-Satari, Novlar 14, 1435-

It has been a few years since my latest entry into this journal but not much happened in the past two years to be honest. After my latest entry I had to take some distance from active adventuring as I was getting tired of all the fighting a little. I started my training with Lydia and Arngrim to defend myself in dangerous situations and I have to agree that I step into a lot of dangerous situations lately. As I needed a break I simply travelled on safe routes from one city to another on Mistone. It was a nice life as well but something was really missing.

A few months ago I headed into the Silkwood Forest again for further explorations and I got caught in a fight with spiders which surprised me. I was able to defeat all of them but one of the spiders hit me in my thigh and I had to lie down for quite some time. When things are still very exhausting it tingles a little. I think it is not fully cured out already and some of its venom is still inside of me. Maybe I should seek a priest out about it or let a healer look over the already healed wound.

A few days ago I took a stroll through the Silkwood Forest again and took a rest at the campfire outside of Hlint where I bumped into Trouble again who was quite happy to see me again. We talked about things that were going on in the time we did not see each other and he asked me about what I have been doing in the meantime and I could not tell him much as not much happened in the meantime anyways. He was quite surprised by my skills with the rapier though. I gave him a little show after an imaginary opponent. I dodged imaginary blows, parried and launched attacks into the air where the imaginary opponent was supposed to be. After the little show we headed out like we did in our old days and explored some places I have not been before. He took me to the mountains around Fort Vehl where we encountered some giants. Giants are really huge and I did not battle them before so the first fight was very thrilling as I did not know how tough they really were. Trouble and I did just fine though. While they attacked him I sneaked my way behind them and tried to find their weak spot. However it was hard to hit them though but we managed to defeat them and I learned a lot about my new opponents and certainly improved myself during these battles. As it was pretty cold and we were just to Krashin before we decided to head back though into warmer regions and that was Hlint.

While we were on our way from Fort Llast to Hlint we met a man called Bear, an elven woman called Raven and a toranite knight and a little later Daniella as well, another Toranite.
Raven asked us for some help with the Oil of the Vukas, Juanita must have lost somewhere in the mountains. Together the five of us headed into the mountains. It was very thrilling as there were not only ogres, but giants and giants with two heads. I made some research and found out that they are called ettins. On our task to find the oil Bear bailed out of a sudden because he said he had something else to do. He did not say what but I cannot use one on a task who bails out of a sudden so we were better off without him anyways. Shortly after Bear disappeared an elf showed up in the heat of battle and almost got killed. I mean it was pretty silly and headless. He was invisible and no one of us knew about him being there, charged the ogres ahead of us at the bridge and almost got killed. I told him to be more careful and stand a bit back as it seemed the group already knew him. Needless to say he got killed as we were attacked by the next group of ogres and giants. I have to admit their spellcasters are pretty tough and sneaky and their spells hurt. Without the elf, I already forgot his name anyway, we made our way up the mountains and eventually found the oil. In the final fight we unfortunately lost Daniella who was fighting very brave but unfortunately fell. I was right in time to save Trouble but not fast enough to save Daniella as well. Maybe I had to work out the tactic a little better and others should have listened to my commands more precisely. It seems like Lance, the Toranite, and I had like the same idea but our views differed slightly. Even though he was pretty strong and experienced, it doesn’t make him our tactician. I know he’s been to the mountains more than once already and knows his ways but then I learned from Arngrim and knew exactly the strengths and weaknesses of our group. I did a good job. I am really sorry for Daniella’s death, it shouldn’t have occurred at all.

As we could not linger around for much longer we decided to head back to Fort Llast again. We were almost out of the mountains as a group of ogres ambushed us and almost wiped us out. Well, the ogres themselves were not the real problem but they had a spellcaster with them. I made my way through the ogres to the spellcaster, tumbling over the battlefield, avoiding all of their attacks; I gave them no opportunity to attack me at all. On my way to the caster I managed to kill two ogres and then I faced the big blue ogre. He casted some sort of frost sphere and then vanished from our sight. He then appeared again just to cast another spell at us and I took the opportunity to attack him from behind. The sphere really hit us hard and it took us some effort to stand after that spell. As I attacked the caster he focused his next spell on me and I died immediately before I was able to launch a final strike at him. I fell. Everything worked as planned but no one of us knew they possessed such power. I made my way back to where I fell and prayed for my soul. Then we finally made our way back to Fort Llast where Daniella was already waiting for us and we moved on to return the oil to Juanita who was quite happy about it.

Trouble and I went into the inn in Hlint to eat and drink and I was pretty exhausted anyways. My feet were killing me after like a week full of adventures. I don’t know, but I think Trouble is hiding something from me, I just don’t know what.

However, I learned a lot from our trip into the mountains. Always be prepared for everything and know your comrades good enough to know what they can handle or not. Then you need to work out a tactic which covers everyone. That part worked fine so far but we should have taken more time to observe our surrounding on our way down. With proper observation the ambush wouldn’t have been so bad but they really surprised us. Sneaky ogres. I only wish Arngrim or Lydia were with us. They would have known what to do or how to prepare. Maybe I should visit them again one day, as I should visit Celes again. I bet she’s doing just fine at the Wolfswood Ranger Corps.

But for now I should spend more time with my training so Arngrim and Lydia would be proud with me. I want to master my rapier like Lydia did a long time ago. I want to dodge every attack and launch precise attacks against my opponents and foresee their actions so it is easier for me to dodge or to evade their attacks and use every opportunity to attack them with my rapier. Arngrim and especially Lydia taught me the basics and showed me the way I am currently walking. I took the best from both mentors and combined it for me but then I want to be like Lydia. My strength comes from grace and not from brute force. I already learned a lot of Lydia and improved myself but I am still far from such a graceful way to battle her opponents. I want to be like her and I am doing my very best to become a duelist as well.

But for now I should enjoy the evening here in Port Hempstead and enjoy the life as it is without any battles and death.

-Satari, Oclar 28, 1433-

The last few days have been very interesting and eventful. While I was on my way from Krandor to Port Hempstead I bumped into Trouble and his mother in Fort Wayfare. After I talked a bit with them Miss Tegan left for her business and Trouble offered me to be my guide again. Of course I agreed to it and we started to venture for several days along Mistone and Alindor. First of all I still had a job to do on Mistone. Some old hag in the swamps asked me to help her out with some knuckles. Luckily I still had some on me I planned to give to a priest so he could make some potions for me. However, I handed them over to her and she was very thankful for my help. After we got out all alive of the swamps Trouble suggested to head over to Alindor. I was quite glad to travel to Alindor again, my home. Well of course Alindor is just another continent but it is still the continent where I grew up and hail from.

On Alindor we helped a farmer with his scarecrows. And if I say scarecrows then I really want to point out that they are actually scary! Well Trouble had to fight them almost all alone as I was usually busy with screaming and running around and ended up being surrounded by four more scarecrows. I would have never made it without Trouble’s help but in the end we made it. I did not want to die again and not by scarecrows. That’s for sure. The farmer was quite glad for our help and we wished him the best for his family before we moved on.

