Rumour Has It / Word from Nel
« on: March 17, 2010, 03:18:18 am »

In a surprise announcement, the ruling house of the City of Nel, in the Sun Kingdom, has requested all civilians of the town to move to Lake Freis, where a hastily errected camp awaits them for a short duration.

Exact details as to why were not given, despite protests from much of the civilian population. Only that reports from a group of adventurer's recently arrived to the city, and combined with strong recommendations from the White Lily and Shield's of Nel, suggest an attack on the town to claim the recently excavated ruins underneath may be underway.

Whilst a small amount of the Nel Guards have escorted and now guard the civilians, the remainder it seems have mobilised along the main road of Nel, strangely leading from the excavated ruins... directly to one of the Elven Towers.

Jonathan Selmek aka Daren Valhaikor aka poohbear383340 died this morning in a fatal car crash.

He was a great roleplayer and really knew how to throw you a curve. His characters were well known and quite diverse from each other.

You will be sorely missed.

Rhakt sits under cover of the low branches of the trees all around him. A nice spot on the edge of this copse of spruce. The heat of the nearby fire barely felt upon his acid etched skin. He watches the sparks and the light playing amonst the embers keenly aware of the white bones that litter the camp.

Lying too close to a fire is a deathwish. Who would lie in the light? The body may be warm but both the cld and the darkness protect the orc. Darkness and darkvision are his allies.

Rhakts deep set red eyes constantly flick from tree to tree around him. In the trance like state between waking and deep sleep he can watch for hours. Watching, waiting for the intruder to step within his sphere, his world of pain. He waits for the villain, the bandit, the murderer, the unwary, the hunter................all become the hunted.

On many such a night he has watched the embers smoulder and hear the crunch of leaf or twig under foot. natural traps for the heavy footed. Slowly rising from his stupor with wicked grin and laughter almost bursting from his chest e trails the victim to the fire, his camp, his pit, his web for the unwary. Casting his magical daze he stuns the victim  like the spider and then looming over ts paralsed form he casts flame after flame from his gnarled fingers until the human flesh crackles and the screams die down.

Hiis thoughts return to the past few days in this strange land and his encounters. He ponders the white clad gnome, too small a morsel to satisfy his thirt for blood, who wandered the crypt of Vehl with him healing him  without threat or torture. later that day the same small man came to his aid in the gloomy forest only to run off after the prize cloak was won and Rhakts gazes and drooling jaw turned to concentrate on him. His little legs a furry of activity as Rhats laughter filled the forest wth foreboding.

He reflects upon his trip into the settlement of Krandor. Sneaking from house to house under the cover of dark he had followed his nose as it led to a find. Drawn to the aroma of death and dying floating on the early morning breeze he had cret into the hospice and eyed its inabitants with longing.the door had not even been bolted. following the smell of blood he had found a basket of the limbs emoved that day ( no doubt in an effort of th ehelers to save one or two that day)and had helped himslef to the brawny arm he found there, almost war and still bearing the toranite symbol of its former owner. Food packaged and eady to go he thought. What wonders the world provides. He had almost laughed out loud with joy.

Finding the chest deeper in the building had made the journey worthwhile. It had been filled with an assortment of human instruments. Stealing a set of Pan pipes prooved an easy task and just now thinking about them he looked down in the dark to review the bloodstains on his arms.

In the early hors of dawn that followed he had snuggled dwn into rhodadendron bushes on the outskirts of Wayfare. playing a slow orcish tune with haunting meoldy he had, half unseen, waited for the children of the tented vllage. Minutes later they appeared on the edge ofthe forest and he played to them. playing the forest fawn he had thrown them berries but they came not closer, quickly loosing interest in him and wary of the wod they had turned and ran off laughing. Rhakt too laughed as the strong amongst them ran fast but the pale little one could only run slowly. Too too slowly for Rhakt.

Rhakts eyes returned to the crackling bones in the embers and picked the grissle from his teeth.

The Dragon Storm Campaign / // Update!
« on: March 09, 2010, 06:32:45 am »
Hi guys,

As some of you may have noticed, I haven't been around much for some time. The reason for this is that I am relocating to Mumbai in India together with my family. My company offered me an exciting position in our Mumbai office and we have decided to take them up on the offer.

