Ask A Gamemaster / Re: Evil/Lawful Rofireinite vs Good/Lawful Rofireinite

Hold the law above all else at any cost, even if this means bringing loved ones or friends to justice. Without the order of law, chaos would reign and the world would descend into dark times where Pyrtechon would thrive.

@Xaltotun - Here's the section that hints towards LE alignment. Holding the law above all else, without consideration of the circumstances surrounding the crime, can be evil. There is a lot that can be done with the statement "Without the order of law, chaos would reign".

He won't go to any lengths because he won't break the law. He won't lie on a report or in court because that would be to dishonor himself before Rofirein. He won't commit murder. He knows he's not the executioner. He won't break into anyone's property; that would be illegal. He can't even be sure they get the punishment he wants because he's not the judge. Otherwise, he pursues his case, sets stakeouts, makes arrests... just like all the other Rofies.

@Gulnyr - This is all true, but now this man is a paragon of the church, he may train and rise to the ranks of judge. And once he is in that position, perhaps he always hands out the maximum punishment as per the Divine law (which one should note is not a death sentence in every case). It's possible that a LE Roffie's differences may only surface once he attains Power within an organization.

At the end of the day, LE is possible, but it's a tightrope walk. In many ways, this is good for Layonara. The church's legal system is policed by an omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient force. Now its influence may not stretch to all lands, but Divine law seems a solid standard to follow.

Couple things here that I might offer having tried to play an LE Rofie.

First, the closest we can get to knowing the Divine laws are the "Divine principles" and "Classification of Crimes" section of [LORE]Law of Layonara[/LORE]. As I understand it, this is the framework that was laid out at the [LORE]Congregation of the Principium[/LORE].

I can also comment on the subject of crooked Rofireinites. Rofireinites, particularly clerics, get their abilities/powers from their deity. If one breaks the Divine law, then Rofirein no longer smiles favorably on that person, meaning you lose your powers. It would not take long for other Rofireinites/etc. to realize that you are no longer favored by their deity.

Taking a bribe could fall under "aiding wanted criminals" or "fraud". Pretending to have authority that is not properly granted to you is both "fraud" and "impersonating government officials or Rofireinites". Most crimes/shady deals can fit into the rough sketch of laws provided in that LORE link.

The best way, perhaps the only way, to roll an LE Rofie who is a member of the church is to play him as a ruthless upholder of the laws and punishments.

William Walker stops by the Stormcrest Shack for a few days, fishing and writing. Eventually he makes his way towards Fort Vehl. Upon seeing the sign, he decides that he will write a report and brief history on the populace of Fort Vehl and their relations with the Rofireinite temple known as Sanctuary.

Happy Birthday on this Clan Day of Feast Plenty!

Also there's a typo on [LORE]Months And Dates[/LORE]. Pretty sure the Voltrexian September should be "Slow Warmth" instead of "Slow Warmnth". ;)

This isn't my territory, but it should be kept in mind that Knight is under the "Complex" category of [LORE]PrestigeClassSubmissionRequirements[/LORE]. This means that the player needs:

Pulling this over from the other thread not because I have a question or anything, but I think something may've got cut off at the end of the last sentence in that block of text.

Really digging these changes. New CA rules will help new players get in-game faster because both what's available to new players, and what's expected of them, is lessened. These seem like changes that will make it easier for everyone all around.

The "Lore Publication Fork" is a term I have a hard time understanding the implications of. Does this mean that what happens on the NWN server will not be reflected in the development of the MMO post-Briardusk?
-Gilshem Ironstone

The way I see it is that the "Lore Publication Fork" is neither an admission that what happens on the NWN server will not be reflected in the development of the MMO, nor does it mean that players can no longer affect the world lore. I could be wrong, though.

