Development Journals and Discussion / Dancing has been discovered
« on: July 31, 2016, 02:45:16 am »

Dancing has been discovered to be... How do I put this... Not my strong suit. Becca, Toby, and I broke into Becca's father's house for a lesson, which did not go well for me. On any account, really. Toby had us doing an odd mix of sparing and dancing. Becca is lighter on her feet than me, and so she was the superior dancer... and yet again she beat me in sparing. That makes the runing score... Two to zero? Three to zero? I need to find something to beat someone at before my dignaty begins to slip away.

But that wasn't all. The cat, the same cat that pushed me into the fire in center, appeared in the house during the lesson. At first I thought nothing of it, perhaps it followed us, perhaps it was Daniel's cat. But after the thing lead us to Arnax things changed for the worse. The cat was Corathite. A tiny cat was spying on us for the deity of insanity. And I was none the wiser...

I can't help but wondering what I did to catch the attention of an organization like that. Perhaps it's Becca's father, the holy warrior of Roferian? Either way... I cannot help but be on edge. Something is amiss and I lack the forsight to know what it is... Perhaps Daniel will have a better idea. Of course, this requires admitting we broke into his house. And also possibly admitting my herritage. Which brings up the question, is my herritage alone illegal in his eyes?

Development Journals and Discussion / I had my first real night of
« on: July 29, 2016, 02:09:06 am »

I had my first real night of drinking on the surface and I don't think its something I mean to repeat again soon... The bartender, Viper, had an ingenious device that allowed me to drink behind a mask, a hollowed reed to pull the liquid out of the glass and into your mouth with. Unfortunately, bets were placed on how well the masked elf could hold his liquor, and the answer is three will-o-whiskeys.

But something important happened that night. And internally, I'm kicking myself for not remembering it... It had something to do with Becca. But the whole night is in a fog to me now, except for the fact that apparenly I owe Toby a dance. How that happened, I'm not entirely sure.

I may look into getting a room at the Arms... It seems more accepting than most places, what with a demon-dark elf owning the place. Besides, I presume the secret is out with the people I was with the prior night. I doubt a drunken Tharivian was the best at keeping a secret, and I wasn't thrown out. So as far as places to call "home", at least temporarily, this may be a good choice.

*the next is written as an afterthought in the journal, a bit of a blank space seperates the two sections*

Viper, the bartender, was an incredible help. I remember that much. Helping my mask, with the hollow reed to drink... It's as if she has had her own experience living behind a mask. A mystery, perhaps one I'll learn someday.

And she looks strikingly like Becca.

Development Journals and Discussion / Becca knows what I am. And
« on: July 14, 2016, 04:44:00 pm »

Becca knows what I am. And she did not flee, nor attack me. I could not have hoped for better.

She was on the cusp of learning of my herritage regardless, she had seen a wound of mine and said I must have been "badly burned". It would not have been long before she discovered what I was, and perhaps admiting it rather than being caught softened the blow. I'd like to think I told her for that motive alone, to better myself. The selfish motives that I tried to resist in the deep, but still lie in my head, influencing the decisions I make.

But perhaps a seed of loyalty has been planted beside those that have been with me for so long. For why did I care if Becca left me? Why did I care if she found out what I was and ran away, never to speak to me again? Dark elves are not meant to value friendships with surfacers, those are only selfish connections to further their ends. But I was afraid of losing perhaps the one friend on the surface that I have. Does that make me weak, does that mean that these pale-skinned surfacers are influencing me? Perhaps, or perhaps I'm simply growing out of those traditions left in me by my kin. Perhaps in striking down my father, I freed myself from the requirements of that society, and it is only now that I have reason to do so that I'm growing away from their ways.

Becca Poetr has seen past my mask, and was not afraid. Now I have two people I can be unmasked around, out of the thousands on the surface. But a start is a start.

Development Journals and Discussion / I met another dark elf
« on: July 14, 2016, 03:38:00 am »

I met another dark elf today... Perhaps worse than that. A man named Steel who claims to be part demon, part dark elf, and part human. I cannot help but be impressed by him. He wears his skin, a strange blue color, openly and with pride. He does not hide from his herritage, and he is widely accepted for it. In fact, he owns his own inn in Leringard. Perhaps regonition is what is needed to find acceptance from these surfacers. But I am no innkeeper. I do believe I would go mad if I were to go without the rush of battle, without the feeling of my blade in my hand. So perhaps I need to find recognition on the battlefield.

In the mean time, I've begun saving money for a home of some sort for myself. If nothing else, to have a sanctuary where I do not need to be in disguise. No matter where I find refuge, there is always the odd chance of some surfacer wandering in and catching me, raising the alarm on a whole town that I could not travel to again. But a house, where I could take my mask off and relax... The privacy sounds like heaven. Of course, homes on the surface are what I consider to be rediculously expensive, but perhaps it will be worth it. I can only hope.

Roll call? Alrighty.

146 Krandor - Owned by Kelvaron Al'dunii, still active!

157 Silverdell Grove - Owned by Cord, who is now inactive, but it was shared and partially furnished by Devarain, if that's grounds for a transfer?

« on: March 16, 2016, 03:39:53 pm »

After being freed, the elderly woman speaks up. "Despite Darius's... Misguided opinions, the fact stands that something, or someone, is taking the children." She looks around at those nearby. "Perhaps a search party should be formed to find them."

//Going to put this up on the calendar for an IG session, what times work for everybody? I was thinking Thursday or Friday at 7:30 CST or so, although I'm on spring break so if everybody needs a different time I could accomodate easily.

