Character Submissions / gilshem

Quote from: "gilshem ironstone"&nid="1284857"
As of right now Exotic Race applications are now re-opened! We will be placing a few restrictions on their submission though, in an effort to keep these characters sufficiently rare to reflect their uniqueness in the world. These restrictions apply to the following races: Goblins Orcs Wemics Brownies Dark Elves Sea Elves Half-orcs, half-giants and half-ogres are no longer viable as PCs, as they would have to start adventuring at too old an age. Please read the following guidelines for exotic race submissions: -Submissions for exotic races will be limited in number to one(1) per person per month and four(4) per month total. -Three(3) days prior to the end of the month a random date and time will be selected for the opening of submissions for the following month. A d4 will be rolled to indicate the date (so submissions will always open within the first four days of the month) and a d24 will be rolled for the time, always quoted in GMT to avoid confusion (so a roll of 13 would be 1pm GMT). The time will be announced in this thread. -The first four posts, according to their time stamp, will be the submissions reviewed. The others will be given five days for the submitter to save their work, and then deleted to keep the forum organized. -The threads will also be numbered 1-4, to indicate which thread gets priority in review; 1 being first in line, 4 being last. This system was devised to limit the flow of exotic characters in to the world, and to give all time zones the fairest chance of getting their submission in first. The policy may be amended if a more efficient process is identified and agreed upon. I also would like to note that exotic races are still subject to the RP consequences that NPCs of the same race are. Namely, rampant hatred, bigotry and/or animosity from the "common" races. That being said, have a great time! Cheers, Gilshem

Since Today is the 4th day of September, 2013, I was assuming the date was going to be someplace between September 1 - September 4 per the quote.  Either way, I have my character work saved, so you can delete my submission.

Ok, that's major part of it.  Some aspects of LORE regarding allowed races are missing.  ESA's, Level Adjusters, general information on the subrace. for example, Goblin (http://layonara.com/lore/goblin) is just a placeholder... there is no information.

Ok, I understand the need/desire for privacy.  Also in a magic-rich world such as Layonara, it may be possible to detect/deny scrying/snooping.  The desire for information generally does not require that the seeker look to immoral/unwanted means.  Also, in general accord with my characters alignment (Neutral Good), I wouldn't want to harm anyone by said knowledge, unless it was information that would help the greater good.   (i.e. if I knew George the Baker was a sociopath, I probably would give notice to the proper authorities, but if Anna of Aerindor was promiscuous, it would be nobody's concern except her and her potential partners.)

Of course... anyhow an Aragenite learns not to judge...

"Do not cloud the observation with speculation or supposition as that could lead to distortion.Do not judge what you see - as a single pair of eyes can only see part of the whole picture and your judgment may be faulty. Do not dismiss any information, no matter how small or irrelevant you deem it, because it may be the missing piece of the puzzle of understanding."

Actually, I meant what I typed at the end of #4....  look at all the celebrities that are the center of attention from tabloids.  I am sure the rumor mill was still very active, as it is today.  People have always been interested in what "celebrities" are doing.

Ask A Gamemaster / Ok, what part of LORE
« on: August 31, 2013, 08:09:30 am »

Ok, what part of LORE (Layonara Online Reference Encyclopedia) can I assume to have general knowledge in.  There is a lot of information written up in LORE, but I'm sure not all of it is available to PCs.

I am going to make these assumptions, unless corrected:

1) I can find the current and/or past rulers of cities/kingdoms/baronies...

2) I can find the general attitude of an area towards magic, both divine and arcane.

3) I can find maps that may not be overly detailed, but will show the general locations of places.

4) I can not find information on non-famous PCs... if they don't own a well-known establishment, (ie Cailomel's or Leringard Arms & Equipment),I probably don't know too much about them.  On the other hand, if they do own a well-known establishment, but want to keep their private lives more or less secret, I may be able to find information out.

5) I know of rumors that circulate about certain places, even though I may or may not be able to verify if the rumors are true.

I understand this list may not be complete, but just getting a feel for what is available.

As far as I can tell, the cantrip "Divine Relation" is worthless to an Aragenite.

1) Since Aragen is neutral to everyone, "divine relation" reports that everyone is neutral.

2) I agree that according to Aragen, all information is sacred, but even without using this cantrip, I can guarantee that I will get a neutral result-- Even if I cast it on another Aragenite.

3) Rowana, some information can be scared... it's kinda fun that way :)

Of course, divine relations is worthless to an Aragenite, since Aragen is hostile to noone.

While Trickery/Travel is a forbidden combination, for Aragenites it is not an issue since Knowledge is a required domain, thus eliminating the possibility of Trickery and Travel together.

Character Submissions / Character re-Submission - Groosh
« on: November 05, 2015, 12:46:32 am »
Character Name: Groosh
Character Age: 20
Character Class: Druid 5/ Ranger
Character Race: Goblin
Character Gender: Male
Character Alignment: TN
Deity Associated With: The Great Oak
Character Birthplace:  Goblin Wastelands, near Hlint
Character Biography:

From an early age, Groosh felt he was different from his clanspeople.  He felt a kinship with nature instead of the normal goblinoid urge to destroy it.
One day, when he was about 14, he felt a strong, curious pull into the Silkwood Forest.  While there, he came across a group of druids who were in a ceremony worshipping the Great Oak.
He watched patiently and was awed by what he saw there.  Later that day, he was discovered by some of the druids who recognized him as a kindred spirit.
They offered to train him in the druidic arts.  After several grueling but satisfying years, the druids of the Silkwood Forest proclaimed him ready to serve the Great Oak on his own.

Extra Credit:

Height: 3'4"
Weight: 45 lbs.

Ask A Gamemaster / Currently playable PC races
« on: September 03, 2013, 07:47:23 pm »
Which races are currently playable and open to submission?I know Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes are ok.After 1421, no Half-Breeds were born, so Half-Orc, Half-Giant, Aasimar and Tiefling are out.I understand that some of the different subraces of Elf (Dark, Gray, Moon, Sea, Sun, Wild, Wood) are in and out of submissability, depending on Exotic Races being submitable ATM.The same is true of the subraces of Dwarf (Gold, Deep, Shield)
Halflings and Gnome, the same. How does this affect the submissability of Ogres,Orcs, Wemics, Goblins, etc.  They are not half-breeds, but not truly a subrace except under NWN?

Trade and Market Hall / WANTED: Extra Large Weapon for Half-Giant PC
« on: September 02, 2013, 11:44:01 am »
I play a Large Barbarian with a high STR.  I want a big bashing weapon that I can wield 2-handed, but unfortunately, since I am a large creature, I need a Huge weapon.  As far as I know, there are no huge weapons in game.

Ask A Gamemaster / Use of LORE for PC
« on: August 31, 2013, 12:32:15 am »
Generally, how much LORE can be used for IG knowledge by a PC?  I play an Aragenite priest, whose domain is Knowledge.  I'm assuming I am well-read in what is considered "general knowledge" and can research quite a bit.  But where is the line between research and "metagaming"?  I'm assuming using the maps of Layonara is generally acceptable, but of course using other character's builds is not. I  should not know that Susie Shoemaker is a 10th level cleric of Ilsare, for example.