I just arrived here a little more than a week ago and am currently coming up and running on the job as well as finding an apartment and getting to know the place (whoa - its a lot different from Denmark!). I've started out solo, until I have a place for us, and am going back to fetch my family in April.

Yesterday I moved into an apartment that has a 256Kbit/sec connection, so needless to say I am somewhat restricted internet-wise. Nevertheless I intend to try to get online sooner or later and hopefully I can at least play a little.
Plot-wise this means that I will continue the mini-series that I started - and hopefully soon. I will give you a heads up on that as soon as I've found out whether I can GM or not with my current internet connection.

I hope that Steel and his homies are currently recruiting for the next quest episode... they better be! ;)

Over and out for now. I'll keep you updated.

Cheers, Harlas

Layonara Server / Masterjack's Layonara team application
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:36:58 am »
This is being posted as per post # 15 from this thread. http://forums.layonara.com/layonara-server/261122-layonara-team-applications-now-open.html

1. What position are you applying for?

Gamemaster

2. How long have you been a member of Layonara?

Since April 2006

3. Why do you want to be a GM or LORE team member in Layonara?

I love Layo and what everyone has done to it to make it so interesting. My current work position has given me a lot of free time away from my family.  So why not help out my Layo family when I can.

Secondly I find myself wanting to bring more of Layo to life then just my character. I think being a GM is the best way for me to do that.

Thirdly, I miss making adventures. My son and I have been working together to keep a campaign going for his friends for about two years now. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly my son went off to college.

4. What characteristics make you well suited to the position of GM/LORE team member?

I'm patient, tolerant and work well with others. I also have an over active imagination.

5. Please read through the GM/LORE team duties and qualifications, if you have not already. In light of these obligations, what other responsibilities (either Layonara-related or real life) could affect your Team performance and how would you balance these?

I work for the Canadian military, that alone is a big responsibility. I can be called away at a moments notice to go any where to do almost anything. My current posting makes that extremely unlikely thought not impossible. Usually I get plenty of notice before I have to go somewhere so I should be able work around it or take a small sabbatical.

The second responsibility would be my family. I'm currently posted away from them till at least summer 2011, so that should not be a problem. Also my children are in college.

6. Are you a member of any other Layonara teams? If so and you are accepted as a GM/LORE team member, how do you plan to balance your new role and your current role?

No

7. Please describe any DM/GM experience, including any NWN GMing experience. Please note that GMing experience is not required for an application to be considered.

I have GM'd / DM'd plenty of games since the early 80s. To be honest most of them pale in comparison to Layo standards. Most of my experience comes from helping my son create an on going campaign for his friends for the last 2 years. I have not DM'd using NWN.

8. Are you applying as a part time or full time quest GM? (Please note the GMing time commitments as specified under GM duties.)

For the first year I can to do it full time but would have to go to part time after that. So I'll just apply for part time and do more then expected.

9. I'll PM my quest summary with in a day or so.

Rumour Has It / Report to authorities in Northpoint
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:07:20 pm »
A plain young woman with blonde hair enters the main office of the rulers of Dalanthar to report a travesty of Justice. Giving her name as Liselle she reports that she has travelled all the way from a small village on Mistone to report that her brother, a young man called Leon, had entered a place called the Ruins of Madness and been caught up in an incident with milita from Willows Weep.

She reports that the militia tried to arrest one of his comrades and everything spiralled out of control from there and resulted in the milita locking them in the Ruins of Madness and facing certain death as they were assaulted by the Minotaurs. Regardless of the fact her brother pleaded with the militia to be allowed out to safety they refused for sometime.

Liselle is furious that such an abuse of power has occured in relation to her brother and demands an investigation into the incident and the captain of the unit who did that to her brother to be demoted.

She offers to wait in Dalanthar until the investigation is concluded visiting the office every day to find out whats been done. (Once she has the names of some of the officers however she will disappear.)

General Discussion / Stepping Down from GM'ing
« on: February 27, 2010, 12:45:15 am »
Well folks, it has come that time for me to step down from being a GM. Thanks to L and the team for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of the team.

I have been on this server for over five years now and GM'ed for the last year or so of it between deployments. It was definitely interesting to see how the server operated behind the curtain.

I appreciate all the fun that I had while serving the server. I enjoyed my time helping players, running impromptu quests (my favorite by far), and bringing the world alive by possessing NPCs (especially animals), changing spawns, and keeping players on their toes. There are truly fantastic RP'ers in our community and it is constant. There is almost always someone RPing in some form or fashion all of the time. There are different styles and different levels, thank you for the education from that side of the field.