What it seems to me the "Lore Publication Fork" is, is the freedom for the team to decide which actions/stories will carry on to the MMO's lore. This frees up players who might want to go down in infamy or fame, who might be concerned about exactly which stories transfer. It also frees up the DMs who could now plan quests with the full knowledge that there's no distant Lore target which they have to worry about hitting.

I really like the idea that these quests do not necessarily qualify for character development. I don't know if it's a possibility, but I think it'd be a lot of fun to attend a quest that was technically on another image of the Layonara thread frequency.

Also, congratulations Gilshem for CA Team Lead. Not sure if this is a new change or what, but that's still pretty cool. :)

Mercenaries the scourge of the land? Ha! How easily the humans can be tricked into killing their own kind. That Kal is very trusting indeed. He may prove useful.

Ni'haer spoke of an upcoming sacrifice. I look forward to it. Look forward to smearing the blood in power circles on my skin and armor. These glyphs should help my casting in armor by weaving the Al'Noth through the blood.

Another success in sharpening my blade through platemail while mowing the 'Children of the Earth'.

Rain turns to steam on Fymwal's fired blade, and he laughs over the body of a kobold.

I have succeeded in battle, in armor, to enchant my sword. This is most appealing news; it was my hate for the living kobold that brought this. The fire is vengeance. Ha!

Fymwal runs the searing edge along the kobold's skin. It singes and coils into smoke.

I tortured a traitor today with applications of spikes and acid. The spikes were metal, but the acid was a concoction. I cast it while wearing plates. The acidic arrow was but a small spell, but it is a first encouraging step towards casting more intricate magics in armor.

Nastor is not one with whom I should trifle. His compound was most well concealed. I think it should prove useful, and perhaps even safe, during my empowerment.

Development Journals and Discussion / Re: Poems and Songs - Kira Adams
« on: August 26, 2011, 12:16:36 am »
Set to a slow, rolling beat and humming to fill the gaps between lyrics. Kira also tries to improvise with her new reed flute a bit. Her face is turned to a grimace of pain at the start of the song, which slowly fades into a calm smile at the end.

"Test of Faith Blues"

Woke up this morning, to find my Falcon leaving me,
Said I woke up this morning, and that Bird He's leaving me.
I ran to chase Him, but He flew farther than I could see.

The Bird is gone, but I still got my feet,
Y'know my bird's gone, but I still got my feet,
Then I tripped up bad, and my poor soles are beat.

My feet won't move, but my bow string still is tight,
I cannot move, but my bow string still is tight,
But night is fallen, and I can smell a fight.

Kobold's closin' in, and my hick'ry spear snaps.
He's getting closer, and my trusty spear just snaps,
I'm out of spells, and you know I'm out of traps.

I hold my breath, I feel so alone,
I take a breath, I'm stuck and so alone,
No song to bury me, and head-stone.

I notch an arrow, and I sing this song,
I've got this arrow, then I pour my heart in song.
The arrow glows, and my sight grows strong.

The kobold's comin', when I see the circlin' Bird,
The kobold's close now, when I see that circlin' Bird.
He lets out a scream, and I know He's the Falcon that I've heard.

I let arrow go now, the kobold falls down dead,
I let go the arrow, that bad ol' monster's dead.
The Falcon lands down, He's perching on the kobold's head.

When you're down and out, and the Falcon's leaving you,
When your Spirit's left, yeah, that Falcon's leaving you.
Just try this tune, and honey, you'll find the Spirit anew.

7k is hardly worth a graceful plea. I don't expect to get the shield back. :P I just wanted to report it to see if I could be of use to anyone.

I should mention that the way I was switching back to my normal weapons after using the pickax/gem mining pick was to hit a quickbar equip button that had both my Adamantium Battle Axe and my Adamantium Kite Shield. Even though I was already holding the shield, I'm going to guess that what happened was that the macro tries to unequip, then automatically re-equip, the shield. I'm guessing the issue came up when it un-equipped, found there was no room, dropped, but then somehow auto-equipped to my shield/off-hand slot.