Trouble showed me some sort of grove within the Wolfswood Forest. I did not know about that grove yet, even though I spent some time in the Wolfswood Forest around the Wolfswood Ranger Corps together with Celes. It was a very lovely place and I hope to travel there again one time. Trouble knows a lot of lovely places so it is always interesting to travel around with him.

Close to the Wolfswood Forest we helped another farmer with his lost cow. We agreed on helping him and well, we found his cow or better say what was left from it. It seemed like a griffon got hungry and ate a whole cow. In the remains of the fat and overweighed griffons I only found the collar of his lost cow. The only thing we were able to do for him was at least to hand him the collar back.
Fighting the griffon was very thrilling as it was very strong. While Trouble shifted into a cat again and directly attacked it, I sneaked up behind it and waited for a good opportunity to strike it down. The easiest way to strike it was when it flew closer to the ground in order to attack Trouble. With such teamwork we managed to defeat the griffon with just a few scratches.
Trouble and I ventured a bit more around Alindor before we eventually decided to take the ride back to Mistone. Back on Mistone he made be curious about Krashin, an isle up in the north of Layonara where it always freezes. We sailed there and it was really cold over there, more than I was used to.

Trouble showed me an interesting cavern made out of ice which was infested with kobolds, naturally. Actually they were no threat for us if you don’t fight against their shamans that is. Their magic missiles really hurt and almost killed us more than once on Krashin. However the journey to Krashin was very interesting and I learned a lot from defeating our opponents. While Trouble tried to catch their attention I sneaked behind them again and used their weak spots to harm them. With time I improved this technique and am now able to harm them even more. Due to their masses we had to be very careful and always had to watch our backs. Even if I don’t really give them the opportunity to attack me when I pass them for example, they can still catch me flatfooted.  Being flatfooted I cannot really dodge their blows anymore and I don’t wear any heavy armor. With a plate I could simply stand there flatfooted as it would not make much difference as you can hardly move in such heavy plates anyways. But if they catch me flatfooted I don’t have any time to react and parry their blows and this is of course very deadly for me. However I learned from my experience up in Krashin and figured out how to still benefit from my graceful movements, even when I am caught flatfooted.

After a warming campfire at the bottom of the cave we fought our way back to the surface and finally headed back to Mistone where Trouble showed me the desert close to Port Hempstead. Well and now I am dead tired and I can already feel my sore muscles everywhere. I should better get some rest now.

-Wedlar, Oclar 11, 1433-

The past few days have not really been that successful I am afraid. The only thing I managed way dying few days ago. While I was sitting around again in Fort Wayfare at the waterfall I bumped into Trouble again. Trouble told me that he found an interesting place with rather interesting creatures. So we headed down the road in Fort Wayfare und found ourselves in the Forest of Moans where we had some hostile contact with Satyrs. I had to learn that they were very territorial and did not like adventurers passing by. The trip itself went fine but on our way out again we bumped into a rather large group of satyrs. Even though I am trained in the ways of battle I was not able to defeat this last group, they were too much for us to handle. After a long time Trouble fell conscious less to the ground and I was bleeding all over the place as well already. It took them quite some effort to defeat me. The one I was facing I could handle, just the one in my back was too much for me.

Death is something horrible even though I found myself all alive again at the bindstone in Hlint, though very weakened from my death. I only know for sure that I don’t want to die again, it is a pain. However I found Trouble back at the forest and together we took out the remaining satyrs so I was able to pray at the place where I died so I could fully recover from my recent death.

After the unwanted experience we still decided to explore Mistone a bit more. He showed me some nice places and I was able to train my skills along the way as well as not every road is really safe. As we travelled through the woods we got attacked by two griffons and Trouble did not manage to calm them. But during the battles along the way I got more confident with our tactics and our skills. I am getting better and better with my new rapier. I know Lydia would be proud of me already. A lot of time will pass till I will be as good as her, if I ever reach her that is.

For now I should get some sleep and reflect the past few days. Even though my death was horrible I learned something from it: There’s always someone better than you and without training you’ll never be able to get better and more confident in facing your opponent.

-Tunar, Seplar 24, 1433-

A few weeks have passed since I ventured the last time. It was nice to take a little break and reflect the last months here on Mistone. I saw a lot of places and faces during my time around these parts of Layonara. I can only say I am proud of myself and how I managed the rather rough places I explored with my new friends. I really grew more and more in this time. As I started to explore Mistone I was hardly able to wield my weapons or to avoid blows. But with every battle I fight and every experience I gain I get more and more confident with the ways of battle.

Today I oddly jumped into Trouble again while I was just sitting at the waterfall in Fort Wayfare. He’s hard to miss with the white monkey on his shoulder, always twitching his ear. Well he hardly knew my name anymore but at least he still knew my face. However he offered to show me a little around. I happily agreed and we headed towards Hlint.

On our way to Hlint I managed to cut some goblin ears off some goblins I needed as a proof for lieutenant Astork in Hlint. Trouble helped me with the goblins and to my surprise he shifted into a panther while we were fighting the goblins. I somehow felt that he was very bound to nature but I never imagined it was that strong. From tales I heard that druids are able to shift into some forms of animals. I asked him if he was a druid but he said he wouldn’t call himself a druid. More like an apprentice or so, still learning the ways of a druid. I can understand him. I wouldn’t call myself a warrior either, as I am still learning the ways of battle and trying to find my very own way of battle.

However we ventured into the swamps outside of Hlint where we fought some lizardmen and some other creatures. They looked like flying balls of light and I gathered that they are called will-o-wisp or something similar. After we finally got out of these stinky swamps again we headed into the Whitethorn Forest where Trouble showed me some interesting places. We headed to the Grove of Katia and he showed me some treants as well. I have to admit they were very impressive, walking trees after all. On our way back to Hlint a few Kenkus tried to attack us as we crossed their way but we managed to defeat them easily. Well not that easily as they used to vanish from eyesight.

On our trip through the world I managed to improve my ways of battle. I am already skilled in the ways how to dodge under blows of my enemy’s blades und be very mobile on my feet. But fighting the goblins and Kenkus I had to focus more and more on avoiding their blows when I want to sneak behind them and use their weak spots to harm them from behind. The problem is that my opponents mostly use the opportunity to attack me when I try to run behind them. During my training I now managed not to give them any more opportunities to have an attack of opportunity on me. I also learned how to evade traps.

Trouble and I agreed to meet again for further explorations. I have to agree that I somehow like him being around him and love heading out for adventuring with him. I will see what future brings. Who knows, maybe we’ll head to the Wolfswood Forest together.

-Wedlar, Junar 18, 1433-

The past few days were quite interesting I have to admit. A lot of things happened in the past few days, more than I thought. I spent the past few days mainly with my training. I only have a slow process but though it is steady. It is quite amazing to see how others use different tactics than I do. There are many ways of battle and I am just walking one of them. Some prefer the more brute ways but I prefer the more agile way.

I ventured a bit with Eslar again and he showed me some towns along the road on Mistone. I have been to Fort Llast, Krandor and Hlint. From the citizens in Hlint I gathered that Hlint once was a town filled with adventurers but most of them are gone now. I have to admit it looks a little abandoned without them. It is quiet for a small town. On our way I asked some citizens if they might have some work for me. In Fort Llast I helped a lieutenant with refilling his chests with weapons.