Thanks again,
twidget

 • Provide healing and safety for those in need
 • Conduct research into poisons, diseases, illnesses and conditions in order to provide cures and better treatments.
 •    Promote works of beauty and music as healing of the spirit
 •    Investigate and act against threats contrary to the ideals of Krandor Hospital

Krandor Hospital is fully funded by charity and its endowments. No charges shall be levied for its services. Galathea Arnaduillae wishes to express her heartfelt gratitude to the many generous donations and offers of help which has made this possible.

If you believe in these ideals and wishes to actively support them then we are seeking stewards to oversee the running and provide expert help. Rumour Has It / Word in the Sun Kingdom
« on: February 15, 2010, 06:53:40 am »

Whispered and murmured in dark back alleys, dingy taverns and amongst the most nefarious and criminal circles of the Sun Kingdom, rumour tells of a chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity on the horizon.

Word speaks of a gathering, a mission, for fine minds and strong backs, and those not afraid to challenge the laws when it comes to making a fortune for yourself.

The risks are high... but the rewards? ... word seems to speak of an entire town to pillage and loot. Everything and anything that can be carried away... could be yours for the taking.

But when eager thieves and mercenarys enquire more as to how they might be a part of this grand venture.... no one seems to know.

Roleplaying / Deity relations when they are not shared.
« on: February 09, 2010, 12:35:15 pm »
Hey after my questions about a certain set of Deities and how they dont see one another in the same light. Deity X friendly to Deity Z, but Deity Z is an enemy of Deity X.

In this specific instance I am reffering to Vorax and Kithairien.

How far does one take this enemy standing in RP?

Can you travel with an Enemy? Especially one who is very friendly towards you? I know we had that whole common enemy discussion in the other thread... I dont want to open that whole can of worms again though.

Would you cast on them?

Raise them?

I guess I see a potential for some very fun and funny RP here. The Kitharien doing their best to ignore and insult the Voraxian... and the Voraxian just keeps comming back for more. Not seeing why the Kithairien doesnt like them back.

NWN Ideas, Suggestions, Requests / Bags of salt
« on: February 08, 2010, 07:34:09 pm »
1 bag of salt = 8 salts.
So if one salt cost 9 trues, 8 would cost = 72 true

The meaning of this, is that even though you have the possibility to gather them, sometimes you may want to buy them instead. Now lets say that you have like a 120 to buy, that takes a ridiculous amount of time to click on the salt, click on ok. Click on the salt, click on ok. CL. well you get it I think :p.

Anyhow if the crafting vendor, or the few npc cooks, here and there, could sell bags of salt, that once you use the unique propriety it gives you automatically 8 salts. That would be marvelous.

Either that or maybe come up with the same system used on other server, where you actually input the number of that particular item you wish to purchase. But that can cause thing to drop if you don't have the necessary space.

General Discussion / Group Looting, and Items at the end.
« on: February 06, 2010, 02:36:03 pm »
I wanted to take a few minutes to talk about Looting and all that fun stuff that comes at the end when the loot is gone over by the group.

1. Definatly assign a looter in your group... and contrary to popular beleive it DOES NOT have to be the rogue or the scout's job every time. The group should assign whom they trust with that role (would your character really trust that shady person dressed in all black stabbing everything in the back with the role of keeping hold of the money and items you might find?)

2. If you are not the looter, dont look at dead corpses. If the looter sees you do that and move on.. they may assume that body has nothing on it and leave it go as well. We have a system in place that announced EVERYTHING that is looted. So you really have no reason to look.

3. Set some rules at the start... be they IC or OOC... do it at the begenning so there is no grumbles at the end.
I would reccomend trying a Need Before Greed for loot drops.

What that does is, if the item in question your character wants and will use personally. They have dibs over say someone who wants it because they know they can make money selling it, they know a friend who wants it etc....
This IMO is only fair to those who wish to use it and helped earn it. Versus those who wont use it directly.

If no one Needs the item to use on the toon they are playing... the item then falls to Greed. Basically anyone who wants it, for whatever purpose can then roll for the item or take it at this point if no one else ask for it.

If anyone else has sugestions they wish to add please do!!
