Rumour Has It / Request out of Ft. Llast
« on: November 09, 2010, 09:15:42 am »
The temple of Toran has requested that some of their field agents return to Ft. Llast for an assignment.  Runners have been dispatched to the last known locations of some of their paladins and priests, bearing the Ankh of Toran proudly in colors of blue, gold, and silver.

Rumour Has It / Talk with Toranites
« on: November 02, 2010, 01:46:30 pm »
Word has it Lady Daniella Stormhaven is doing a series of seminars on the Conducts of Virtue.  From the sounds of it, anyone can go.  It's been said that she hopes to shed some light on the misconceptions of Toran's will, as well as the misconception of the way Toranites are perceived by others, and sometimes, even how they perceive themselves.

General Discussion / Military Training Exercise: Rules of Engagement- OOC
« on: October 05, 2010, 12:41:49 pm »
Military Training Exercise:  Rules of Engagement- OOC

Absolutely ZERO OOC chatter.  Keep everything that you speak aloud in character.  This means no //, no net-speak, no smiley faces, etc.  If you need to tell someone something ooc, use a tell.

No running without a RP reason.  This means, if you are travelling- you're walking.  People just can't run from one side of the globe to the other.  Remember that there are hundreds of miles between some areas.  Keep that in mind for your rp.  Trips take days and weeks, not minutes and hours.  You may not be tired, but your character would be.

No party chat.  This is important because when people use party chat they rely on the mechanic to relay their words and actions across areas, split areas, etc.  If you want to speak to someone, you should be near them, not hundreds of feet away.  Also, if you are emoting something, go ahead and keep emoting it even if you don't think anyone is watching or listening.  Do what your character would do.  You never know when that will be noticed and appreciated by someone you don't see.

No visible rolls. This also means no visible emoting of rolls.  If you need to make a roll, set the rolls to silent, and make sure that you use the invisible roll command with a self tell "=c wis check; =c roll d100"  Then based on that roll you are able to EMOTE how well you pulled something off or control your OWN character's reactions.  You may not under any circumstances try to force others' rp through your own mechanics.  There are no levels in this event.  There are more skilled characters, and there are more renowned characters and more respected characters.  Forget about levels.  If you roll a 56 on a bluff check but you can't emote or rp that bluff out to be convincing.... The other players will not buy it.  Keep that in mind.

If you want to share something with someone else regarding what is going on, please try to keep all ic information ic.  This means NO SPOILERS.

I hope that everyone has fun during this event.  Challenge yourself to become your character.  Try to emote what you're doing instead of just pushing buttons.  If you cast, make something up on how you think it would look while you do it.  If you chant, pray, pick your nose... we want to know!  If you are a devout follower of a god, rp that faith.  If you aren't exactly sure what you're doing, wing it.  You never know when someone will appreciate what you've done.

Some people may say "well, how is this going to be policed?"  The point of this challenge is not so that we have to have policing going on to make sure that people abide by the rules.  This is a challenge that we will simply have to rely on the honor system that people will know who follows the rules and who doesn't.  I'm hoping that everyone does and that it will be a lot of fun for all involved.  At the end of the event, I'll take nominations on the forum from each group for the person they think did the best job in their party on fully immersive rp.  I'll set up a poll with those nominations from each group, and people can vote to see who deserved the acknowledgement.  Prizes will be awarded for the MVP of each team.  Thank you for playing, enjoy the challenge!

//I'll have Daniella parked in Huangjin for a while.  If you would like to discuss things relating to any new information on the Green Dragon Cult, please send me a pm and we'll find a time to discuss what there is to share.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / A meeting called for military force
« on: June 30, 2010, 11:52:16 am »
Daniella Stormhaven sends out missives to the temples of Vorax and Rofirein as well as to leaders within the Toran church and heads of various military forces and nations across Layonara to meet and discuss an offensive push against the lands overtaken by the Dragonstealers.

As part of the missive she states:

"We cannot sit by and attempt merely to survive, it is only ensuring that they have the time and resources to destroy us all.  We retook Hurix, we can do this again.  It's our turn to make a move."