The last day I ventured with Aesthir and a comrade into the Silkwood Forest. It was an interesting trip but spiders are very dangerous due to their poison. However I hardly survived it and learned from it. While they were focused on Aesthir I attacked them from behind, finding their weak spots.

And now I eventually got my new rapier made. It is made of iron and the balance is far better than if it was made out of copper like my old one. So right now I am busy with getting used to the new blade. But for now I have had enough training and going to get some rest.

-Wedlar, Mai 4, 1433-

After I recovered in the Inn in Fort Vehl from those scratches I got down in the crypt I moved out again to see if anyone has a little job for me to do. Maybe Friar had another job for me regarding undead but naturally he did not have had any job for me. So while I was standing around in front of the graveyard I saw this woman leaning against the crypt. She was carrying a rather huge walking stick for her size. From her build she was clearly elven. However the woman was looking for some assistance up in the Gloom Woods. Of course I agreed in aiding her and together we headed north towards the Gloom Woods. The name of the woman was Aryanna and is a druid in service of the Longstrider. Aryanna has a rather bossy attitude but I like it. I don’t know but it somehow suits her. Just she could stop prodding me with her staff.

However, we eventually reached that cursed forest and found some strong zombies in there. Somehow I was not able to harm them with my copper rapier. Aryanna told me that these are kind of resistant against such materials and I should go for an iron one next time or something equal made out of wood. We managed to defeat all of them and I saw some even stranger creatures. They looked like a failed experiment when someone tried to build a creature out of many other creatures.
We then met another creature among some skeletons. I don’t know what kind of creature that was but from a camp within the Gloom Woods I gathered that it was called a Zamin. It was a very tough fight and I hardly survived it with Aryanna’s help. It seemed like I wasn’t fast enough yet. It easily dodged most of my attacks and most times it was too fast for me so I was unable to avoid these blows. I focused every single thought on my opponent and closely examined the motions of my opponent as it moved, attacked or dodged. This way I was able to parry most of its attacks and start a counter attack when it left its defense. In the camp I got rewarded for the defeat of the Zamin.

On our way we were attacked by those kobolds of the camp outside Port Hempstead. The previous fights really improved my skills with the rapier. While we were fighting them I tried to do what Lydia taught me in my training. If you want to end a fight quick, make sure you surprise them, flank or attack it from behind and aim for their weak spots. It took me some effort but I think that now I know how to use this technique, given I surprise them and open the battle before they even realize what is going on.

As I finally found myself back in Port Hempstead, Aryanna had to leave after we left the camp again, I wrote a letter to Miss Pandorn as now I think I can make use of an iron rapier. After all this training I should finally manage to make use of its sharper blade and better handling. Unfortunately she did not have any blade in stock so I have to wait for a few days. I don’t mind waiting for the blade though as I still need to continue my other training and of course to make some more friends in these parts of the world.

I can’t wait for what the next days will bring.

-Tunar, Apreal 3, 1433-

The past days were rather interesting. As I got up again I took a tour around Port Hempstead again as I lost some of my baggage due to the rough see somewhere between Alindor and Mistone. So as I arrived I had only my old leathers and nothing else to dress with. While my studded leathers keep me save and rather dry I needed something for towns or other activities. I just don’t want to take a drink in my armor even though it seems the citizens in these parts are used to adventurers in any way.

So while I was looking for a tailor to get a dress made I met Ferrit Pandorn, a tailor and merchant. She showed me some interesting equipment I might be interested in like a new light armor or a new blade. But I think I should live with what I already have on me for now. The blade I am looking forward to is made of iron and definitely better balanced than my copper one. Lacking the coin and training I told her that I will contact her when it is about time for me. First of all I still have to master my training with my rapier made of copper. Right now I could not really take advantage of the better balance and handling.

After eventually I got my dress made I went out for a walk into the woods right outside Port Hempstead. On my way through the woods I met Eslar again. Yes, I eventually remembered his name. Eslar was kind enough to show me the Stormcrest Crossroads on the way to Fort Vehl and Vehl itself, too. Fort Vehl differs from Port Hempstead. While you can see that Port Hempstead is wealthy and noble, Fort Vehl is more your average town. It is dirty and some if their citizens or guards are not really good looking or friendly. But then I found some work for me to do at the local graveyard. It had to do with returning some essence of a lesser darksoul or so. Not that I really knew what a darksoul was. So together with Eslar I explored a rather huge crypt and fought my way through skeletons and zombies. But the next time I’ll go there I will surely grab a flail or so. It is hard for me to put the skeletons back to their rest with a weapon like the rapier.

The fight against the darksoul was scary I tell you. I was just glad that I did not run away screaming from it and that Eslar conjured some flames upon my blade so I was able to hurt that bandaged thing. It reminded me of a mummy. However the fight lasted like half an hour and it was very exhausting to fight constantly for such a long time. I had to take care that it did not get the chance to hit me and then try to find its weak spots. Oddly I did not find any weak spots and that made it even harder. But the long fight had its benefits. I am now able to land better placed hits on my opponents which cause them more pain and suffer. I think I really specialized myself on the rapier now. Trying it with my short sword I still cannot manage it somehow. I think this comes from focusing all my training on the rapier.

It was a long day and we made it out of the crypt alive and I got rewarded for my help which I was glad about as I still need to save some Trues for a new blade and some other equipment I am looking forward to. Eslar told me that there might be some more jobs waiting for me here in Vehl. SO for tomorrow I will take a look around Fort Vehl and ask citizens or other people whether they have a job for me or know who might be able to have some work for me.

*After some rather exhausting days Phyress slumps down into her bed in the Scamp’s Mug and starts writing a new entry in her journal.*

-Threas, Mar 26, 1433-

Now these were some long days, really. Just after I bought some general supplies for my ventures here on Mistone I ran into a rather charming, but old man. I am bad with names. A moment ago I still knew his name. When I meet him again I am sure to remember his name, all I need is just to see his face again. However he was kind enough to show me around town a little and helped me to track Martha and Trent down. Martha was around the Merchant District as the bartender already told me; I just did not ask him where that district was located. I think it was the first and last time I headed down in any sewers as they really stink. Our journey down went just fine even though I had to take a few hits by a few slimy things I saw among other creatures. I did the job though and got rewarded by Martha afterwards.

Trent had another job for me. It had something to do with retrieving a magical stick from a tribe of kobolds right outside Port Hempstead. On our way to the camp I saw a rather big creature. It was bigger than a human but I don’t know it looked somehow odd, like an ogre or so. Strange one. I only know it scared me a little.
After chatting with another new adventurer, his name was Michael if I remember correctly, we headed into their camp. It was thrilling and interesting and better than fighting stinky little rats in any way. I found a stick on one kobold with wings which looked rather odd. Of course I know kobolds are somehow related to dragons but still, it makes me giggle. My guide checked the staff over and felt that it was magical of some sorts. He’s a sorcerer from what I saw and what he told me.
After we made our way out again we handed the stick over to Captain Trent again and he rewarded me with a bag and some Trues as well. It was already past midnight as we passed the stick over to Trent so we decided it was best to get some rest first as it were some long and exhausting days.

