that are mechanically craftable in game are the probably the ways that require some moral flexibility to use.

If you want to RP using poisons to concoct antidotes, I don't see anything wrong with that... its just more the province of the heal skill or alchemy craft than poisoncrafting. Just think of the poisoncrafting skill as a small subset of everything that one can do using poisons.

Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Partial yet permanent possession
« on: October 26, 2010, 12:54:07 pm »
Okay, two very distinct issues that this idea presents: First, I have no idea whether Layo pit creatures can possess others. Regardless, that is likely an Ed question, but I have my suspicions that it would not be allowed for a PC without being introduced on a quest or something like that.

The second issue is the idea of having two very distinct personas possibly creating alignment issues. "Insatiable desire to kill and destroy" is pretty much the definition of CE, and would not be allowed as part of a character for obvious reasons. We have had characters with a similar sort of split personality without possession (e.g. mental illness), but they required a great deal of careful definition from the player, in order to deal with any potential issues, and anything that would cause alignment violations would not be allowed. See here for an example - please note the effort the player put in, and the careful delineations of the personalities.