//If a GM wishes to be present for this please let me know, otherwise, I will try to pick a time that accommodates as many timezones as possible and put an event on the player calendar.  I think we've put up with the Cult long enough, don't you?

Character Library / Jimmy
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:45:35 pm »
Name:  Jimmy
Race:  Human
Age:  18
Alignment:  CN
Deity:  None
Class:  Rogue

Jimmy crouched low under the shadow of the crates piled up high in the alley.  He could almost reach it.  The man's purse was so close.  Just one snip.  Couldn't possibly pass up something so tempting as that big fat purse.  Anyone should know if they're going to walk around with that much coin in plain sight was really just asking someone to take it.  He was just doing what the man wanted.  Doing him a favor really.  That many coins on the old man's back would just make him ache in places that wasn't right.  Jimmy was younger, he could definitely carry this man's burden for him.  Alright, just a couple more inches... step back... more...more... there!  His knife quickly cut the strings and the purse was free!

Unfortunately, Jimmy forgot to hold onto the purse while he cut the strings and it fell to the ground with a loud CRASH! spilling the coins everywhere.  The young man stepped back quickly into the shadows again accidentally tripping over a can and falling back into the crates, toppling them everywhere.

"Stop!  Thief!" the older man yelled, pointing directly at Jimmy as he scrambled up and over the boxes and made a dash down the alley.  "That boy tried to steal my money!  Catch him!" the calls sounded out behind him.

Before long, Jimmy could hear the sound of armored clanging steps behind him as he ducked quickly down another alleyway of the crowded side streets of Ft. Vehl.  He held his breath until he heard the loud footsteps run past, then finally exhaled with a sigh of relief.  Well that was closer than intended...

Jimmy quickly backed up, keeping an eye on where the town guards might return when suddenly he heard a low and vicious growl.  Jimmy looked up at the dark sky above him and whispered a silent prayer to anyone that would listen, then hesitantly glanced behind him.  The very large guard dog with the sharp teeth and drool really did not seem at all pleased that Jimmy was currently standing on his dinner.

"So sorry... good doggie..." Jimmy said as he stepped back off the dog's dinner and edged away from it.  The dog snapped and Jimmy ran.  Darting down another alley, he stopped to catch his breath.  Whew!  That was definitely not what was intended!  Well, hey... at least he wasn't being thrown in jail!  Jimmy smiled to himself.  No worse off than he was at the start of the night.  Nope!  Maybe this night would turn out just fine after all.  Smiling, Jimmy turned the corner...

And bumped right into a Rofie.

The knight looked down on the small statured human and squinted.  "Hey... aren't you..."

But Jimmy didn't wait for him to finish his thought.  He turned and ran as fast as he could.  Thank the gods he knew these streets as well as he did!

"Stop!  Stop that boy!" the calls rang out once more.  "I think he went that way!"  Once again, the sounds of pursuit echoed behind him.  Jimmy looked behind him to see if anyone was watching.

And tripped over a cat.

Trying to catch his balance, so as not to fall face down, Jimmy managed to twist sideways...

And bumped into a man who was talking to a woman.  The woman shrieked loudly as she realized that the large fish-gutting knife she was holding now speared through the man's chest.  Jimmy's eyes went wide as he realized the man was now dead because of him.  "Um... sorry... " he mumbled inadequately, and darted off again as the sounds of the armored men with really big swords... seriously, their swords were way too big... came running towards the sound of the screams.

Jimmy ran out into town, nearing the market place.  This was too open.  He looked around trying to find a place to hide.

"There he is! Catch him!" the guards called from behind him.  The guards on the other side of town heard their alarm and started towards him as well.  He was trapped.  He backed up.

"Please oh please oh please... somebody get me out of this!  If you get me out of this I promise I'll do better.  I won't steal or cheat or pick locks... just get me out of this!" he mumbled to himself, backing further away from the guards.