But after all I learned a lot in the last few days. The weapon I bought at the local merchants here in Port Hempstead was a rapier like Lydia used one, just not as balanced as her one was. Not to mention that this one is just made out of copper but it will do for now. Not like I could take advantage of a better balanced blade yet. However during the last few days I grew stronger in using the rapier and found myself using more or less more agile weapons like the rapier or short sword but I still prefer the rapier and took my focus especially on it.
During the battles we fought I had to dodge and avoid many blows while I fought their masses or when I had to run over the battlefield. I really improved myself and I am more mobile in fights now. Of course I had good mentors with Lydia and Arngrim back on Alindor but now it was me who improved the basics I already learned by them and I am glad I had them as my mentors.
Well and I fought with two weapons at the same time as well. It is hard to coordinate two blades at the same time but I managed somehow. But I think I am some kind of ambidextrous so it is easier for me, especially with my weak hand. And I bet it helps me coordinating by shield as well to parry blows.

But now I am curious about what tomorrow brings...

-Tunar, Mar 24, 1433-

It was a rough sea on my ride from Mariners Hold over to Port Hempstead on the continent of Mistone. It was my first time on such a big ship and across the ocean but I really enjoyed it. It was refreshing, stormy, thrilling, interesting and lovely at the same time, even though it was raining the whole time and not to mention the rough, stormy sea. I really wish Lydia was with me on the ride over to Port Hempstead. I know my father mentioned that town a few times when he talked with my mother about trade and always mentioned the wealthy city of Hempstead.

However, the ship landed at the docks around midnight and the cargo and passengers moved over to steady ground again which I was quite glad about. My first journey on a ship might not have been the best, judging the sea but it was still interesting and a new experience. And I did not get seasick like other passengers on the boat. Of course I was lost when I tried to explore the city mid in night. Among the citizens I saw some adventurers as well but they seemed rather busy with something and gave me some quick directions as I asked for them.

I then decided to seek out the inn and take a drink. The bartender was kind enough to serve me one apple-juice on the house. He’s a nice guy even though the inn did not seem to be very clean at all but I am used worse inns anyways. However, he gave me some directions like where to find what in town. I then asked if he had a job for me to do but he denied. But he told me to seek out Captain Trent in town as he might have a job for me. Same as for Martha.

Anyways, I should get some rest and prepare myself before heading out and get some Trues into my pockets.

These occur in all similar rooms as displayed in the screenshots, so in 4 rooms (first three rooms on the left, first room on the right while entering). The non-usable areas occur in the same place in all 4 rooms. I tried marking the areas green in the screenshots. The first issue appears close to the door on the left hand side or the room and is shaped more or less like a rectangular. The other issue is located at the end of the room (please not the odd break in the wall and on the floor, as if a different tile was used).I don't know if 124 Leringard is the only house with these issues. Also, as pictured in the screenshots I am currently using an override for the interior design. This error also occurs while using a vanilla version.Location: 124 LeringardVerified:Reproducable: Yes, feel free walking these rooms for yourself.