Rumour Has It / The gnome, upon reaching the
« on: March 15, 2016, 12:01:09 am »

The gnome, upon reaching the gates at which the orcs entered, realizes that the town of Center in fact has no gates. Or walls. Or guards. In fact, the only defenses the orcs crossed to enter was a poorly built fence designed to keep cows from straying too far. Although the orcs tried to jump over it, it looks as though they had simply ran headlong through it.

In place of any guards is a few townsfolk. A tall male human and a dwarven female. Upon asking them where the orcs came from, they claim to know not. However, a group of adventurers had gone after them after the raid, and returned with word of some sort of army. The adventurers were Charlie and Kat Poetr, and someone called the Cat Witch.

***

The Lucindite woman begins speaking to the elderly woman just as she is about to be transported to her cage, but is interupted as a very angry Roferianite storms into town. Darius has the look of a child caught stealing candy from a store, a mix of guilt and terror. His once loyal followers disperse rather quickly, leaving the dwarf alone to face the Paladin. Rather short for a dwarf without his pedastle, and about equal in height and width, the dwarf toes a pebble around in front of him, not making eye contact with the Roferian.

"Well, ya see ser... The lady, she was usin' witchcraft an' takin the children from the people here. Me, being the honorable dwarf I am, well I went ahead and took action so ya wouldn't have ta, ya see? It's all jus' a simple misunderstanding so there's no need to hang anybody today, right?" The dwarf casts a quick glance towards the partly-finished gallows he had ordered for construction.

The elderly woman shifts towards the Lucindite woman, seeming to be afraid of Darius. Her hands are still bound. "Would you mind freeing an old lady's hands, miss?"

Rumour Has It / Men bustled about Center,
« on: March 13, 2016, 03:28:00 pm »

Men bustled about Center, seeming caught up in the dwarf Darius's words. Some worked cleaning up after the raid, reparing fences and such. Others were set to work building a cage to contain the 'witch', and two stood guard over the elderly woman who had been accused.

Darius seemed to have become the focal point for attention. Many parents who had lost children were refering to him for advice on if they would see their loved ones again, and if there was a way to return him. The dwarf did not shy away from the attention.

***

The young Lucindite woman felt small traces of magic in the area. There were too many people moving about to tell who, or what, was the source.

***

Lindara watched the townspeople move about from her shady spot by the tree. It was not far from her that the townspeople chose to begin constructing a cage; a crude box made of staves of wood and lashed together with rope.

***

Moments later, a cry was heard from one of the residential tents.

"Timmy! My boy Timmy has gone missing!" A woman cried, out, bursting from her tent and running towards Darius. "The witch! She took my boy!"

Darius in turn looked back towards the elderly woman, who was still awaiting the cage's completion. "What have ye done with her child?" He spat.

"I haven't done nothing, Darius! You're whipping this town into a frenzy over nothing! There is no witchcraft here!" The old woman shouted.

"Not you, eh? Ye been under watch since we discovered yer intentions, anyhow... Tell me, who be yer accomplice than?"

Rumour Has It / A mysterious orcish raid hit
« on: March 12, 2016, 12:50:31 am »

A mysterious orcish raid hit Center that evening. Although repelled by a joint effort of merchants and adventurers, several commoners were slain, including the son of the dwarf who had spoken recently.

The dwarf, Darius, took to his perch once again the next morning, to speak. "People of Center! You've seen what has happened to me, my family! I spoke out yesterday, and I've been punished for it by the loss of my son! Your children run away, mine slain... Someone is punishing me for accusing me, perhaps for speaking against them?" The dwarf looks at the elderly lady, adressing her directly. "I do believe there was some suspicion of you yesterday... Yes? Perhaps you had something to do with the loss of my only son?

The old woman looks about her and the commoners gathered, wide-eyed as she watched the group turn from an assembly into a mob. Murmers were spoken from the many people who had suddenly been turned against her. One person, a pudgy human, cried out "She's a witch! Our children are tainted by witchcraft!"

The commoners seized the old woman roughly. The dwarf Darius shouted above the din for a cage to be held to contain the witch until a trial was held.

« on: March 11, 2016, 08:52:00 pm »

A large dwarf stood on a stool teetering on a pedastle so that he could adress a small group of commoners in who had gathered in Center.

"People! Somet'in is affectin' our children, an' I dun' like the looks of it," the dwarf yelled.  The crowd he addressed gave a few "ayes" in response. "We've got ta find the root of tha' problem, 'fore its too late!"

An elderly woman in the crowd spoke up. "But sir, they could just be playing. They are children, after all? We all had silly fantasies when we were young!"

The dwarf furrowed his brow down at the lady. "Perhaps the cause ain't somet'in, but rather someone..."

The crowd murmered, some looking at the dwarf and some looking at the lady suspiciously. The dwarf stepped down from his perch and walked off into the Bulls Eye Inn, while the elderly lady went towards the merchant tents.

Development Journals and Discussion / I've taken to slaughtering
« on: January 21, 2016, 12:12:25 am »

I've taken to slaughtering the creatures of the swamp near Tilmar for practice. They resemble elves in form, their throats are just as easy to slip, their weak points just as accessable with a well-placed arrow. However, I don't believe them to be elves, or even my kin. They look the part, but they look almost lost, undead. But they are not undead, as they are weak to my critical strikes.

Nonetheless, they are good fun and practice to slaughter.