Suddenly, Jimmy bumped into something.  He looked up, dreading what it was he could have possibly bumped into this time.  The bindstone.  "Oh gods... I'm dead," he said quietly, and the darkness claimed him and he passed out at the foot of the stone, his hand resting against its surface.

The town guards stopped as they saw Jimmy lying in a heap at the foot of the bindstone.  "Ha!  There's justice for ya!  The bindstone's got him now, boys.  Guess our job's done," they laughed as they went back to their posts.  "The rats will have 'im off soon enough.  Leave 'im lie."

An hour later Jimmy opened his eyes.  He hopped up quickly and ducked down behind a building.  "I'm alive?  Really?"  He looked at his hands, turning them over, then feeling his face.  He was still alive!

"Whew... that was a close one!"  He tilts his head and looks up at the stars, saluting once.  "Thanks!  Good thing I never said I wouldn't lie!"

General Discussion / CDQ vs. GCDQ
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:28:08 am »
Not entirely sure where to put this, but I was wondering if we could make it so that the GCDQ and the CDQ were on different timers?  Basically, that each person on a GCDQ did not have to give up one of their own CDQ slots in order to attend the GCDQ?  With as difficult as it is to get a CDQ run in the first place, I think that by telling members of a group that it will take out their own ability to run something individual stifles group activity, not to mention that by those rules there may be people within the groups that cannot even go on the GCDQ because they are not elligible for a CDQ at that time, or simply may not be willing to go.

My suggestion would be that instead of having them all on the same timer, to make GCDQ's only available every 4 months, and that they must have a specific purpose in mind (not just- we're going to go bashing so we want a gm to help us out).  But this would leave it open and available for any individual member of the group to continue with whatever CDQ schedule they had in mind.

This also would not apply to joint CDQ's where two or more individuals attempt something personal.

Ideas?

Could we change the Dragon Statue to something more stone-looking instead of green?  If gold is possible it would be best, but having a green dragon in there... just feels wrong.

General Discussion / Request for GM Quests
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:28:07 pm »
Hey everybody,
I have a small request.  While I appreciate all the fantastic quotes and poems that have been used lately for the quests, would it be possible to go back to putting in a small description of what the quest will be about, at least a starting scenario?  This way, we can determine which of our characters would be most suitable to join the quest, which one would have desire to go, be most useful, etc. other than simply by level or location.  By all means, keep the sayings and quotes and poems because I think they add a lot and if nothing else expose us to some great lines that we might not have heard before.  But (and maybe I'm alone in this, maybe not) I would really appreciate it if there was always at least a little blurb that would tell me why it was that my character headed that direction in the first place, or which character it was that had her interest sparked.

Thanks so much, and sorry to bother.

*Toran thinks "Hmm.... that Ilsare is totally hot man..."*

Toran:  Hey Ilsare, I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go out for a burger or something later?  You know... just the two of us?

Ilsare:  Um... can't you see I'm a little busy painting?  And besides, I'm like, with my boyfriend Aeridin already...  You're cute and all, and really sweet, but, like, seriously... you're a human.  I'm an elf.  It would just, like, never work, ya know?  But, kiss kiss!  Love ya, you're still soooooo totally sweet for asking! *blows him a kiss and a wink*

*Toran's jaw drops as he watches her walk away, and Vorax walks up beside him*

Toran:  I can't believe I got turned down...  Vorax, did you hear that?  She told me she wouldn't go out with me, I'm completely crushed.

Vorax:  Grrrrrr.... the lass will regret she ever hurt ye me friend!  *he hefts his battle axe up on his shoulder*

Toran:  Calm down, I don't want you to go after her...

Vorax:  Well, foine.  But ken I at leas' goan rough up her boyfriend there?

Toran:  Nah, I've met the guy.  He's alright.  I just... *sighs*  Just keep her away from me from now on.  I don't want a constant reminder of how she broke my heart...

Ilsare:  Doo bee doo bee doo... that was so sweet of Toran, asking me out like that.  Humans are, like, so totally cute.  If he was just an elf I'd totally go out with him.