Development Journals and Discussion / Journal of Kira Éibhleann

Tunar, Augra 10, 1559At some point all of us are going to die. Some may have a short life, some are lucky and live a long and fulfilling life. Personally, in my case, I hope for the latter. Will I be remembered? If, how will I be remembered? These are questions unknown to me and I won’t be able to fathom them once I am gone, finding my final rest. This journal will give you, my dear reader, insights into my very life and feelings. You may be surprised by what you find written down on the following pages. Rumours may have a different version of my life and my being, my deeds and my legacy. But I assure you, now that you hold this very journal into your hands and are eager to get to know my true self, you will discover the truth behind my legacy. You will see the world how I saw it at the time. Some of these stories will tell a tale of love and sadness, or victory and defeat. With each story and legacy there is a very beginning. My story, the beginning of this journal will, naturally, start with my birth. I know, it may bore you, my dear reader, but be assured that these pages may prove valuable in understanding my very self. If you don’t want to be bothered with how I grew up in the Sun Kingdom on Alindor then I may suggest you stop reading already or at least skip the next few paragraphs...I, Kira Éibhleann, was the thirdborn child to Edwin and Hazel Éibhleann. My mother gave birth to the oldest of us siblings, my brother Alan, six years prior to my birth. My sister, Sarah, was born two years before I was born. I am glad I was born into this family. My father, Edwin, was born and raised in Lan’s Port himself. As the firstborn of his family he took into his father’s footsteps as a local weapon merchant. While my grandfather, Geoffrey, was still managing the family’s businesses, my father fell in love with a lovely woman, his future wife and my mother to be, Hazel Brooke. From the stories I heard about their early days, it took my father quite some effort to win her over. But in the end he succeeded, obviously. I would not be able to writing down these notes otherwise.Together with my siblings and my parents I grew up in Lan’s Port, capital of the Sun Kingdom in the northern parts of Alindor. Even though my family was not noble born or wealthy we lived a good life. As my father used to say, other merchants may make a fortune selling exotic spices, but as a weapon merchant you will always sell enough wares to make a living. With the constant threat of Milara in the eastern parts of Alindor this is not really surprising at all.But if I had a good childhood in Lan’s Port with my family and friends, why did I dare leaving this all behind me, picking up the work of a mercenary and living a dangerous, but surely fulfilling live? Well, my dear reader, as I already mentioned I am the thirdborn child. In my family it is a tradition that the firstborn son takes over the family’s business. That would be my brother. The firstborn daughter is meant to join the clergy. In case of a second son he will join the ranks of the army. The secondborn daughter, however, is meant to marry into another family to strengthen the ties to another merchant of Lan’s Port. It may not surprise you, but that was not the life that I wanted. I was not meant to be just the wife of yet another merchant. Not in Lan’s Port, not anywhere in the Sun Kingdom and certainly not anywhere on Layonara. As you are reading this journal right now you are probably aware of the fact that I certainly did not agree with this decision being made for me. Now that you are familiar with my family’s background I will introduce you to my very own story…As far as I can remember I have always been a very adventurous child, much to the distress of my dear parents. Instead of playing with puppets and throwing little tea parties with stuffed animals like my older sister usually did, I liked to play with my brother’s wooden swords and axes. We were acting out the stories we heard about heroes who went after Sinthar Bloodstone or mighty dragon slayers. Sometimes even Sarah was part of our little settings. She was the princess captured by an evil dragon or overlord and we then had to rescue her, making our way through its endless hordes of fluffy stuffed toys. Those stories still fill my heard with joy. The early years of an innocent childhood. My parents soon saw that getting stuffed animals or puppets on my birthdays were not a good idea any longer. I usually neglected them and only played with them when Alan and I were on one of our mission yet again. Our opponent? The fierce stuffed badger of legendary doom! On my tenth birthday I got my very first toy weapon, a wooden short sword. It was like the best birthday I had so far. If I wanted to live and act out heroic tales, I always had to rely on the wooden swords of my brother. My father told me that if I behaved and would also play with my sister from time to time, I would get another wooden weapon every birthday from now on. He also promised me that I may help him in his little weapon store from time to time. My mother was not very fond of this idea at first, but knew I would sneak into his shop at some point anyway. This way my father could at least watch over me.My dear father had another surprise for my twelfth birthday. I was allowed to accompany him to a business trip to Nel. I was very excited about this. Sure, my brother and I explored the various districts of Lan’s Port already and even its surroundings, but I had never been that far from home, yet. The trip was a whole new experience to me. Well, I was a child and wanted to see the world, but to my father and brother the trip was pretty much business as usual. Alan turned 18 already and was working with my father already. As Edwin was growing older already he usually let my brother manage the business relations outside of Nel. But he knew my curiosity took me to places I should not wander on my own and thus he could watch over me while my brother was engaged in striking good business deals. Being watched over all the time was not to my liking. I wanted to explore Nel on my own, just like I wanted to explore Lan’s Port on my own. My only chance to explore Nel on my own was during night time when my father and brother were asleep. And that’s what I did on the second night in Nel. I grabbed my wooden blade and shield and climbed out of the window. Well, I was not much of a climber back then and I would lie if I tell you I successfully climbed down the whole way from the second story. I climbed down like half of the way before it was decided that I would rather take the fast way down. I am just glad I fell into a shrubbery and not the rock solid pavement. So I muttered, got up to my feet and pretended this did not happen, all while rubbing my behind. But here I was, all alone and on my own, ready to set out for my very first adventure in Nel. I sneaked around buildings, pretending to avoid evil monsters which were hiding in dark corners. Then I saw it. The ultimate evil. The foe which was behind it. Eyes glowing in the dark, sharp fangs, black fur and hissing at me. Even though it was rather small, it sure was furious and about to take my life away. Uttering the fiercest battlecry I could think of I engaged and tried to attack this monster. It dodged my blow and ran away. I just stood there, still in a battle-ready stance, and looked after the black cat which was escaping. Let me assure you, my dear reader, I had no intentions in smiting a poor innocent kitten. With a heavy sigh I turned around and was about to continue my exploration. Just as I turned around I jumped into something or something. I looked up. In the low lights I saw two persons grinning down at me. I jumped back one step, startled. Who were these men? They certainly did not look friendly at all. They looked more like thugs and I sure did not like the way they were grinning at me. I was shocked. What should I do? Run? Scream for help? In the games I played with Aland and Sarah I was always the hero, a shiny knight, helping those in need and danger. This was different though. This was not a game. This was reality. And I was not a shiny knight with a keen weapon, I was but a little girl. A little girl with a wooden blade, but a little girl nonetheless. My first instinct was to run, and so I did. I turned around and ran. Just that I ran into two other thugs. I was trapped. Startled I backed away a little, trying to scream. I tried to, but I could not. Just as I was about to scream I felt a hand wrapping around me from behind, muffling my screaming. Truly desperate at this points I tried kicking and whirling my fists around, but to no avail. The thugs exchanged a few words. Apparently they were kidnapping me for a sweet ransom. Blindfolded and tied up they took me with them. They did not get far, though.“Well well well, who do we have here?” – That was a woman’s voice!“I am not sure, Tyrith, but it seems like we ran into some thugs.” – A voice of another woman.“Apparently, Lea, and they are about to deliver a package, don’t you think? A package which will certainly get them some True upon delivery.” mused the first woman who apparently was called Tyrith. The other woman, Lea, chuckled, “Now this is an interesting situation. Are you aware, dear thugs, of the bounty there is on your little group? And you were pretty much caught in the act right now. Don’t you think?”“Watch yer foul mouths, women! Ye ain’t gonna take what we claimed. Now bugger off or…” mouthed on the thugs who kidnapped me.“… or what?” Lea interrupted, giggling, “Make us regret we stood up to your pathetic little group of thuggy thugs? Do you really think we will let this slide away?”“I have warned ye, ye silly women. Ye’ll pray ye never bothered us.” exclaimed one of the thugs, probably their leader. “Ye really think two women could face us and leave unscathed?”I heard the women sigh simultaneously. Then I heard various blades being drawn. I was put on the ground and the sound of battle arose. Weapon’s clashed and I heard curses being thrown. I cried. Soon the battle would be over and those thugs would continue kidnapping me. There was nothing I could do at that moment. I was helpless, fragile. Sooner than I expected the sounds of battle faded away and I heard steps closing in. I was scared.“Oh come on, Lea, these thugs looked more promising than they really were! Just one strike and one of them was down already!” exclaimed one of the women.Lea chuckled, “Well, you’re a big girl after all, knowing how to fight. Those were just some thugs. They certainly did not enlist to an army at some point just like you did.”They were joking around for a little longer, but eventually were addressing me. They told not to be afraid while they gently untied me and removed the blindfold. I fell into Lea’s arms, sobbing and crying. She held me close, whispering comforting words. It took me a while to come back to my senses and wit. While Lea had been comforting me, Tyrith securely tied up those thugs, making sure they were alive. You would expect your saviours being knights in shiny armour, but this was reality. Not one of my games or heroic stories I heard in my childhood. Tyrith sure was a tall woman, easily sporting up to 6’4”, had an athletic build and wore a black, shiny plate made out of platinum. As for her weaponry, well, there was for one a great sword and a scimitar as a sidearm. Lea on the other hand was a rather small woman armed with two short swords while wearing a light leather armour. Lea comforted me and explained that they meant no harm to me. Seeing my miserable state Lea offered escorting me back home. In the meantime, Tyrith would guard the thugs and wait for Lea’s return with the guards. After all there was still a bounty to collect for them.On our way back to the inn where we stayed for the business trip I asked Lea about all their adventures. I did not want to think about what happened a few moments ago and heroic stories always used to calm me down and distract me a little. Apparently Lea and Tyrith had been travelling companions for quite a while already and have seen quite a good portion of Layonara already. As we arrived at the inn I asked her one last request. I asked her if she were to drop my off to my room by the window. You see, I did not get any bruises and had no visible marks of the ties on my wrists and ankles. My father sure would have been furious and my mother would not have allowed me to ever venture out on my own again, even less accompany my father or brother on any business trips until my coming of age. Lea refused at first, but eventually sighed and climbed up to the window with me. Unlike me she did not fall down on her way back, but casually jumped out of the window, catching the force of the jump down with a graceful roll. She turned around, winked at me and darted off into the night. After that fateful night I knew how fragile I really was. I was no knight in shiny armour, rescuing maidens and princesses from evil overlords or dragons. I realized that I, the girl who always played the hero of the stories, was actually the one needing the help of others. I was kidnapped, just like these princesses in tales. Sure, I may have been only twelve years old at that time. But if you are confronted with the harsh reality of the world outside, outside of the safety of your home, you sure mature up a little bit. Now here’s the important thing. There are one things you may do in such a situation. You try to hide from the harsh reality or you confront your fear and toughen up. You, my dear reader, certainly know what I did in this situation. I chose the latter. I did not want to be the princess, waiting for the hero, her knight in shining armour, to come to her rescue. I wanted to be the one who is the one who rescues the princess, or rather prince in my case. I know, a twelve years old girl telling you she will toughen up sounds rather cute and you would probably don’t take her serious at all. You would just pat her head and nod, thinking it is but a silly phase and she will grow out of it, eventually. The tricky thing was though, how do you change your attitude ever so little so no one will suspect anything was caused by some drastic event? The change had to come in a slow but steady stream. Mind you, I was but twelve years old. I tried assisting in my father’s weapon shop as many times as I was allowed to. My father and brother were delighted I took great interest in the wares we sold and how to settle deals and the like. In the following few months I was able to learn the one or other thing about weapons. I also helped restocking the weapon racks. There was no way I could even lift those great swords or axes, but given my strength and height I was at least able to help with smaller weapons like daggers, short swords and the like. Restocking them was not my only duty. At some point I was trusted with polishing the weapons. With the passing of months Alan got more and more consumed by his responsibilities at our father’s shop. But from time to time we managed to take out our wooden blades and were play fighting like in his younger days. I asked him if we could focus more on the duels itself. At some point you just don’t want to fight against fluffy toys any longer. Those were the days, but sometimes life wants you to take a path you did not expect. As time passed I grew stronger. Puberty hit me as well and my body was going through some changes. Some for the better, some for the worse. Well, my older sister usually teased me about silly things. In her eyes I was not acting like a lady. Excuse me, my dear sister, but not everyone is as well behaved and situated as you are. She sure was charming and attracted quite some boys. Me on the other hand, well, I sure attracted quite some trouble back in the days. To this day I still don’t know if I attract trouble or if trouble attracts me. I got more bruises in one month than she will ever get in her entire life, but that’s a different story. What I expected of life was becoming a strong and independent woman who could watch over herself. My parents however saw my future in the hands of the son of another local businessman. I got to know about it shortly after my 15th birthday. I was shocked and trembling when I heard about these ‘good news’. I tried to protest, but to no avail. A date was arranged a few weeks later. My mother and sister were helping me into a lovely looking dress, getting me ready for my first date.I don’t want to go into too much detail here, but the date was a disaster. He sure was looking nice and he sure has been working on his physical appearance, but his character, well, his character did not really match up to his appearance. For whatever reason he seemed to be interested in me. I, however, was not attracted to him. I was only allowed to talk when granted and had to smile the whole time. That was so not me. But as I had promised my parents to behave and at least give him a chance I had to play along and smile at him like the whole time. He walked me back home and we said our good-byes. Just as I intended to turn around and gently close the door behind me, he leaned forward, trying to kiss me on my cheek. I did the only natural thing every other girl would have done in this awkward situation: I made it even more awkward. Stunned as I was I quickly slammed the door shut. I heard his nose meet the wooden door and shortly after some cursing. Still heavily breathing I stormed into my room. I guess I don’t have to tell you I was grounded for like weeks after my little stunt. From that day on some of our parents were always around, watching if I behaved on our weekly dates. This went on for some months and I rather resigned to my new situation. If meeting Damien, that was the boy’s name, were always supervised, I could not be mean to him. After all I somehow had to try breaking the feelings he held for me. Those were at no point mutual and after the little incident with the door his nose was slightly crooked. Whenever we were together I got reminded of my little stunt and misery. There was not an easy solution to my misery, though. I tried talking to my parents several times, but they were very traditional about their traditions. Those were passed down from generation to generation after all and are not easily to be overthrown. One day, as I was polishing weapons in the back room in the shop, I heard familiar voices. Alan was just praising his wares to some women. I peeked through the door. By their looks and equipment, they were mercenaries. And their voices and appearances felt familiar to me. I knew these two! These two were the ones who rescued me back in Nel! Lea and Tyrith. It took me some time to recognise them. After all I only met them in one fateful night some years ago and mind you, it was night when I met them. What should I do? Should I just walk up to them and introduce myself again? My brother would sure ask questions if I did so. No, I decided to follow them when they eventually leave the shop again. After a while the two women agreed on a deal my brother suggested and left the shop. Luckily the shop had a back door and I followed them for a while. Apparently they still had several errands to run and I followed them around Lan’s Port for quite some time. The sun was already setting in the west as they eventually left the town southwards. Close to the town there was a camp. This was no ordinary camp at all. I knew camps from business trips within the Sun Kingdom. This was not a camp of merchants, but mercenaries. Tyrith and Lea joined a group of like four other mercenaries. Two men and two more women. I wanted to approach them right now, asking them about any of their adventures they had certainly been part of in the past few years. Alas, I was not able to approach them. How would I introduce myself? Would they even approach me? And even worse, I completely forgot another date with Damien. So I decided to hurry back to town for now. It seemed like they were making camp for some more days here. I would just approach them tomorrow.Ever since I was to start dating Damien my life turned rather dull and boring. I had to neglect some of my physical training as it was my duty now to act and behave like a grown up woman. Seeing Lea and Tyrith again brought back old feelings, both good and bad. Sure, those thugs back them were just after a nice little ransom which my parents would have paid, but the women who freed me showed me how strong and independent women may be and I wanted to be like them. I wanted to live my own life, not live after the traditions of our family. The next morning approached and I was very nervous. How would they react? Well, there was only one way to find out. On my way towards the camp I bought some groceries. Some roasted salmon, bread and wine. A few years ago I would have never thought about such a thing. Guess I really grew into my role of what my family expected of me. Lea and Tyrith did not remember me at first. It had been some years after all and they certainly met several other folks during their travels. And I was no longer a little child. After I introduced myself and explained how we got to know each other they recalled our meeting in that fateful night. I spent the whole day with these mercenaries. Lea and Tyrith introduced me to their comrades: Lydia, an archer from Katherian, Dwennon, a scout from Hlint, Fiona, a sorceress from North Fort and Duncan, a bard from Port Hempstead. This band of mercenaries certainly visited many places all over Layonara already. Unfortunately, Tyrith’s scimitar shattered during their latest confrontation and had to order a new blade. From what I understood she was surrounded by a mob of bandits who were after her for personal reasons. I knew I had to ask them an important question and after sharing some wine I took all my courage and asked them if they could teach me the ways of a mercenary while they were still waiting for the delivery of the blade. My heart was racing and my face probably flushed brightly. Tyrith arched a brow and sighed softly.“Being a mercenary takes more than just a few days, Kira. It is a dedication and it is hard work. You have seen with your own eyes what happens if you are unprepared. It takes years of hard work and as you grow older you will still gain more insights. Just remember those thugs. They had weapons. A weapon does not make you a mercenary, or a fighter for that matter. “Kira looked down, “I know, Tyrith. I was helpful back in that night and I am still helpless to this very day. I don’t want to be helpless. I don’t want to be pushed or ordered around by my family.”“Kira,” Lea joined the conversation. “We all follow orders. We have to abide laws and the public order. The better you are the more responsibilities you have. A mercenary is not a cutthroat and does as he pleases. Some may think about it that way, but to be blunt, it is hard and tough work.”“Furthermore,” Tyrith continued, “If you travel around in a group you have to abide its inner structure and cannot do as you please. Everyone in our group has their places and follows orders of the others. We function as a family, Kira. Take Dwennon for example. He is the scout of our group. We depend on him and he also depends on us. We rely on his eyes and he knows we will be there in case he somehow screws up and gets caught.”“Oh come on, Tyrith!” Dwennon made a face and pouted, “That happened like what? One or two times and I was only spotted because you stumbled against a tree!”The whole group bursted into laughter. I just sat there, not really getting what they were laughing about.“I see your point, Tyrith. But what would you do in my position? I mean, you all seem like you love what you are doing. And then there is me, bound to a life I do not want to live!” I exclaimed.Tyrith and Lea exchanged looks and after moments Lea spoke up, “Let me put it this way, Kira. You do not seem all too fragile and if I compare the younger you with the current you then let me tell you, you really blossomed up. You’ve grown into a fine young woman. You seem strong and willing. But let me assure you, you have to stand to your decision and may have to face consequences. Tyrith and I think you may have got what it takes to be strong and independent. We will make camp for two more weeks here and we will start training you by tomorrow. Not melee combat, no. We’re far from being there. But we will test your physique and will. We will only do it under one condition, though.”I looked straight into her eyes, “Name it then, please.”Lea nodded slowly and continued, “After these two weeks we will judge your progress and form. You may not like our judgment, but it will be an honest one and you will accept it. If you don’t, well then you are but a spoiled little selfish child. And if we were to say you have got what it takes to follow our path then you have to come clean with your parents.”I nodded slowly, gazing into the roaring flames of the campfire, “Thank you.”I got a chance to prove myself. I was filled with joy and sadness at the same time. I had a chance to finally change my life. I did not know whether it was for the good or bad at that time. But I knew their judgment would change my life in either way and no matter the outcome, I would accept my fate. The following two weeks were tough. And if I mean tough it really was tough. All six of them tested me on different aspects. I had sore muscles even where I did not know I had muscles! Long distance running, sprints and strength exercises were only some part of training. Every night I fell exhausted into my bed. Sometimes I did not even manage to slip into my nightgown. After the two weeks my whole body was aching during exercises I almost passed out from exhaustion the one or other time. All the hard work paid off in the end, though. Their judgment was overly positive. They saw my strong dedication, even though I looked pretty miserable after these two weeks of excessive physical exercises. I proved that I was able to follow orders and not putting my personal wellbeing above others. There was one thing still left to do for me: I had to tell my parents about my decisions and my dreams and somehow come clean with them.I will spare you the very details about the discussion with my parents, my dear reader. Thinking about it still fills me with sadness, even to this very day. It was a heated discussion and words were said that were not forgivable, by both sides, mind you. In the end an agreement was made. I was allowed to leave my family and Damien behind, but I was to be disinherited as I disgraced the traditions of our family. Also I had to send a letter home every month and let them know I was still alive. And this is how I escaped the life that had been planned for me by my family’s traditions. I was free, but at a cost. I thought about what Lea and Tyrith told me back at the campfire. Everything comes at a cost and this was mine.I said my good-byes. Before I left Alan handed me my old wooden blade. I had almost forgotten about it. My eyes were filled with tears and so were my brother’s eyes as we hugged each other farewell. I knew I would miss my family and the innocent days of my childhood, long lost. But I had to deal with the consequences of my decision. And so I left and joined this fine band of mercenaries, my second family. At first I was shocked about how the life of a mercenary really is. I did not expect it to be like what I experienced. You don’t travel from city to city, slaying mighty overlords or dragons. I guess I was still a bit naïve with my 16 years. And then there were chores. Chores everywhere. Washing clothes, preparing meals, you get the idea. Mercenaries are no shiny knights who have their entourage. We had to do all of our own. And well, since I was their newest member, and to some extend their ‘squire’, it was my duty to organize their daily chores. I was used to comfort and my warm and cosy bed. The two weeks of training certainly did not prepare me for this, but I had to adapt to my newfound life and freedom. But let me assure you that I grew more responsible during the following months and years. The upside was that I got to train with them. But before they started my training I had to choose a personal mentor. A tough decision. I was young and wanted to learn everything there was to learn from everyone in the group. Naïve, I know. After testing their different disciplines, I eventually chose Tyrith as my mentor. Her blade work still impresses me to this very day.Tyrith was proficient with every weapon I knew from my father’s weapon shop. She knew of their advances and disadvantages. That’s why she always carried around at least three blades. A dagger, a medium sized blade and a great sword. A heavy sword may cause fatal wounds, but you cannot really make use of it in smaller areas. That’s where a dagger comes in handy. It might be less lethal, but can be very effective. Her favourite weapon, however, was a scimitar. As I asked her why she chose it over dozens of other weapons she told me that I will get to know about it on my own sooner or later. But before we even got to my melee weapon training I first had to undergo physical labour. It was not as intense as I experienced it in those two weeks, but that might have been because I slowly got the hang of it. In my spare time I also practices various aspects of my apprenticeship with Lea. I was still impressed by her jumping out of my window back in Nel. She also taught me how to pick locks or set traps. Lea told me that while I was way stronger than I was nimble, these skills might prove useful one day.The weapon training with Tyrith was tough. She expected a lot of me, but I guess she did it in my best interests. In order to rely on and trust each other in a fight you have to know about their strengths and weaknesses. I was trained in heavy and light armour, practicing with heavy and light weapons. To become a good mercenary and fighter I had to be versatile. According to Tyrith you have to train with a lot of weapons, but everyone has a favourite weapon. In Lea’s case those were short swords, in Tyrith’s case the scimitar. I soon got to know why Tyrith favoured the scimitar over all other blade. It may not be as devastating as a great sword, but it had a good balance and grip to it. You can strike fast and strong and the blade it light enough to change directions during a strike as well.On my 17th birthday I ventured with Lea and Tyrith to the closest town. They said they had a special surprise for me waiting there. Once we arrived in Mariner’s Hold we were heading to one of the local weapon smiths. I was told that I was to pick one blade for myself. My first own blade! Joy filled me as I tested several blades. Finally, I made my decision. I tightened my grip on the hilt of the weapon and proudly held it up. It was but a scimitar. Smiling I hugged both of them and thanked them like a thousand times for this present. This was the best birthday I had in years! In the following months Tyrith and I focused mainly on my training with the scimitar. I got to know that even though many fighters have a favourite weapon, only few really focus on mastering their chosen weapon. That was what she wanted me to focus on. She explained to me that a favoured weapon is not just some steel, but the very extension of my sword arm, it has to become a part of me. At first I did not really get what she meant by those words, but then I had seen her fight. She truly mastered her chosen weapon. Lea was very skilled with her short swords as well, but she just did not reach a mastery of her weapons like Tyrith did.Even though I mainly focused on tactics in heated situations with Tyrith, I got to know some tricks of Lea as well. Lea was usually fighting in leather armours or reinforced clothing, whatever was most suited for her missions. As she could not rely on heavy armour as Tyrith and I did, she relied on her agility, dodging and evading blows. Not only when it came to melee ranged combat, but also when I accidentally ran into one of her traps. It was a rather unpleasant training. I was weighted down by my donned heavy plate, but if you get used to it, it certainly is doable. While Tyrith’s attacks focused mostly on strength, Lea’s attacks were more cunning and sneaking, always striking at your flanks und unprotected areas. Even though I was usually wearing my plate, or at least some chain mail, she always found my weak spots. I wanted to incorporate her skilful attacks to the fighting style Tyrith had been practicing with me. It took me quite some time and bruises to do so, but I eventually managed to adapt something from both of them and combined it into my very own style. I still wanted to master the scimitar, I still wanted the scimitar become the very own extension of my arms, but at the same time I also wanted to rely on more agility based manoeuvres in combat.Venturing through the lands together with this fine band of mercenaries certainly was a time I will always remember. I learned a lot in all those years and I certainly grew up to a better person. Looking back at my early years as a teenager I really know I used to be a bit chaotic and selfish. My training sure formed me into a more considerable and affable person. I still follow my own rules and codes, mind you, leaning to neither side.At some point our ways departed, though. Lea, Tyrith, Lydia, Fiona, Duncan and Dwennon accepted a mission they considered as too dangerous for a rookie like me. When Tyrith told me I did not want to accept it at all. Sadness filled me once again. Over these two years these kind souls welcomed me into their family and I loved being one of them. They set my path for what was to follow. Without them I would not be who I have become. I always feared this day might come one day. I just did not expect it this soon. I was still in training and just grasped the basics of combat, but deep in my heart I knew I had to set my own path at some point. I had to live on my own, I had to prove myself to the world. On our way to Mariner’s Hold we celebrated my 18th birthday, a birthday of dear memories. I still felt sorrow in my heart, but with the days passing, I accepted the truth more and more. Naturally, I also received presents this birthday, the last birthday we would celebrate together. But before the celebrations started I just had to undergo one last test. A fight against Tyrith. I had to prove I was worthy of their time and worked hard on myself. The fight was intense. I managed to strike her a few times, but in the end it was me who was knocked down and felt her blade on my throat. We both chuckled while she helped me up again. I might have lost the fight that night, but I proved myself worthy having been trained by her and Lea.For my 18th birthday I received three important presents that I still own to this very day: The first one, a drawn picture of our group. The second one: a blackened pendant displaying a lion’s head. This pendant was crafted by using some platinum out of Tyrith’s armour, so she’s always with me in moments of joy or grief. The third one, my dear reader, well, you are holding it in your hands right now. The third one is this very book, the biggest treasure of my whole life. All of what my life was and is about is written down on the following pages. This truly is my legacy. There I was now, saying tearful good-byes to my family at the docks of Mariner’s Hold. Where was I sailing? Port Hempstead on Mistone. Destination: Center. Center, the location where my very own adventure was about to start…

I am happy to announce you the Night of Duels, a competition among fighters and those who think they can stand a fight in range of a melee weapon. Everyone is welcome for this even, may it be to attend as a fighter and prove ones skill with a weapon, or just to watch the combatants fight.

Food and drinks will be served. All you need is to leave 500 True at the reception and you don’t have to pay for single drinks and food.

The Night of Duels will be held in the arena in Fort Vehl on Tunar, Febra 10, 1455.

There won’t be any prices, other than the honor and fame, but every fair fighter should honor especially these. The Night of Duels is not about treasure, but to come together, fighting duels, have the one or other drink and a lovely meal among friends.

Please send your application to Phyress Sylphide who is going to organize the whole event. She will be also responsible for the course of events and the single duels. Miss Sylphide will announce the combatants of each fight.

//And now for some OOC clarification which pretty much covers the rules for dead-magic areas...
Quote

- Allowed -
  • Items that enhance stats, skills and/or saving throws that are worn or equipped (clothing, jewelry, accessories) and that provide a "permanent" benefit to one's attributes and bonuses.
  • Permanent weapon and armor enhancements, such as elemental enhancements, silver and titanium coatings and elemental resistances.
  • As mentioned above, the key here is that these things do not rely upon the Al'Noth to sustain or maintain them, having received all their energy from either the casting itself or the energies inherent in the application of the enhancement.
- Not Allowed –
  • Ioun Stones. It does not matter whether or not these are activated prior to entering the dead magic zone or not, they are simply not permitted to be in use in dead magic...at all. They rely upon the Al'Noth to keep them circling around the character, and in its absence, they will fall to the ground. Bioware does not enforce this mechanically, but we will enforce it administratively.
  • Active magical and supernatural abilities that would draw upon the Al'Noth in some way, whether divine, arcane or natural. They may possibly persist when moving into a dead magic zone, but should not be activated or used from within a dead magic zone. These may include, but are limited to:

Racially-granted feats and abilities (i.e. Darkness)
  • Class-based feats, abilities and powers (i.e. Divine Might, Divine Shield, Bless Weapon, Holy Sword, Deafening Clang, Blade Thirst). This also includes the abilities of Spellswords and Arcane Archers to imbue their weapons and/or ammo with special enhancements.
  • Spells in general, may they be arcane, divine or of whatever nature.
  • Epic spells. (i.e. Epic Warding, Epic Mage Armor, Hellball)
  • Summons of any kind
  • Items with On-Hit-Properties

Food and drinks will be provided by the well renowned Leringard Arms & Inn! So expect delicious snacks, slices of pie, and the one and other great tasting ale and wine!

We look forward to seeing your sign-ups!

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Messages for Acrobatic Attack...
« on: September 17, 2009, 02:35:36 am »
I hope this is the right forum for this. After all it is a suggestion ;)

When performing an Acrobatic Attack you sometimes get messages like "You are too close to perform an Acrobatic Attack" or something similar to "You need more room behind you to perform an Acrobatic Attack".

These sadly only show up in the Combat-Chat-Window and therefore are easily missed in larger battles so one usually ponders why the char just stands around while your opponents keep on hitting you.

Could it be coded that way so it shows up over ones head? Like when you draw a rapier and you get a "Precise Strike On" message? This would greatly help all duelists out there, I think :)

Leringard Arms Inn and Tavern / Regarding recent events around Nel...
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:56:38 pm »
Regarding the recent events especially around Nel and Lake Freis on Alindor...

I think it is rather common knowledge these days that there are some things going on which should not naturally take place. Mostly there were fiends seen around the Lake Freis and the city Nel on Alindor. Also these have been reported in a spider invested cave on Belinara and also close to the shack at the Dun Lake. The fiends were described as either big, evil looking creatures with horns, burning wings and an almost black to red skin, or as some burning creatures. Please see the following sketch for more detailed information regarding their physical appearance:

It was reported that these pit dwellers sometimes ask about where they showed up. Apparently they are looking for someone or something and mostly end up in the wrong location. What they are really after is still unclear, but it won’t likely be something that will make us all warm and fuzzy.  Please be very cautious about them. They tend to ask where they ended up and will likely attack you afterwards.

It is like they are summoned into this realm or they teleportate themselves. During that process they leave scorch marks on the ground. There seems to be nothing special about them. There is nothing you can see on it, unless you try and read the Al’Noth around it, you will feel there is something utterly wrong about them.

However, there are still many questions about these events and it will take some effort to investigate into this matter. To discuss what was already found out and how to proceed and to coordinate the investigations I invite everyone who is interested in solving these events. Those who are interested please meet me in Mariner’s Hold at the docks on Tunar, Febra 17, 1454 around 4:59:45.

On behalf of the Council of Nel and the White Lily,

-Phyress Sylphide
